Recovering image from thumbnail or metadata

Hey there everyone, new poster here.
I'm looking for some help on recovering a file. A rather important piece of digital art from has gone missing, but as it's a couple years old it's unlikely to still be sitting somewhere in the hard drive's free memory. However, I did find an 'Adobe Photoshop file browser metadata cache file' and an 'Adobe Photoshop file browser thumbnail cache file' that have names similar to the original piece of art.
However, can't see a way of opening them. Photoshop tells me it's 'not the right kind of document', and I don't know what other application to use.
So, I ask of you all, do I have any hope of recovering the image? And if so, how should I go about it?
Many thanks,
-J

Your image isn't in them, but go to Get Info to get an app to open them with.

  • Recover Image from Thumbnail after lost file??

    I accidentally saved a number of images at their original location (the CF Card) rather the converting and copying as usual. I have erased the CF card as usual so all I have are the converted Thumbnails. These Thumbnails actually look pretty good, so what I need to know is how to recover a set of workable images from these Thumbnails?
    Any Ideas/Suggestions?
    Thanks for any help.

    There is a whole thread no too far down on just this. Try a forum search on the main list.
    Involves doing a draft print from your preview (1:1 is best) if you generated them.

  • Generating full-size image from thumbnail using BLOB DB images

    Hi all,
    Assuming that all necessary steps were taken in other posts and tutorials to display images on a web page from BLOB objects stored in an Oracle 10g DB, how is it possible to set the size of the created images (from the servlet that creates the image file from BLOB) so that it is smaller than the actual image in the DB. the user would then have to click the image to open the full image.
    would this be done by possibly creating 2 servlets, one that displays a smaller version, and one that displays the actual image?
    i don't see how this can be done since the url property of each image is bound to the url of the servlet. If the thumbnail has a url pointing to image produced by thumbnail servlet, would i assign an action handler for clicking the image that redirects to a url given by the full size image servlet? or should i use an image hyperlink instead?
    any help is always appreciated!

    Suggest you take this one step at a time.
    1. Create a database and store your images in it. (Or write the upload mechanism if you need it).
    2. Display your full size images.
    3. Display your full size images as thumbnail size. (Performance will not be good but you'll have results.) Creator allows you to set image size independantly of the size of the underlying image.
    4. Modify the servlet you wrote in step three to optionally reduce the resolution (or quality) based on an input parameter.

  • Retrieve lost images from thumbnails?

    Hi there,
    I have a number of referenced images in my library, the originals of which were held on CD. Unfortunately the CD is no longer readable, and my originals have gone.
    I have my preview quality set to high, and Im wondering if there is any way to retreive the images from the librarys previews. I know they wont be the best quality, but it would be better than having lost the images completely.
    Ive had a trawl through the Library package, and can see the preview files that would be suitable for restoration, problem is there is about 250 images!
    Is there a smart way to retrieve these or am I going to have to trawl through every directory and copy the preview file out and re-import it?
    Any help most gratefully received!
    Andy

    You could apply the method decribed here to find the previews and duplicate and copy them to a new location.

  • Can one recover images from saved collection if originals are deleted??!!

    Greetings, first time user having serious probelms... Because of conflicting file numbers from two different cameras I've gone and deleted many important images from my desktop without backing them-up on my mobile Lacies.
    The thing is that I can zoom into the worked-on images at 100% in the saved collection, but of course there isn't the original file for me to work-on or export.
    I've tried exporting the file but without any success...
    Is there any way I can retrieve these missing files from the collection??
    Regards
    Doug Pearson

    Actually if the 1:1 previews are there you can, AFAIK use it if you can find it. it is basically a JPEG. I believe one way is to do aslarge a draft print as you can as a PDF in Print and then in Preview convert to TIFF and reipmort the TIFF.
    Round about, but I think this is a method that Sean McCormack has espoused before.

  • How can I recover images from my cache after firefox has dumped or overwriten them?

