Recovered files "object label badly formatted" .ai files

I just had a mishap where all of my graphic files were deleted due to operator error.  I bought a file recovery software which said it supported .ai files, and they show up like a normal .ai file but when I try to open them in illustrator I get the following error:
Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted.
If anyone has a possible idea on how to access these files again, please let me know, I lost a ton of illustrator work that can not easily be re-drawn.
Thanks

I keep finding posts about CS4 and .pdf files having this issue, but none that seems to parallel my issue.  I am working in CS3 (primitive I know, I just haven't had the funds to upgrade).  Thanks for posting, but I am not on a MAC but will have access to one tomorrow at work.  I will try your suggestion on my lunch hour and hope that works.

  • Illustrator File Will Not Open -  Error message "Object label badly formatted"

    I have been working on a large image file for one of my classes; it has many layers and custom swatches, no text. I work on Creative Cloud at home, CS6 at school, and I think I had my .ai file saved under legacy file format CS4 trying to be safe (because I was not sure of my school's version and I have had a lot of problems accessing my files at school because of the version differences). I have been working on it back and forth between computers for quite a while, and today--while I had the image on my computer recently--it says "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties: Object label badly formatted" if I try to open it.
    I have tried: updating Adobe Illustrator; creating a new AI document and "placing" the file into it; opening the file in Acrobat (the file opened, which was a step...but it only showed a tiny portion of the artwork and left the rest blank. Under the tools, however, it still showed the image had 15 layers (under the layer menu)--and it had them marked them as "visible"--but there wasn't anything I could do to actually view them; I tried copy/pasting into illustrator from Acrobat; opening in Acrobat and "saving as" a PDF (it said "The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading the document (111)"; and I just did a system restore hoping that could exorcise the demons--but no such luck so far.
    Do you have any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any words of wisdom and support you might have...and chocolate.
    Thanks for reading this.

    We now understand the problem, and are testing a solution. Here's my current understanding of all the elements of this issue.
    CAUSE: The problem occurs in an interaction between Illustrator CS4, Suitcase Fusion 2 v13.2, and having an Illustrator document with one or more text boxes, containing text, which is *completely* off the artboard—not even the bounding box is touching the artboard. *Additionally*, there must also be at least one text box, with text in it, which is *on* the artboard (even so much as having the bounding box partly on the artboard is sufficient, again). When these conditions are met, saving the document *may* (but does not always) cause the problem.
    PROBLEM: Attempting to open an affected document in Illustrator CS4 fails, with an "object label badly formatted" error. The problem can occur with older illustrator documents opened in CS4, as well as native CS4 documents.
    UNAFFECTED: Despite any speculation in this thread, this problem does not affect Photoshop, nor has it occurred with any version of Extensis Suitcase older than Suitcase Fusion 2 v13.2, which shipped about eight days ago.
    SOLUTION: The problem should be resolved by a 13.2.1 dot release. Although things could be delayed if we find something unexpected in testing, we currently expect to have the fix available this week, probably tomorrow (Thursday).
    DOCUMENT RECOVERY: Extensis can fix any Illustrator CS4 document which exhibits this problem. For now, contact Extensis tech support if you need help with recovering any such Illustrator document. Be prepared to send tech support the affected Illustrator file(s). • Acrobat pdf file format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted.

    I'm using Adobe Illustrator CS5 on a PC (Windows XP)
    When I try to open one particular file, I get the following message:
    "Acrobat pdf file format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted."
    I've seen some discussions about this error msg previously, but only when using CS4, and everyone was referring to some type of "suitcase fusion", which I am not using.
    Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated

    I created the file in Illustrator CS5 and saved it as an .ai file.
    It does not open in Acrobat or Reader... not sure what other programs you think I should try?
    It's basically a bunch of lines and some text... the text is a Font that we use here at the MTO (FHWA)
    This is the first time I've ever had this problem.
    The weird thing is if I try to open the file in Illustrator by clicking "File", then "Open..." and then highlight the file in the "Open Dialog Window", I can see a preview of the file.  But then when I finally click "open" in the dialog window, I get that error message?

  • Object Label Badly Formatted

    I'm trying to open an .ai file in Illustrator CS6. I get an error message "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Object label badly formatted" I have tried recovery mode and running recovery scripts to no avail.
    I won't open or place in any other software. I can; however, see a preview in Bridge.
    I'm not using any fonts software and there are no fonts present in the document. The file contains a lot of gradient mesh and a photo (.jpg, placed)
    Lost a lot of work. Please help.

    You already tried the obvious.
    There's no backup available?
    It won't help you with this specific file, but:
    did you work directly on remote or removable media (like a server or a USB stick)?

