Recovering Lightroom settings

Hi,
I am just completing an involuntary migration from XP to Windows 7 following a computer failure. Fortunately I have access to the discs from the old system.
I have Lightroom setup and working and I just wondered if there is any way I can recover the Lightroom settings from my old XP system discs. I have recovered to a library backup but I still seem to have lost a few edits. It is not the end of the world if I can't get them back but I wondered where I can find the in use version of the Lightroom catalogue from the old system.
Thanks.

The catalog will be either wherever you located it (you can choose and best on a drive other than where either the OS or the image files are if possible), or if you just used the default location in the My Pictures folder. It ends in .lrcat.
Your preferences file will be Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences folder on XP.

  • How to transfer Lightroom settings  from one catalog to another?

Lightroom 5. I have combined two catalogs into one "Master Catalog" per Julian Kosts tutorial ( http://tv.adobe.com/watch/adobe-evangelists-julieanne-kost/lr3-merging-individual-lightroo m-catalogs-into-a-master-catalog-/ ) without incident. However, my presets are not to be found. Could there be other issues? How Do I properly get these presets into my Master Catalog?
How to transfer Lightroom settings  from one catalog to another?

    Nevermind.
Per the turorials, this is suppose to occur automatically.
In the rare event that it does not, forced by lack of support through Adobe or the forums, I am relagated to resolve my problem the old fasjion way. Guessing at a solution of dragging and dropping (risking overwritting current the newer LR5 files (careful now).
I love the product but trying to get problem resolution here has been disapointing.
I'd like to retract this entire question session.

  • Photoshop doesn't show Lightroom settings, like cropping

    Hello,
    - I'm on Mac OS 10.9.1 (Maverick)
    - I have a scanned tiff file inported in LR 5.3
    - I do some adjustments in LR, like cropping, curves, etc...
    - I choose "Modify in Photoshop CC", with the top option "Modify a copy with lightroom settings" (supposed translated command from french versions)
    - A file is opened in PS CC last version (14.1.2)
    - The opened file doesn't show the LR settings (the cropping is not applied, for example)
If I export to tiff in place of modifying in PS, the generated tiff file is correct and includes all LR settings.
I use Photoshop since the beta version and LR since 1.0 and I'm an experienced user.
This is something that seems to have appeared only a few weeks or month ago (Maverick ? LR 5.3 ?)
I tried a lot of things but this keeps happening.
    Any idea ?
    Many thanks.

My problem seems to be now resolved.
    - I uninstalled PS CC with the uninstaller
    - I restarted my Mac
    - I reinstalled PS CC from the CC menu
    - Opened LR, chose Edit in PS CC
    - picture opened correctly in PS with all LR settings
    - I then reinstalled my third party plugins, one by one
    - the culprit was one of the Nik Software (now Google) plug-in.
I did several times the uninstall reinstall operations to be sure and it is clearly confirmed.

  • Can I import (or create) default Lightroom settings from an existing document?

Can I import (or create) default Lightroom settings from an existing document and save them? Make them a personal default set opening with all future LR catalogs?

Thank you, John. That brings up the question: How to build a template?
BTW, I'm not trying to duplicate a catalog; moving it to a larger drive. When opening the newly moved catalog in LR, my former settings (identity plate, defaults, etc.) didn't migrate, though I copied the LR settings folder and its contents into the new location (drive) and opened my develop presets.

  • Recover Site Settings

Is there any way to recover site settings from another user
profile on my PC? This past weekend, our support deparment switched
domain names on us. Now I have a new user profile - support dept.
was unable to import previous user settings. I can see .DWS files
in the SiteCache folder (under previous user\Application
    Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration). Are those
    helpful? Running Windows XP Pro.
    Thanks in advance...

The site definitions are stored in the Windows Registry. Tell
    IT to roll
your profile back so you can at least EXPORT those
    definitions, or bill them
for your time to recreate them....

How to transfer all lightroom settings from one pc to an other?

If you are talking about moving Lightroom and all your images to another PC, then this might help:

If something different, please clarify what it is you are wanting to do.