    I am well versed in how to extract image sfrom my browsre's cache. My cache is toggled to allow 50MB of storage space. What happens to the files that are cleared after this limit has been reached? Can I recover data i.e. photos, that has been lost in this way?

    If Firefox is forced to remove something from the cache in order to store something else, it is overwritten. I doubt that trying to recover that file will succeed.

  • IPhoto Library is Synced onto my iPhone can i retrieve the images from the library off my iPhone, as the library file has been deleted on my Macintosh.

    Dear All;
    I currently have a issue with my iPhoto & iPhone, i apologize if this is the incorrect area for assistance.
    My iPhoto library has been synced with my iphone all my images/photos are saved onto the phone, but i want to put them back onto my Mac, unfortunately my iphoto library has been deleted (actual file). is there any way to achieve this?
    i have tried syncing the photos but i believe it will delete them, and update with my current library (no images).
    i have also tried to take the images off via iphoto & image capture but they only take newly taken images not the photos in the old library stored on my iphone.
    i am using an iPhone 4S, Macbook Pro 2010 & current version of iPhoto.
    Please advise if there is any way to move an iphoto library from iphone to mac.
    Thanks & Kind Regards
    Jordan.

    Correct, you don't want to sync.
    There are various apps that will recover images from an iOS device.

    is one, but there are others.

  • Can i fetch images from my remote server to UIImageView or a preview thumbnail in ios app?

    consider i have 1000 images in my hosting, i want all those images in my ios app. It is like ,in one screen around 9 thumbnails of image must be loaded from the webserver .And when i swipe the screen to the right another set of 9 thumbnail images must be loaded , it goes on untill all the image from the server are loaded. and when i click on a thumbnail the image must be shown in full screen. When i add more image to the hosting,  the swiping of  pages and thumnail previews must also dynamically increase. is there any way to achieve this concept ??

    khankmk wrote:
    if yes,then can u tell me how to achieve it?
    Again, to give you the answer you have requested - yes, I can.
    This is roughtly equivalent to asking a doctor how to remove an appendix. It isn't the most difficult surgery in the world, but it does require some training. It is not something I am able to explain. I could tell you to setup a web server with REST interface to serve images, metadata, and structure. Then write your app to populate some browser tables based on that data. Somehow, I don't think that explanation is going to provide much help.

  • Losing Metadata when extracting image from stack

    Hi,
    I have a series of 70 images that I edited in colour and B/W. They were stacked with the original RAW file in stacks of 3. I decided to extract the B/W versions to collect them in a separate folder. Now I discovered that from most B/W images the IPTC data is gone (and I had extensive captions and keyword lists). Only the info I filled in when importing the files from the camera remains. The IPTC of the other images in the stacks (RAW and a colour TIFFs) are in some cases gone too. So in more than 50% of the cases I have lost all added data in all three images from each stack.
    Has anyone had similar problems? Is there any way to recover the data of the images where all data is gone?
    In some stacks at least one of the images still has the data. So I can copy that again.
    Thanks,
    Ronald

    I don't have a file to test with mdls but I usually use ExifTool for metadata work.  Here is a script I wrote a while ago that will display all of the metadata contained in the file.

  • PSE6 can I recover deleted photos from thumbnails?

    Photos were accidentally deleted from the hard disk and the Recycle Bin but recovery software restored many of them. However, quite a few were recovered as pairs of files: each pair had the same number but with respectively a .lcd and .tnb suffix, and they are unreadable. In virtually every case the .lcd file is 41Kb and the .tnb file is 3KB. Does anyone know what these files are and if there is any way of joining them back together so that they are once again .jpg files that can be read? We've still got thumbnails of the lost files and I've seen the very helpful advice on how to keep these, but it would be good to be able to access the original photos. Thank you.

