Recovering Domain Controller in Exchange 2010 environment.

Hi Friends,
We have one windows 2008 Domain controller & one Exchange 2010 server with all role installed, My problem is if My domain controller failed , how  i can recover it?
Is there ant step for domain controller recovery in Exchange 2010 Environment.?
Thanks & regards,
Pradeep

Hi Pradeep,
Sorry to hear that... The only option you have is to do non-authoritative restore of Active Directory...
From Exchange prospective, once you do restore from an old backup whatever changes you made in Exchange since then won't be there as Exchange keeps all the settings in active directory, for example if you have created users then you would need to recreate
them and attach their mailbox to back to users...

  • Relay issue from Unix across Exchange 2003 OWA server in Exchange 2010 environment

    Hi,
I'm trying to resolve an issue.  We have one Exchange 2003 server left in our environment. The rest is now Exchange 2010.  We are working to decommission this server. Monitoring the SMTP logs, I am working with the various groups to get the traffic
off this server and onto the Exchange 2010 environment.
The issue we are finding is with a work flow. This Java app for eBis sends email to users. This is done correctly through Exchange 2010 and gets delivered from our HUB/CAS servers to the target user mailbox. This email has several links the user must click
for approving or rejecting requests. Upon clicking Approve, a new email window opens (we use Outlook 2010).  The TO address is in the format of [email protected]  Upon clicking Send, our Exchange 2010 HUB/CAS servers accept the
email, because one of our send connectors has, as address space, *.domain.corp.  However, the email address being used it not an alias on any Exchange 2010 mailbox, so it appears Exchange 2010 is sending this email on to the Exchange 2003 server, which
also is an SMTP server.  I *think* this server is looking at the address after @ to determine where to send it (ebisserver.domain.corp, which is valid in our DNS), and sends it on to that server, where the java "listener" program intercepts
the mail, processes it and then saves it to a file somewhere.
We are at a loss as to how to get Exchange 2010 to do this instead of Exchange 2003... once this traffic is eliminted from Exchange 2003, I can proceed with decommission of this server.  Any help troubleshooting this issue is appreciated.

The only reason the Exchange 2010 server would route outbound mail through an Exchange 2003 server is that you have an SMTP Connector defined on the Exchange 2003 server that has a more specific domain than you have on the Exchange 2010 server.  You
should be able to see all your Send Connectors (an SMTP Connector on Exchange 2003 looks like a Send Connector in Exchange 2010) by running Get-SendConnector.

  • Introduce an "passive" Exchange 2013 in Exchange 2010 environment without user or administration impact.

    Hi
We wish to introduce an Exchange 2013 server in our existing Exchange 2010 environment.
The Exchange 2013 server is only needed for migration purposes where we wish to leverage the new features of the migration-batch functionality.
It’s important that the Exchange 2013 server will not have any “visible” impact on the Exchange 2010 environment, or take over any functionality, right now, since the customer wish to stay on 2010.
Can you guys come up with anything to be aware of?
Oblivious we disable the Autodiscover SCP for the Exchange 2013 server, so that the clients will not hit this server. Nor will we point any URLs to the Exchange 2013
I can see that a new “Default Offline Address Book (Exch2013)” is created and set as default when EX2013 is installed. We will change this back to the default EX2010.
The server will properly take part in the Shadow Redundancy feature, and is doesn’t seem to be possible to exclude the server or avoid, unless disabling Shadow Reduncancy.
I can only come up with these 3 things that will have a "direct" impact on the environment, but any input will be highly appreciated!
    BR,
    Martin

    Hi,
I agree with Li Zhen’s suggestion. If you don’t migrate from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, we can disable add services in Exchange 2013 and don’t use it any more.
If you want that the Exchange 2013 server will not have any “visible” impact on the Exchange 2010 environment, or take over any functionality, please keep the published server to pointed to Exchange 2010. Then the original configuration in Exchange 2010
would not be changed to the new configuration in Exchange 2013.
If you want to use Exchange 2013, then we can point the published server to Exchange 2013 and configure the virtual directories in Exchange 2013. Though all mailboxes are still located in Exchange 2010, all external requests would be proxy or redirected
from CAS 2013 TO CAS 2010 automatically.

