Recover Pages File Sent as Attachment

Here's my dilemma:
My mother emailed a document to me that was written and saved in Pages on her iPad. I received the email, opened it on my Macbook, saved it and even edited it, but now when I open it there is nothing there. This email was sent to me back in Feb of last year.
I have opened every version of the document I can find on my computer and all there is is instructions for using Pages as there would be when you open a blank document in Pages -- no text from the document. I then went back to the original attachment and redownloaded it. Still the same thing: nothing but Pages instructions, no text.
I even went to the Time machine and restored the document from the time that I orginally downloaded it and still nothing, just the blank Pages document with instructions.
I should also add that the document is blank on my mother's computer, too.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I forgot to say that I tested under lion.
I wrote "it seems" because it works if I zip my Pages application so that it can't work but I don't know if it's the fact to install iWork which installed a QuickLook plugin.

Thanks to Pacifist I looked in the iWork '09 Trial installer and saw that iWork.qlgenerator is installed by this application.
As I already wrote, after 30 days, the iWork trial become a reader.
The QuickLook plugin installed by the trial will remain active too.
As iWork '09 was delivered years ago contains a resource related to Tiger, I guess that QuickLook was able to display the do's contents in this system.
I don't know if the ability to do that with Preview was available in Snow Leopard.
Maybe it's one of the Lion’s enhancements.
At this time I'm too busy to re-boot with my Snow Leopard HD.
I will do that when the work in progress will be achieved (maybe tomorrow).

Problem in opening an image file sent as attachment in mail

I have a requirement of sending a image file (.jpg) through email attachment.
I am getting the attachment using the function module 'SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1'.

I have syncronized my iPad with my macbook pro. When my apps had been erased from it to then put the new versions in it a window has told me to enter the itunes clue. I have written it and another window has appeared telling me that five computers were already using this account and that I had to make one of these to not use it. The thing is that I have only two computers using this account and that now I don't know what to do because I had some important pages files in the iPad and I don't know how to do it to not lose them. Do you know what could I do?

Error while opening Excel file sent through attachment in email in sap

Hi All,
I have implemented sending email with excel attachment in SAP.
Email is sent successfully with attachment but when i tried to open it i get first error dialog like " file is not in recognizable format" but after that if i click ok then file gets opened correctly.

I cannot open Pages files

After upgrading to Pages 5, I cannot open Pages files sent to me by other people. It does not matter whether they were created in Pages 08, or Pages 5; if they were created on another computer, I cannot open them. Any thoughts?
(I use a MacBook Air, OSX 10.9.2 and Pages 5.1)

The Pages 5 fiile format uses a complex zipped package that is not understood by anyone outside of the Apple employees responsible for it.
This creates problems when they are transfered by anything other than iCloud or Apple's server software.
Pages 5.1 is the particular culprit. Astonishingly the point release is incompatible with Pages 5 and 5.01 files. Something that does not bode well for the future as Apple very, very slowly tries to dig its way out of the hole it has made for its users with the New Pages, Numbers and Keynote.
The increasing number of Pages 5.1 users who are reporting they can not open Pages 5.1 files with Pages 5.1 is eliciting no visible response from Apple. Certainly no warning to its users to avoid the fatal consequences of using its software.
Since all Pages file formats are essentially incompatible and proprietary, with virtually every other system out there, it is actually an improvement using Pages '09 because it is a settled format and parsable to a certain degree where the Pages 5 file format is obviously not.
Pages '09 works, so why not use it where Pages 5 does not?
If the whole change is disturbing you, as it should, then it would be wise to seek an entirely different solution. We are recommending looking at LibreOffice [free] which is maturing nicely, is available on all leading paltforms and uses open, parseable formats with a degree of confidence totally absent for Pages.

Pages files crashing/error message

I've been having trouble today with certain files crashing within a few seconds after being opened. I get an error message, one I've never seen before, saying that Pages quit while using the SF word processing plug-in. Curiously, all of the files that crash are in one folder, of 10 to 15 I've randomly tested from various folders, only about 5 or 6 from this one folder are affected. In other words, this is not a universal problem with all Pages documents. Of course, these would be important business-related files! I can recreate them and am experimenting with strategies like downloading an attachment on which one of the files was based, mailing to a different email address, using a thumb drive to transfer and open it on a different computer, then transferring it back, to see if the problem recurs. I started having this problem just after doing a software upgrade on March 23. This may just have been a coincidence. Does anyone know what's going on and how to solve it?

