Recover Windows 8 activation code with a crashed drive

I have checked the other posts but I can't find this issue.  My friend has an HP 2000 (no other numbers or serial numbers anywhere.)  Her drive crashed and burned.  It won't work in any computer or my docking station.  It just clicks for a while and then stops and then starts up again.  Needles to say, I can't get it to boot so activation code recovery programs are not an option.
I bought a new drive for her and installed it and then I managed to get a Dell OEM Windows 8 disc but obviously I can't get anywhere without the activation code.  I tried reading the bar code on the keyboard but my phone won't recognize it.  Is there any way of getting the activation code for this comptuer?  I even looked under the battery but there is no code anywhere.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You can usually order Recovery Media from the support page of each model (US/CA) in the drivers/software list- but you need more than HP 2000 to find the correct page. There should be a Product number, Serial number etc printed somewhere- usually under the battery but you have indicated nothing is found there? Check in BIOS, on the first page, for Product Number & Serial number.
Once you have the info,  use the button at top of this page titled "Support", then click "Download drivers" from the menu. Enter your Product Number. After entering PN click 'Go". On the next page use the dropdown menu to select your Operating System, click Next. A list will populate with drivers/software.Scroll down the list to see option to order Recovery Media.
You can also phone HP to order-but you will need Serial number. If you are in US or Canada:

  • CS4 activation code with new hard drive

Has anyone installed a new hard drive on a mac and then had to re-enter the activation code?  I can open any of the apps, but it gives me an error message that I need to enter the activation code or open another app since it was installed as a suite, but none of the apps give me the boxes to enter the code, and the error message comes up too quickly to enter help or preferences.  Adobe online no longer supports CS4 via chat.

Meridianmatt it sounds like you are facing additional difficulties in addition to a possible activation error.  Did you copy/migrate/transfer the Adobe Creative Suite 4 applications to the new hard drive or did you install the software directly?

  • I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space, and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run t media from an external hard drive? If so, how do I transfer my files?

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

  • Need to reinstall windows on T430 with a wipes drive

I am looking to purchase a T430 that orginally had windows 8 installed. However the drive has been wiped. Does Lenove sell recovery/installation  disks? From searching here it looks like the key is stored in the bios. Can I use any set of windows 8 install disk with that key?
    Solved!

    Hello.
Yes you can order a full set of recovery disks from Lenovo, just give them a call for pricing etc.
    Lenovo Support Phone List
Or you can use a Windows 8 Pro retail DVD (USB) if you have one at hand. You can see on the Windows 8 sticker on the bottom of the machine if your machine has a Windows 8 Core or Windows 8 Pro licence, but with the Pro DVD, it will detect your key in BIOS and install the correct version for you. It's the method I most often use myself.

  • How to recover windows data on an external hard drive formatted in time capsule

    Hi there,
    In desperate of some help.
I took a windows external hard which had data on it from a windows pc.
Plugged it into my Mac pro 13 and opened Time Machine. Time Machine then mentioned something along the lines of "erase - partion - cannot backup unless erase". It was not in that context but those words and phrases were mentioned. So without thinking i clicked erase.
What happened next was a newly formatted external hard for time machine back up appeared. It actually changed names from "untitled" to "Time Machine Back ups"
Apparently what i now need to do is:
Step 1) Format hard drive back to NTFS
Step 2) Recover the data that was on the hard drive.
What i tried to do is i downloaded software called StellarPhoenixMacDataRecovery and did an advance scan which took about 5 hours. The only info it recovered was what seemed to be system files from the new format. Approx 20mb in size. The data i lost was approx 100gb in size.
Please tell me there is a way to achieve step one and two without having a PHD in computer science and programming or parting ways with my hard earned cash?
    Much appreciated

    Hi Loner,
    Thanks for the reply.
I have located the program and will give it a try.
    Cheers.

  • Recovering Windows 8.1 to a new drive

I have an HP Probook 470 G2. The original disk is fine but I would like to migrate to an SSD. I have made a recovery USB and replaced the HD with a 120GB SSD. This is plenty less than the size of the windows partition on the original disk so I can't see a problem with that. Having swapped the disks and booted off the USB, I choose 'reset windows' and everything seems to go well up to 74% when I get "there was a problem resetting your PC", with a restart option. I found a thread here here where there are similar symptoms but because I am using a new disk I don't think I can replace the disk amidst the restart. I've seen a few YouTube videos which show an HP Recovery Manager either in Windows itself (which I don't have), or in the screens following the F11 press, and I don't get that either.  I get Troubleshoot, and Restart. Choosing Troubleshoot, I get Refresh (doesn't work, as the disk is blank), Refresh (gets to 74% as I've said), and Advanced. Advanced leads to System Restore, System Image Recovery, Start Up Repair, Command Prompt, or UEFI Firmware settings.  As I said there was no HP Recovery in Windows itself, I used a Windows procedure, but it did refer to the HP Recovery Drive in the midst of construction so I assumed it had built itself ok. This is driving me nuts now, it shouldn't be this hard to migrate to a better disk, but I haven't found a conclusive answer via Google or HP pages hence my post here. Any ideas? My position of strength is that I still have the original HDD intact so I haven't burnt any bridges.

