Recovering from an NT Crash (Urgent)

Hi,
we had the 9iAS (V1.0.2.2) running on a Windows NT SP5 machine. The database version was 8.1.7 and it had Portal 3.0.9 running on it. This install hosted a number of applications, portlets (database portlets), content areas and repositories. Recently, the OS of this machine crashed and we were forced to go in for a re-install. After the re-install of the OS, all the oracle directories and the datafiles are intact. Can anyone suggest the path that we should take so that we are able to get our Portal up and running once again

Hi Tao,
We have managed to bring up the database by re-installing just the database server components (without the database) into the same Oracle Home. Now we can connect to the database as the Portal user and query it. However, Apache won't start as the Registry is messed up. So we are planning to do an install of IAS into the earlier home and see if we can bring up the server again. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rupesh

  • I need help in restoring data recovered from hard drive crash to new hard drive

I have the data that was recovered by a recovery service (long story) from my wife's hard drive after it crashed, which is now stored on my computer. There are two user data sets that have been recovered, one for each of us. I need to put each on my wife's computer with its new hard drive, which now has OSX 10.10.? (Yosemite) on it.
My wife's computer was running OSX 10.7 (Lion) when the hard drive failed and my computer is still running OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
I was told that I should use the Data Transfer Utility (starting my computer up while holding the "T" key), but I have forgotten what I have to do when I start up her computer. Are there any operating system compatibility problems that are sensitive to this process?

That is a Microsoft Windows question??  You should probably ask this question on Microsoft's Forums.  BTW there is no "Windows 9".  Only Windows 7, Windows 8 and apparently MS is skipping the number 9 in favor of 10.

  • Recovering From Hard Drive Crash

My iMac's drive recently crashed. Fortunately, I had a pretty good back up plan in place. I have all of the "Home File" data on the back up including all of the iTunes data. I have re-added all of the music and it appears and plays in iTunes on the new drive. What files do I need bring over from the back up to re establish my playlists and preferences? Is this even possible at this point?
    iMac G5 PPC   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

i would recommend using sentui. even though i was VERY SMART of you to back this up, when my mac crashed and i lost all my info, i used sentui. it uses the music on your ipod and puts i back in itunes. playlists and all. and its free.

Please tell me how i can get the database back
I am not a DBA so plese sent your input in simple language

    hi,
    Thank you Raju.
I regret to inform u that yr reply came in a bit late & I had already solved my problem, I am posting my experience for the benifit of others.
I tried out a number of things today.
    One thing clicked
I Installed the oracle server on another machine with the same name.Keep in mind that the drive name should be the same as the previous installation & so must be the DB name & the path as that of the previous installation.
After doing so shut down the oracle instance.
Replace all the control, log and dbf files.
Try to restart the oracle Instance if there is a problem, it might give u a password mis-match error. If u using another login to boot up .
To corect this run the orapwd.exe with the new password & the replace the PWD<databasename>.ora file
try to restart the databse after taking a shutdown .
    This procedure works well.

  • Recover from hard drive crash

I have a Palm TX with information that I must not lose.  My hard drive crashed, and I need to reinstall Palm Desktop.  I downloaded PalmDesktopWin62.exe, but it wants to initially sync by cable.  Due to unexplained incompatibilities, I have exclusively IR sync'ed for a couple of years, and am not sure where the cable is.  If I chose to skip initial sync the installer warns of dire consequences.  How should I proceed?
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Download NVBackup to your SD card and run it!  This will insure your data is safe, then you can experiment all you want.
What OS is on your computer?  If you need Palm Desktop 4.2 (the version that came with your TX) check my "Reading the Manual..." link below.

  • Help!  Advice on recovering from a disk crash, please

My image disk crashed, and is unrecoverable.  I thought that I been backing up regularly but, through nobody's fault but my own, the last 6 months of images weren't properly backed up.  Sigh.
The good new is that my catalog is fine, having lived on another disk, and many of the original images, all raw's, are still intact on various flash cards.  So, my question is, how should I proceed?  Should I re-import them?  Should I copy them by hand, and then help the catalog to find them if it doesn't?  Or, ???
    I'm on a MacOS 10.6.
Thanks much for any help with this!

