Recovering calendar lost when upgrading to iCloud

So I downloaded the new OS10.8 and in short order screwed up.  I lost my iCal data (was running 10.6.8).
I have two Apple ID logins - I had a mobile me account (let lapse by not upgrading OS) and the one for my iTunes purchases, etc.  I don't think that is any problem, but when I logged into iCloud to begin to resync everything on my laptop with the new OS, I logged in and the calendar data showed up, but the 'Notes" app said something about which email it would use to send me things, and I decided to log out of iCloud and relogin with my other account (other Apple ID).  To log out you have to delete the data from all the apps iCould syncs apparently.  Long story short I logged out and back in a few times to try to figure out which data was associated with each login and the behavior of iCloud and wound up throwing away my calendar data from the cloud - which is apparently the 'mother' file that pushes to all devices.  Luckily (I hope) I did a time machine back up on an external drive just prior to downloading the new OS, so I should have the iCal data somewhere??   I can't figure out a) if that backup was done under the OS 10.6.8, could I just dig up that file without a total restore?  b) is there one file that has all my iCal info in one spot (with multiple calendars)?  c.) how do I get that file to the cloud under the new OS 10.8 to be the Mother file and push to all my devices?
Thanks for help in advance.
Thanks,
Chuck

  • Mail lost when upgrading to Tiger - help!

We finally upgraded to Tiger 9from an earlier version of OS X. When we opened mail, we were prompted to import messages. But only the most recent messages appear in the new mailbox -- we've lost thousands of e-mails!
How can we recover the lost e-mails and import them into the mail program in Tiger?
    Thanks!

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you want and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Web configuration lost when upgrading to advanced server admin

    Hello,
after setting correctly the basic configuration, and setting the web servives, we did the upgrade to advanced option and then we focues to other apple problems like getting network connection, starting xgrid, etc), and then is when we realized that the web settings, server name, etc were lost when we moved to the advanced server admin.
    grrrrr!
    any idea?
    thanks

I would most emphatically recommend that you get your boss to sign off on you having no liability nor culpability for any results of work he expects you to do "on the side".
People study and learn for years - and appropriately so ! - in order to accomplish this kind of work effectively and efficiently.
If you are learning and have a non-production environment to work with and potentially wipe & reinstall where need be, then by all means, go for it (start learning).
But otherwise your boss should accept that s/he is getting what they're paying for, and since it is nothing, they should be prepared for that.
It is neither technically nor professionally advisable to foist a task such as this on someone and expect the result(s) to be that of a trained professional in that field. The fundamental concern is the disconnect there, and the unacceptable risk this situation could put you in, either now or in the future.
To the matter at hand, I generally recommend strongly against an upgrade, as compared to a (verified good) backup, wipe and reinstall and configure from the outset as "Advanced."
For computer management, you will want to run your server as an Open Directory Master,
and as such, you must must must have verified working DNS lookup(s) for your server's FQDN, prior to proceeding with re-installing & reconfiguring it.

  • HT4236 Is there a way to recover photos lost when phone is accidently restored?

I recently restored my Iphone by mistake. Is there a way to recover my lost photos?

If the photos were not imported by your computer and your iPhone's backup was not updated to include the photos prior to restoring the iPhone, the photos are gone unless you had Photo Stream enabled with your iCloud account settings on the iPhone and all photos in the Camera Roll were copied to your Photo Stream prior to the restore.
iTunes does not handle the import of photos/videos on the Camera Roll.

  • HT1766 how can i recover calendar data that i lost when converted to icloud

i have lost most all of my data on my iphone when i went from mobilme to icloud...is there any way to recover it?

