Recovering deleted photos with Time Machine

Hi,
I've recently deleted some photos I had in Aperture (deleted from the event and then cleared the recylcing bin). I do however have and run Time Machine but I can't seem to get hold of the lost files.
Essentially all I need to know is where is the "trash" folder in the Aperture directory?
If it helps to explain the issue, here is the sequence of events:
1) Downloaded photos into Aperture
2) Moved some photos into the trash bin
3) *Time Machine Syncs"
4) I empty trash
When I run time machine at the moment in the aperture library, I can only see the not-deleted photos as expected based on the above events.
Any ideas on how I can recover the photos if it's at all possible?
Thanks
Adam

There is no Trash bin in the Aperture library package, where you can access the image files.  But until you actually empty Aperture's Trash, the image files will remain in the Masters folder inside the Aperture library, package exactly where they have been stored after importing. Aperture only indexes them differently in the database files.  If you still know, the exact date when you imported the missing photos, ctrl click the Aperture Library package in the Finder, use "Show Package Contents" and open the "Masters" folder. Open the subfolder for the year of the import, the month, the day:
With this Finder window selected, enter Time Machine and look for the missing photos in that folder.
If you emptied Aperture's trash, the files will have been moved to the Trash on the Desktop. Look for it there in your Backup.

    How to restore a single Photo with time machine in Aperture 3 / iphoto?

    Its been awhile since I used iPhoto, but I have done it.
    If I recall correctly this is how.
    In iPhoto open event that you need to restore the photo to ( the event that originally contained it )
    Then open TM it should show that same event and then go back in time until you find the missing shot
    Highlight the one you need to restore and tell TM to restore it.
    Good luck

  • Saving photos with Time Machine

    I want to be able to delete a lot of old photos from my computer after backing them up with Time Machine onto an external hard drive. I want to keep all of my old photos permanently on the external hard drive that I use when backing up. If Time Machine deletes old back-ups then eventually it will delete the photos that I want to keep won't it? How can I get around this?

    Yes, that's right.
    How can I get around this?
    You should save them elsewhere, e.g. another hard drive dedicated to archiving your photos, or you could burn them to DVDs. If your Mac has an optical drive, burning optical media is quite simple.

  • Recover Chrome bookmarks with Time Machine?

    I mistakenly deleted all my Chrome bookmarks from my hard drive. I recently backed up the hard drive with Time Machine, though.
    I've searched through Time Machine files, including Application Support and Cache folders, and cannot find any Chrome User Data or bookmark.html files, though.
    Please help me locate my lost bookmarks!

    Okay, I've made some progress. I found the Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak files in the "Default" folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/  when hooked up with Time Machine -- there are not any "Profile" folders in the Time Machine backups. Maybe Google changed the configuration of Chrome.
    But the Bookmarks file is not an html file; it's written in this kind of code:
       "checksum": "0292355746520f0e959c085ba2d8ed83",
       "roots": {
          "bookmark_bar": {
             "children": [ {
                "date_added": "13033558603967151",
                "id": "16981",
                "name": "Forecast",
                "type": "url",
                "url": "http://forecast.io/#/f/35.6009,-82.5540"
    So, now my question is: How do I convert the Bookmarks file into an html file so I can import it into Chrome?
    Thanks...

  • HT1338 How to restore iphoto photo with Time Machine?

    I am trying to restore a single photo in iPhoto from Time Machine.
    I open up iPhoto, then upen up Time Machine. When Time Machine launches, it opens up my desktop, not iPhoto.
    I have seen videos of people doing this, but I cannot get Time Machine to open up iPhoto.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Apple used to support restoration of photos via the iPhoto interface with Time Machine, but has halted this support. I believe the reason was the feature was corrupting people's libraries, but I cannot be certain. Your options here are to restore either the entire library or manually go into the library in the Finder and use Time Machine to browse through file histories that way. Alternatively you can access the Time Machine backup directly in the Finder and manually copy the needed files out of it (do not restore in this way, but instead copy to the Desktop and then re-import the image as a new photo).

  • How do I recover deleted notes from Time Machine?

