Recover Windows XP Home with Microsoft XP CD

The OS XP Home Edition on a Toshiba Satelite Laptop broke down with very important datas. I try to recover the system with an original XP Professional CD to safe the datas. During the process an administrator password is requested but I do not know wether this is the usual login password or something else.
Can you please tell me which password I need
or do you know any better way to safe my important datas?
Thank you!

he does not have to recover, he has to REPAIR,
if you have the XP RETAIL version not the one that comes with Toshiba...
you have to pretend you'll intall XP
the process ask for the destination drive you say option 1 C:
the process will tell you there's an XP already installed and will give you the option to press *R to repair* the system
(Be carefull if you press enter instead of R the system will install a new OS scratching anything on the HDD)
when I did this before I have not been asked for any admin password.

  • Windows XP Home with SP2 QUESTION

I've been searching for the answer for the past 45 minutes and can't seem to find it on the net. I turn to you now - as I've had good luck having my questions answered on this forum.
    Here we go :
I've just ordered Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 from Amazon.com and would like to know how many PC's can I install it on simultaniously without running into any kind of problems. Someone told me that it's up to 2 separate computers that it can be installed on - I just wanted to make sure, since I want to use it on my MacBook and my girlfriends MacBook as well.
Thank you in advance for your time and help

you probably need to purchase an additional license, unless you don't plan to run windows update on one of the computers. if you go through with the whole registration, microsoft will probably disable one of the computer's key, at which point I think windows will stop working after 30 days.

  • Can I use Windows XP Home with Boot Camp and/or Parallels or VMFusion?

I am planning on purchasing a new Mac Mini with Snow Leopard. I have a copy of Windows XP Home Edition that came with a 7 year old Compac computer, can it be used with either Boot Camp and/or Parallels or VMFusion? I REALLY don't want to purchase Windows if I can help it. Thanks!

Read the boot camp requirements. I believe you will need a Windows disc that is stand alone. By that I mean a Windows disc that is not designed for a specific computer like your Compac. I believe that applies for Parallels and Fusion as well. Some of the newer disc that come with new computers may work since some of them are stand alone. I think your compac disc maybe married to your computer. You can try it when you get your Mac but it may not work.

  • Can't Create or Organise Folders on Windows XP Home with a Zen Sleek (2

Any idea why my home computer, which has Windows XP home version, won't give me the option of creating new folders or dragging/dropping files in and out of folders when I open the Zen Sleek dri've on 'My Computer'? And yet on my daytime computer (with XP Pro) it's as easy as anything to open new folders, drag and drop, etc. I, perhaps foolishly, installed all the extra software at home that came with my Creative Zen Sleek thinking this would surely solve the problem, thinking surely somewhere in all that stuff I would find a programme allowing me to open folders and re-organise my files....but no. The screens just remain sort of 'frozen', not allowing such basic functions. Please -- any clues as to the way forward here? Many thanks to the community for all the help on these boards!

Me again -- just looked at all my files in my Zen Sleek - none of the folders are there. Am I totally off base? Is the Zen system just something other entirely than folder based? Where does a newbie get up to speed? Many thanks.

  • Installing Windows XP Home with help of Boot Camp

I didn't find answer for my problem in FAQ, so i think that the best would be to ask here ...
I just bougth new Windows XP Home Edition installer CD (Service Pack 2 ofcourse). Downloaded Boot Camp, installed it, ect.
The problem is when i need to start the Windows Installer. I insert a CD, icon appear on descop, and i click in Boot Camp "Start Installation". Then i have something like this:
"The installer CD could not be found.
Insert your Windows CD and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized."
So i wait ... And nothing.
I made all updates what i needed. So what is the problem ? Is there any "special" Windows CD for Mac's ? Or i need some program to read this CD ?
PS: I'm using Boot Camp Beta v1.2

I have the same issue with an all English setup.
To rule out a bad CD (never mind, it's a brand new XP Pro) I burned two new CDs using the individual files that I had copied onto a harddrive first and a bootloader that I had extracted from the original CD. Yet, the result is the same.
Also, the Mac does recognize the CD (I can browse and view files on it)...just that error that the installer CD could not be found wouldn't go away.

Onedrive does not have any connection to Office 365. They are completely independent of one another.
Office 365 has no use of Microsoft Accounts (other than when sharing with people who are not in your tenant)

I have a customer that has boughta new team member a laptop with Windows 8.1 on it.The customer uses a shared One Drive Account across all of the teams machines to share data between them. All the other machines are using windows 7 professional with the One Drive desktop app installed, allowing them to do that. On the windows 8.1 laptop though, they are forced to sign into the laptop with a the Microsoft account to access OneDrive on that machine, due to it being integrated with the OS. This however, has caused issues because the team member then has access to everything under that Microsoft account and not just access to the one drive which is all the other team members have access to. I haven't found a way around that but if you happen to know one, please let me know.Anyway, now the customer wants to add office 365 to the laptop using...

