Recovering deleted mailboxes

Does anyone know how to recover deleted mailboxes in Mail? An hour ago, I installed the new software from Earthlink and told it to sync with Apple Mail. I ended up with two accounts in Mail, one with my address (the existing one) and another with my address prefaced by POP. I didn't realize what it had done, so I deleted my extra Trash mailbox. Trash disappeared and I didn't even realize/think about it. Did the same with Sent. Fine. But then, before I realized what I was doing, I did it with the In Box. Oh, no! All of the messages in my In Box are now gone. Everything works--I can still get messages--but all my archived stuff is gone. Does anyone know how to recover deleted mailboxes in Mail? The Help is of no help, and the basic pages here don't seem to cover this problem! Help! Help! SOS! M'aidez!

You may go to the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder in the Finder and check whether your mailboxes are really gone — they probably are, so don’t hold your breath.
If the messages are not on the server and you don’t have a backup (which you should have made before doing something like that), you may try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage. Of these, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • CAN I RECOVER DELETED MAILBOXES?

i deleted the mailboxes out of my mail app. they didnt go into the trash can? is there any way of getting them back?
    thanks

That depends on your email configuration. If you download and delete your messages from your mail server, you need to recover the missing mail from your most recent backup.
If you leave your email on your ISP's mail server, see if your ISP can recover the mail for you. Call your ISP's tech support people to inquire about this option.

  • Recover Deleted Items - where do they recover to when the mailbox is selected from Outlook, versus a particular folder

We are using Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 in our Exchange 2013 SP1 environment.
I noticed the following behavior when recovering deleted items:
From Outlook, I select my mailbox name and choose Folder-Recover Deleted Items.  Then, I select some items and click Restore Selected items.  However, I cannot find where these items are restored.
If I select a folder under my mailbox, then go to Folder-Recover Delete Items, the restored items go into that particular folder.
So, my question is, in the first scenario (entire Mailbox selected, not a particular folder), where are the restored items going?
    Has anyone else encountered this?

    Hi,
Recovered items are restored to the folder you’re working in. But root mailbox (mailbox name) is not supported to show items by default.
To find these messages, please take the following steps:
Right-click on root mailbox (mailbox name), choose Data File Properties.
Under Home Page tab, uncheck the box “show home page by default for this folder”
Click OK to save this change, then check the root mailbox.
    Best Regards.

  • Emails are automatically moved to Recover deleted Items folder

    Hi,
We have a user and he is receiving his emails in Inbox but after few seconds it will be automatically moved to Recover Deleted Items. We checked his Outlook and also in OWA and we couldn't see any rule. Even though I ran /cleanrules switch but still
same problem exists. Any suggesstion to resolve this issue? Thanks

    Hi,
By "Recover Deleted Items folder", do you mean the Deleted Items folder or
Recover Deleted Items dialog when clicking Folder tab >
    Recover Deleted Items button?
I'd like to confirm if all the received messages don’t disappear directly but still only stay in your mailbox for a short period of time before they disappeared?
Which version of Outlook are you using? Do you have the default delivery location of your mailbox set to a PST file?
In addition, some problematic add-in may also cause such issue, especially the virus scanner add-in that integrate with Outlook. If you have such add-in installed, I'd recommend you contact the vendor of the antivirus, ask them how to uninstall the
add-in or change the settings to ignore Outlook emails when scanning.

It's recommended to download and install

  • Unable to recover deleted item in Exchange 2010

I'm on Exchange 2010 Sp1 and Outlook 2010. I'm trying to recover a deleted item from the dumpster and when I do I get the following error message.
"Outlook was unable to recover some or all of the items in this folder. Make sure you have the required permissions to recover items in this folder, and try again. If the problem persists, contact your administrator."
I am the administrator and I fairly sure I have been able to do this since migrating my mailbox to Exchange 2010 from Exchange 2003. I've rebooted my PC. Any ideas what is going on?

Thanks for all the suggestions. That's correct. On my second non problematic PC I can login to my mailbox and recover deleted items without any problems. So same mailbox but different computer no problem. Actually I can recover a deleted item on my problematic
PC for other mailbox no problem too.
In regards to Mumin CICEK question my dumpster is set to 30 days. I tried multiple messages. Even messages that I had just deleted and emptied from deleted items. And again I can recover those same messages from another PC no problem.
In regards to the Windows profile may be corrupted I thought about that too. But what is interesting as using the same Windows profile if I login to a different mailbox I don't have any problems either.
I'll try fixmapi.exe as that seems like a good idea.
One last bit of additional information. My Outlook has hung and crashed on me several times of the past. It has happened when I've been connected to differernt mailboxes. From memory the debug mentioned something about a sharing violation. Maybe I should
turn off my anti virus to see if there is a corralation?

