Recover Old Library - e811 Errors

Prior to moving from GW6.5 NetWare to GW 7 Linux, we asked all users to
recover their documents from the Default Library (which was not meant to be
used)! We successfully migrated to Linux, deleting the Library to ensure
that nobody used DMS again. Two months later, it appears that a couple of
important documents exist in the old Library.
Not to worry, we still have the the file system. I have built both Windows
and NetWare virtual machines and grafted on the Old Mail System. We never
used the GW passwords, so I have reconfigured the system to use LDAP
authentication. When I connect with the client, can see the document
references, but receive E811 messages when trying to connect.
I have done gwcheck Documents, Content & Fix, which extracts the Documents
in a nice Tree, but gwdocnam.exe complains that the log file is in the
incorrect format (mind you the util was written for GW55). The
documentation suggests that the files are uncompressed, but if I rename the
documents to the type in the gwcheck.log, then they cannot be opened.
Anyone got any ideas what to do now?
Thanks
Chris

Thanks a lot, Frank. The lsregister did the trick! I am testing this on 10.8.2.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24770 : I deleted the "com.apple.LaunchServices.plist", and restarted the Finder, even logged off and on again; did not change anything. The file has not been recreated, so it may not be used anymore.

The direct "copy and paste" from the post did not work: I had to retype it :
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
but then it worked like a charm!
    Cheers

And btw: I turned on the "-v" option for the lsregister to see, what was going on, and saw plenty of error messages (error -10811); so I repeated the command with "sudo". After that I still saw five iPhotos. Repeating as regular user finally got rid of the redundant iPhoto entries. It looks like registering as super user may be causing this trouble.

  • Lose old library if setup new ipod as new to escape restore from bkup loop?

I just bought an iPod Touch 5th gen.  I hope to give my 2nd gen iPod Touch to my daughter.  However, I am stuck in a 'restore from back up' loop.  No error messages, just get the same start over screen again and again.
First, I backed up old iPod to old XP computer.  Then accidentally set up New one as new.  Did not see any of my music except purchased.
I plugged in Old, and it told me that it was tied to another library, but would never tell me how to get to it.  Just told me I could erase and sync to this empty one.
I started over on my newer Windows 7 computer and installed lastest iTunes and backed up Old iPod on it.  Then, I tried to Restore my New iPod from the Old one's backup.  It appeared to work, but when the New one rebooted, it asked for me to pick language, country, wi-fi settings and setup/backup choice again. I have been stuck there ever since.  I can not get to anything else on New iPod.
I have put it into DFU recover mode and reset it and then selected the restore from backup process again, but didn't help.  After much research, I changed USB ports and turned off my Noton Security, but didn't matter.  I am at a loss now.
So, if I now set the New one up as new, will I lose all access to old library containing over 1600 songs from CDs in addition to the 450 some songs I purchased under that account?
Advice, please.  Is there a way to get out of this loop or do I just need to take the ipod back to the store?  Please assume I am clueless and explain steps.
    Thanks....

You said "So, if I now set the New one up as new, will I lose all access to old library containing over 1600 songs from CDs in addition to the 450 some songs I purchased under that account?"
I do not understand you concern since the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include any synced media like apps and music,
Therefroe, try restoring fo factory settings/new iPod.
Also see if you missed anything here:

Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • Somehow my itunes started a new library and I lost my old library. Itunes will not allow me to sync new music to my ipod without deleting stored music from ipod. How can I start using this new library and sync the new music without losing existing music.

Somehow my Itunes started a new music library and I lost the old library.  Itunes will not allow me to sync new music from my computer to my Ipod because it is now in a different library. Itunes wants to delete all my Ipod music before sync any new music. How do I work around this. I think this happened during Itunes Upates.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Hello, I'm trying to transfer my old itunes library to a new computer using home sharing. It's switched on in both computers, but I can't see the old library in the new computer. But I can see tracks from the new computer on the old one. Please help.

