Recover my data?

Hi,
Have a Laptop and it seems it dont want to play any more, screen black...hardware fail, not Archlinux.
My question is if I can remove the harddrive, use my external drive-bay attach the disk and mount it in another laptop and recover my documents and photos?
If I add the disk and do a tail -f /var/log/messages I can see that its give a name; [sdb]
If I try mount -t auto /dev/sdb /media/usb or -t ext4 I get:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
(could this be the IDE device where you in fact use
ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail  or so
The drive is an old IDE...
Thx for any help!

You're trying to mount the drive, rather than the partition, so the errors are expected. Mount /dev/sdb1 instead.

  • Can i recover lost data from encrypted drive by Bitlocker

Hello Dears. I had encrypted my drive by Bitlocker in windows 7.
few days after my friend did quick format in my encrypted drive.
my 300 gb of data lost. and nothing saved
    i remember unlock password.
how can i recover my data ??? i need my data
i tried drive recovering tools (advanced EFS data recovery, easeus . . ,) . but . . . it's encrypted and formatted drive.
can i undo quick format and decrypt ???
sorry my english is not good.
    someone help me please.

BitLocker is not the cause of failed to recover files.
Format a drive will clear all data saved on the hard disk. Thus recovery formatted data will be a hard disk based technology but not related to operation system. There is no build-in data recovery feature in Windows operations. So we will needto use third party recovery tool or contact third party data recovery company for current issue.
As recovery missing data service will be expensive, we can also check emails and contact friends to see if that can help get a part of files back especially for photos, documents etc.

  • Is there a way to recover iCal data from computer or iPhone backup through iTunes?

I  synched my iPad  with my computer and my ALL of my iCal information disappeared from my computer. I tried put my calendar information back on my computer from my iPhone, but instead the reverse happened, and all of my calendar information disappeared from my iPhone, too.
I am using an older MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo), running Mac OS X Lion version 10.7.4, an iPhone 4, iPad 1, and iPod Touch, all using iOS 5.1.1 (9B206). I regularly use iCal on my iPhone and on my computer, but not on the iPad and iPod Touch.
I do not use iCloud because my personal calendar and contact information was appearing on other family member's iPhones. (We share an iTunes library in under my Apple ID, and I did not want to create a different Apple ID for iCloud yet.).
Is there a way to recover my iCal info on my computer? Or alternatively, could I recover it on my iPhone from my iTunes backups (my iTunes backups are encrypted)?
Of course, I learned my lesson, and if I recover my data, I will back up my calendar daily, but for now, valuable information is lost, and I would like to recover it if at all possible.
Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You'll have to confirm with the developer of Keeper whether the data is stored as part of the iPhone backup or not. If it is, then restoring the iPhone from your latest back should restore the data to Keeper. My guess, though, is that since the free version of Keeper won't allow you to create a backup, the data is not part of the iTunes backup and hence won't be restored.
    Regards.

  • HELP! How to recover lost data for a 7 month period?

I was doing my usual daily syncing (via USB cable) between my Zire 21 to my iMac OSX ver. 10.4.11 and then I noticed that my data disappeared from Feb 18 to Sept 19 2008....
I have my PalmDesktop ver 4.1 data on my iMac since 1998 - it is my diary of my life & work.
What happened?  I cannot seem to find a way to recover this data....I would appreciate help to recover or even an explanation why that period of time disappeared.....

I have edited your post to remove your personal information. It is never a good idea to leave an email address to be easily grabbed by a webcrawler..and leaving a phone number is just asking for more trouble..

Is it possible to recover ical data lost in a sync?