    Hi,
    I am not sure if the .lcd file that you are referring is your recovered image file.
    To check this, just change the extention from .lcd to .jpg for one file. Open the image in Editor and check if you see your image.
    If yes, change the extension .jpg for all the other files.
    Thanks/ Tarun

  • After importing images from my card using LR 5.4, the GPS data does not show in the metadata panel. However, when I look at the imported images using Bridge, the GPS data is visible. Anybody know why LR is not seeing the GPS data? Camera is Canon 6D.

    After importing images from my card using LR 5.4, the GPS data does not show in the metadata panel. However, when I look at the imported images using Bridge, the GPS data is visible. Anybody know why LR is not seeing the GPS data? Camera is Canon 6D.

    Ok, the issue seem to be solved. The problem was this:
    The many hundred files (raw and xmp per image) have been downloaded by ftp in no specific order. Means - a couple of files in the download queue - both raw and xmps. Most of the time, the small xmp files have been finished loading first and hence the "last change date" of these xmp files was OLDER than the "last change date" of the raw file - Lightroom then seem to ignore the existence of the xmp file and does not read it during import.(a minute is enough to run into the problem)
    By simply using the ftp client in a way that all large raw files get downloaded first followed by the xmp files, we achieved that all "last changed dates" of the xmp files are NEWER than the related raw files. (at least not older)
    And then LR is reading them and all metadata information has been set / read correctly.
    So this is solved.

  • RAW images from D300 appear as thumbnails in Bridge

    I have CS3 and ACR 4.5 and Windows XP, for the past month all RAW files from D300 have loaded perfectly and opened fine. Yesterday, I loaded files and they appear only as thumbnails in Bridge. I am not able to rotate, or apply any adjustments to these thumbnails. If I double-click them, they open as RAW files in ACR, and I can proceed and work on them as I normally would.
    Another strange thing: all of the other files I have loaded from my D300 now react the same way, even though they were perfectly fine before. Images from D2x are fine.
    Should I try to uninstall/reinstall Bridge? Any other suggestions? There have been similar threads here, but not this specifically.
    thanks
    alan

    I just experienced the same phenomenon. It actually started in the middle of a session working in the Bridge. Other then the thumbnail appearing there were a couple of other strange symptoms I noticed when this happened to me.
    1. If first happened to some files, then got worse as I went back and forth between folders. However, it never effected all the raw files. Some stayed as normal.
    2. It effected .ORF files and .DNG files equally.
    3. For both files effected and those not effected it created a corresponding .XMP file in the folders
    4. If used the DNG converter to convert the ORF files to DNG the resulting DNG files appeared as normal thumbnails.
    In any event the reset suggested by Curt did work, and restored everything back to normal.

  • Need some help trying to generate thumbnail images from large Jpegs

    Hello,
    I have some ActionScript 3.0 code, created with Flex that
    will load a large JPEG image (say 3000x2000 pixels) that I'm trying
    to create a 100 pixel thumbnail. I have the code working where I
    generate the thumbnail, but it's not maintaining the aspect ratio
    of the original image. It's making it square, filling in white for
    the part that doesn't fit.
    I've tried just setting the height or width of the new
    image, but that doesnt render well, either.
    To see what I'm talking about, I made a screen shot, showing
    the before image, and the rendered as thumbnail image:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/taude/533544558/.
    Now, there's a few things important to note. I'm saving the
    thumbnail off as a JPEG. As you can see in my sample application,
    the original renders fine with the proper aspect ratio, it's when
    I'm copying the bytes off the bitmapdata object, where I need to
    specify a width and height, that the trouble starts. I've also
    tried using .contentHeight and .contentWidth and some division to
    manually specify a new bitmapdatasize, but these values seem to
    always have NaN.
    private function makeThumbnail():void{
    // create a thumbnail of 100x100 pixels of a large file
    // What I want to create is a a thumbnail with the longest
    size of the aspect
    // ratio to be 100 pixels.
    var img:Image = new Image();
    //Add this event listener because we cant copy the
    BitmapData from an
    /// image until it is loaded.
    img.addEventListener(FlexEvent.UPDATE_COMPLETE,
    imageLoaded);
    img.width=100;
    img.height=100;
    img.scaleContent=true;
    img.visible = true;
    // This is the image we want to make a thumbnail of.
    img.load("file:///C:/T5.jpg");
    img.id = "testImage";
    this.addChildAt(img, 0);
    private function imageLoaded(event:Event):void