    Ok, I was away on a business trip for 3 weeks.  While in the hotel, I was looking at my notes on my iPhone (I use iCloud with notes on an iPad, iPhone and Mac Mini running OSX Mavericks and time machine backups).  I noticed iCloud had duplicated a couple of notes.  I deleted the duplicate of each.  Then the next time I went to check, any trace of those notes were gone.
      I'm looking to figure out how to restore them  with Mavericks. With Mountain Lion, it was fairly easy to go in to the mail folder in time machine, but now that notes are seperate from Mail, I'm having trouble figuring this out.
      Thanks

    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
    User Library is hidden by default.

  • How to Recover Safari Tabs with Time Machine?

    I was using Safari and had four browser pages open and each had about 10 tabbed websites. I had quit Safari for the evening myself with the intent of returning the next day and opening Safari and selecting History > Reopen All Windows From Last Session. I do this from time to time and it works fine. Unfortunately, another household member had opened Safari, used it for a while and then quit it. Now the only windows I can recover from the last session are the ones he had open and used. Mine are gone.
    This is not a huge disaster but I had some sites in my tabs that will not be easy for me to find again. Is there a way I can use Time Machine to recover the four windows and roughly 40 tabbed websites I had been using? Time Machine has been on and working.
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

    Ha, I've solved my own problem! I restored the following file from Time Machine and now I have my old Safari pages and tabs back from "my" previous session. Worked like a charm.

    I know this sounds stupid but I cannot see my photos when using time machine. I click on Iphoto library but nothing happens. What am I supposed to do? I can view my documents but not my photos.

    Is there any way to actually view backed up photos on an external hard drive? I'm backing up photos with a new Macbook running Snow Leopard, but I'd like to be able to view the photos from other (older) computers using the same hard drive. How can I view the actual files? Or do I need to export them to the hard drive in a different way?

  • Restore single photo with time machine

    I have iPhoto '09, and Snow Leopard.  According to: http://pondini.org/TM/15.html , I should be able to restore a single photo from my backup drive using Time Machine.  Suggested procedure according to the web site is as follows:  start iPhoto, start Time Machine, locate desired photo, click "restore".
       Unfortunately, at this point my macbook pro freezes (hangs) and becomes nonresponsive, and I have to institute a hard shut down.

  • How do I recover lost files off my external WD Passport hard drive with Time Machine?

    I have been backing up my Macbook Pro with Time Machine and my Western Digital Passport since May 2010. I accidentally deleted my music in February of 2011, but had backed it up with Time Machine. Now when I try to go back and recover the files in Time Machine, they are gone. Nothing is available past June 2011. How do I recover those files?

    About TM "Backup Drive is Full"
    Alert TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
    So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
    Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
    Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.

  • HT201250 I've just used an external drive to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I have Lion, but didn't click and check the "Encrypt Backup Disc". What should I do? Can I delete the external drive and start again, or can I encrypt later?

    I've just used an external drive to back up my Mac with Time Machine. I have Lion, but didn't click and check the "Encrypt Backup Disc". What should I do? Can I delete the external drive and start again, or can I encrypt later?

    I guess if stolen or lost it would protect my "stuff", and if I'm travelling would protect my privacy.
    You must understand the purpose and implications of encryption before deciding whether to use it.
    Encryption locks your data with a password. If you forget that password, the data is lost beyond any chance of recovery. Neither Apple nor anyone else will be able to help you recover that data if you don't know the password.
    By the same token, the password must be strong enough to provide the security you want. For example, if you're the potential target of industrial espionage by a government or large corporation, you need the strongest possible password. To create and manage such a password safely is a task in itself, not to be undertaken lightly.
    If you're only concerned about casual snooping by someone with no special skill, a weak, easily-remembered password is appropriate.
    But regardless of the strength of the password, if you lose it, the data is gone forever.
    Another point to remember is that if you encrypt your data on one storage device, you must also encrypt it on all other storage devices that would be accessible to the same attacker. Otherwise the data isn't protected. For example, if you keep your computer and your backup drive in the same room, and the internal drive of the computer is not encrypted, then there's no point in encrypting the backup drive.