Apologies for poor syntax, my arm's a little sore. Yes, one computer (old) is vista, new is Windows 8. Shouldn't I be able to import the whole library using home sharing? Am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance

I am having the same issue.  I recently purchased a new laptop and I have spent the last 3 days using the home share to slowly transfer all 22,000 songs.  However yesterday morning when I turned on both computers to continue the process I am having the following issue:
both computers are running the same windows OS (8)
both computers are running the same version of itunes
both computers are logged in with the same apple ID
both computers have home sharing turned on
Now however I can see the NEW computers itunes library in the drop down box on the OLD computer, however I can not see the OLD computers itunes library on the NEW computer.  I can no longer see "HOME SHARES" on the drop down LIBRARY list on the new computer.  I've taken the following steps to correct the error:
    reset the router
completely shut down BOTH computers and brought them back up
    reopened itunes
    re-logged in on both PC's
re-activated both PC's with home share
The articles and help from the apple sites are worthless and it says if you can't see a library just turn home sharing off then back on - I've completed the above steps NUMEROUS times.  After spending 4 days on transferring my music I really do not want to have to start over by using an external hard drive and then importing that way.  I would like some help on discovering why the new laptop is no longer seeing my old library. (When it has been working up to this point)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Bought a new computer and want to recover old iTunes?

Our old computer we had blew its power supply, so we bought a new one. We have a Free Agent Go Flex Drive that saved all our old files on it, and I wanted to recover my old iTunes program as is. I am a statistician, and one of my projects I was hired to do was to tabulate a study on the "Times Played" section of an iTunes library. All I want to do is load the old iTunes onto my new computer from the drive, so that I have my library and statistical data intact. I tried loading the old iTunes, but it said I couldn't because "iTunes Library can not be opened because it was created by a newer version of iTunes". Is there any way I can just use the newer version of iTunes my computer downloaded to run my old library as it was, meaning with all my songs added with the correct number of "Times Played" values and all the other specifics?

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

I have a new mac book air and somehow iPhoto was installed twice.  Also, a second library was created and it became the default library.  I attempted to switch to the original library but it won't open.  what can I do to revert to the old library?

Both iPhotos open to a default library (#2) which has 300+ photos,  I attempted to "switch to library" under the file tab in iPhoto and tried to choose "other library" which had most of my photos.  When I attempt to open it, it doesn't do anything.  I can see it and there are 2 libraries but it won't open.
Have you tried to open your old iPhoto library by double-clicking it directly, instead of using the File menu?  That should work, if you are running iPhoto '11 and the library has been created by that version or an older version.  DO you get an error message, if you select the library directly in the Finder?
I checked and it is the latest version of iPhoto.
Is it iPhoto '11, version 6.0.5? "Latest version" is ambiguous, because it will depend on your system version.
Where is your iPhoto Library stored?

My old hard drive crashed and had to get it replaced. How do I reinstall my old library to the new hard drive from my iphone4s so I don't lose my music?

Officially you don't. Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

  • How do I import playlists from an old library file?

How do I import playlists from an old library file?
I have a new computer and it has the music files completely reorganized from my last computer so I can't just drop in my old library files and have it work. Basically, I'm hoping there is some way to recover my old playlists from my old backed up copy of my music library without recreating my old jumbled file paths and just using my old library.

Backup the current passwords with the Password Exporter extension.
Then you can re-import them afterward.
For restoring the names and passwords from Firefox 3.5.x and later you need the file signons.sqlite from the old profile.
You also need the corresponding file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/key3.db key3.db] that stores the encryption key in addition to the signons file.
    Password Exporter: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2848
    See also http://kb.mozillazine.org/Password_Manager#Backing_up_and_restoring_passwords
For the bookmarks to need to do something similar unless you have a HTML backup of the old bookmarks because restoring a JSON backup replaces all current bookmarks.
If you need to preserve current bookmarks then you can export your bookmarks in Firefox to an HTML file and import that file afterward.
Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Export HTML & Import HTML > From File
Another possibility is to use the clipboard to store selected bookmarks before restoring a JSON backup (e.g. All Bookmarks: Ctrl + A and Ctrl + C).
You can paste the bookmarks from the clipboard back after you have restored a JSON backup.
That will preserve all data including tags and annotations, but you should create an HTML backup to be safe.

