If Windows fails to start because it failed to read the boot configuration data and it’s asking you to insert the operating system disc, you can try rebuilding the boot configuration data (BCD).
Press F11 at boot and go into the Recovery Manager.
Press Alt + D to launch the Command Prompt.
Type “C:” and hit enter.
Type “bootrec /rebuildbcd” and hit enter
It will locate the Windows installations and ask you to add it to the configuration.  You’ll need to select the appropriate number for yes and then hit enter.  (If it finds 0 installations, you’ll have to try rebuilding it manually – doesn’t work very often)
That’s it, reboot the notebook and you’ll probably have to select “Start Windows Normally” and it should hopefully load fine.
If you get an error message stating “… is not recognized as an internal or external command” then the command has been typed incorrectly.

  • Recovery Discs for HP Pavilion dv7-4061!!!!

I have this laptop, but the disc would not boot.  I used my Windows 8 disc from my desktop just so I could get it to boot.  When I try to order recovery discs (recovery drive was reformatted), it doesn't recognize my serial number.  I've ordered from HP before with much less issues.  What Gives!?

    Hi:
I have asked your situation be brought to the attention of a paid HP staff member.
Hopefully the problem will be resolved.
If for some reason, HP cannot help (meaning they don't have the recovery disks anymore--which I doubt is problem), then you can order a set from this other vendor.

Make sure you have a dv7-4061nr

  • Creating Recover Disc - HP Pavilion 17 - I'm a novice at this and really need support

I downloaded information and directions for doing this procedure from the HP website.  I have a couple of questions to clarify some of my concerns.
    1. Using dvd - is the writable dvd the same one you would use for burning videos or different?
    2. I just now learned that this procedure should have been done right after I purchased the computer.  The only information I have on my PC are my emails.  I have not bought any software yet. Just have the factory installed stuff.  My question regarding this is in the article that states it will not save all software  but you can save software to a system image using windows 8 to crate a system image. I have instructions to do that but ned opions on whether I shuld just do it for only  my files emails) or do it for drivers, windows, system settings programs files:  .  It also states the following which is very confusing to me that HP recovery restores the software image to its original condition.  Any software that was installed later is removed when you perform an HP recovery.  Does this mean if I do the HP recoveering first that I will lose my emails as well as the favorites bar that I have created for ease of connecting to important websites without typing in the address.  It was created for me and is installed with my verizon internet provider screen.
    3.  I have an ALERT stating that windows 8 update hangs at 12% 13% 14% or 15%.  This alert appeared on the HP Product detection/HP warranty results website and also another website that I don't remeber.  What does this mean?  I have no idea if I'm suppose to do something.
I really need your help and opinions on how I should proceed on the above problems.

Thank you so much for your quick reply.  I do have some questions/comments to verify that I understand your responses.
    1.  DVD's - I understand that I should use the best discs that will work in my DVD, such as Verbatim, Sony, etc.
In addition to that is there any other preferences for the actual DVD, such as for using on a 64-bit process that I have on my notebook, speed, other important features? No, just get good quality DVD +R or -R discs. Sony usually works well for me.
    2.  I unerstand that the actual creation of  the recovery disc will in no way affect my added software and created documents such as my e-mails, and favorites bar,  etc, that it only covers the factory installed items..Correct. Using the discs to restore/reinstall on the laptop puts it back to out of box state. With this procedure many people use a regular backup of files to put back on the machine after a factory Recovery. An external USB Hard drive is very nice for this, but backups can also be done on DVDs.
    3.  Creating a system image - am I correct in assuming this process does not duplicate any of the items in the created recover discs?  Also, as you add more info such as software, douments, etc. to your computer requires another system  image creation. It duplicates items in Recovery such as  Windows, drivers & software- but is also an exact copy of the hard drive with your added files, newly installed programs, photos, etc. All of your personal files + the files in Recovery Discs are in an Image. Opposite effect of restoring with Recovery Discs-this process restores laptop with original Windows, software & drivers plus your added files. And yes- additional Images would be needed to keep an up to date image.
    4. USB Flash drive - I have no idea what this is but I have instructions for using this procedure for creating recovery image to a use flash drive and that it is a faster process than using DVD's.  Is the USB flash ddrive something that I have to purchase, is it expensive and does my PC have the capability of using this process? Your laptop has capabilty to make Recovery on USB- but actually this process is giving owners more trouble than DVDs. Many times resulting in buying several flash drives before finding one that works. My advice-stck with DVDs.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Need a Recovery CD for HP Pavilion dv6t-7000, want to purchase the cd from south america

    Hi there:
I accidentally deleted all partitions from my HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 hard disk, I need the recovery disk, where can I purchase and download it?

