Recover lost partition

Dunno if this is the right place to put this but here goes.
So, last night I'm looking at my desktop and notice I need to clear out my stuff. Organize and make it look nice again. So after a while of deleting and moving around files on my Mac OS X 10.5.1 desktop, I noticed I had 20gb of space left on my entire MacBook hardrive. So the adventurous young me decided I would partition my drive once again to install Ubuntu 8.04 R4 so I can run Wine and have all 3 of the major operating systems running on one laptop.
Great right? Well, as I had before, my disk wouldn't partition (validation error) when using bootcamp assistant AND Disk Utility. Also, since the initial install, I not longer have my Leopard install disc. So I insert my Mac OS X 10.4.8 MacBook install DVD's to run Disk Utility off there. Here's where things went wrong.
I was confident I could use Disk Utility. I mean, I've used it quite a bit throughout my months of Leopard. So I fire up the disc, go right to Disk Utility, and instantly to my disc and hit partition. It didnt have the same layout as the one I was used to, but that's ok. So my rookie mistake happened here. I didn't hit split as I was supposed to, I just created a new partition on the disk. I made it slightly less than the size of free space I knew I had left.
Well, I closed out and restarted like any excited user would, only to discover I booted into the disc media again without holding down the 'c' button. So after 2 more times of this I go into the disk to check my boot installs. Turns out I partitioned it wrong and lost some system files. So the only thing I could do was install Mac OS X 10.4.8 on the part of the second partition that is in the empty space on my original partition, install firefox, and log into here.
And this is where I sit now. So can anyone help me in attempting to recover my old partition? or at least point me in the direction to recover about 40 to 50gb worth of pictures (both home and business related photography), music (both downloaded/ripped and my garageband audio files), and videos (both ripped dvds and projects for school)?

thats the thing. i dont have the resources to backup (no really, i dont.) BUT i do have a good friend with a very large external hardrive whom will let me use it for the time being to transfer recovered files to, thus allowing me to whipe this drive entirely (should i 35x write it with 0s?) and a buddy with a spare leopard disc whom is graciously letting me use that.
so basically ive come up with this simple (ha) procedure; I can boot from leopard disk, plug in usb thumb drive with recovery software, plug in hardrive, recover files, wipe my drive with 0's 35x over, install leopard, and finally, transfer back all my personal files and applications i was able to recover. (+theoretically of course+.)
the only problem is, what data recovery software could i possibly use? ive spent HOURS now looking for HFS HFS+ (and general Mac) data recover suites/utilities and cant find a single thing other than stellar phoenix mac edition which i dont want to pay a ton of money for.

  • Data recovery software that help recover lost partition due to using Disk Recovery Assistant on a 2TB HDD?

I Just use the Disk Recovery Assistant on my 2TB HDD and it wipe it clean. What are the best data recovery tool out there that allow me to recover the lost partition and see the file in folders view not files view like in some data recovery like Disk Drill?
using ML 10.8 something I tried appleXsoft but no luck.

    My best suggestion is
    Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery
    http://www.macintosh-data-recovery.com/
Download the free trial version of the software and use the option "Search Lost/Deleted Volumes", It will scan the drive and show you all lost partitions list on preview. Once you click on the selected partition it will show you again 3 options ,
Quick Recovery- This option is very effective on case of volume corruption
Advanced Recovery- This option recovers data from formatted volume and scans each and every block of volume for lost data.
Deleted File Recovery.- It scans unused blocks of volume to recover deleted data.
On successful recovery the software will show the files in folders view with the folder structure..In case you are unable to see the desired results you would need to go for Raw Recovery which will show results on file basis. This option is only required incase the previous option does not give you the desired results.

  • How can I uninstall Bootcamp and Recover the partition for the Mac HD

How can I uninstall Bootcamp and recover the partition for the IMac HD?

Boot into OSX.  Go back into the Bootcamp utility in the Utilities folder and re-run it.  It will give you the option to remove the Windows partition and make the OSX partition fill the whole drive again.  OSX will NOT be lost in the process.  No re-installing necessary.  Only takes a few minutes or less to complete.

  • Recovering bootcamp partition - is there a solution that works?

Dealing with bootcamp issues after a Lion upgrade seems to be a common problem with no agreed solution.
When I upgraded my iMac to Lion, the upgrade process couldn't create a recovery partition so Apple support advised me to use Disk Utility to create a small (5 GB)  block of free space on my harddisk for the recovery partition to use and then to use Disk Utility to enlarge the OSX partition again to recover whatever remaining free space was left after the Lion upgrade had completed.
This I duly did. However, after I enlarged the OSX partition using Disk Utility to recover the free space I found that a) the Bootcamp partition had been renamed "disk0s4" and b) when holding down the Option key when booting, the Recovery option was now labelled "EFI Boot" and appeared to boot from the regular OSX partition. Attempting to boot windows in Bootcamp results in a "missing operating system" error message.
I'm not so worried about the recovery partition as I have a bootable DVD and USB flash drive.
What I would like to do is recover some files from the Windows partition. There is a lot of opinions in the Apple suport forums about what works such as, booting Windows from the install disk and running the "fixmbr" and "fixboot" commands or using rEFIt or BootPicker (which doesn't seem to work on Lion).
Is there a reliable approach to fixing this problem so that I can at least read the contents of the partition, even if I can't boot from it? If I can't actualy recover the partition I'm not too fussed, so long as I can get the data off it.
    Thanks...Macs

Why do you suggest installing Lion on an external h/disk? Is this because of problems with Lion or just suggested standard procedure?
Some of the options may work although I am unable to mount the partition at all (in OSX or by booting from a Linux live CD and trying to mount it from there) so I'm not sure how far any of them will get.
I haven't tried booting from the Windows DVD as yet.

