Recovering audiobook

I bought an audiobook from iTune store and downloaded it to my library. I listened to the book. My computer crashed without a backup. I have reloaded everything from scratch. Now, I see the book in my purchase history (part of my iTunes Store account info). How do I get the book back into my library on my PC?

Hello zoob-nc,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Purchases made from the iTunes store (with the exception of Apps) can only be downloaded once. If you lose the purchased content, you will need to purchase it again. For information, see this Apple support document.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1469
However, there is still a chance iTunes support might let you download it again for free. I say it's at least worth a shot. Here is how you can contact them.

  • How to recover audiobook bookmarks after upgrade to iOS 7?

I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 and here's one of the issues that this brought up:
I used to listen to audiobooks in the built-in Music app and the app would show the bookmarks or a time-code where I left off listening to my audiobooks and begin playing from that same spot even if I switched to listen to something else in the meantime. I'm concerned now because after this upgrade it doesn't show my bookmarks anymore.
How do I get them back?

Had you backed up the phone via iTunes or iCloud? If so, the backup includes audio book bookmark in the iCloud and you will be able to restore that backup to a replacement iPhone.
If you had been syncing your phone to back it up, you can use 3rd party software like iPhone Bookmark Recovery to try to recover some of your data from your backup.  However, if your audio books are not fully included in the backup (they are only backed up as necessary to maintain call favorites and recent call lists).  This article will show what's included in the backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946.

  • How do I recover an audiobook after a harddrive crash?

I recently purchased an audiobook via itunes on my iMac. The hard drive on that iMac failed completely a short time later and needed to be replaced (which was done at an Apple store). I want to redownload the audiobook I purchased onto the new hard drive so I can have it in my Library. The audiobook shows up under "purchase history" but not under the "books" section of "download previous purchases"
I DID upload the audiobook to my iphone 4 before the hard drive died, and turned on "home sharing" on my iphone to see if I could possibly retrieve the audiobook off the iphone via homesharing, but the phone does not show up under "shared" libraries in itunes.
If I try to sync the phone to the iMac NOW, I'm pretty sure I will lose the audiobook if the content that is NOW on the iMac is transferred to my iphone. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't want to chance it if there is no other recovery method.
    Ideas?

To clarify, it shows up under "purchase history" as part of my appleID account detail, with my order number, invoice number, date of purchase, price, etc... That info is not a downloadable file.
When I go under "Purchased" in the STORE menu, the audiobook does not show up (incidentally I have purchased multiple audio books in the past) and NONE of them show up, and therefore cannot be redownloaded.
Upon further research it seems I can not download an audiobook more than once and the only way to now recover it is to beg apple to re-redeem my purchase? Is that correct?

  • I plugged my iPhone into my MacBook and my audiobooks are gone. When I go to iTunes it looks as though I never purchased them. Please help me figure out how I might recover my missing audiobooks, thank you.

I have run into this problem once before last week and I called to solve the problem. But when I plugged my iPhone knot my MacBook again my audiobooks were gone again. If you could help me recover my audiobooks that would be great!! Thank you!

  • How the do I recover my audiobooks with out a computer?

I Have purchased loads of audiobooks and there the only thing I cannot recover once deleted .

Audiobooks are a one-time only download from the store. For those that are still in your country's store (and if you haven't changed countries since buying them) then you can try contacting iTunes Support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page
Other items only remain redownloadable whilst the rights-holder leaves them in the store - they could be removed at any time.

how to recover my audiobooks from 2006 to present?

Audiobooks are currently a one-time only download from the store, have you got copies of them anywhere e.g. on your computer and/or on a backup ?  If not (and if they are still in the store) then you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • HT203167 i cannot find any trace in my itunes account of numerous audiobooks that i have bought in the last year. how can i recover these. they are in my purchase history but not in my collection.

i cannot find any trace in my collection of audiobooks that i have purchased over numerous months. they appear in my purchase history but are nowhere to be found in my itunes . how should i recover these ?

If you can't find the files in the iTunes folder on your hard drive, then you'll need to restore them from your backups. Audiobooks have not at this time been licensed for re-downloading from the iTunes Store.
    Regards.

  • Audiobooks don't recover to same spot after pause or on/off

If I'm listening to an audiobook (from Audible) and have to pause for whatever reason (answer the phone, etc.) or turn the Shuffle off and back on later, I find it starts 10-20 minutes or so before where I was when I stopped. It's as if a large file gets chopped into pieces and the shuffle is approximating the closes "mini-section" to where I paused. Shouldn't it just mark the exact time and restart there? Because there's no screen, of course, I can't note where I was so I have to skim around till I found it. If I knew I couldn't trust it to remember, I'd have wasted money and gotten a nanosimply so I'd know where I was...

Many of us are having this problem. Maybe if enough of us submit bug reports, they will fix it? Alas, I think we book listeners are in the minority.
In my experience, iPod looses it's place in several ways. The most consistent and reproducible is: stop (or pause) the book, turn iPod off, let iPod go into deep sleep (72 hours?), start iPod, PLAY - book resumes at the place it was stopped BEFORE the last stop. i.e.: If I stop the book at 23 minutes, come back and resume until 45 minutes, then stop and leave iPod for over a day, when I resume it will start playing at 23 minutes instead of 45 like it should.
There's also the problem where it will show the last stop time correctly, then go back to the very beginning after you press PLAY. And the one where iPod will jump into the next segment of a multi-segment book when you resume play. And the problem where iPod will just go back to the main menu.
I have submitted a bug report. I hope they fix it as it is very annoying. I have to keep a sticky note on iPod and write down where I stopped so I can get back to the right place.

  • How do I recover purchased audiobooks?

I purchased several audiobooks from iTunes and downloaded them to my iPhone.
To save space, I removed some of them.
How can I re-download them to my more spacious iPad?

I don't think that audiobooks are included in the iTunes in the cloud availability for free downloads again. If you delete them, you have to purchase them again. That is why Apple "stresses" backing up your purchases in iTunes by transferring purchased content into your iTunes library. If you rely simply on downloading something again after you delete it, it may not be available when you go to download it again.
Anyway, I am pretty use that's the case with audiobooks, but the best way to know for sure, is to go the purchased tab in iTunes and see if they show up for another download, but I don't think that they will.
You can check here to see exactly what content you can download again for free with your Apple ID.

  • HT203288 My computer crashed and I lost my audiobooks, how can I recover them?

I have proof of payment for audiobooks bought on iTunes over 90 days ago but I did not back them up.
How can I get these audiobooks without having to pay twice?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

  • How can I recover my purchased audiobooks?

I bought quite a few audio books on my old computer, when I switched my computers the audio books didnt transfer. Now with icloud I thought I would be able to recover them but I've been looking forever and there doesn't seem to be any way to. Can you help me?

They will only be where you put them.
You need to copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • Please help. My audiobooks have disappeared from my itunes library and there is no option to redownload them.

I went to listen to one of my audiobooks on a run to see that they have all disappeared.
I checked to see if they were in the cloud and could be redownloaded, but they can't.
My account history clearly shows the purchase but that's it.
Does anyone have any tips as to how I could avoid having to rebuy them!!!
    Kerry--Ann

Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 (not audiobooks) Apple recommends, "... back up your iTunes library. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they've been refunded or aren't on the iTunes Store." (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).
It is reported iTunes Support occasionally permitting a second download when asked nicely, but they are in no way obligated to do this. Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; select 'iTunes' in the first column; 'iTunes Store' in the second column; third column click 'Purchases, Billing & Redemption' and proceed from there.
Buy a backup drive.  Next time it will be everything on your computer missing, including things like photos which nothing can recover.
