Recovering Deleted Original Tracks in iTunes

Hi - I'm devastated. My son, wanting to clear up some disk storage space went to to 'All Documents' in the Macintosh HD window and put all the itunes files that were in the trash and then secure deleted them thinking that they had no reason to be in a Documents Folder. Now nothing plays in iTunes and an icon comes up saying that the original needs to be located and asking if I want to locate the original. When this is done the files are not there. What can I do? over a thousand tracks accumulated over the years. The same with my photos in iPhoto, he deleted these as well, but the thumbnail icons are still there. I have the iTune tracks on my iPhone's iPod application but don't dare sync it with computer as I'm worried these will be deleted on iPhone as well. Helppppppppp!

let's put it this way:
whatever you have on your iPod/iPhone can be salvaged with the instructions/tips provided by Zevoneer.
whatever was deleted (and was not backed up !) is gone.
if purchased content was deleted, and is not currently present on your iPod/iPhone, you might want to contact iTunes Customer Support, explain your situation, and ask them nicely if you can re-download your purchases.
all the best !

I have deleted some tracks from iTunes. However, when I sync my iPhone and iPad I get an error message for the tracks I have deleted. It is still trying to sync them.
How do I stop this happening?

Did you dlete it form iTunes and then sync?
Did you try swipingleft or right the song on the iPod and then tapping the delete button that comes up?

  • How to find original tracks in iTunes to delete

I use a MicroMemo with iTunes and 80GB G5 iPod. Once recorded, I convert recordings to AAC then delete the originals which are about 700MB in size each. Lately I accidentally clicked the "Keep files in iTunes Folder" option when deleting them from the iTunes Library instead of sending them "to Trash" to totally get rid of them. Now I want to find those tracks and put them into Trash once and for all. How can I find them?

Open your iTunes Music Folder in the Finder and type the file extension you are looking for into the search box (like .mp3). It will list all of the files that fit that criteria. If you need more refined search capability, click on the little "+" next to the "Save" button and choose from the list of criteria. The Other... option will allow you to choose just about any metadata criteria, but it may take a while to load.
Once done, you can save the search so you can use it again, if needed.

  • Can't delete some tracks from iTunes Library

I am having trouble deleting a few files from my iTunes Library. It won't let me even change any information on the track within iTunes. Not a locked file or anything. Please help!

Try swiping across the song - in the songs tab of the Music App - from right to left - to bring up the red delete button.
Note - this is done in the. Music app. Not iTunes.

  • Problems deleting tracks from itunes

I have a Mac, Iphone and Ipad. I have problems deleting tracks from iTunes. The issue I have is that tracks keep coming back. The issue goes something like this:
I delete a track from iTunes. I sync with an IOS device. On sync, iTunes says there are purchased items on the IOS device not present in your library, do you want to import them? I select no, then iTunes imports the tracks anyway! Essentially the track I deleted from iTunes, gets imported back in from an IOS device, every time.
This means I face the situation of having to delete tracks from all 3 devices, to stop them coming back. Am I doing something wrong?

There is a way to do this, kindof. See my post here.
The best way to do this if you want to be able to continue updating the Apple TV with new content would be to buy an external hard disk and keep all your movies (and the secondary library itself) on that disk. Then, when you want to add movies to the Apple TV, you would just connect the external disk, open the secondary library in iTunes, and add the movie into iTunes. The setting here that you need to be aware of is the "Copy to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" setting in iTunes Preferences > Advanced General. So long as this setting is on, any movie file that you add to the secondary library will automatically be copied by iTunes to your external drive. Once you're done syncing the Apple TV, and you verify that the movie file did in fact get copied to the external disk, you can delete the copy from the hard drive in your computer.

  • Restoring Original Track Data

I recently edited the details of a large number of tracks and I want to restore the original data I.e. Artists Name instead of Various Artists as I had changed it to. I thought if I deleted the tracks from ITunes and re imported them this would restore the original track data but it doesn't seemed to have work. I also tried changing the location of the folder I was importing from to see if this would make any difference but it seems wherever I import these tracks from they retain the changed information and not the original...
    Anybody able to help???

It depends whether or not you have iTunes organise the files too. If so it will have renamed the files to match the new information, otherwise you can use a tagging tool to reset the tag from the file properties such as filename (Track No./Name), folder name (Album), parent folder name (Artist).

  • Can you batch rename tracks in iTunes for Mac?

I want to do a sequential track naming, but I can't figure how to do this and the Doug's applescript isn't working - it renames my FILES instead of the TRACKS!
These tracks are from an audiobook on CD, and it's tiresome to have to search for the "part" when all the tracks are numbered 1-99 and the only thing keeping them from being in the wrong order is the fact that I told iTunes the disc order in the 'Get Info' menu. It wouldn't be so hard on the MacBook, but I usually listen to these on my iPhone, and scrolling through literally hundreds of tracks takes forever, and sometimes I STILL can't find which track was playing last!
I've done a batch rename using an Automator workflow setup I found on the web, but I can't find anything that lets me actually rename the tracks. I've even deleted the tracks from iTunes, renamed the files, deleted the faulty script that screwed things up, and it STILL comes up with the weird numbers and track numbers and renames the files in Finder!!!
I'm getting really frustrated with this and don't want to have to rename tracks by hand because that takes HOURS.

