Recover music without losing app data, photos, etc.

I am unable to sync music from my computer to my iphone, after deleting the music on the iphone to make space for updating my gps app. Itunes now shows the songs as still on the iphone, but grayed out.
How do I get the music back onto the iphone, without losing my app, photo, and other data?
I'm also using iCloud to sync. The iphone is using the current version of iOS 5.
Thanks!

  • I want to move from pc to mac without losing app data

i have a new mac mini that has itunes and some music/tv shows/movies on it.  but i want to move my main itunes library from my pc to my new mac mini.  i know i can just copy my itunes folder from my pc to the mac, but i want to move my iphone data from pc to mac without losing app data (especially game data).  can I just copy my pc iphone backup data files to the mac and have them work in mac format?  or can i just plug in my iphone on the new mac, do a backup/restore and continue syncing from there?  does anyone have any advice on the best way to move iphone from pc to mac?

I was fighting this battle the past few days myself; but actually it is REALLY easy now. See here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/146958/2010/03/moveitunes_windowsmac.html
Then, once iTunes was on the Mac, I did this:
    1. On the Mac rename ...\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl as ...\iTunes\iTunes Library
    2. On the Mac delete ...\iTunes\iTunes Library Genius.itdb (Apparently the PC & Mac versions are not compatible - iTunes will just rebuild it later)
    3. Launch iTunes and immediately press & hold down the Option key until a dialog opens asking you to Choose a library. Navigate to the folder/drive you've copied from the PC and open ...\iTunes\iTunes Library.
(thanks to turingtest2 for the above steps)
That was it. Did it yesterday evening. All playlists, libraries, everything copied fine. No problems; no broken links. Perfect.

  • Migration from PC to Mac without losing application data (savegames etc.)

    Hello everyone,
I am migrating from from my old Windows PC onto a MacBook Pro, and I'm having difficulties with iTunes and my iOS devices (iPhone 4, iPad 1). Maybe someone here can help me out, I'd be ever so grateful.
I set up iTunes on my MBP yesterday and logged in to my account. I replaced the empty iTunes Media folder with my old one (which contains all my music, videos and applications) via an external hard drive.
First problem: it wouldn't import these files into my new library automatically. Just showed me an empty library I think I imported the entire iTunes Media folder manually yesterday via "Add to folder". The status right now (after some experimentation) is old iTunes Media folder copied, but nothing imported (that is, I have an empty library).
When I connected my iPhone and tried to synch, I first had to authorize the MacBook for the iPhone. So far, so good. However when I tried to synch iTunes warned me that if I synch, all data on the iPhone will be removed and replaced by the data from my new local library (which is, of couse a copy of my old library, but doesn't store application data like savegames).
I tried to do it via "transfer purchased items from iPhone", which took forever, but yielded the same result: a warning that all data on the iPhone would be erased.
So the question is: How do I connect my iPhone and iPad to iTunes on my new Mac without losing application data like settings and savegames? And why is this so complicated and intransparent? I should be able to just copy my media, say "authorize this Computer, then add iPhone to the registered devices" and then proceed like nothing ever changed.
I searched the net until three in the morning yesterday, but couldn't find anything that sounded safe enough to give it a try.
Thanks in advance and best Regards,
    Nate
PS: I do have the backup-folders from my old PC on a USB stick - are those going to help?

  • How do I sync my iPhone to a new Comp. without losing app data?

A few weeks ago I bought a Mac Pro from Ebay. I'm trying to sync my iPhone to it, but I can't figure out how to sync without losing my son's data on the apps he plays. I have some music on the new computer that I ripped from some of my old CD's. Is their any way to sync my phone's app info. with my computer's songs?

To be sure you don't lose any App data
             Create an iCloud backup
    2nd
    Prevent syncing automatically in iTunes
Windows    Edit > Preferences > Devices
√ Prevent iPods, iPhone .... syncing automatically
    3rd
Connect the iPhone to the PC
Setup as new.  This just tells the PC to treat the iPhone as a new device
    4th
    From the summary screen
    Create a backup
      Transfer apps
      Save App data.