  • Recovering an Entire Folder from Recover Deleted Items

    Question:
If an entire folder is deleted , placed in Deleted Items, then Deleted Items is emptied ... can the entire Folder be recovered to Deleted Items from
    Recover Deleted Items function?
I seem to recall that this was once possible - but when I test with Outlook 2013 with my Exchange Server 2013 - only the mail items come back to Deleted Items - the original folder is not restored.

The Recoverable Items folder resides in the non-IPM subtree of each mailbox. The non-IPM subtree is a storage area within the mailbox that contains operational data about the mailbox. This subtree isn't visible to users using Outlook, Microsoft Office Outlook
Web App, or other email clients.
I would refer you on this informative technet gallery that will help you to understand this concern in depth and recover the entire folder into previous used version back :https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee364755%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
Also, please check this another helpful resource :https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff660637%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx

    circumstance.

  • Is it possible to prevent users from using the ''Purge'' option from the ''Recover deleted items'' in Office 365?

    Hi,
After speaking with a Microsoft engineer over the phone, I've been told that there is no way to prevent users to go to their OWA and manually Purge specific items from the ''Recover deleted items''. The Microsoft tech told us to place the desired mailboxes
on a litigation-hold and that all data will be recoverable... but only from the time you place the mailbox onto Litigation-Hold and previous items, which doesn't take effect for new-coming emails.
1- From what I understand, any new items coming in the mailbox after the Litigation-Hold is put in place will still be ''purgeable'', right?
2- Is there a way (PowerShell, Security group, etc.) that can prevent a user from using the Purge option?
We are very surprised that there is absolutely no thread that talks about this issue, which in our opinion, is a major legal and security flaw from Office 365. This is a main concern for us to actually go with Office365. For instance, this means that at
any given time, if a user exchanges emails with a competitor, they can manually purge emails sent and receive as soon as it is sent/received, even after Litigation-Hold is in place.
Thank you for your reply and let us know if you have more questions.
Normand Bessette, IT support technician, Newad Media

    Thank you for the reply.
Is there still a way to prevent users from using the Purge option, like with a Powershell script to disable Purge?

  • Public folders recover deleted items

    1) do public folder databases have a "recover deleted items" option, as standard mailboxes do? i.e. if a user inappropriately deletes an item from public folders, can it be recovered easily, or would it need to be recovered from a backup?
    2) how can you get a report of which users can add files to the public folder databases, and which users can delete files/folders in the public folders..

    Hi,
For the first question, yes, user can restore the folder by using "Recover deleted items" within Outlook so long as the item is not over the age of the retention period. If the user is unable to do this for some reason, ExFolders can also be used to recover
    public folder items.
For the second question, you can use the
Get-PublicFolderClientPermission cmdlet to retrieve the user permissions for a public folder. For more information about public folder permissions, please refer to
    Understanding Public Folder Permissions.

  • Recover deleted mail folders?

By accident, of course, I just deleted two folders from iMail. I haven't done anything yet--haven't closed the program--is there a way to recover these folders? Thanks for any help.

    What is iMail?
Since it isn't possible to delete mailboxes with or from the iPhone's mail client, are you referring to the Mail application on your Mac?
If so, you posted this in the Mail, Contacts and Calendar discussions area for the iPhone.
Unless you maintain a regular backup, the deleted mailboxes are gone. You can try a data recovery utility, but you should shut down your Mac or use it as little as possible before using a data recovery utility. The more you use your Mac before doing so, the greater the chances the area on your computer's hard drive where this data was stored will be overwritten preventing or making recovery difficult by any means.

  • Recovering deleted mail folders

I did a search about this topic and the threads had all been archived, meaning I could not post a reply. Sorry if this is redundant to some of you.
I had been manually sorting mail into folders based on senders. Today, I realized that I could use a Smart Mailbox to do automatically what I had been doing manually. I set up the Smart Mailboxes with the desired parameters, then deleted the folders into which I had been manually sorting the mail. I was horrified to discover that the Smart Mailbox did not recognize that mail - once I deleted the original folder, it was gone forever.
I've checked on the .Mac server for the deleted messages, but the folders there were deleted too. In an old thread about mail recovery, a user posted links to freeware on MacUpdate that would recover deleted mail, among other things. Unfortunately, both of the programs were demos; I would have to purchase the full program to recover my mail.
Is there a way to recover these messages? They were very important to me as many of them are from my fiancee.
    Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Your problem occurred because "Smart Mailboxes" are saved searches, not real mailboxes, just like Smart Folders in Finder. So when you deleted the mailboxes, you deleted the actual message they contained, which is why the "Smart Mailboxes" could no longer find them.
Unfortunately, if they are not on the server, the only way to recover some of them is with an application that specializes in rescuing deleted files from the hard drive, since deleted files are not immediately overwritten but the drive space they use is simply marked as available for use for future writes.
Because of this, if you want to use one of these utilities, you must stop using the Mac immediately, since continued use will overwrite at least some of your missing message fragments.
There are no free utilities of this type. Balance the cost of one of them vs. the importance of recovering at least some of your messages & proceed from there.