    Hi,
Here is an AppleScript example of how to rename tracks in iTunes :
display dialog "What will be the base name?" default answer "Track "
set baseName to text returned of the result
set n to 1 -- the starting number
    tell application "iTunes"
repeat with thisTrack in (get selection) -- rename selected tracks
set name of thisTrack to baseName & n
                set n to n + 1
          end repeat
    end tell
Without more information, I can not make script specific to your needs.

  • Recover lost deleted corrupted music files tracks from iTunes match icloud

Just spent an hour on Apple's tech suypport line, all to figure out how to recover lost/deleted/corrupted music files/tracks from iCloud / iTunes Match.  Here's how to do it:
ASSUMPTIONS:  You're in iTunes on your computer, logged into your iCloud account.
Within iTunes, in the left-hand pane, select your Music library.  Alll your tracks should appear in the right-hand pane.   Those that are missing from your disk should be marked with an asterisk icon to the left of the track.    Do the following...
...select all the missing/lost/deleted tracks (using the option button), and hit the delete button.
NOTE:  when the delete dialog box comes up, make sure you do ***NOT*** click the "Delete from iCloud" selection!!!
...once deleted, select all the same tracks again, then hit the right mouse button, then select "Download".
All the tracks should start downloading, one by one, from iCloud.
NOTE:  If I were you, I'd perform this operation on discrete chunks (no more than 500 at a time), just to be safe.
    Good luck!

You can also recover the missing tracks from the backup you are keeping on an external HDD. You are backing up, aren't you?

  • Delete Track from iTunes Library if in User Playlist

    Hello
I want to delete [music] tracks from the main iTunes [10.7] library if they are in a user playlist.
I saw (on dougscripts.com) an approach where the database id was obtained from the track in the playlist and this was then used to delete from the main library.  However, it does not seem to work:
delete (some track of thePlaylist whose database ID is (get database ID of deleteTrack))
returns error -1708 "... doesn't understand the delete message"
I think this is to do with a change to the way in which the main library is referenced, but if anyone can shed some light it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I found out what is happening: the tracks are shared from iCloud - via iTunes Match - which renders them un-deletable by AppleScript!

  • How to recover deleted iTunes music folder

    Hi
I uninstalled iTunes due to performance issues with the intention of using an external hard drive.
Unfortunately I have also deleted the user/music/iTunes folder as well.
It is not in the recycle bin as it was 46gb!
    Can someone please help me?
The laptop is running Vista and I have music on both an iPod Classic and I Phone 4s.
Music is both purchased and cd ripped.
    Many thanks

There are various undelete tools ranging from free, e.g. NtfsUndelete FreeRecover, to expensive which might help depending on how the files/folders were deleted and how much work is involved in recovering them. Either way, the more you do with the drive the less chance they have of being able to recover your data successfully.

Drat, looks like NtfsUndelete was a bait & switch effort, free for a short time to get some favorable write-ups then becoming yet another commercial product with a "Free Download" offer to suck you in.

  • How to recover deleted back-up file(s) from iTunes?

I'm needing to figure out a way to recover back-up files that iTunes removed during the recent install to the update 11.0.1.
I went to back up my phone manually. (Which I've been doing for years) I've never used or enabled auto-sync. Before I start a back-up I re-name my phone in a format like this "iPhone0913" This is to eliminate any confusion. That iTunes might try to interpet as, a duplication of another back-up file. By it having the same name (Which I know it won't but I do it anyway) Before the installation of the new update. I had 8 back-up files all dated and in order with the name designation that I've proivded. For example: 1. iPhone0105 2, iPhone1106 etc. as the numeric designation is for the month and year. So Oct. 2005 was my oldest back up file.
Once the installation/update took place, I plugged my phone in and clicked on back-up to this computer. All was moving along as it should, since this was only a back-up. Not a back-up and restore!! At any rate, I went through iTunes to verify that the back-up was there. (As I always do) And low and behold.. GONE!!
The only back up that was showing, was the back-up of "iPhone0913"  I did'nt go into panic mode at that point. Thinking that maybe iTunes moved or maybe archive the back-ups. I was trying to remain optimistic, but I knew there was'nt much that could be down. But maybe, I'm missing something.. I was able to locate 4 of 8 back up files. Only because I had backed them up from another drive.
I don't have Windows System Restore, enabled, So I was'nt able to recover that way. I'm still beside myself that this even took place.
At this point, I'm looking for any recommendations, sympathy.
Thanks in Advance for your help and support!

  • Can't delete metadata for multiple tracks in iTunes 12

Hi. I have about 20 tracks in iTunes and I want to delete the metadata on all of them at once, something I've done a thousand times on prior versions of iTunes. I select the tracks, hit Apple-I, and make global changes, i.e. deleting all the track numbers or clearing out the composer box, etc. But now, it's not happening. I click into the box, hit Delete, the grey dash will disappear, but when I go to another box, the dash returns and when I leave the Info dialog, the boxes aren't empty.
However, when I do the same thing to the tracks individually, it works.
Is there an extra step that I'm missing, one that's new to iTunes 12?
    Thx!

Same issue.  The error says not enough space for me -- go to settings to alter. Takes me to storage -- and the video is not listed as using storage!
I have 8 episodes stuck there -- some even play -- but none will swipe to delete.  To test I did swipe to delete a video podcast -- no problem.  Just my TV Shows seem to be permanent fixtures.
Connected to the computer to see what ITunes showed as installed TV Shows on the device -- nothing there...!!!
