Recovering DHCP Address Reservations

Homehub 2.0 - Firmware 4.7.5.1.83 (Type B)
Over a period of time I have had a number of devices connected to the HH and they all got their IP address via DHCP on the router. Some of these devices had the option "Always use this IP address", but it is now the case that a number of these are no longer connected or in my possession and their DHCP reservations are still active.
So my question is, can these DHCP reservations be recovered or disabled without the device being connected or forcing a factory reset?

Well, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at the lack of responses in two and a half months. This may show that those that do know an answer are the network professional types that I have encountered in the past who choose to keep the information to themselves for fear of giving the "secrets" away; or that there is genuinely no answer and goes to prove what a piece of **bleep** the HH is in terms of administration restrictions. Either way, as soon as I can, the HH is being consigned to the WEEE Bin in favour of a router that implements features and function in a more professional and industry standard manner and provides better administration options.

  • OS X 10.6.7 not getting reserved DHCP address from router.

    I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.7
    My router is NetGear WGT624v3.  I have the router setup to assign out reserved DHCP address for my Macs.
    I am not getting the reserved address, but rather "any" address in the pool.
    Other types of devices are getting the reserved address.  For example, old windows computers, and my Android phone.  Only the Mac computers seem to be getting the incorrect addresses.
    Any ideas please?

    As long as it shows up in the Windows Boot Camp control panel I'd say fine, happened to a lot of people - I have not had Windows 7 show in Mac Startup Disk control panel for years in my Mac Pro.

  • New Time Capsule: Assign DHCP address and backup to USB disk?

    Hi all,
    I am setting up a new Time Capsule and have two questions:
    - I am successfully backing up my MacBook Pro to the internal TC disk. I like loooong backup histories, so I would like to backup my iMac to a separate Time Machine disk attached to the TC via USB. I have googled and not found anyone saying it can be done. I have attached a USB disk and tried to configure TimeMachine to see it, but it is invisible. Is this even possible?
    - I want to assign a specific IP address to a Linux server (Ubuntu Jaunty) on the internal network of the Time Capsule. I can get a "random" DHCP address assigned, but I cannot get a specific one assigned. I have tried to create DHCP Reservations for the Linux box using both its MAC address as well as the DHCP client ID (preferred). No matter what, I still get the random DHCP address. On the linux box, I have made sure to set the Client ID as well as removing the old leases file. Any hints?

    That is not possible with Time Machine.
    Time Machine will backup any files residing on your Mac or residing on any disk connected via USB or FireWire directly to your Mac.
    Time Machine will NOT backup files residing on a network drive like the USB drive connected to a Time Capsule.
    I want to assign a specific IP address to a Linux server (Ubuntu Jaunty) on the internal network of the Time Capsule.
    The default settings of the Time Capsule use the addresses 10.0.1.2 to 10.0.1.200 for DHCP clients. If you want this server to have a fixed IP address, simply configure the server to have a manual IP address in the range 10.0.1.201 to 10.0.1.254.

  • AEX fails to get DHCP address, but works on DLink

    Sorry for the long post -- I'm hoping the details will help you diagnose the problem faster in the long run.
    My DLink router gets a DHCP IP address from the (Comcast) cable modem, but when I switch to the AirPort Extreme (5th gen, refurbished), it doesn't. It shows an autoconfiguration IP address of the 169.254 variety, suggesting that DHCP isn't working for the AEX. (Just fyi, my girlfriend's macbook can connect to the AEX and get 10.0.1.x IP addresses; I can ping the AEX over wifi.)
    Airport Utiltiy shows a red number 2 with a single error indicating Internet failure to get IP address or something. The suggested solution is power-cycling the modem; failing that, contact the ISP. Contacting Comcast was amusing but useless...they gave me instructions for setting up AEX with a DSL modem -- twice -- without understanding my objection!
    The AEX is configured for DHCP (not Static or PPPoE), and uses all stock settings (I did both a soft reset and used the Airport Utility to restore default settings...not sure if those two are the same).
    I've tried power-cycling the router and cable modem numerous times, including leaving them off for 15+ minutes and leaving the AEX connected for 6+ hours. I tried using the DLink to release the DHCP reservation and then quickly switching the cable over to the AEX.
    I read somewhere that resetting the "CMTS (cable modem termination system)" might help. I mentioned it to the Comcast tech support, but they didn't respond.
    At this point, I'm not sure what else to try. It could be the refurbished unit is broken, but 95% of the time these sorts of things are configuration issues. (I know a fair amount about networking, but I'm new to Apple products so I could be doing something stupid.) I may try connecting the AEX to the LAN side of the DLink to see if it can get a DHCP address from that...but I'm clearly grasping at straws.