Thank you for the reply, that gives me some help with the cause of the problem. Given the fact that installation media is not supplied, it seems a bit unreasonable of MS and/or HP to make it so difficult to migrate to a smaller disk. This cannot be an unusual activity, given how cheap SSD's are now. Is there a way I can do this at all? I have a couple of ideas:a) get hold of some installation media. I'm not sure how the installation key would work with that, although I did see a page somewhere with a method of extracting a key from the BIOS. b) If I resize the Windows partition on the original disk and leave some space unallocated, and then make a new recovery USB, would that then install cleanly onto the new disk? I'd be grateful for any thoughts on these proposals or any alternatives for running windows from an SSD here.

  • Install Windows on iMac with no DVD drive

I have a modified iMac.  It has a solid state drive in leui of the superdrive.   The SSD is a OWC drive.
How can I install Windows?   I have tried modifying plist files, and kexts to allow me to use my MBA's USB superdrive, with no luck.    I have also modified the bootcamp assistant to allow me to create a Windows 7 USB Installer from an ISO.   However, when I initiate the installation, the computer restarts, and I get an error "No bootable device -- insert boot disc and press any key"  I get this even though I created an installer with the BC assistant.  I've tried doing this with thumb drives and external USB drives.
Can anybody help me out with a method of getting Windows installed?  My computer is a 27" 2011 iMac.  I cannot put the DVD drive back in because not only was it broken, but also because I then wouldn't be able to install Windows on the SSD.
    Thanks.

You might have better li=uck of an answer if you post over in the Boot Camp forum where the Windows gurus hang out.

  • Recover Windows XP Home with Microsoft XP CD

The OS XP Home Edition on a Toshiba Satelite Laptop broke down with very important datas. I try to recover the system with an original XP Professional CD to safe the datas. During the process an administrator password is requested but I do not know wether this is the usual login password or something else.
Can you please tell me which password I need
or do you know any better way to safe my important datas?
    Thank you!

he does not have to recover, he has to REPAIR,
if you have the XP RETAIL version not the one that comes with Toshiba...
you have to pretend you'll intall XP
the process ask for the destination drive you say option 1 C:
the process will tell you there's an XP already installed and will give you the option to press *R to repair* the system
(Be carefull if you press enter instead of R the system will install a new OS scratching anything on the HDD)
when I did this before I have not been asked for any admin password.

  • Terrible sound for new Windows 7 Computer with Realtek HD driver.

I just recently purchased a new HP Pavilion 6230 and it has terrible sound with Windows 7 64 bit. I unistalled the realtek driver and installed realtek's latest driver and to no avail, the sound did not improve. I have searched the internet all over for a solution but there doesn't appear to be one. I believe realtek better take a look at this, or their going to have a nasty backlash on their hands from thousands of consumers, not to mention the manufacturers of the computers which put in the realtek products in the first place.

I had a similar problem with my Slimline s5330la with Win7.  It started as soon as I took it out of the box.  Any media file sounds distorted with a very annoying intermitent "buzz".  Updating the BIOS (to V5.07) and reinstalling the Realtek HD Audio driver didn't help.  HP support changed the machine (it was 2 days old) and sent me a brand new one........with the SAME problem!!!!!!  I just installed it and it has the same distortion.  I've been on the phone with HP support and they have no clue on what is happening.
I suspected that it was not a "sound" problem since when a song is being played with the HP MediaSmart program and the title of the song appears on the screen, the name of the song "jumps" and "freezes" at the same time as the distortion appears as if the machine got some kind of interference.
After checking the latency of my PC with "DCP Latency Checker" (www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml) I realized that the problem was not the sound driver but the wireless driver.
Disabiling the 802.11n Wireless PCI Express Card Lan Adapter "corrects" the problem.  This was not a solution given what without that driver you are off-line! However, at least it is more clear what the problem was.
I had version 3.0.1.0 (19/05/2009) of the driver by Ralink Technology.
HP has no updated driver for that component on their website but I found newer driver on RALINKTECH web.
I downloaded the 3.1.0.0 version from www.ralinktech.com.   Installed it and the problem was solved.
    Good luck.

  • Recover RAID 5 array with new root drive

Ok, I have a root mirror and a 4 drive RAID 5 array on an E250. The linker got hosed on the root partition and mount fails as a result. I've tried repairing the linker to no avail. So I replaced c0t0d0 with a brand new drive and put a fresh install on it. The second half of the mirror is still there and can be mounted now. The question is how to I restore the RAID 5 array to get to that data without losing data on the RAID 5 array ?

  • GX660 Windows 7 activation code

I just bought this computer. Usually there's a sticker on the bottom of a laptop with the Windows activation code, but there's no sticker in this computer. Why? Can I use the actiation code visible in the Control Panel if I want to reinstall Windows. I'm a little suspicious about that code because it does not look like it's has the right form. For example it has the word OEM in it... Looks funny.

You can't use the code that appears in control panel --> system. That's not the key you need.
Odd that there's no sticker on the bottom of the notebook. Are you sure it's not stuck to any of the information that came with the notebook?
There are ways of finding out the key if you need to. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/productkeysactivation/tp/topkeyfinder.htm