  • How can I do a hard reset without losing app data?

I have international texting on my phone and it's having an issue sending images to my friends overseas. The words go through but no media.
I have Verizon's More Everything plan and after two days trying to get this sorted on their end, they want me to try a hard reset and test the texting before I restore my backup to see if it's something in the phone.
the last time I had to do this I lost EVERYTHING regarding data in my apps. Some of the apps I have now I cannot afford to lose the info stored in them.
I need to make sure that I can restore safely once we are done with the troubleshooting.
If I have to manually put my items back in, HOW can I do that with the apps I really need the data preserved?
FYI - ALL my settings for iMessage are correct.
My international friends are not using iPhone AND I checked my settings there and they too are correct.
So, before I go and wipe everything out, can someone reassure me with some directions and ease my worries?

OK I'm going to say this for the what? 3rd time?
I know the difference between a hard RESET and a full RESTORE. My mistake in the OP was mixing up the WORDS.
If you read carefully, you would have probably figured it out without all this arguing.
I'm going to make this simple ok?
Verizon wants me to do do a RESTORE and NOT put my data back in from the backup.
They want me to test what is broken to see if it works.
If it works, then i am to RESTORE THE BACKUP and test again.
I just don't want to lose data on the backup and restore. I have indeed lost data with restoring a backup when iOS 7 came out. It was a disaster.
I fully understand what you are saying but I am TRYING to explain that it failed the last time I had to do this. I cannot make myself any more clear.
Now, I think I'm done with this since it's all become such a topic of contention. All I wanted to know is if it could be done without losing data and now the stupid cloud comes into it, those with good intentions are getting yelled at by the guy with the basketball avatar and I just don't have the strength to keep repeating myself.
All of this would be so easy if people took the time to read all the words and when / if not sure, read it again. That's what I do and I find it helpful.
You should probably go back and re read all of my response to you.  Which answered all your question.  I don't need to repeat myself again and again.

  • How can I sync my iPhone to a new PC without losing app data?

My laptop has died completely and no back up. I am not concerned with music or photos as they're all online somewhere. I do have a couple of apps with data on them which I cannot lose if I sync my iPhone with iTunes on a new laptop. Will my data be lost if I sync it and if so is there an (easy) way to keep my apps/app data?

  • Reinstalling tiger without losing apps, documents, mail etc

    Hi,
I wish to reinstall my tiger operating system on my powerbook g12, I have all the installer discs etc, and wondered if there was a way I could do this so I could save all the settings Basically I bought this computer for my G/friend, subsequently she doesn't use it anymore having bought a mac book, so I want to change the main user id etc, and apparently the only way you can do this is by reinstalling the system...which i'm prepared to do, however i wanted to preserve all the mail, applications and documents...is their an option for doing this?
    thank you

Which data did you transfer for the Mail.app?
You need a copy of the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail and a copy of the Mail.app preference file at Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist.
The Mail.app preference file stores all account information and general Mail.app settings and is required along with the Mail folder when moving all Mail.app data from one login account to another or from one Mac to another and the Mail.app should be quit when doing so.
Sounds like you transferred the Mail folder only but doing so will not mess up the operating system.
If all you need to do is transfer Mail.app data and documents, this should be fairly easy and straightforward and nothing needs to be done with existing applications this way.
Re-installing OS X via an Archive & Install will do what you want but this will re-create your girlfriend's login account and you will be right back where you started.
Your only other option is backing up all data and performing an Erase & Install which will require re-installing all 3rd party applications and re-installing all available OS X, Security and Apple application updates, etc and then restoring all data from the backup.
My first suggestion is the easiest by far IMO.

  • Is it possible to restore the Ipad without losing app data?

I have about 150 or so drawings saved to my Sketchbook App. My Ipad is 32GB, but 20 of that 32 is being taken up by the "other" catagory. I found that it could be useful to restore the IPad to rid it of this "other", but I also heard app data can not be restored. Since some of my 150 drawing are unfinished and I dont want to delete them, is it possible to keep the app data as well as delete the "other"?