OK, what I hoped would work does not
But one thing that could simplify bringing your copies from the flash cards into the structure and naming they should be to be recognized by your current catalog:
If you imported them into a temporary catalog, using the same naming and destination folder logic as when you originally imported them, this would bring the files into (or close to) the correct folder structure. Then in the main catalog, they could be reconnected easier if necessary at all. If you did have some kind of a date-based folder structure and did not do too much manual renaming, this should work quite well.

  • How to recover from bad iPhoto crash?

Yesterday iPhoto (running under latest version of Lion on an i7 iMac with 12 GB of RAM) started crashing at launch (one bounce). I held down the option key launched and it still crashes. With time machine I replaced iPhoto with an older one (2 weeks back) and it crashes. I replaced the photo library from a version of 2 weeks ago that I know was working and iPhoto still crashes at launch. I removed the Library>preference files with .iphoto. in them and it still crashes at launch. Does anyone have any idea what other files might be causing this problem? This did happen shortly after I updated iPhoto and Aperture with the new versions that read each others libraries. Aperture works but I also replaced it and its older library but this had no effect on iPHoto.

I really appreciate the help. Here are the first 50 lines or so.

  • Recovering from a disk crash

i experienced a hard disk failure on my MacBook Pro today. at first Safari started complaining it's unable to save bookmarks, then Mail gave errors about not being able to write data. i tried logging out and logging in again with the same account but i got this error:
'You are unable to log in to the user account "aspa" at this time.'
i then logged in as another user and tried to mount user aspa's home directory disk image (which used FileVault). the mount operation failed with the following message:
"The following disk images failed to mount
    aspa.sparseimage corrupt image"
rebooting didn't help either so i booted the system from the installation DVD disc and tried running verify and repair in Disk Utility but both operations failed. verify failed with this message:
    "Verifying volume "Macintosh HD"
    Checking HFS Plus volume
    Invalid record count
The volume needs to be repaired.
Error: Then underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair"
repair operation failed with similar errors. i then booted the system in single-user mode and tried running 'fsck -fy' which again failed:
    "** /dev/rdisk0s2
    ** Root file system
    ** Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Invalid record count
    (3,1)
    ** Volume check failed"
i started the disk in FireWire target mode and tried copying files from the failed disk to another machine but copying failed:
tar: /Volumes/Macintosh HD 1/Applications/...: Read error at byte 17832448, reading 10240 bytes: Bad file descriptor
trying to copy the user's home directory disk image resulted in similar errors.
it appears that there was some sort of error with the root file system which then made the sparseimage brake. i was advised by Apple support to reinstall the operating system which i'm now doing.
the operating system installation took quite a while but it seems to have gone fine. still, i'd like to get some assurance that this problem was not due to a hardware fault. i've run Apple Hardware test which didn't report any errors. are there any good test programs which would test the hard disk for failures? any ideas on whether this was caused by a software or hardware problem?
if i remember correctly, before the re-installation the disk was split into two partitions. i deleted all the partitions prior to the installation to make sure that everything will be wiped out. the installation program didn't re-create the other partition. what is this partition used for? should i recreate it and re-install?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

5 days after I had recieved my mbp, my harddrive failed as well. I did try to reinstall the OS but with no luck. At some point during installation, it would stop telling me to try again. So I took it to the nearest technical service center and they confirmed the hd-failure and replaced it. this was the 80gig @ 5200rpm. but since you were able to reinstall the OS again, you should be fine. have you run the diskutility again?

  • How to recover from a HD crash?

I recently suffered from a hard drive failure due to problems with the known monitor will-not-wake-from-sleep issue. My problem now: Since Garageband came preinstalled on my Mac when I bought it, I have no installation CD or serial number. My new HD does not have any iLife aps on it that I used to enjoy. I may be able to access the hard drive in target mode- just can't boot from it.
Can I pull the software off of the bad HD and reinstall on the new HD? Help?

Don't even need to find the package just put the install disk in and look around I think you click on customize not sure. But there is a option for bundled software and a check list of ilife apps. I think there may even be a install bundled software installer right on the disk.