    Hi, Mike.
It sounds like you're trying to convert a PDF (which contains a "document open" password) to Microsoft Word. Is that correct? Which product or service are you using to do this conversion - Adobe CreatePDF or Adobe Acrobat or some other product?
CreatePDF cannot currently convert password-protected PDFs to Word. You will typically get an error which says that conversion cannot proceed due to password protection. Acrobat can convert password-protected PDFs to Word, provided you have the password and can provide that at the time you open the PDF in Acrobat.
If you would like to see CreatePDF better handle password-protected PDFs, please add that to our Ideas page.
    Thanks.
    Dave

  • Recovery of Calendar data lost when Merging with iCloud

I Was wondering if anyone could help.
Basically, I have somehow managed to wipe ALL the entries from my partners iPhone 5c calendar when turning calendars on for iCloud. When prompted I pressed the merge calendars button and then everything disappeared. I turned iCloud calendars off again and the calendar which was called something like "on my iphone" has disappeared.
I downloaded some 3rd party software which scanned the phone and found the calendar entries, but to restore them would cost my £55 for the full version of the software. Is there a way to access this data and restore it without spending this sort of money?
Just to complicate matters, a backup of her phone hasn't been done since the start of june, roughly 7 weeks ago. I'm concerned that if I restore from that backup she'll lose contacts she's added since there along with saves and other updates she's made to apps on her phone, which will put me in even more trouble than I'm in already. I'm guessing the phone hasn't been synced with iTunes since this backup was made, although I have transferred recent purchases.
So, is there a way to recover the calendar data that has disappeared without losing anything else?
    Thanks for for your help

    Hi
No I hadn't created a Calendar Archive before this mishap (I will now), and I thought it would be covered by the Time Machine Backup.   I was activating my iCloud drive for the first time and I think that it was doing this that somehow lost the calendar data. Previously the Calendar data was on the Mac hard drive.
I have now managed to get the old calendar back, but I don't quite know how.
The links to calendar backup in your reply led me to tinker more with the Time Machine, and the data on the My Passport drive directly. I could not see the any calendar directly in Finder or Time Machine, but a Finder search on My Passport's latest backup showed various calendar stuff, including .ics files, in [users/myname/library] which were hidden.
I either restored one of these, or imported one via Calendar. I tried both, but neither seemed to work at the time. However, I reopened Calendar a some time later and found that the “lost” calendar had returned.
I couldn't find a way of revealing hidden files in the preferences, and I think that the library containing the Calendar files must be hidden because I could only see them via “search”.
Anyway, all's well that ends well, but I wish that I really knew how I fixed it. Thanks for your help.

  • Lost some calendars themes when upgrading iPhoto to '11.

Hello, I've upgraded iPhoto (Provided with Snow Leopard)  to '11. Now, unfortunately, I lost some themes.
Especially in calendar I've now only; Picture Calendar, Colored Paper, Big Dates, Modern Lines, Travel, Vintage, Formal and Classic.
I'm missing at least Kid's Cutouts (also missing Paper Animals).
Since this are the most important (for me) themes in iPhoto I would like to get them back.
I've reinstalled iPhoto as described in some post, also look in Library / iPhoto /themes folders where the missing theme can be found.. but no success until now to have them back in iPhoto itself.
I'm now wondering how I can restore them?… Grand Parent loved the calendar last year and want one for this year too :-D
Hoping I will correct that issue before new year ;-)
    Thanks All

These are the calendar themes available with iPhoto 9.4.3:
There is a Kids theme.  What version of iPhoto are you running?

  • I lost my calendar data when upgrading from OS 8 to new OS 10

The OS upgrade worked fine.  Upon opening iCal in new Mountain Lion, I don't find any of my calendar entries from before the OS upgrade.

I have the same problem migrating from a G4 iMac running 10.4 to an intel iMac running 10.6. Cannot even import calendar files exported from the old machine. Help!

  • Lost all calendar data when upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.6.1

So I bought the "MacOS X Boxed Set" for SNow Leopard, and installed it over my former 10.4.11 install on the main drive of my Intel-based iMac. Everything seems to have made the transition just fine -- my desktop icons, my emails, my dock, etc. Except for iCal. I open it and it's blank! Why? How do I restore all the recurring events and such that were in iCal previously?