Your only bet is to resotre from the Time Machine backup. However when you do this the sync process will promptly delete the calendars again, so you need to work through the slightly convoluted method detailed in this page:

Accidentally deleted data from XD card, don't panic. I suggest an advance and professional XD card recovery software, you can use third-party software Kernel for Digital Media Recovery Tool. It can quickly restore all lost data from XD card. This software
also supports all kinds of multimedia files such as SD Card (Secure Digital), Multi Media Card (MMC), Compact Flash (CF), XD Card, Micro SD card, , Memory Stick. To more details kindly read this post : http://digitalmediarecovery.blogspot.com/2013/12/retrieve-lost-data-from-memory-card.html

  • Recovering lost data from a very old backup (disaster recovery)

    Hi all,
I am trying to restore and recover data from an old DAT-72 cassette. All I know is the date when the backup was taken, that is back in November 2006. I do not know the DBID or anything else except for the date.
To recover this, I bought an internal SCSI HP c7438a DAT-72 tape drive on eBay and installed it on a machine running Windows 2003 Server SP2. I made a fresh Oracle 11g Enterprise Edition installation. HP tape drivers have been installed and Windows sees the tape drive without problem. To act as a Media Manager, I have installed Oracle Secure Backup. Oracle Secure Backup sees the HP tape drive without problems as well.
I have to admit my information about Oracle is not very in-depth. I read quite a lot of documents, but the more I read the more confused I become. The closest thing I can find to my situation is the following guide about disaster recovery:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10500_01/server.920/a96566/rcmrecov.htm#1007948
I tried the suggestions in this document without success (details below).
    My questions are:
    1. Is it possible to retrieve data without knowing the DBID?
    2. If not, is it possible to figure out the DBID from the tape? I tried to use dd in cygwin, also booted with Knoppix/Debian and Ubuntu CDs to dump the contents of the tape with dd but all of them failed to see the tape device. If there is any way to dump the raw contents of the tape on Windows, I would also welcome input.
    3. Is there any way at all to recover this data from the tape given all the unknowns?
    Thanks very much in advance,

    Hi 845725,
If the backups were created with OSB might be you can query the tape with obtool.
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10gR2/backup.102/b14236/obref_oba.htmTo list pieces you could use <lspiece> within obtool.
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10gR2/backup.102/b14236/obref_oba.htm#BHBBIFFEIf this works you should be able to identify the controlfile autobackup if it has the standard naming < c-dbid-date-xx > and you than know the DBID or you are able to restore a controlfile from a backup piece in the output list.
Might be you have to install 9i or 10g rdbms software as 11g was released a year later in 2007.
    Anyway goodluck.

  • Can I recover my data?

Can some one give me any advice on how to recover my data, last week I was using my powerbook and I was doing what I usually do which is listening to music, surf the web, download files, chat to friends and doing some work.
Everything was fine until I saved the work that I was working on. The spinning beach ball came up, I didn’t pay much attention to it at first my machine is getting old and the beach ball appears from time to time. Unfortunately after 5 min of spinning it was still there, I though my application had crash (I was using omnioutliner pro at the time) so I did the commandoptionesc to force quit the application and nothing after 25min I ended up turning the power off the machine, and that’s when my problem started.
I restarted my machine the chime sounded and it booted to the white screen with the grey apple logo, unfortunately that’s as far as it got it would not load any further and I could also hear a horrible noise coming from the hard drive it was just constantly spinning none stop. After several attempts I still got the same results.
The next day I tried again but this time my machine loaded after waiting for almost 10min to fully load, I noticed two things first it no longer asked me for my password on login (I have an administrator account setup on this machine) and second I had about 18GB left of hard drive space on the machine before the crash happened when I did finally get it to boot up all I had left was 5GB of hard drive space.
First thing I did was start to back up my data onto an external hard drive so far I have been able to recover 40% of it, the main reason why I haven’t been able to recover the rest is that the machine is that it's so sloooooooow everything takes ages but other times it works just fine for a few minutes but then the spinning beach ball appears and that’s it the machine will no longer respond. Trying to recover all my photos and music and some work documents has been a nightmare since I have about a total of 48GB worth of data, I have tried to keep the file sizes below 500mb when I copy over to my external hard drive but either the spinning beach ball appears or its just stops all together in the middle of the transfer.
Can some one please help me get my precious data back?
    Thank you