  • Active Directory domain migration with Exchange 2010, System Center 2012 R2 and File Servers

    Greeting dear colleagues!
I got a task to migrate existing Active Directory domain to a new froest and a brand new domain.
I have a single domain with Forest/Domain level 2003 and two DC (2008 R2 and 2012 R2). My domain contains Exchange 2010 Organization, some System Center components (SCCM, SCOM, SCSM) and File Servers with mapped "My Documents" user folders. Domain
    has about 1500 users/computers.
How do u think, is it realy possible to migrate such a domain to a new one with minimum downtime and user interruption? Maybe someone has already done something like that before? Please, write that here, i promise that i won't ask for instruction from you,
maybe only some small questions :)
Now I'm studying ADMT manual for sure.
    Thanks in advance,

As far as I know, during inter-forest migration, user and group objects are cloned rather than migrated, which means they can still access resources in the source forest, they can even access resources after the migration is completed. You can ask users
to switch domain as soon as the new domain is ready.
    Therefore, there shouldn’t be a huge downtime/interruption.

  • Unable to recover deleted item in Exchange 2010

I'm on Exchange 2010 Sp1 and Outlook 2010. I'm trying to recover a deleted item from the dumpster and when I do I get the following error message.
"Outlook was unable to recover some or all of the items in this folder. Make sure you have the required permissions to recover items in this folder, and try again. If the problem persists, contact your administrator."
I am the administrator and I fairly sure I have been able to do this since migrating my mailbox to Exchange 2010 from Exchange 2003. I've rebooted my PC. Any ideas what is going on?

Thanks for all the suggestions. That's correct. On my second non problematic PC I can login to my mailbox and recover deleted items without any problems. So same mailbox but different computer no problem. Actually I can recover a deleted item on my problematic
PC for other mailbox no problem too.
In regards to Mumin CICEK question my dumpster is set to 30 days. I tried multiple messages. Even messages that I had just deleted and emptied from deleted items. And again I can recover those same messages from another PC no problem.
In regards to the Windows profile may be corrupted I thought about that too. But what is interesting as using the same Windows profile if I login to a different mailbox I don't have any problems either.
I'll try fixmapi.exe as that seems like a good idea.
One last bit of additional information. My Outlook has hung and crashed on me several times of the past. It has happened when I've been connected to differernt mailboxes. From memory the debug mentioned something about a sharing violation. Maybe I should
turn off my anti virus to see if there is a corralation?

  • Cross Domain Resource Booking - Exchange 2010

    Hi Forum,
I am seeking a solution for cross domain resource booking in Exchange 2010. Here is the scenerio:
Parent Company has imported Child Company conf room resources in GAL as contacts. When users in Parent Co. try to book a Child Company conf rm, the meeting request is set to tentative on room calendar and no notification is sent to user. External Messages
are set to allowed to process, and contacts of user accounts exist in Child Company Exchange system. AutoAccept is also set to enabled since these are Resource Objects in Child Company.
Essentially, the room is being added to the meeting invite as a user account and not as a Resource. Is there a way to get this Resource added correctly or to accept Meeting Requests automatically based on availablity? The Conf Room is a contact on Parent
Co. ; can a contact pass Meeting Requests to a Resource correctly?
    TIA.

I have contacts created for all users in Parent Company; I have ProcessExternalMeetngs set to True.

  • Changing Domain Controller for Exchange 2013

    Folks
I have an Exchange 2013 running on Server 2012.
    Old DC on Server 2008.
I want to decommission the 2008 server. I have build a 2012 DC and for the life of can not work out how to change the DC that my exchange box uses????
Using Set-ADServerSettings cmdlet only seems to change the server for that current session?? reboot and back to the old DC...
When I use the Se-ExchangeServer cmdlet, I get domain controller cant be found. I have set the execution policy on the dc to unrestricted and still Domain controlleer cant be found..
    New dc is a GC..
    Any ideas would be good.
    -graham

First, the behavior observed for the cmdlet Set-ADServerSettings is normal. The values for the domain controllers
designated are " per session". For example:
    The PreferredServer parameter
specifies the FQDN of the domain controller to be used for this session.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd298063(v=exchg.150).aspx
    +++
What parameters, exactly, did you use for Set-ExchangeServer? What was the entire command?
If the domain controller(s) were found for "Set-ADServerSettings"
and... if Exchange is functioning OK in general, the domain controllers should be accessible.
    +++
Are you in a position where you could shut down the older server (during off hours for example) and see if Exchange can
find - and use - the newer DC?
Will you only have one DC after decommission of the old one?