  • File object can't find a file

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a File object using:
    File file = new File("myfile.txt");
    I am getting a FileNotFoundException.
    The file is stored in a folder (windows2000) that I have put on both my classpath and path.
    When I type echo %classpath% or %path% I see the folder.
    I am running this as a standalone class (not a servlet).
    I am using Websphere Studio App. Developer.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vaughne

    Thanks but I don't want to specify an absolute path.
    On my PC the file exists in "e:\SomeFolder"
    Put on the production PC it may exist in "c:\SomeOtherFolder"
    That's why I want the JVM to find the file using either the Path or Classpath variables......
    ------------------8<----------------
    You do have to supply the full path to the file if you want to load it.
    If you need to supply a different path on each system, then use a system property. To pass in a system property at run time, use:
    java -DmyFilePath=c:\somefolder ......
    In your code, you can retrieve the path using:
    String myPath = System.getProperty("myFilePath");
    File myfile = new File(myPath + System.getProperty("file.separator") + "MyFile.txt");
    Thanks,

  • How to RELIABLY compare two File objects?

    Hi java community!
    I have two File objects and I need to know whether they both point to the same file on the system. First, I tried using the equals() method of the File object, but later I found that this often returns false even when file being pointed to by both objects is the same file.
    For example:
      public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        File mFileA = new File("C:\\PROGRA~1\\MYPROG~1\\MYDATA~1.TXT");
        File mFileB = new File("C:\\Program Files\\My Program\\My Data File.txt");
        DataInputStream mInputA = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(mFileA)));
        DataInputStream mInputB = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(new FileInputStream(mFileB)));
        System.out.println("Contents of file A:");
        while (mInputA.available() > 0) {
          System.out.println(mInputA.readLine());
        System.out.println("\nContents of file B:");
        while (mInputB.available() > 0) {
          System.out.println(mInputB.readLine());
        System.out.println("\nAre file A and file B the same file?");
        System.out.println(mFileA.equals(mFileB) ? "Yes" : "No");
      }Running this gives the following output:
    Contents of file A:
    First line of the file.
    Second line of the file.
    Third and final line of the file.
    Contents of file B:
    First line of the file.
    Second line of the file.
    Third and final line of the file.
    Are file A and file B the same file?
    NoIt seems that the different representation of the paths (short 8.3 file names, vs. long file names) is confusing Java into believing that they are two separate files, even though the example above confirms that they are in fact the same file by showing the contents from input streams derived by the two File objects (which are, needless to say, identical).
    So, does anyone know how to reliably determine whether two File objects point to the same file?
    Cheers,
    Martin

  • Create File Object from a remote file

    Hi,
    I would like to know about how to create a new File object from a file in a remote machine, it is a web application, i have the remote route of the file, and if I need the ip of the remote machine, I would like to know how to get it too.
    File fileobject = new File(What do I have to put here or before or whatever?);
    Thank you very much.
    J.

    First, from the technical point of view you can't create a File object unless it's a file on the computer where the code is running. It doesn't matter if you have an IP address or something, if you haven't mapped a drive to it you can't create a File object.
    But more importantly, you can't just reach out from your server and grab a file from the client's computer. That's an obvious security violation and if you didn't realize that you shouldn't be designing web applications yet. If you want a file uploaded then you have to provide the client with an HTML form where they select a file to be uploaded.

  • Passing File objects

    It may be that I just don't understand OO principles enough, but I'm having difficulties when I pass a File object to a method. Here's the method that is confusing me.
    The method is suppose to change a file's name. It does this just fine. Then I want to change the name inside the File object that points to the file to reflect the new name.
    private void foo(File f){
    String p = f.getParent();
    String n = f.getName();
    File tmp = new File(p + "\\" +"Processed_" + n);
    boolean b = false;
    rename = f.renameTo(tmp);
    So then I envoke the method with this
    File myFile = new File(pathname);
    foo(myFile);
    myfile.getname();
    Why does myfile.getName return the original name of the file? I pass the myFile by reference to foo(), correct? So when I modify myFile inside foo(), shouldn't those changes persist after exiting foo()?
    I've also tried putting this line of code after the rename in foo()
    f = new File(p + "\\" +"Processed_" + n);
    But when I exit out of foo() this name is not in myFile. myFile still has the original name. The name of the physical file has changed.
    Any takers?????
    PS when I use f.getName() after the rename inside foo(), the new name is returned.

    I looked at the source code for the File class. It appears as if File.renameTo() is indeed renaming the physical file but not updating the name of the file stored in the object; so, when you call getName() after the rename, it returns the original file name.
    The Java source method is as follows:
    public boolean renameTo(File dest) {
         SecurityManager security = System.getSecurityManager();
         if (security != null) {
         security.checkWrite(path);
         security.checkWrite(dest.path);
         return fs.rename(this, dest);
    fs is a FileSystem object.
    Basically, this looks like you're the victim of a sin of omission rather than a sin of commission. Your understanding of pointers in Java is not (necessarily) faulty; it's just that it looks like in this case Sun programmers either forgot to add a setName call or they decided it was beyond this scope of the renameTo() method call to do so.

  • Recovered photos from bad driver, but files are .ithmb, & won't convert!!!