  • "no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path" error when connecting a TNS database co

    Hi
"no ocijdbc11 in java.library.path" error when connecting a TNS database connection
I have the same problem 'error code' when testing the connection to a database although I have an APEX db that connects without a problem.
I have re downloaded jre & SQL Developer just to ensure all files are where they should be with no luck.
I've also tried most of the suggestions in various threads.
Does anyone know what exactly causes this error?
eg; should I be looking for a file called 'ocijdbc11' & put it into the 'java.library.path' path?
Can anyone explain to a newbie at db connections what I should do?
I'm using the 'thin' client as the checkbox is clear & I don't know what path to enter into the correct file to make this work??
This is & needs to connect as a TNS connection & was working fine until recently, the only change I can think of is a move of files from the 'C' drive but I thought redownloading SQL Developer would slove this.
    Thanks

When you reinstalled SQL Developer, did you install into a new directory (ie rename or delete the old directory first)?
I don't know if system setup contains directory references (which might be invalid after moving the location of SQL Developer). Does renaming your system2.1.1.64.45 directory (in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\SQL Developer) help? Note that your connections are in the connections.xml file in the o.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.2.36.55.30 subdirectory of system2.1.1.64.45 - you will either need to export connections before renaming and then import again after or copy this file to test if you can connect.
Finally, the TNS Names directory preference is just a way of telling SQL Developer where to look for the tnsnames.ora file, rather than just assuming it will pick the right one. If you go to create a new connection, do you get the right list of TNS aliases? If not, then set this preference to the directory where the right tnsnames.ora file lives.

Well, your profile info says 10.4.11, and you are posting your question in the iMac (PPC) category.  If you are running Snow Leopard, it must be a fairly recent Intel iMac.
In that case, you should definitely post your question here
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.6_snow_leopard
where other Snow Leopard users can see your question.  Restate the problem, what error messages you get, and what you have tried already (for trouble-shooting).

  • IMovie 10 can´t import old library

    Hi,
my iMovie crashed, the app didn´t open anymore.
So I uninstalled it and got the App back from the App Store. Then, for an unknown reason, I opened iMovie and it looked like it would work.
I thought I could use Time Machine to get back all my movies and so I used it.
Now, when I´m asked which iMovie-Library I want to import and I select the only one I have I´m getting the following error-message: (translated with google):
"The operation could not be completed. One or more projects or events have been created with a newer version of iMovie. These projects and events are ignored."
After that iMovie shuts down. Now I know that I should have done it first with Time Machine. But it´s too late...
I can select "New" but then I have no possibility to get my movies and projects back...
Does anybody here know how to fix the problem?
    Thanks,
    Melanie

    I'm a bit confused -
You redownload iMovie 10.0.3 from the App store and then later tried recovering 10.0.2 from Time Machine but both give the same error message - is that correct?
The message doesn't make sense when you are using iMovie 10.0.3 since its the latest version.
Your library was last updated under 10.0.3 but you have now replaced it with a Time Machine backup which was created under 10.0.2 - correct?
What happens if you try to launch iMovie by double-clicking on your library - same error message?
iMovie 10.0.3 must work with a library created with iMovie 10.0.2 otherwise no-one would have been able to open any library after updating to 10.0.3.   The other way round might not work - though I'd be surprised - the changes in iMovie were quite minor.
Have tried deleting the iMovie preference file and rebooting?
    Geoff.