    @pple@rtist wrote:

A  ' Large Other ' usually indicates Corrupt Data...
First Try a Restore from Backup...
But... if the Large Other Persists, that is an Indicator of Corrupt Data in the Backup...
Then a Restore as New is the way to go...

Copy the entire iTunes media folder from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer.

  • Need to update IOS without losing pictures, data entries, etc

I have an IPhone 4 and really need to update my IOS (I'm still on 4.3.1).   When I attempted to update it a long time ago, I received a pop-up message saying it would "delete all of the apps and media, including iTunes Store purchases" on my phone and said "to preserve your content, apply this update on the computer where you sync apps, music, videos, and photos.  Updating on this computer will only preserve contacts, calendars, text messages, and other settings."  I have synced my phone with iTunes several times and can see where it has saved my apps and I have my pictures from the photo app that came with my phone so I'm not concerned about them.  What I am concerned about is trying to save photos that are in a pass code locked photo app, entries made in my calendar (Dr's appointments, concert events, meeting dates, etc), and ENTRIES into a private diary that I have written in for several years.  I see the diary app on iTunes, but have no way of knowing if the contents/entries inside were saved.  My phone didn't come with ICloud and I am unable to download it on my phone because of the IOS, but I was able (using another IPhone) to get ICloud on my PC, but have been unable to find out if I can save these photos and diary entries there long enough to update my IOS. I'd really hate to lose 2-3 years worth of diary entries, but I seriously need to update my IOS!   If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!!

    You cannot.
The iPhone is designed to sync to one and only one library.
Attempts to sync (which is required to update) will wipe the content from the device and replace it with content from the new library.
They need to fix or replace their home pc and then upgrade.

  • How do I sync my iPhone to my new computer without losing App data?

Okay, I just recently got a black 13" MacBook & did a clean install of everything on it. I also just updated my iPhone 3G to iOS4, which erased all my music but left my apps & other data in place. When I click the "manually manage" checkbox in the summary tab for the phone & click Apply, I get the error message "The iPhone " " is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? Well of course not! I have already authorized the account on the new computer & transferred purchases from the phone. My question is, if I go ahead & do this, will all my apps be reset as if they were brand new? I know it sounds silly, but I have HOURS invested into my Angry Birds game & would rather live without music on the phone than lose that game's progress. Obviously, I shouldn't have to choose, it should "just work"....... Where do I go from here? My old computer is long gone but I do still have a Time Machine backup of it on an external drive if I need to pull a file from the old iTunes folder or anything (which I hope not because I already spent hours sorting through & figuring out what I wanted to add to my new computer's library). Any help on this would be much appreciated!

Any luck? I have this exact problem, only I prob have days invested in angry birds LOL. Scares the poop out of me to see that warning.

  • I want to do a reinstall of Yosemite without losing apps, preferences, photos, and files. How do I do this?

I have a SSD/MacBook Pro late 2011. I had Mavericks on it. I have several backup external hard drives. I installed Yosemite onto one of them to test and see if all my apps worked and my drives for my printer/scanner/copier... all worked. I decided to install Yosemite on my computer SSD... but it was saying it would take upwards of 5-6 hours to download...I didn't have the time...so I got impatient... and copied Yosemite from the external hard drive to my SSD/MacBook Pro using Carbon Copy Cloner's latest version. The SSD/MacBook Pro was bootable and all my apps worked along with my driver. Only problem is that the SSD/MacBook Pro takes so much much much longer to boot than before. Is that Yosemite's problem? or is that because of the way I installed Yosemite on my SSD MacBook Pro? Will installing Yosemite again the proper way fix the boot up time problem?

Re-installing Yosemite via the App store saved all my apps (they still work)... saved all my files and documents...etc... on my computer and now the boot up is very very very quick compared to before...also quicker than with Mavericks...and much quicker than my external hard drive with Yosemite!!!! Wasn't that complicated after all!!!!

Make sure you have a full backup of your iPhone before recyncing with the iMac as during this process all data will be wiped out from your iPhone.