I wondered whether the entry in the partition table had been completely screwed so I had a look with FDisk and GDisk.
GDisk says this about the partition table:
    Disk /dev/disk0: 976773168 sectors, 465.8 GiB
    Logical sector size: 512 bytes
    Disk identifier (GUID): FB4FA8FD-D192-4589-93E1-A19A9F0F29D7
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 976773134
Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
Total free space is 13 sectors (6.5 KiB)
Number  Start (sector)    End (sector)  Size       Code  Name
       1              40          409639   200.0 MiB   EF00  EFI System Partition
       2          409640       869550263   414.4 GiB   AF00  Customer
       3       869550264       870727719   574.9 MiB   AB00  Recovery HD
       4       870727720       976773127   50.6 GiB    0700  Untitled
    And this about partition 4:
    Partition number (1-4): 4
Partition GUID code: EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7 (Microsoft basic data)
    Partition unique GUID: 94C06328-9817-4012-9C30-C97592E671C1
First sector: 870727720 (at 415.2 GiB)
Last sector: 976773127 (at 465.8 GiB)
Partition size: 106045408 sectors (50.6 GiB)
    Attribute flags: 0000000000000000
    Partition name: 'Untitled'
    For its part FDisk says:
    Disk: /dev/disk0     geometry: 60801/255/63 [976773168 sectors]
    Signature: 0xAA55
             Starting       Ending
#: id  cyl  hd sec -  cyl  hd sec [     start -       size]
    1: EE 1023 254  63 - 1023 254  63 [         1 -     409639]  Unknown ID
    2: AF 1023 254  63 - 1023 254  63 [    409640 -  869140624] HFS+
    3: AB 1023 254  63 - 1023 254  63 [ 869550264 -    1177456] Darwin Boot
    *4: 07 1023 254  63 - 1023 254  63 [ 870727720 -  106045408] HPFS/QNX/AUX
From looking at the Fdisk and GDisk output I cannot see where the problem is occurring (although I know 2/5ths of stuff all about partition tables). I notice that the Bootcamp partition is now lacking a name although I don't know whether this matters or not and strangely FDisk identifies it as an HPFS filesystem whereas Disk Utility identifies it as MSDOS (FAT).

  • Can I recover lost contacts?

A little kid wiped out my phone a little while ago probably a month but he wiped out all the data by inputting the wrong code too many times and I was able to redownload all my lost media and stuff and most of my contacts were saved. However, a few of the contacts weren't and I was wondering if its possible to recover them?

        Hi there DaveBrock,
Those kids can be quite destructive when it comes to technology sometimes! Did you previously have your contacts backed up anywhere? Google, Backup Assistant, Verizon Cloud? If yes, then you should be able to recover them from there. If not, there wouldn't be a way for us to recover lost contacts.

If all your files are missing
You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.
If files are missing from one folder
Change the Finder view mode; for example, from icon view to list view, or vice versa.

    Hi finecut,
I believe this Mac Mail Help info may help:
    Backing up your mail
You can back up your mailboxes to a CD or another disk. To do this, you can either copy the Mail folder in your Library folder or create an mbox file, a common format for storing mail messages.
    ▪ To save the contents of all your mailboxes, hold down the Option key and drag the Mail folder to your desktop or to another disk. The Mail folder is in the Library folder in your home folder (~/Library/Mail).
Copying the Mail folder only backs up mail from POP accounts, or mail from an IMAP account that you've copied to On My Mac. When you are ready to restore the Mail folder, choose File > Import Mailboxes, select Mail for Mac OS X, and locate the Mail folder.
    ▪ To create an mbox copy of a mailbox, drag the mailbox from the mailbox list to your desktop.
    ▪ To create an mbox file with just some of your messages, select the messages, then choose File > Save As. In the Format pop-up menu, choose Raw Message Source, then enter a name and save the file.
You can copy mbox files to CDs or to other disks. When you want to restore your mail, choose File > Import Mailboxes, select "Standard mbox files," and locate the files.
    hope that helps,

Go back to your voicemail - you should have a deleted messge - click that and check.
If you don't have that then you can restore your phone from your last backup if it included that voicemail

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • How to recover lost product license keys and not just Microsoft licenses?

Which products have you tried?  Have you looked at Magic Jelly Bean?  Depending on the OS and software, some keys are not retrievable.  You should also know that certain software are not transferable from one PC to another, reference the license terms of each for clarification.

There are so many products out there that claim to recover lost software license keys and all of the ones I've tried either recover only MS license keys or no keys at all.  I'm trying to recover keys from my fathers old system to install on his new one and some of the products he used do not have the keys available.  Anyone out there with a viable product key recovery tool that will get back more than just MS license keys?
My father will be greatly pleased.

How do I remove recovered photos (used photorec to recover lost photos) to have more space in my macbook pro HD?

    Hello there, Shrid.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews how to Sync photos:
    iTunes: Syncing photos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
You will just sync to the new computer. Keep in mind:
    Additional Information
Syncing photos with your device will create an iPod photo cache.
Syncing photos can only happen from one computer or user account at a time. Syncing photos with a different computer or user replaces the photos on the device.
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
Email them from the device to yourself.
Copy them from the emails to your computer.
On iPhone and iPod touch using iOS 5 and iOS 6, all synced photos will appear in a unified category called photo library. Photos are not duplicated; this is a way to view all synced albums in one place. You can also tap a specific album beneath photo library to view individual albums.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

    Pedro D.