    Update: The AEX does get a DHCP address when connected to the LAN side of the DLink gateway. (But the AEX doesn't get one when connected directly to the cable modem. Yet the DLink gets a DHCP address when connected to the cable modem.) So...??!?!!!

  • DHCP Lease Reservations in Prime IP Express 8.2

    How are enterprise customers keeping track of DHCP Lease Reservations in terms of a description for the device for which the reservation has been created?
    In an enterprise, healthcare environment, we make reservations for say - medical vendor equipment.  Like many organizations, we have long used an access database containing entries with MAC, IP, description of the device, date created, etc. 
    CNR customers since versions 2.0 through 6.3.3.  Presently migrating to Prime IP Express 8.2.  We would like to get rid of our access database/tables and rely exclusively upon features/functions in 8.2.  As best I can tell, there's no facility to provide a description - in addition to MAC, IP address, lookup key - for a given reservation.  Guessing it isn't in the RFCs. 
    Do other enterprise customers have this requirement?  Thoughts on how they're handling it?  Maintain separate information sources in addition to DDI system itself?

    Thanks for the reply, Chris.  Often, the equipment doesn't participate in our DNS.  Vendor just needs an IP address.  May or may not even DHCP to get it.  We wish to create the reservation in DHCP, so it doesn't "get stepped on" down the road.  And, we wish to document the assignment in DHCP.  
    Maybe the Prime IP Express team will have some ideas

  • Lion Server not handing out DHCP addresses to Snow Leopard client

    I have been pulling my hair out over this.
    Here is the layout
    Lion Server running on the newest Mac Mini and doing mail, DNS, DHCP, Software update and has a valid, not self assigned, certificate
    3 clients running Lion Desktop (2 iMACs and a MBP pro (all no more that a year old and all woth the current updates)
    1 client running Snow Leopard Desktop (last years 13 inch MBA)
    The 3 Lion clients can get dhcp fro mthe Lion server without any issue
    The SL client cannot get a DHCP address from the Lion server
    A tcpdump shows the DHCP request coming from the MAC address of the SL client but no response from the Lion Server and nothing showing a deny in the logs for the DHCP server or any other system/kernel logs. The Lion clients all show the request and reply for them. All 4 clients currently have a static assignment in DHCP but even if I remove them all and do auto-assign for everything or even each one individually, the SL client will not get an address both on the Wifi and Ethernet (I have the USB ethernet adapter).
    I also have an Aiport Extreme and if I use that for the DHCP server then all clients get the addresses. I know the DHCP server in the extreme cannot be shut down but if you give the extreme a static address then assign dhcp on the extreme to only give out one address and that is the same one that is statically assigned then it "thinks" it is out of addresses and no longer tries to assign addresses
    At first I thought there was a conflict between the extreme and the Lion server but as I mentioned above, tcpdump clearly shows the requests going right to the Lion server
    I'm usually pretty good at this kind of thing but this one has me stumped. I'm thinking bug, anyone else run into this yet?

  • How can we get Sun Ray DHCP address in Windows XP?

    We need the DHCP address (served by Windows) of our Sun Rays as a variable in our Windows XP session (served by VDI 3 / vBox 2.0.10). Customer wants to use this for a windows script which maps the room printer to the Sun Rays Windows XP session. So the user can get always the room printer automatically mapped as the default and don't need to choice the right printer. How can we do this and will this work wor hotdesking too?

    currently you can not use SGD and Sun VDI on dual monitors. There is a Request for Feature Enhancement to provide this feature in a future version.