If you know someone in the USA... order the discs or have them order the discs and send to their address. Once they receive the discs, have them mail the disc set to you in Venezuela.
Alternatively, if you can still read the 25-digit Windows product key on the Microsoft COA affixed to the bottom the computer, you can install Windows 7 using this key. Please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media, and install Windows 7 using the 25-digit product key from the Microsoft COA on your computer. Using this method will not install any HP customizations or value-added software and you will have to manually install all needed drivers.

  • How do I get a replacement install disc for my MacBook Pro?

My MacBook Pro was stolen last year and recently recovered by the police.  I was overjoyed until I found that the theif installed windows 7 onto to my computer.  I know I need to reformat my hardrive but I no longer have the system intalll disc that came with my computer.  Can I just buy a OS X disc from apple or do I need to get a specific disc MacBook disc for everything to work properly?
    -Ryan

For software discs, there are two cases:
    a) came with 10.6. In this case order the replacement DVD from Apple.
    b) came with 10.7. In this case there may be no replacement discs. Start up with Command-R and install 10.7 from the Internet.
This varies slightly depending on EXACTLY which model you have.

... BTW, when you perform the - Weekly "Macrium - Image Backups", do you backup to a local USB cable connected External Usb Drive or wireless wifi connected to a NAS Drive ?
I have a Verbatim 2TB external USB 3.0 drive plugged into the PC.  It's used for both my weekly image backups as well as my nightly data backups.  I have one of these on EACH machine in my environment, for backups local to that machine.  I also use them on machines I build for friends and family, as everybody needs a backup system for "priceless data".
Actually, to be a bit more complete, my "data" backups consists of two parts: (1) 1st-of-the-month FULL backups of all my data, and (2) nightly INCREMENTAL backups which handles anything created/changed in the past 24 hours.  Thus a "backup set" consists of the beginning FULL backup coupled with the ever-growing throughout-the-month set of nightly INCREMENTAL backups.
NovaBACKUP can handle all of this if you need to recover something, so you yourself don't need to know exactly which backup file your file is located on.  You simply identify the folder/file(s) you wish to recover, and the AS-OF date you want for that file (with "as of the latest version available" being the default).  If you want to recover an older version than the most current version, you simply slide a GUI time-slider backwards until you arrive at the as-of date you desire.  NovaBACKUP then figures out where the most current version is AS OF THE DESIRED DATE, and accesses that one-or-more backup files in order to complete your task.
I retain multiple "backup sets" (going back 4 complete months), so I can recover any folder/file(s) I had available on any specific night during the past 4 months.  Most commonly of course it's typically "get me the most current version available as of last night", but just in case that version is corrupt or I truly want an earlier version, I can get it easily.

  • New hard disk for HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc

I need to get af new hard disk drive for my HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc. I have great difficulties in getting in touch with HP denmark since my product is out of waranty.
My questions is if the PC can handle a disk larger than my current on on 500 GB. Further more I am not sure about other potential limits the PC could have ini regards to speed and other parameters on a new disk drive
    This question was solved.

As your computer is out of warranty, please purchase a 500GB - 2TB 3.5" SATA2 or 3 hard drive from an online or local retailer. If the new drive is an AF (Advanced Format) drive, you may have issues using the HP Recovery Media you created or purchased.
If this is the case and you can still read the 25-digit Windows product key on the Microsoft COA affixed to your computer, you can install Windows 7 using this key. Please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media, and install Windows 7 using the 25-digit product key from the Microsoft COA on your computer. This method will not install any HP customizations or value-added software and you will have to manually install all needed drivers.
