Recovering Library from HDD crash

I have CDs and other music in my library which is synced to both iPod & iPad.  The laptop on which I kept my library had a HDD crash.  How do I recover the non-purchased music into my "new" iTunes library?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

Since it's a new machine, contact Apple's Support, formerly Apple Express Lane and let them deal with it.

Copy your iTunes Library from your Old computer, or it’s Backup, to your New computer...
    See Here for one way
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    Or...
From your Old Computer... Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..
An Added Bonus is that you will then have a Backup of iTunes...

  • Recovering from HDD crash - Netboot Images

    Howdy's,
Essentially, I have a G4 (866mhz) Quicksilver tower as a server here. Its an older machine but does its job. Until such time as I started to lose the HDD.
All of the LDAP/WGM configs I've been able to recreate. No problem there.
However, /Library/Netboot/NetbootSP0 has a few Netboot images that are used for imaging here.
Because of the HDD starting to fail, I've had to recreate the server. I would have expected that just copying from the original drives, to a share, and then back again would have it work.
    Not so.
When copying back and starting the NetBoot service, it's picked up the images, and the configs (joy!) that were their previously.
However, if I try to Netboot a G3, G4 or Intel (which all worked 3 weeks ago) they crash during the boot process. The crash is pretty random and basically results in a corrupted screen display.
Given that one of the images has had about 3 years worth of development in it that has ZERO documentation about it.. I'd like to recover, not reproduce
Where should I be looking for more information? Does anyone have any guides/howto's I should be looking at?
    Cheers,
    Jason

    Somewhat solved.
I have no idea why this failed originally, but... I didn't have enough space on any Mac machine to copy (scp/cp/finder copy and paste) the images to when the machine was still running.
    So I copied them to a Win2k3R2 SMB/CIFS share.
That seems to have been the problem.
Got hold of a Firewire caddy, pulled the data off the old drive (after 10 attempts, that's one sick drive and tried again. Success.
There must be some meta-data or the like associated with the files themselves that caused this.
Even with HIGH logging on the Netboot server, there is no difference in the previous logs to the current one. The current attempts just boot..

  • CS6 Crashing...trying to recover library from XFL

I have this student who was working on his project that was an XFL, when Flash refused to open it this morning.  When I found his file, it appears the DOMDocument.xml, MobileSettings.xml, and PublishSettings.xml HAVE DISAPPEARED.
I can see his library folder and the assets in there. Here is the million dollar question: HOW DO I RETRIEVE THE SYMBOLS FROM THE CORRUPTED XFL FILE?!
I've tried converting the file to an RAR and repairing it, but that didn't do anything.
    HELP?
    Thanks!

  • Replacing recovered files from a crashed HD

I had a HD crash but could recover the files on the disk. Any website that explainse how I can put back the recovered files like for instance my contacts from Adressbook, Software, etc.
Or can any one explain where to put what files to get the closesed to my previous configuration?
    Many thanks,

I would just copy them because Migration Assistant sets up a new account, which might cause you to have to move the files around.

  • Recover records from HDD in RD-XV47KF

For some years, I have been using my RD-XV47KF recorder w/o problems, mainly for recording films from TV.
Yesterday when I checked my last record made on the HDD, I saw that it was correctly present in the list of records, but it was the only one and I desperately realized that all my valuable previous recorded films have disappeared from that list, as though they had been erased before from the HDD.
Yet I fully am sure of not having controlled the HDD clearing process by mistake.
From memory, one particular thing occurred before making that last record, namely the recorder locked itself when not being able to complete a DVD finalization operation and I needed to unplug -> plug the power cord for getting out from this locked condition. Yet this should not have caused to clear the HDD.
Although the manual states that erased records cannot be recovered, as these previous records have not been erased on purpose but apparently by a strange misoperation,
I wish one could help me for suggesting how I could restore the previous condition of my list of records thus giving me access to my valuable previous recorded films.

Sorry mate. This is a Toshiba *notebook* user to user forum.
Dont think that there are some people who would be able to help you with RD-XV47KF video recorder.

  • How to recover files from a crashed hard drive

I believe my hard drive is in the early stages of crashing.  Last night I was using my Macbook Pro and was running safari and microsoft word when all the sudden the computer froze up and I got the spinning wheel.  I waited for about 5 minutes hoping the wheel would go away and after no avail decided to turn the computer off by holding the power button.  I waited a couple minutes to let it cool down and then I rebooted it and I was then given the jumping folder with a ? on it.  I did some research and found that this basically means your hard drive was crashing.  So I read a solution online that if you hit the Option button while the Mac is booting up it will allow you to select a hard drive.  I did this and luckily I was able to select my main hard drive and the computer booted up, but once I had logged in and was at the desktop screen the computer was very slow and when I tryed to open Finder I was once again given the spinning wheel.  The wheel continued to spin for a solid 10 minutes and the screen finally went black with just the spinning wheel.  So I once again decided to turn off the computer by holding the power button.  I have gone and talked to 2 different tech support stores and both are pretty sure that the hard drive is failing, which I pretty much already knew, and that it is going to be around 75$ to recover the lost information and another 125$ to install a brand new hard drive.
However, I have been using Time Machine to back up my computer but I have not backed it up since August 23rd which was about 2 weeks ago.  So I would lose all the files that I have made in the last 2 weeks basically and since I started school I have done quite a bit of work and so I do not want to lost the files.
What solutions can you come up with that I could use to possibly recover my files?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Recovering library from new external hard drive

My old external hard drive containing my iTunes and iPhoto libraries crashed.  I paid to have the data recovered.  The libraries are now on a new portable hard drive, but I don't know how to access them through ITunes and iPhoto.  Can anyone help?

Launch the applications with the Option key held down and point them there, or drag the libraries to the default location.

  • HT4796 how to transfer itunes library from a crashed pc to a new macbook pro

i bought a brand new macbook pro for school and the day after i ordered it, my old pc crahes. my entire itunes library was on that computer as well as some other things for my phone. I dont know how to switch all my music and what not from my old pc now that i cant turn it on anymore.

Without having access to that hard drive, it's not possible to migrate the iTunes library.
    phone?  An iPhone ??
If it's an iPhone, you can transfer iTunes purchases from the iPhone to the Mac using iTunes.
You probably have to authorize the Mac before doing so.

  • Recover Library from target disc

my hard drive on my iMac is near death, manged to get it into target mode onto my macbook pro, but i want the user/library ( this has my mail accounts etc)
but its not showing up, how can i recover it?

If the machine is running Snow Leopard or lower, you can use Finder to go to hard disk -> Users -> <user account> -> Library, if it is running Lion or higher, you'd need to be able to view hidden files, then do the same as above:
To show hidden files, first launch Terminal, then type:
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE <- Enables showing of hidden files
    then
killall Finder <- Which quits and relaunches finder, which puts the earlier command's changes in effect.

  • How do I recover files from a crashed hard drive?

When I turned on my laptop, a grey screen with a folder with a question mark was blinking on the screen.  My tech guys at my work said that it can't locate the hard drive.  They are looking at it for me right now (they are apple certified) but my main concern is recovering pictures that are on there.  I am a local photographer and I have some pictures I had JUST downloaded and hadn't had time to move over to my other storage before this happened.  Will I be able to recover those at all?!?!  I'm having a slight meltdown!!

You are probably going to have to send the disk drive out to data recovery service. This is going to be expensive like $$$$

If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod.  File>Transfer Purchases.