  • ActiveX component could not be created in Windows 7 64bits, with Microsoft Office 2010 Sp132 bits

    Good day to everyone:
We are experiencing an issue during the installation of a software for one of our clients. The software is EVSpc 5.0 builded in 32 bits version and provided by the MassHealth department for insurance verifications purposes.
The operative system in most machines is Windows 7 Professional 64 bits (which has C:\Program Files AND C:\Program Files (x86)), the Microsoft Office is 2010 SP1 32 bits. All office applications work perfectly in the system.
We run the installation of the software as the local Administrator (just as the installation instructions manual refers) and the installation it is completed. Then according the manual we have to refer the ODBC data sources to select the Microsoft Access
Driver (*.mdb) and the route of the database file (Access file) in the server. Finally we run the registration file to perform modifications in the registry. This is the registry file instruccions:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.0
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\EVS]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\EVS\EVS]
    "EquipmentID"="PCX33333"
    "InstallPath"="C:\\Program Files \\EVSpc50\\"
When we tried to use the software this error message pops up:
"ActiveX component can't create object Exception in callAIMLoginService Error Handle Error Number=429 Error on LastDllError=0 Error HelpContext=1000429"
We have tried different suggestions found on Internet. Repairing the Office suite, Change the permission for the regedit file, register manually the dao360.dll, etc
We called the IT depaartment of MassHealth and the IT person in charge has left the job, and nobody knows why it isn't working.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Centro not sync-ing to Win XP Home with SP3

My brand new Palm Centro failed to sync to Palm Desktop running on Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3.  The Palm "getting started" help desk (very polite, and free) told me I could go back to Service Pack 2, or upgrade to Vista.  There's some kind of incompatibilty between SP3 and current HotSync Manager.  I'll buy a Mac before I go to Vista, and rolling back is unattractive.  Anyone know of another work-around?

Like WyreNut, I have two XP desktops with SP3 installed. One desktop has PD 4.2 installed, and I have had no Hotsync issues with my TXes.
But the second desktop has PD 6.2.2 installed which I use with my Centro. I do not sync routinely (I don't really use the desktop for any contacts or calendar, and I backup daily with NVBackup to a SD card). And, since downloading SP3 on this desktop I have not run a Hotsync, until today.
I plugged the Centro in, and pressed the Hotsync button on the cable connector, and absolutely nothing happened. Several times. The LED glows red indicating that the cable connection is OK. But the Hotsync button refused to initiate a Hotsync. So on the Centro, I went into the System category, and opened the Hotsync application, tapped the Hotsync icon in the middle of the screen to initiate a Hotsync directly from the Centro. Hotsync proceeded normally, though it took forever because I had not done a Hotsync since early September.
After that Hotsync completed and Hotsync Manager shut down, I pressed the Hotsync button on the connector again, and as the seasonal poem goes (with apologies to Clement Clarke Moore):
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but the Hotsync Manager's progress bar so dear.
I don't understand much about Windows, but maybe the Hotsync Manager just needed a jump start after installing SP3. Anyway, it's working fine now.

  • ICloud 2.1.1 not working with Microsoft Outlook 2013?

HI, I needed some assistance from the experts here.
I just had my laptop reformatted and redownload & installed the latest version of iCloud 2.1.1 Control Panel for Windows & Microsoft Office 2013.
When I click on the buttom "Apply" to setup outlook for iCloud, i got this error message at Step 4 of 7. It keeps refreshing these 2 sentences "Downloading Contacts from iCloud" & "Uploading Contacts to iCloud" & eventually errored out with this error message "Your setup couldn't be started because of an unexpected error".
I checked my Microsoft Outlook 2013 & there is an iCloud Plug-In.
But clicking on the "Go Online" button doesn't do anything.
I used to be able to click on a "Go Online/Refresh" button in the past (with Microsoft Office 2007) and able to then synchronise new contacts in my outlook to iphone. But apparently, this doesn't work anymore.
Thereafter, I tried uninstalling iCloud 2.1.1 and reinstalling it again immediately (without rebooting my laptop) & the same error message occurs when i tried to setup outlook for iCloud. And the worst thing is now the "iCloud plug-in" disappear inside Microsoft Outlook 2013 totally.
I tried reading several threads and got confused.
Is iCloud 2.1.1 Control Panel for Windows not compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2013 yet?
Do I just have to wait for a new release from Apple or did i do something wrong in the installation of the softwares?
Aprpreciate the assistance from some experts here.

Well it's now the 14th and no replies, so have you sorted it.
I could not get Outlook 2013 working with the control panel, although was working it was saying it was not configured.
Worse still tried going back to Outlook 2007 and it did not want to know, in the end a disk image restore was required.
I will try Outlook 2013 again in a few months maybe.

  • Formatted HP dm4-3099se with Windows 7 Home Premium and Would Want to Re-install the Home Premium

My laptop is HP Pavilion dm4-3099se and it came with Windows 7 Home Premium. The password was misplaced and I was advised to format the system. The system was formatted (all the disks were deleted except the C: drive) and a Windows 8 pro OS installed. Shortly after the formatting, the misplaced password was found. If it is possible, I would love to revert to the OS that came with the system (i.e Window Home Premium) and also recover all the drivers that came with the system.
    Please, help me.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    There are Two options available.
    1.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below - these will reinstall the operating system, all required drivers and nearly all of the original software ( the exception often being trials of MS Office ).  They will also re-create all the original partitions, including the Recovery Partition.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
    2.  Another option you could consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.
Also, if possible, back-up the swsetup folder that can be found at the root of your C drive.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source ( Digital River ).
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Regarding the drivers etc you need, if you were able to back-up the swsetup this will contain all the software and driver installers for your notebook - if you weren't able to, drivers and software you may need can also be found Here.
    Best regards,
    DP-K