  • How to recover deleted folder

When deleting one mail folder another folder was also deleted and there was no undo, how do you keep this from happening and is there any way to recover the folder? Thanks, Jim

It’s hard to know what the problem could be with the information you’ve provided.
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/ and check whether the mailbox is still there, just inaccessible for some reason. Also, have you tried searching for those messages in Spotligth?
Messages deleted as a result of deleting the mailbox that contained them don't go anywhere, not even to the Trash. Rather, they are permanently removed from the filesystem.
If the messages are from a POP account configured to leave mail on the server for some time and they are still on the server, there is a way to tell Mail to download them again.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don’t have a backup, your only option in the case of Mail 2.x is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Of these, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.
You should also verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described in the following article, in case there is some filesystem corruption that has a bearing on what happened:

  • Is there any way I can recover deleted pictures from Camera Roll and iCloud? Please please help me. All of my precious pictures are gone that I can never EVER get back. I dont have any iCloud or Camera Roll backup; and my PC can't download more software.

Hi everyone! I'm in need of extreme help. You see, today, two months ago I went out of the country from the United States of America. I took about 1500 pictures ONLY on my iPod touch. When I returned to the United States to my home, I accidentally deleted a little more than 100 pictures. Then, thinking I could get ALL of the pictures back at once, I restored my iPod touch from an iCloud backup I had a couple of days before. Instead of getting all of my pics back, they all got erased. The pictures that I did delete were deleted from Camera Roll AND Photo Stream (iCloud). Then, I was only able to get about 500 pictures back from iCloud. So about 1000 are still gone. When i did the restore, I thought all my pictures would be there, but they weren't and I couldn't possibly figure out why; because a restore from iTunes or iCloud is supposed to restore your device to the settings of the time you backed up your device. All of my other settings were just the way they were supposed tone for the time being, all except my pictures, which contained not one picture in any folder. So EVERYTHING from Cameta Roll was gone, and only about 500 pictures survived. I kept retoring and restoring, hoping they would come back but unfortunately they didn't. Then one time a restored again, I saw all of them back!! But then, within a blink of an eye, they disappeared as soon as I tapped on one picture. Then, I knew they were still in reach, but I just had to find them. Where could those 1000 pictures go? I looked up how to recover deleted photos, but I have to install a software. My computer CANNOT possibly take anymore software on it, my PC is very sensitive and I cannot delete anything off of it. Please please help me. What can I do to get my pictures back? They are memories that I can never EVER EVER get back. Thank you so much.

Please please help me, if you know how.

  • Trying to recover a mailbox from an old Exchange 2003 server

I still have a 2003 server in my environment but all functions and mailboxes are on Exchange 2010. The only reason the 2003 server is still around is for the off chance of requiring a restoration which has now come up. I have successfully restored a
mail store to a recovery storage group but I am unable to export mailboxes from it using exmerge.
    I get the following error:
[10:16:16] Copying data from mailbox 'Jacques Legare' ('LEGARE') on Server 'MAIL-SERVER' to file 'C:\TEMP\LEGARE.PST'.
[10:16:16] Error opening message store (MSEMS). Verify that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service is running and that you have the correct permissions to log on. (0x8004011d)
[10:16:16] Errors encountered. Copy process aborted for mailbox 'Jacques Legare' ('LEGARE').
I have read many, many articles regarding the requirement for “send as” permission. I have granted send as permissions to several different domain accounts and local accounts on the Exchange server but I get the same result with all of them.
It looks like the problem may be because the mailbox no longer exists on the Exchange 2003 server.
So what do I have to do to recover this mailbox? Can I create a mailbox for this user on the 2003 server without messing up his the mailbox on the 2010 server? Instead of restoring to the recovery storage group, should I restore and overwrite the original mailbox
store? Again, will that mess up anything with the 2010 server?

    0x8004011d is permission related Error.
Refer to the link below and download EXMERGE guide which has complete procedure documented.
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/office/Guide-to-Use-Exmerge-to-fd00af49
If the mailbox that need to be restored has to be extracted from RSG is already moved to Exchange 2010 then you will not be able to run exmerge against it.
You might have to update the attribute MsExchOrigMDB on the RSG to point to Exchange 2010 Database where the mailbox is now located.
even this information is enclosed in the EMERGE Guide.