If that does not work, you have a mechanical problem with the hard drive which only a data recovery firm can help recover from. Those cost thousands.
Well this very much depends. If you initiate a file copy operation within OS X it verifies all operations, and the file itself. With a failing drive this can both take a massive amount of time and make the problem worse by stressing the components. It's a nightmare if the disk map is damaged.
Data recovery firms however duplicate the drive, errors and all, into an image. You can do this yourself in the Terminal using the dd command (if you have an external drive slightly larger than the failing one). I paid around £250-300 to have my files recovered this way (before I knew about dd!). They then work on the image, and typically only files that were across the physical damage are unrecoverable. Most other files are fine, however attributes such as location, date created/modified etc are lost.
The fact that the OP can still access files, albeit slowly, strongly indicates that this approach would recover the vast majority of his files without the need for a clean-room disassembly (which, yes, can cause spiraling costs).

Is it possible to recover my data from iCloud backup without working wifi? I have as many other upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 7.0.2 with the result that the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth no longer works. However, i can connect to iTunes via cable but there is wrong version of backup.

    Answer is no.
If you want the iCloud backup you have to have n internet connection, thus WiFi.
The not working WiFi has happened with quite a number of users.
It is not exactly clear what is the cause but there are suggestions to clear it up:
Some people have had success by removing an apostrophe from the iPhone name. If your iPhone is called something like “John’s iPhone” then this might work. Go to Settings > General > About > Name and change it to something with no apostrophe.
Some people have reported success by putting the iPhone into Airplane mode and then going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings, but the problem may return.
You could also try going to Settings > Control Center and disable Access on Lock Screen then turn your iPhone off and on again.
Make sure that your router firmware is up to date.
Try backing up your iPhone and then restoring it. Check how to factory reset an iPhone for details.
If nothing is working for you, try contacting Apple or take your iPhone into an Apple Store.
    Succes, Lex

  • I've broke my phone, it won't switch on, is there any way to recover the data from it?

My phone has split up the side after I dropped it down some concrete stairs and now it won't switch on, so I need to know if there is anyway to recover the data from it, such as phone numbers, photo's etc. Anyone had this problem?
I've tried plugging it in to the computer but it doesn't do anything, and tried plugging it in to the wall to see if that will switch it on, but nothing.
    Any help gratefully received! Steve

If it will not turn on - you have zero chance of getting anything off the phone.

  • I accidentally deleted my trash. Is there any way to undo it/recover the data?

Unfortunately, I don't have Time Machine set up on my MacBook Pro. And I can't do a "Cmd+z" because I've already performed other actions.
I had probably 50-100 GB worth of .mov files. I don't have them backed up anywhere else. I have Lion, but I'm not sure if that will be of any help because I didn't have the files open in a program that would use the "versions" or "autosave" features.
I already contacted Apple, and they said they couldn't legally recover the data because the trash has already been emptied, whatever that means.
Is there anything I can do to recover these files?
Also, are there any proven data recovery programs for Mac that will get the job done?
    Thanks!

First, stop doing anything with the computer that had these files.
Second, there are programs that can recover data.  How effective they are is based upon many factors that can't be listed here.  One of those factors is how much work you have done with the computer after deleting the files.
I have had success with Data Rescue.  Past experience does not guarantee future results.
You will need a second hard drive to save any recovered data.

I am not all that tech savy but I am trying ot understand what you are saying. I have a similar problem. After IOS5 update my address book is gone. What do you mean synch with outlook, windows yahoo, google? I have created all of my contatcs directly on the iphone and do not use those other addressbooks you are referring to. Yes I haev email but I do not email all the contatcs I had in my phone book on my phone nor do I need them there. When i save a new contacts it automatically gets assigned a photo from the old address book in alphabetical order. Those pics are not saved in my camera roll. Leads me to believe the address book is somewhere. This should not be this difficult.... takes a long time to compile these address books.