  • HT4236 REcover photos lost in upgrade

I do not have backup from Itunes and the phone freeze and I do the recovery and upload a backup from april and I lost photos in between the backup and the icloud set. I want to know if I can recover photos and videos that I lost

I upgraded my iPhone 4 to the iOS 4.2 and about 2,000 photos were wiped. Such a disappointment. Any ideas how to get them back? It looks as though they may be taking up the space on my phone but there is no way to access them (even through iPhoto or Image Capture). The fix explained here also does not work for me (as I had no music files on the phone) http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/22/ios-42-bug/

  • How do I remedy lost old burned in CD music onto a cpu lost when upgrading to iOS 7.1?

I recently and hesistantly upgraded my iphone 4s to the new iOS 7.1  I was nearing maximum capacity on my phone (32g), via indications from itunes and was looking to minimize things I did not need to clean things up and make room for more music.  While I typically upgrade iOS wirelessly, I happened to be tethered to my cpu and in itunes this time and have had a bad result from that process and looking for the easiest and safest way of retrieving the music that shows on my phone as there but un playable.  Somehow while I have successfully created capacity on my phone, my itunes account now shows a significant amount, if not all, of the music I manully burned into my cpu and merged into itunes from my CD collection no longer resides in my itunes account.  Again I see it on my phone under music, butr the text is greyed out and if I click the song it tries to play but then smiply skips through songs with teh same appearance unitl it finds one that I bought from itunes and plays that one?
How can I re activate or re instate my mysteriously lost or un playable music both on my phone and back into my itunes account with out losing it, or other music for that matter, again or having to manually load it back in (not something I'm likely to do).  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just wanted to add this information to my post:
I have purchaed, free and paid, 618 apps.
In my phone apps to add to my phone when I plug it in my computer only 266 apps show up.
In my itunes "puerchased list" only 266 show up.
Thank God I have not updated my ipad. There I went to my "purchased" under the ALL list in the app store and there I do see my 618 apps!
Where did my other 352 apps go? Which many were paid.
    I want my apps back.
    Thanks,
    Gaby

  • Addressbook and Calendar lost upon upgrading to

In upgrading to Yosemite from Maverick on my Macbook late 2009 (2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, Storage available: 242.73 GB, Capacity: 319.21 GB) I have lost all my AB contacts as well as my calendar. I have looked in my home folder>library>applications support>addressbook as suggested but there is no file: addressbook-v22.abcddb. The data appears to still be in library>caches>com.apple.Addressbook>metadata. I also have time machine backups on an external disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Timothy,
Welcome to the Discussions. It is possible they are not lost, but not displaying because of certain conversion issues. Because your mailboxes, or at least some of them, originated in an earlier version of Mail, I want you to read the article at the link below, and perhaps get back to me with some observations, before attempting any changes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailboxes you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but can also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger.
Also, please report the size of each file or folder. Do not, however, try to list the files that are within the folder named Messages, that is found in each and every mailbox. It is very important to compare the size of any file named "mbox" with that of the Messages folder. If the mbox is greater in size than the Messages folder, then not all messages have been converted to be in the Messages folder in that mailbox.
The path to the Mail folder is Home/Library/Mail -- within the Mail folder are one or more account folders and the Mailboxes folder.
Let me know what you find.
    Ernie

  • Contact List lost when upgrading to iOS 6

I upgrade my iPhone 4s to iOS 6 this morning and now my phone contact list os completely gone!  It looks like everything else is still there and no other problems, but I have no contacts loaded at all.  Unfortunately, I don't use iTunes as my wife's iphone is synched to that and I never did an iCloud backup.  Any suggestions from anyone (other than telling me to back up from now on)?  I spoke with Apple Care and they could not help restore it.  Any suggestions from Veriozn users?  Thanks!

You can still use iTunes even if your wife uses it but I understand. Next time if you do an update you can back it up on the cloud or tunes.
I didn't backup and I was fine except my apps I need to delete and put back because it kept on saying waiting but when I download a new one it would go right away.