  • Renaming Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller with Exchange Server 2013

Is it possible to rename Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller, as we are using Exchange Server 2013 as a member server on Windows Server 2012 ?
We have some issues with the Domain Name, so want to rename..
Maybe somebody knows the best practices how to do this in best way???
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    You should do the following:
    1. Promote another DC.
    2. Transfer FSMO roles to that server.
    3. Decommission old DC.
    4. Rename it.
    5. Promote it again as DC.

  • Migrate Domain Controller include Exchange Server

Beside the above suggestions, you may also walk through this informative technet article that covers almost all the required steps and provides step-wise instructions to accomplish this task in simple way : http://blogs.technet.com/b/chrisavis/archive/2013/10/01/performing-an-in-place-upgrade-of-server-200... When you will be migrating users mailboxes from old server to upgraded server, you can have a look on Lepide exchange manager that would be a suitable approach to get this job done in flawless manner without having downtime.

    Hi everybody !
My company bought a new server and I have schedule to migrate current domain controller ( 2008 R2 ) to new server ( 2012 R2 )
My system has 1 Exchange server which I'm not familiar with. I have experience with migrating DC ( transfer roles / DNS ) but I'm worry about Exchange server. What should I prepare for this case ?

  • Finalising the migration of Exchange 2003 public folders over to an Exchange 2010 environment

After migrating all the user mailboxes, I set up replicas of the Public Folders which I have been running for several weeks.
Once everything had been replicated, using System Manager on the Exchange 2003 server, I removed the source replica server from the list (aka the Exchange 2003 server).
Is this step sufficient to move the replicas over?
Under the First Storage Group -->Public Folder Store do I need to run the
Move All Replicas command? Will this generate a lot of traffic given that I have ran replication for a number of weeks?
I saw somewhere some Exchange 2010 a similar Powershell command  .\MoveAllReplicas.psl  as well.
I have updated the offline address book, carried out the Address List Conversion and Recipient Polices.
If everything is in order, I am going to run the uninstall on the 2003 server.

After verifying that all the public folders are been replicated, I carried out the following:-
On the Exchange 2003 server under System Mangager > First Storage Group, I issued the command Move All Replicas over the weekend.
When I came back in today I could see the contents of the Public Folders
    are now empty.
However, the Public Folder Instances still appears to have content. Is this normal?
On the Exchange 2010 server I have since issued the MoveAllReplicas.ps1 script to see if this will make any difference.
In addition when browsing the Default Public Folders via EMC, if I attempt to Update Content on any of the Public Folders I get the following error:
Cannot start replication against public folder....
    MapiExceptionNoReplicaAvailable: StartContentReplication failed.

We changed also it's password domain, and tried only from OWA, and the emails stays only for a while in inbox (1 minute), and they dissapers.
Exchange is 2010, and other users are running normally.
From user's owa, on the rule settings, there is no rule.
What could I do? how to fix?
    is something on exchange2010 wrong??

    Hi Lasandro,
Since there is only one user has the issue and there is no hidden rules, I recommend you use the following cmdlet to repair the user's mailbox.
Note: While this task is running, mailbox access is disrupted only for the mailbox being repaired. After you begin the repair request, it can't be stopped unless you dismount the database.
New-MailboxRepairRequest -Mailbox [email protected] -CorruptionType FolderView, SearchFolder, AggregateCounts, ProvisionedFolder

  • How to delete Sync Issues folder in outlook -Exchange 2010 environment ?

is there a way to get rid of Sync Issues folder in outlook , I tried out solution with MFCMapi but no luck . Please suggest ?
    Aditya Mediratta

    Hi Aditya,
    Thank you for your question.
By my testing, there are 5 folders which we didn’t delete. It is a system necessary folder.
There are Deleted Items, Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, Sync Issues.
Could you tell me that why you want to delete it? We could hide it by the following methods:
1: In the Bottom of the Navigation Pane you shall find the following Option (Mail, Calendar, Contacts,) Click on the option that says Mail, this will hide the hidden folders.
2: Clicking on the “Folder List” button present at the bottom of the navigation pane (Where we see the folder icon).
3: Incase if you do not see the Option for “Folder list” at the bottom of the Navigation Pane, then please do the following:
At the Top Click on the View Ribbon > Navigation Pane > Options > You will get a Window called “Navigation Pane Options “> Check the Box that says Folder List and move it up the list using the
“Move Up” option. Now you would find the “Folder list “option at the bottom of the Navigation Pane. > Clicking it will Un-hide /Hide the hidden folder visible in the navigation list.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,