My OS is 10.6.7. As for the update, it was whatever popped up automatically when I first used the computer this morning.
I've been experimenting since the first post. I thought I had a workaround. I created a new Pages file using an attachment of a source document. I opened the attachment and created the Pages file on my MacBook, then exported the document as a Word file, emailed it to myself from one email address to another, and opened it on the desktop. I opened it first as a Word document, then did a copy and paste to create a Pages document. It didn't immediately crash, but after I had worked on it, closed it, and reopened it, it crashed within a couple of seconds—closing both the document and the application. This is still only happening to selected files. I have opened, closed, and reopened several others but had no problems.

How can I save a PDF file or word file sent to me as an attachment directly to my iPhone 5s so if I want to read it I don't have to dig into my ail every time?

You will need to select the attachment and open in another app. If you do not have any apps that support PDF, Adobe reader for iOS is free.
For MS word files, you will need an app that supports those, like Documents to Go.
There is not generic file storage area in iOS, so you need to "open in" an app that supports that file type so that app can then add the file to its sandboxed local storage area.
If you need to markup the PDF, some good apps are GoodReader, iAnnotate, PDF Expert, GoodNotes - there are numerous others as well in the App Store.

I have a requirement where in CPO has to read a text file sent as an attachment from portal (cisco prime service catalog), Is there a way to query RCdatabase to fetch Document ID and retrive the file and read the file. If this approach is not feasible, is there an alternate way to host the text file in an external location and pulled from there?

How do I convert a document to a PDF file? I have four scanned pages I have to attach to an email.

How do I email four scanned pages of text, no pictures, as an attachment, I scanned the pages to my documents, attached them to the email but my server rejected the email.

When you scan, it chooses the highest image quality which results in large files, when you tried to send those large files via email, you were rejected by your mail server for exceeding the file attachment size limit.
If you want to send original high quality scans, you need to use a service like DropBox or something to upload your files too, your ISP restricts upload speed to a fraction of your download speed on purpose, so it will be slower uploading large files.
However if the other party is just going to view them, then a lower quality universal format like PDF will do nicely.
You can import your present images into the free LibreOffice suite (drawing) and create PDF's from that, add test or marks etc.
However to clean up scanned graphic files you need a program for that specifically, perhaps the free GIMP will get you by enough without having purchase a graphics editor program

How to attach a Pages file?

My Pages file is greyed out, not only when I try to send it as an attachment with a Yahoo! account, but also when I try to upload it to MobileMe. I have tried to compress the file, but when I select the file in the Finder, the "compress" option is greyed out. I have checked my user settings and I do have "read and write" permission for this file.
I know how to send the file as a .pdf. But I need to send it someone who can open it in Pages and edit it.

When I select my document with a .pages extension in Finder, then click on File, the word "compress" is greyed out. Is there something I need to do when I save the file to make it possible for me to compress it? The only suggestion I can find in Help is to check that I have authority to read and write the file. I have confirmed this by clicking "Get Info" and "Sharing."
What else can I try? My secretary is able to compress these files with no problem, but I can't make changes and send them back to her.

After upgrading the OS to 10.6.8, my Skype clashes when open and iMail crashes when trying to attach Pages File !?? What happen?

I just updated my mac book pro to OS 10.6.8 and now my skype crashes after launching and iMail crashes after trying to attached Pages file.
The OS is very unstable !!! what happen ! this is first time i am experiencing this...so sad

I don't think it's that straightforward...
Pages now stores a document in a package (a folder that looks like a file). Mail clients will either allow you to attach the package, but read it as a folder and send the individual files within the package to the email server, breaking the structure, or they will attach only the folder itself (no contents).
For browser-based email clients, like gmail, they don't normally have permission to read the contents of a folder you select so can't upload them. So, they upload just an empty folder. This will affect browser-based mail services generally including Yahoo, etc.
So, in terms of a fix, this will need either security changes in browsers per se, OS X to convert the package to a file on the fly when it is read by certain apps, the format changed back to a single file or some such other approach.