    var bmd:BitmapData =
    getBitmapDataFromUIComponent(UIComponent(event.target));

    theImage.source = new Bitmap(bmd); //new Bitmap(bmd);
    public static function
    getBitmapDataFromUIComponent(component:UIComponent):BitmapData
    var bmd:BitmapData = new
    BitmapData(component.width,component.height );

    Dev is 10gR2 and Prod is earlier version of Oracle, 10gR1.
    The schema (or table(s)) export file created by Oracle Database Control in Oracle 10gR2 is not importable into 10gR1, by default.
    Workaround.
    Use the Schema (table(s) export wizard of in the Maintenance section
    of the Oracle Database Control in ver 10R2,
    but when you get to the end of the wizard (I recall Step 5),
    show the data pump export source PL/SQL code, cut and past to editor,
    and find the variable where you can set the Oracle database version
    to your prod database version,
    then run the script from the SQL Plus prompt in 10gR2 dev,
    and this creates an Oracle 10gR1 compatible data export file.
    Then go to Prod and run the schema (table(s)) import data wizard,
    and import the export file. You will have to option to move the data
    to another schema or tablespace if required.
    Just to not run into troubles, I use the same schema and tablespace name
    in both dev and prod.
    the variable you must modify in the 10gR2 datapump export script looks like
    h1 := dbms_datapump.open (operation => 'EXPORT', job_mode => 'SCHEMA', job_name => 'ExportTableToProdJob', version => 'COMPATIBLE');
    and you must change manually to
    h1 := dbms_datapump.open (operation => 'EXPORT', job_mode => 'SCHEMA', job_name => 'ExportTableToProdJob', version => '10.1.0.1');
    This creates a 10g1.0.1 or later compatible export data file.
    You must have read/write privileges to the folder were the export data file will be created, and imported from. (Oracle Directory Object)

  • Recovering image metadata on deleted images

    I deleted images on the hard drive by mistake, does that delete the catalogue data as well? I'm not sure if it does because when reimporting those same images from a backup the image names are changed to xxx.DNG-2 and not xxx.DNG as they were originally. Why is that? How do I find the catalogue data for the original images and apply that to the re-imported ones...? Or does such a thing exist, or do I have to redo the PP all over again...?

    Hello,
    if you delete image on the file system LR does not loose any development settings (sometimes it can not display a preview, but this does not mean that the development settings are lost). LR shows a "!" for lost images.
    You need not to reimport the missing image! Just copy to image from your backup to the location where LR expects the image and keep the same name as in LR for your image. Then, the "!" disapears (red mark) and (nearly) everything is o.k.
    For some of your images the develoment data stored in the catalog is more recent then the information stored in the (jpeg/tiff/dng) files. You should select these files and choose "Metadata->Save Metadata to File" from the context menu do sync lightrooms catalog with the files on the hdd. (green box)

  • Displaying a larger image from a thumbnail [was: Question]

    I would like to display a larger image from a thumbnail inserted on the web page. I inserted a rollover image, used the thumbnail as the original and a larger and different jpeg image as the rollover image. However, when the mouse rolled over the thumbnail, the new rollover image (different then the original) was the same size as the original. Is there an easier way to display a larger image from a thumbnail? What am I doing wrong? Thanks

    Could you also provide a CSS solution to opening a non _self page that is the same size as the image displayed on the page.
    Not possible with pure CSS.  Sorry.  Your best option is to use one of the jQuery Lightbox scripts mentioned below.