  • 2611XM refuses to grab a DHCP address from an upper router.

    HI, first time here. Im a homeschooled student and trying to work on getting a CCNA. I ran into an issue which puts me in a stopping point. I have a Cisco 2611XM router in which im trying to pass internet traffic to a few select computers. The problem is the WAN (fa0/1) will not get an address from the d-link router which is handing out dhcp addresses to all my computers in the main network. Ive watched lots of youtube videos but only to validate Ive used the same methods they did. SO here is a quick run down of the topology.

    As you can see my network splits off from the dlink into what needs to be 2 networks.

  • Linksys E2500 Rounter and DHCP Addressing

    Recently Bought a new Linksys E2500 Router to replace my D-Link router and move to Wireless N Speeds.  Was having problems with the D-Link and the Client Machines getting a 192.168.203.x DHCP Address (never did figure this out).  No idea where this address was coming from and the Client Machine Wireless Connection to the D-Link was getting spotty at best.  Client Machines include a Sony Laptop with a Aethos(sp?) network card, a Dell M4600 with Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Card, a MAC Book (not sure about the Network Card) , a couple of Workstations (HP and Home Built) and Samsung and Panasonic Network TV's.  I am once again seeing this 192.168.203.x Network address being "given" to the client machines every once in a while.  Some of them are actually wired and some are wireless, either of which can get this IP Address Subnet.  Why?  Where is this coming from?  I could see this happening to the wireless clients possibly from another wireless network and crossing over, maybe (which is one of the reasons I replaced the Router).  The Wired Clients getting this address I just don't understand how.  The problem went away for about 2 weeks after I replaced the D-Link with the new Linksys Router, but now seems to have resurfaced.  Is this somehow coming from the Time-Warner Motorolla Modem for the Cable Internet?  How do I fix this?  How can I figure out where this is coming from?   I've tried using Wireshark to isolate what is going on, but can't figure out the right parameters to isolate the issue.

    On a computer, which gets the wrong IP address, open a command prompt window, enter "ipconfig /all" and post the full output.
    How did you connect the E2500 to your modem? Which port did you use?
    Which public IP address do you see on the status page of the E2500?

  • WLC 7.0.230.0 - Incorrect DHCP addresses being allocated by internal DHCP server

    Background:
    Initially there were 3 SSIDs configured but all of them were assigned a single interface and this interface was configured with the controller management IP address as DHCP server so that the WLC could assign IP addresses to wireless clients, guns and printers etc.
    Issue:
    As part of PCI initiative, we decided to segment the traffic in multiple subnets based on type of wireless clients; so now there are 3 interfaces configured and each SSID is assigned a specific dynamic interface and each interface is configured to use the controller management IP address as DHCP server.
    There are 3 scopes configured for each of the dynamic interfaces/SSIDs and DHCP proxy is enabled but wirelss clients are still being allocated IP addresses from the original DHCP scope that was associated with the dynamic interface originally assigned to all 3 SSIDs.
    What am I missing here?
    I verified the following:
    1. Each SSID is assigned a different dynamic interface (Users, Voice and Handhelds)
    2. Each dynamic interface is configured to use controllers management IP address as DHCP server
    3. DHCP scopes configured with correct network information for each dynamic interface and enabled

    As mentioned in my first post, I am using the management interface IP address of the controller as the DHCP server in the configuration of all the dynamic interfaces.
    I have not configured the override DHCP option in the WLAN configuration becuase I have specified the internal DHCP address in the dynamic interface.
    But I did check the AP group configuration and there I found that the SSID is not assigned to the correct dynamic interface even if the WLAN configuration is correct.
    I will change the AP group configuration to correct this. Thanks!