  • Recovering from laptop Harddisk crash

The harddrive on the laptop that I had itunes on died recently, so I lost all of the music I had in itunes. I replaced the harddrive & re-downloaded itunes from scratch. I still have all of the music on my ipod. My current itunes now has only a few tunes on it. Question is, is there a way to download all of the music on my ipod back to itunes? When I sync my ipod with this new itunes (afraid to try it), what should I expect to happen. I just want to be sure I don't lose all the music on my ipod when I sync it with itunes since none of that music exists on my computor now. Is the sync function in itunes only one-way?
Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Urgent solution to this problem "Attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout failed"

    Hi wonderful people at HP,
I would be glad if you can solve this problem in my system. I want this to be urgent enough because I am graduating by March 1st 2011 and I want many things to be completed on my system.
I have previously purchased warranty with hp for three times for tune out service, software and hardware help but nothing has been materialized, I am sorry to say but I just lost my money.
My system, from the time of purchase, had the same persistent problem of overheating and also heavy noise, I told this to several people of HP but they never seem to respond properly. In fact my friend had a similiar problem in DELL and they responded promptly and sent him a new computer system. I don't know what to do. It will be ok if my system can function for one more month. I WOULD BE GRATEFUL TO YOU IF YOU CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.
        Regards,

    Re your 116 BSOD...
"It's not a true crash, in the sense that the Blue Screen was initiated only because the combination of video driver and video hardware was being unresponsive, and not because of any synchronous processing exception".
Since Vista, the "Timeout Detection and Recovery" (TDR) components of the OS video subsystem have been capable of doing some truly impressive things to try to recover from issues which would have caused earlier OS's like XP to crash.
As a last resort, the TDR subsystem sends the video driver a "please restart yourself now!" command and waits a few seconds.
If there's no response, the OS concludes that the video driver/hardware combo has truly collapsed in a heap, and it fires off that stop 0x116 BSOD.
If playing with video driver versions hasn't helped, make sure the box is not overheating.
Try removing a side panel and aiming a big mains fan straight at the motherboard and GPU.
Run it like that for a few hours or days - long enough to ascertain whether cooler temperatures make a difference.
If so, it might be as simple as dust buildup and subsequently inadequate cooling.
I would download cpu-z and gpu-z (both free) and keep an eye on the video temps

  • MBP not recovering from sleep / Strange 'freezing' crashing...

I'm having a VERY strange issue here.
Over the past week, my MBP (only 4 months old?) has become suddenly unable to recover from sleep. I'll be watching a movie in FrontRow, 'sleep' it from my Apple remote, and then when it re-awakens, the screen fires up but it's black (as in, the backlight is obviously on and drive/fan spins up, but no image on display).
Then, just tonight, I've been working on some websites, nothing too intensive, maybe running iTunes and Safari in the background alongside 'DreamWeaver', and the whole system just FROZE. I can't type, I can't move the cursor, the screen is completely frozen. I kept waiting for the familiar 'kernel panic' screen to appear or something, but I've never seen any Apple machine do this before...
It's kinda worrying as I'm not particularly stressing the machine or anything.... any ideas??

Try setting your SMC controller - especially if its a wake and sleep related issue.

Likewise in Utilities, open 'Console' to look at your logs. There will be diagnostic messages (I hope) about the crash.
You could also run the activity monitor to make sure processes aren't topping out and hogging the CPU.

What version of PS?  If it's CC, just reinstall the CC application manager then PS and sign in.  For an earlier version you will need to call Abobe to have you S/N reset.

My system recovered from a serious error recently. During the error, Firefox crashed. Since I have restarted my system and Firefox, I cannot use any of the toolbar options such as:close, minimise and maximise. Also, when I right click, an outline of a box appears without the visible options although on some occasions they appear after 10 seconds or so. Can you advise me of what to do to cure this problem please or is it a case of using a Windows tool such as System Restore?

I HAVE NOW SOLVED THE PROBLEM BY RUNNING WINDOWS REGISTRY REPAIR TOOL WHICH HAS OBVIOUSLY REPAIRED CORRUPT REGISTRY FILES.
