Recovering Leopard after crash?
Hello,
I own an iMac which was bought in December 2008. As a Christmas present in 2009, it decided to give out on me and while I'm not sure what the problem was, I decided to erase my hard drive and reinstall. The main issue was that there was no startup screen (i.e. the screen stayed white).
The disks I had were for 10.4.11, so I guess Leopard came with the computer or something? When I reinstalled the operating system, I lost Leopard. I didn't think it was a big deal but now 5 months later I find that a lot of software I'd like to run does not work on Tiger.
Is there any way for me to recover Leopard from the depths of my computer? Or do I have to shell out 160$ for Snow Leopard?
Since I'm computer illiterate, here is some info:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Any input would be very appreciated. Thanks!
If the machine shipped with Tiger discs and you subsequently ran Leopard, then either it also came with a Leopard drop-in install disc or you purchased Leopard separately. The 24" iMac that I purchased in April '08 came with Leopard installed and won't run with Tiger. So, there's something amiss with your posting. These are the specs:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
SMC Version: 1.21f4
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159 for details on builds that shipped with ICBMs.

I just had an unpleasant experience: I was working on some LaTeX files in Kile, then tried to open a file in Kaffeine, which made KDE crash. I had no alternative but to turn off the computer, and when I turned it on again, the LaTeX files were apparently damaged. At first, they appeared with their full sizes in the file manager, but only the first page-and-a-half came up in Kile (or in any other editor, for that matter), but after some more fiddling around (including an expedition to Windows to see if they were accessible from there - the files are on a vfat partition) they show up with file size 0.
Is there a way to recover them? Luckily, I have the dvi files from them, so I can recover the text, but I'd hate to go through all the latex coding over again.Hate to bump such an old thread.... but this is exactly what just happened to me. And I'm going crazy considering the amount of work I've put into the document. I was just a couple lines from uploading my work... and then this. Didn't make a backup cause, honest to God, I did not expect something like this to happen.

In Mac Firefox 10.0.2, is there a way to import/merge Mac Firefox 3.6.13 and 3.6.15 history (not just bookmarks), and history recovered after crashes, and if so, how? Thank you!
You can find the Import menu entry in the Bookmarks Manager (Library)
*Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Data from Another Browser
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks
Import & Backup is the third button on the toolbar in the Library that looks like a star.
You should be able to export the bookmarks via that button.

Recover Non Saved Pages Files after Crash?
Just went through the horrendous experience of loosing many hours of work in Pages when my machine unexpectedly crashed. No I did not save. I am stupid, but how hard is it to design a program to auto save and recover after crash? Microsoft seems to have figured that out.
I have downloaded a 3rd party program to do it, but it is the end of using Pages for me. I really enjoyed the layout capabilities, but the omission of a file recovery feature moves this down to a 3rd tier application that looks good but does not meet the fundamental needs of users.
I am sure the work is lost forever but if there is a solution I am missing let me know. The point is that software can do so much for us today, spell check, grammar check, automatic date, create PDF's etc... but it cannot accommodate recover after crash?
From my perspective my only mistake was using Pages in the first place. For that I can blame myself. -
After updating to Firefox5.1, Nvidia kernal mode driver frequently "not responding & crashed then recovered", along with crashing of the Firefox browser.
I have the same problem. I just upgraded to Win 7, no problems. Then I upgraded to FF 4.0, and I kept getting Nvidia Video Card crashes. I always undo my last computer change/install when something like this happens, so I immediately uninstalled 4.0, and went back to my older version of Firefox. No problems ever since.

Recover iMessages after iTunes sync
I have been having major battery issues ever since getting the 5s. I've restored a couple of times from iCloud, but it hasn't worked. Apple has said they can see a lot of crashing apps in the diagnostics report (about 30). The tech suggested I wipe it out and do a sync with iTunes instead of a restore, but apparently I would lose all of my iMessages. He said there are 3rd party apps to recover that. Anyone have experience with recovering iMessages after an iTunes sync? Any recommendations on what software to use for that? I'm assuming I would also lose any other data I have on my phone - like in Viber, Whatsapp, etc, is there any way to recover other data as well? Will I lose all of my settings this way too? I've come to depend on the iCloud backup and disappointed that I can't use it and have a stable phone.
It gets easier still:
1) Connect your Nano to you computer
2) Wait for iTunes to come up.
3) Click your Nano on the left and view the summary tab.
4) Click the "Configure Universal Access" button.
5) In the pop up window, uncheck VoiceOver

Recovering from a crash during edit (6.1)
Hello again,
There used to be resource (.rsc) files that, post crash, one could rename .VI and open - sometimes recovering work after a crash. I Don't remember what version(s) this was in, perhaps 4.x - maybe 5.x too. Is there any such "recovery option" in LabVIEW 6.1, 7.1 , or 8.0 ?
Thanks.
(Most interest is in 6.1 options, as 7.1 seems very stable)

When they give imbeciles handicap-parking, I won't have so far to walk!I seem to recall that Labview used to create these .rsc files in revision 4.X as well as other temporary files.
If I remember correctly they were created in the temporary directory C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\.
You had to clean them out from time to time in Windows 3.X
(crashing of course was a frequent occurence on Windows 3.1 and when Bill said we wouldn't see GPF error message again, we never did - he changed the message)
I don't recall that you could load the .rsc files but the structure was certainly reminiscent of a LabVIEW VI of the time (it was a tantalizig glimpse of what could have been).
Perhaps someone else could recall more? Anyway I tried and coudn't load one; but then my Windows machines don' crash (honest)
But what an ace idea, a bit like the 'Edit Undo' feature, it was a long time coming but when it did we all wondered how we lived without it.
Perhaps they could addd an option to write open file formats (sort of XML) and really start something? -
I recently upgraded toSnow Leopard, after that I was given a continual message that I had to reinstall my Internet Cleanup. So I did. Then I turned my computer off and now it will not turn on at all. Help!
See if your Mac will boot from the install DVD.
Then uninstall Internet Cleanup.

How to recover photos after restoring iPod touch?
Yesterday, there was an update for the iOS 6, I believe. When I pressed the update button, a message popped up saying that there was a problem with my iPod touch 4G and that I need to restore it. I had absolutely no idea why that message would pop up in the first place because my iPod was working just fine. But I couldn't update my iPod to the newest version if I didn't do what iTunes says... so I was about to restore my iPod, but then I was worried that all of my photos would disappear. So I decided to update my iOS later so that I could transfer all my files on to my computer. I then unplugged my iPod, and tried to turn it on but the home screen wouldn't pop - no matter what I did, all the screen showed was an itunes icon on top with a USB plug-in cord at the bottom. So I had no choice but to restore my iPod. The thing is, once I restored my iPod and all, my photos were all gone and I did not use iCloud as a back-up since a few months ago. All of my recent photos are now gone and I have no idea how to recover them. I've tried programs that aim to recover deleted photos, but they didn't work.
Is there a way to recover photos after restoring the iPod Touch?Hello,
It is very important to backup your device to the computer before updating or restoring.
You can restore your device to a previous backup, all the photos that were there when you made the backup should return with it, but I'm afraid that any photos taken or saved after the last backup are unrecoverable.
I hope this helps.

You can go strait to SL, all you need is a retail SL DVD available from Apple for $20. The US online store has them at:
