Recover the OEM Windows Key

Hi there, A couple of months ago my Toshiba laptop fell and the HDD got damaged, so I had to replace it  I would like to activate a legitimate copy of W8 again, but I don't have the OEM activation key for that. Is there any way I can get it? :/ Thank you in advance.

Satellite C45-ASP4311FL (PSCD2P-014LM2)
Downloads here.
The product key for Windows 8 (not 8.1) is burned into the motherboard. So Windows 8 will self-activate when installed.
But you would need to install essentially all of the many drivers and utilities at the site above for the laptop to work as designed. And the order of installation matters.
I don't have the time or inclination to mess around with that. Better to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly installed.
If you failed to create recovery media, obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here
See the instructions in the section Restoring from recovery media, which begins on p. 56 of the User's Guide.

    Hi!
From what I can understand, this is in a bit of a "gray zone", showing the key isn't illegal, but if you plan on using it again, when doing a re-install of the system it isn't allowed, or use it on another computer for that matter,
In these cases, you should use the recovery media that is shipped with your computer or download it from the manufacturer.
    The OEM
recovery media should match the product version originally preinstalled on the system; no other image may be used to restore the system to its original
    state.
I would contact MS and see what they are saying, depending
on what you need the key for of course:

  • How can I use the MS Windows Key in Linux

    Hello!
I'm using KDE 4.3 and want to use the MS Windows Key to open the KDE start menu.
I tried to add the Windows Key by pressing as a "KDE Application Launcher" hotkey, but the window key wasn't accepted as a hotkey.
Is it possible to add this key as a hotkey?
    Thanks for help!
    Best regards,
    Flasher

I have the following line in my .xinitrc:
    /usr/bin/xmodmap -e "keycode 133 = F30" &
...where keycode 133 is my win key. I assign it to F30 (it can be any number besides 1-12, I guess), and then it's just a matter of configuring escape key (in your case, it'll be kde start menu) to F30.

  • Recover the lost windows password

    Hi there!
Just few week before someone requested me for reseting/recovering windows xp lost password.
    Here are the few step!
Here'an easy way to crack any password on XP...
The only thing you need is a XP Pro CD and a valid Serial#
1.Boot off the CD and do a Repair (not from the recovery console)
2.Setup will copy all the dll's... then your pc will restart and start the next step of the repair(were it give's you all bunch of info about XP)
3.On the left side of your screen you'll see the progress bar
    4. As soon as you see "Installing Devices" press Shift+F10
5.This will open a command prompt.
6.from the command prompt, type nusrmgr.cpl
7.This command will open the user profile were you can reset any password (including the administrators)
8.After you reseted the password, simply close the user profile window and the command prompt and let the setup finish the install.
9.That's it, as soon as the install is done your password will be reseted and you'll have access to everything.
    cheers!

thanks dude..for your help..  and correcting my Grammer...

Step by step instructions on recovering password with a Windows installation Disk.
    1. Insert your Windows operating system CD into your CD drive and start your computer. Make sure that the Drive you selected is the bootable drive.
    2. Usually your computer will state on the screen that it will now boot from the CD or that you will have to press a specific key to boot from the CD. Select the key to boot from the CD.
    3. Now that the computer is booting from the CD, you will see an initial set up screen that says the computer is loading files
    4. After the computer loads some files, a welcome screen will pop up, follow the prompts and press enter to set up Windows.
    5. The next prompt will be the licensing agreement; press accept.
    6. Once you have accepted the licensing agreement, a set up screen will popup that will give you the option to do a repair. Select the repair option.
    7. The repair option should start running immediately and might take a few minutes to check your disks, files, etc.
    8. Once the computer has copied files and scanned your computer it will ask you to reboot your computer or it will automatically reboot your computer. You might see a message that your computer will reboot in 10 seconds.
    9. When the computer reboots, do not press any keys. The computer will automatically reboot and you will see the Windows screen and you will see the message Installing Windows.
    10. It is important to keep your eyes on the lower left corner of the screen. You will see a message pop up. It will state "Installing Devices". When you see this progress bar, immediately press "Shift + F10"
    11. When you press Shift + F10 a command console will pop up giving you access to many system functions.
    12. At the prompt enter the following: NUSRMGR.CPL and press enter. This input will give you access to your graphical access of your user accounts in your control panel.
    13. Since you have forgotten your password, you can choose the account that you need to change or remove the password from. If you want to remove your password so that you no longer have to enter it when logging in, you can enter the following at the command
prompt: "control userpasswords2". Once you have made the changes, close the window and close the command console. You can now continue with the repair.
    14. Your computer will continue with the repair and ask you for your product ID, enter your product ID. Once your operating system starts up, you will be able to access all your user account with either the new password you created or no password at all. It
is important to note that this strategy does not damage any of your files or settings. All of your files and settings should be intact.

  • Installing OEM Windows 8.1 on a new SSD

How do I install the OEM Windows 8.1 OS that shipped with my new desktop PC on a new SSD? I have created the HP recovery discs but I can not find instructions for using them to install Windows on a new drive. There are numerous posts about doing this on this forum but none with a consensus. It goes from 'it can't be done", "you need third party disc software" to "yes, it's easily done" followed by links to existing HP tutorials that don't actually address the procedure. The one that comes the closest is this one: HP PCs - Recovering your computer from a USB flash drive I scroll down to Desktop computer (Windows 8) and under that Recovery from a USB flash drive (Windows 8).Those instructions seem like they might work but I have Discs not a USB drive and I'm not permitted to make a second one.So my question is will the discs work the same way as the Flash drive? And my next question is, will these instructions work without resulting in a disk size error? The SSD is a Samsung 850 Pro 256GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD The PC shipped with a 2 TB Seagate Hard Drive. HP Envy 700-430qe
    Windows 8.1 x64
    i7-4790CPU@ 3.60Mhz
    GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 660
    PSU: Corsair GS700
    RAM: 12.0 GB

Hi: See if this works... 1. You have to change two settings in the BIOS in order to boot from a DVD. See the info at the link below for what settings to change. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03659945 2. Put disk 1 in the dvd drive and restart the PC. Tap the esc key to get a menu options list. Select the F9 boot options menu from the list. Select the DVD drive and hit the enter key. Watch the screen for further instructions. Here are some problems that may occur based on specific circumstances... 1.  If the SSD you bought is much smaller than the factory hard drive you removed, you may get an error that states in substance that the disks won't work on a smaller hard drive. 2.  If you made any hardware changes to the PC such as changing the graphics card, the recovery disks may not work.  This should not be applicable if you added memory or the fact that you just added a SSD (other than #1 above). If the recovery disks you made don't work, see if making a plain W8.1 installation disk by following the instructions from the link below allows you to install W8.1.  Hopefully this media will work with the W8.1 OEM product key encrypted in your PC's BIOS. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

  • New motherboard can i reuse my OEM product key

is it possible to use the windows 7 product key from my PC that came with the old motherboard on a new motherboard that i have right now and then use my upgrade key that i used earlier on the other motherboard to upgrade to windows 8 again with the same
key? or would i have to buy a new windows 7 key and then use the upgrade key to get 8 again or.. would i just have to buy a whole new windows 8 key... i don't exactly make the largest amount of money i just got a new motherboard and CPU for my birthday i have
the same harddrive same everything else except the mobo and cpu

    Hi,
    I agree with britishdhez.
In addition, normally the OEM Windows license is tied to the motherboard. It could not work with new motherboard.
Meanwhile, you can post to Windows 7 Genuine Advantage forum to get more insights.
    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=genuinewindows7
Or, you’d better to contact the laptop manufacturer directly to consult the issue. In this way, your issue can be fixed efficiently.
    Hope it helps.

  • Can I install Linux and then use the original Windows 8 OEM product key for a virtual machine on the same computer?

I have ordered a new laptop and expect to receive it in 2-3 weeks.  The laptop comes with an OEM version of Windows 8 installed.  I wish
to install Linux as the host operating system and create a virtual machine running Windows 8.  Can I legally use the product key from the OEM installation to activate a virtual machine that will only be used on the laptop that had the original OEM installation?
If so, what is the procedure to activate the copy installed on the virtual machine?
This question has been addressed for Windows 7, but my searches did not reveal this question posed for Windows 8.

Technically, no.  The OEM is licensed only for the physical hardware on the system.  It isn't licensed for virtual hardware.
You may find you're unable to activate your OEM license in the VM.  A lot of OEM Windows look for specific hardware to verify they're being installed on the correct hardware.
    Although here: http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/Pages/support-faq.aspx#fbid=Zh0SiBdas5I
    Q. Can I install OEM on a virtual machine (VMware)?
    A. You may install OEM in a virtual environment as long as you have a separate license for each instance of the software. It is fine to use the OEM version as long as it is properly licensed. To be clear, a separate version of software must be installed
for both the “standard” and “virtual” installations.
You still may not be able to activate if there is a hardware block.
The best place to ask this is to Microsoft licensing, any response you get here, including mine, won't hold up since it's not an official answer.

  • Tried installing Windows Vista, cancelled install and now it won't boot from the OEM Vista DVD, all i get is BOOTMGR is missing error... Ctrl Alt Del to restart and when i turn the computer on i get a blank screen and pressing C is not working to boot....

    Topic says it all...
My friend started a installation of Windows Vista, but pulled out after deleting all partitions...
So now i power it on, get a blank screen (seems a bit gray because of backlighting, should show the apple logo right?)...
Then after like 15-20sec it will throw out a:
    BOOTMGR is missing
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
I have a OEM Windows Vista DVD in the drive, and i know... Windows 7 is better... but i'm not that fond of stealing software from Microsoft and i have 10 licenses for Vista...
I have tried pressing C while booting up but it doesn't work...
Does anyone here have a magic soloution for me, and no i will not install MacOS on it !!!

Deleting Boot Camp partitions the conventional way will not work . You must use the Boot Camp Assistant to remove a Boot Camp partition. Here is a link to the guide.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf
The way to restart is to hold down the option/alt key during startup* and then selecting the Mac OS. If you have a valid Boot Camp install of Windows it would show up during this type of start up.
    * hold down immediately after pressing the power button and until the OS choice screen appears.
    To summarize.
1 Use the above method to boot into Mac OS.
2 Download the instructions and read them.
3 Use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition.
4 Pick your friends more carefully.

Hi I just got out of this situation after two weeks of forums and have tried any kind of different solutions.
If you have no response using start-up keys and you can't choose your start-up disk when pressing "Option" here is what to do.
The problem in this situation is common to users that install Boot Camp and at one stage the installation fail, may be a bug in BootCamp or just our mistakes, it doesn't really matter here is the solution.....
If you can start Windows, or Start the installation dvd of Windows do it, when In windows you will need to install BootCamp windows Driver, if you try to use the Apple downloaded file, it will not work.
You need to find the zip file in internet I found it with Google.
When you have the file run a "cmd" window with Administrator privileges.
Navigate in the folder that you have decompressed and open the folder Drivers/Apple/ you will see the file BootCamp.msi or BootCamp64.msi, of course choose the one that correspond to your Windows System .... type the file name and hit enter .... the drivers will install .... but what we really want to be install is that little icon on the system tray (right bottom).
After we will restart windows that little icon will give you the chance to restart the computer in OS X.
If something during the BootCamp and Windows installation had corrupted your OS X installation, you will have to reinstall, but at least you will be able to do it now. ;-) It took me two weeks and lot of researches, it's an hour job. Have fun.

  • Windows 8.1 install won't accept OEM product key

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 RTM ISO from TechNet today and wanted to test it on a Thinkpad W530 I have here that has a Windows 8 Pro OEM licence.
When I mounted the ISO and ran the setup it's prompting for a product key. I'm confused because my understanding is the product key is stored in the UEFI bios and I was expecting the 8.1 setup to detect it. During the original Windows 8 installation it never
prompted for the product key and activated without issue.
I've checked my product keys on TechNet and I have 3 unclaimed keys for 8.1 that I assume would work but It'd be preferable for me to retain my OEM licence.
I used Magic Jellybean to obtain the OEM key but the 8.1 setup won't accept it and returns "That key can't be used to activate this edition of Windows. Please try a different key."
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
OEM activation is performed by associating the operating system to the firmware of the computer. This process occurs before the computer is sent to the customer so that the software is already activated and no additional actions are required by the user.
OEM activation remains valid as long as the customer uses the OEM-provided image on the computer.
So, if you want to clean install Windows 8.1, you need to input the Windows 8.1 install key to accomplish the Windows installation, after that you can try to activate your system by network or Phone. Meanwhile, I want to know did you got any Windows 8.1
product key when you download Windows 8.1 from TechNet? If so, you can try to use them when you install Windows 8.1.