    Hi, .. My hard-drive was damaged, and Time Machine backed-up everything on the external drive, except my second iPhoto Library, called iPhoto Library-2, .. and Genius Bar couldn't find the reason, nor could they fix it. For some reason Time Machine just saved thumbnails, and the dates and the locations were all intact.
    However, when the technician tried to recover data from the bad drive, using Mac Drive, Media Four, via PC, all the pictures from Library-2 has .ithmb extension. Not Library one. Library one is fine just like time-machine back-up. I used File Juicer to convert .ithmb files into readable file, but it couldn't do it.
    My question is, .. Has this happened to anyone? Why the rescued files are .ithmb? Did we recover the data in a wrong way? Are the picture in Library 2 corrupted, thus damaged drive, & the thumbnails? Should we use another software to recover? Is the problem using a PC to recover instead of a Mac?
    Thank you in-advance for your help. Babak
    P.S. Time-Machine's back-up shows Library 2 thumbnails, under 1GB, which is no way 19,000 pictures be under 1GB, but the data recovery rescue shows 14GB. .. I'm very confused what to do. Specially, that all the pictures from my iPhone was accidentally erased the next day by iTunes, even-though I stopped the sync, somehow pictures were deleted. So, my only hope is rescuing the pictures from the bad drive.

    Hi, I don't know if you're still looking for an answer, but I can tell you that you can easily convert those .ithmb files to viewable .jpgs files on your working pc. It's a bit time consuming but easy. Don't waste your money on expensive software or recovery options, because they will not work. This is freeware and it's a very small command line program. You can download it for free here:
    http://www.4shared.com/file/50707723/37b8a1ad/iThmbConv.html
    Now follow these steps:
    1. Create a new foder called Thumbs as a subdirectory of your hard drive. I assume this your C: drive. (example C:\Thumbs)
    2. Copy all the .ithmb files into this folder.
    3. Download the iThmbConv program file directly into this folder.
    4. Now, on your pc desktop, go to Start, Run and enter cmd in the box. Hit okay.
    5. When the black screen command prompt comes on, type cd.. at the end of the prompt line. Press Enter.
    6. The next line should only show C:\> If not, enter cd.. again to just show C:\>
    7. Now type cd Thumbs When you press enter, the next line should be C:\Thumbs>
    8. Assuming one of your .ithmb picture files is named T100. (They are all T and a number, so I'm using T100 as an example) Now type iThumbConv T100.ithmb
    You should now see a few copies of your original .ithmb file in the Thumbs folder in a format that is viewable on your pc such as .jpg or whatever.
    Repeat step #8 for each additional .ithmb file you want to convert. Then, you can ditch the the copies you don't need.
    uming, but easy.

  • Formatted .data file, reading in and creating an array of objects from data

    Hi there, I have written a text file with the following format;
    List of random personal data: length 100
    1 : Atg : Age 27 : Income 70000
    2 : Dho : Age 57 : Income 110000
    3 : Lid : Age 40 : Income 460000
    4 : Wgeecnce : Age 43 : Income 370000
    and so on.
    These three pieces of data, Name,Age and Income were all generated randomly to be stored in an array of objects of class Person.
    Now what I must do is , read in this very file and re-create the array of objects that they were initially written from.
    I'm totally lost on how to go about doing this, I have only been learning java for the last month so anyone that can lend me a hand, that would be superb!
    Cheers!

    Looking at you other thread, you are able to create the code needed - so what's the problem?
    Here's an (not the only) approach:
    Create an array of the necessary length to hold the 3 variables, or, if you don't know the length of the file, create a class to contain the data. Then create an ArrayList to hold an instance of the class..
    Use the Scanner class to read and parse the file contents into the appropriate variables.
    Add each variable to either the array, or to an instance of the class and add that instance to the arraylist.

  • Finder cannot open files in the "volume" format.

    I had to downgrade from the second Yosemite beta in order to run one of my applications for work that didn't run on Yosemite. I've successful reinstalled Mavericks to the chagrin of finder not working at all. Whenever I mount a DMG I get "Finder cannot open files in the “volume” format." Also, whenever I click to open a folder or a new window in finder, it just crashes and relaunches. I'm going to try to do a fresh install of Mavericks and recover from a backup. Let me know if you guys have faced this same issue and found a solution.
    I also had to regain admin privileges for my user which I have done successfully.

    I fixed my problem by installing Mavericks again. No need to fully restore.

    Hi Ajay,
    1.  You have to create a separate field catelogus and AIS according to your requirement with the required fields you want . Because the standard structures and field catelogues contains many fields from all tables. So before doing the read operation you have to deactivate the standard AIS and activate your newly created AIS .
    2. Can you give some more details for this question to be answered.
    3. The important archiving tables used are ARCH_IDX,ARCH_RPRG,ARCH_DEF.
    4. While scheduling the Read process in batch mode , it will give you three criterias to be entered.
         . Spool Parameters
         (ii). Start date
         (iii). Archive selection of files.
        Unless you enter values for any one of these options , You cannot execute the batch job.
    Hope this would help you.
    Regards - Swarna.