  • Photosmart C6280 won't print after trying to clear library/startupitems error

I have had a Library/Startupitems error ever since updating my HP software a couple of years ago.  In trying to finally resolve this issue myself, the HP website suggested removing and reinstalling the software.  There is no active link within the HP support pages for a download.  I found a C6200 series driver online, which I've installed, but now I cannot print anything but a test page, and I still have the Library/Startupitems error.  As it is, I cannot even find that file at all to fix the error.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi @Eric_V67
Since the C6280 doesn't have full feature software and drivers, I can't image the error is stemming from the printer. I can however, provide you with instructions to remove ALL HP software including the HP driver that was provided from the apple software update.
If I understand one of your previous messages, it looks like perhaps you had this printer installed previously and then upgraded the Mac OS. If this is the case, then old software that was previously compatible could be the root cause.
Once the HP software and drivers are removed, you can restart the computer and see if the error persists. The final step would then to be reinstall the Apple software update.
Follow the instructions below. I apologize in advanced this is not a fun task! I will try to make it easy to follow. Some of the files described in the following steps may not be found, if you can't find one of the files or folders on your computer, don't be alarmed.
Move the files and/or folders to the trash, drag and drop
    Macintosh HD/Applications//Hewlett-Packard folder
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/ - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
In Macintosh HD/Library/Caches - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
Macintosh HD/Library/Documentation/Help/ - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
    Macintosh HD/Library/Frameworks/HPServicesInterface.framework
    Macintosh HD/Library/Frameworks/HPSmartX.framework
    Macintosh HD/Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources/HP Scan Pro
In Macintosh HD/Library/Image Capture/Scripts - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
In Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences - delete all files and folders regarding HP/Hewlett Packard
Move Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist to the desktop. NOTE: Not removing the file loginwindow.plist during the manual uninstall could cause the uninstall to be unsuccessful.
In Macintosh HD/Library/Printer/hp - delete folder
In Macintosh HD/Library/StartupItems, drag the following folders to the trash, HP IO and HP Trap Monitor
In Macintosh HD/Users/USERNAME (this should have a symbol of a house next to it)/Library/Preferences, drag the following folders to the trash: *Any files beginning with com.apple.print, *Any files beginning with com.hp, *Any files beginning with Hewlett-Packard, *Any files beginning with HP or hp
In MacintoshHD/Users/USERNAME/Library/Printers, drag any All-in-One printers listed here into the trash.
Drag the HP icons from the Dock and drop it on an empty space on the desktop. The icon will disappear.
    Close all open windows.
Restart the computer. - The startup error may be gone now.
    Empty the Trash.
If the error is indeed gone, download and install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X and you should now be able to print and the start up error should cease to exist. If the error is still present, proceed to the next set of steps.
Remove the print driver and other software from a computer.
From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD  icon.
    Double-click the Library folder.
    Double-click the Printers folder.
Right-click the HP folder, and then select Move to Trash.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK. Wait for authentication to complete.
    Double-click the PPDs  folder.
    Double-click the Contents  folder.
    Double-click the Resources  folder.
Locate your printer in the printer list, and then right-click on your printer and select Move to Trash.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK. Wait for authentication to complete.
Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty  button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
NOTEBy clicking OK, all items in your trash will be permanently deleted from your computer. To delete one item in the trash, click that item to highlight it, and then click OK.
On the upper-left corner of the computer desktop, click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences on the drop-down menu.
    Double-click Print & Scan.
In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button to delete it.
Restart the computer and now you have a fresh start. - The start up error should be gone now (If the error is gone now, there is no need to proceed to the repair Disk Permissions step, instead simply download the HP Printer Drivers for OS X.
After logging in, Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click  Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer .
Restart the computer - At this point you should no longer see the startup error
Download and install the HP Printer Drivers for OS X, once the install is successful we can then delete the loginwindow.plist from the desktop.
If by chance you still see the error please post a screenshot of it so I can continue to work with you towards a complete solution!!

  • Why isn't iTunes finding my old library?

I actually had to get a new hard drive for my Studio XPS 15z (it has Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium) and I put all of my old data onto my new hard drive (so I copied my music folder with the Itunes sub-folder in it). But when I installed Itunes 10.6.1 it didn't do the usual thing and automatically find my old old library. I reinstalled Itunes and I also tried to import the "Itunes Library.itl playlist", but there was an error that said it could not be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file...
I have a ton of apps and I already had to recently reorganize everything on my iPod because of the iTunes 10.6 error.
Could someone please help me? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Close iTunes.
Hold the <SHIFT> button while launching iTunes.
It will prompt to create a new library or choose and existing library.  Select the option to choose the library and direct iTunes to the location of the correct iTunesLibrary.itl file.

  • Import old Library to the last version of Apperture

    Hello
I have a trouble about import old library. I have one done in a version 3.0... and I would like to import it to the Aperture last version. I obtain only an error message that I have to update the library before to import. How can I do to be able to import it without to reinstall an old version in my actual Mac.
    Thanks for your help
    Philippe

What is the message like, that you see? Do you see the message below? That is not an error message, just an information that your library is outdated.
If it is this message, then press the "quit" button and do first a "rebuild library", to ensure that your Aperture library does not have any inconsistencies that might cause problems.
Hold down the "⌥⌘"-key combination (press firmly) and double click the Aperture Library to launch Aperture into the "First Aid" mode. Select "Rebuild Database" from the "First Aid" panel.
Now Aperture should upgrade and rebuild the Library in one go - that may take a while for a large Library - do not get impatient and force quit Aperture, unless you do not see any progress at all for hours.
If you see a different message, and Aperture crashes or does not launch at all, please explain what you see exactly and post the full error message.
    Regards
    Léonie