  • 1142 Autonomous AP not passing DHCP address to clients

    Hi there,
    I do hope someone can help me out here because I am having a nightmare with a single AP.
    Setup is as follows:
    5 existing APs already on site, all working correctly plugged into a 48 port 2960, (non poe).
    customer wants to add another AP to extend capacity.
    Installed AP, (config attached) mirrored switchport settings, (below) and fired it up.
    Outcome: if you are on a static IP or have received DHCP through another AP then everything works as it should. But DHCP requests are never fulfilled if connected through this AP. (this goes also for a laptop with an existing DHCP address if you go through the \release \renew process) DHCP is served by a server living on the switch.
    The AP lives on VLAN 2, hence native .2 on both ends, and wireless clients should recieve a VLAN 1 address. All the other APs, (1131s) are working without a problem and this is driving me NUTS! Have been through configs and every screen of the GUI but cant find any difference in set up. Apart from different AP models the new one is on a pwrinj4 while the others are on pwrinj3's.

    Yes, the only difference is as this is a 1142 I was instructed to put it onto one fo the Gb ports. I tried the Ap on a known working port to rule out switch config to no effect.

  • VWLC clients getting DHCP address from management VLAN

    Hi,
    We have a strange scenario whereby some wireless employees are obtaining addresses from the management VLAN.
    Some details:
    DHCP managed by MS DHCP 2008 R2 (in remote data centre)
    Cisco vWLC AIR-CTVM-K9 running v7.6.110.0
    AP's are a mix of 2602 and 3702 (46 and 2 of each respectively)
    SSID's are employee, guest, and production devices (all mapped to their own interface with relevant VLAN tag as per normal)
    AP's all in FlexConnect mode as per vWLC caveats
    Some employees are receiving addresses in the wireless management VLAN. This network only has six DHCP addresses available as it is solely for AP's, WLC and HSRP gateway. Obviously this gets exhausted very quickly leaving us with a scenario where clients are not obtaining DHCP addresses.
    I understand that with FlexConnect mode, it will assign IP's from the native VLAN. What I don't understand is why most clients receive addresses in the correct VLAN, but a handful do not, and then cannot get an address from DHCP. Obviously the ideal scenario would be to put the AP's into local mode but unless this has changed in a SW release then I don't believe it's possible...
    My question is: How do I get ALL the employees to obtain addresses from their interface and not the management VLAN?

    I think we need a closer look to your configurarion to eliminate some possibilities:
    - What is the WLAN security you choose?
    - What is the interface that is configured under the WLAN?
    - Does your WLAN have local switching enabled?
    - If your security is using RADIUS server, do you have AAA override enabled under the WLAN config?
    - If your security is using RADIUS server, do you send any attributes to the users?
    - You have eliminate that clients that got management vlan IPs are always on same AP or they can be on any AP.

    setup: Mac server 10.6.8, VPN service L2TP, Airpot Extreme software fully updated in company LAN set to DHCP: IP range is 10.0.0/24, DHCP service is OFF in server admin...

    I noticed sometimes when I VPN into my company network via L2TP (which I do IT support for) that someone on the company LAN gets a notice that another device on the network is using the same IP as their machine.
    All clients in the company LAN are set to DHCP and the remote connecting Mac is set to DHCP, and the remote LAN is a different network than the company LAN.
    This instance once interrupted remote server access (via VPN) because the remote connecting client somehow attain the IP of the companys' Drobo File server , which itself has a manual IP.
    Do I need to set the VPN IP range to a different scope than the company DHCP range? ie. Company DHCP range (in AE) to 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.200 and in VPN IP range settings 10.0.0.201 - 10.0.0.254
    Is there a setting I've missed?

    Yes, You need TWO pools of IP addresses in your LAN.
    One is kept by the DHCP server and addresses from this pool are assigned to DHCP clients on the LAN.
    The other range is handled by the VPN server and clients connecting to the VPN are assigned one of these addresses. VPN clients do NOT get a DHCP address from the LAN DHCP server.

    When I connect the router to the net and click the refresh button on the browser interface, the router doesn't go out and get a dhcp address. I see the initial click of the mouse that hits the modem but no information comes back. No addresses are updated.
    I have tried cloning the mac address but that does no good either.
    Any hints appreciated.

    Try resetting the router for 30 secs in such a way that power light is blinking on the router.Also, try doing the complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router.Then, plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid on the modem you could plug in the power cable to the router & then try configuring the router & it will definately work!!!