  • How to determine where Lightroom Settings (Presets) are stored

I have been running LR with a catalog and images that are on an external disc. I have several presets for use in import, develop, export, etc. Everything has been working fine until I recently was playing with the Print module. After doing that, the next (I think) time I opened my catalog, I discovered that all my presets had disappeared. When I examined the folder on the external disc that contains the catalog, presets, etc., I discovered a new folder, "Lightroom Settings". It contained empty folders for Import Presets, Keyword Sets, Filename Presets, etc. -- everything except the folder for Print Presets. This, obviously, is the cause of my missing presets, but why did it happen?
I'd like to know the "algorithm" for LR's storage of presets -- system level, user level, catalog level, whatever. It would seem to me that if it is adding catalog level presets, then it would either copy the existing set of user presets to the catalog or (probably better), not create empty catalog-level preset folders and use the user-level presets where there are none at catalog level. Is there someplace that this process is explained?

  • How to recover mail settings in Yosemite

I am running a number of mac computers all having the same IMAP email accounts on them. I had an issue with two of the mail accounts where the emails were getting stuck in the outbox. I read a couple of posts that suggested deleting the mail boxes and starting again. I did this, but low and behold, when i inputted the mail settings again they did not work at all. I messed about with it for a day and even tried apple support (I have an apple care pack) but they couldn´t help me. All i want to do is recover my mail settings from the last time I knew they were working fine, I have a time machine (one apple official one and two other external hard drives that I use as time machines, just in case)
any ideas? i´ve searched the forums but no one has had this issue resolved via TM recovery and Yosemite.
    Many thanks
    Dave

Hi Dave, I have this issue too and wondered if you had to call your Internet Service Provider or how you solved your dilemma.

  • The best way to migrate image library and Lightroom settings form PC to Mac?

I want to migrate my image library and Lightroom Catalogs and settings over to my new Mac Pro. My images are currently on a separate external drive, whilst my Lightroom Catalogs and settings are on my old PC.
My intention is to situate my entire image library on it's own dedicated drive, which is one of the four separate drives on the Mac (in this instance, drive 4). I have also installed Lightroom 3 onto drive 1 (the same drive as the OS and all other applications, including CS5). I bought this as an upgrade to LR2, which is on my PC.
    My questions are:
    (a) How do I transfer my LR2 Catalogs and settings housed on my PC, over to LR3 on the Mac?
    (b) Once the library has been moved, what do I need to do to get Lightroom to find them?

    (a) How do I transfer my LR2 Catalogs and settings housed on my PC, over to LR3 on the Mac?
Simply copy them. When you launch the LR2 catalog in LR3 you will be prompted to convert it to a version 3 catalog. This will create a duplicate. Once you are satisfied all is well you can delete the version 2 catalog.
    (b) Once the library has been moved, what do I need to do to get Lightroom to find them?
Control click on the topmost folder and direct lightroom to the current location of the folder on the external drive. All images in subfolders should sync nicely.

  • PC to MAC How to/best way to transfer lightroom settings/develop

I just installed CS6 and LR4 on my new Macbook Retina. I had been using a PC with LR3 and CS5, and I'm wondering how I can keep all the Develop settings, etc in the transfer of my photos.
Initially, all I did was a straight copy and paste of the original photos files to an external drive and transferred, but now I'm wondering how to get the LR settings applied to those photos. Can someone give me a step by step to copy my pics or just settings from the old PC to the new Mac and keep all my ratings, settings, etc? I have 300GB of photos, so it took a while to copy them, but I'd do it again correctly to keep my presets if someone can tell me how.

Victoria, I only have about 50 photos out of all them that I have ratings on, and have Developed, etc.  I have no clue what Publish Service is so I assume I don't use it.  The link seems really intense. It says that some settings are cross platform and some aren't,  My hierarchy is pretty simple I guess.  I have 24,000 photos in my "Photo" folder and then a folder for each country I've been to inside of that listed below.. In the preferences, it talks about "store presets with catalog" etc... do I want that or not? etc  & parent folder, etc..  I only have the parent option on the main Photo folder
I see all my lightroom files and folders, .lrdata, backups etc, but I've no clue which one to take with me over to the Mac to avoid deleting all of them and reloading 24,000
    WHICH brings me to Rikk,
Just right click on my Photos folder, with the 24,000 pics in it and Export as Catalog, send it to my WDBook and then bring them all in on my new Mac with Lightroom 4, and all my Develop/Settings  is/are there?
That sounds a TON easier than the above, and even though more time consuming, the route I'd happily take at this point for simplicity.
    Thank you both.

  • How to recover airport settings from back-up HD

Hi, recently I lost my airport settings. When I called my internet provider, they said they could not help me as I was on a MAC. Yes, they originally helped me set it up... I live in France so Tech support is hard. I do have a backup on a HD. Where do I go to look for the info on my Back-up copy? Which files? Thanks.

If it backed up the lock file, then Lightroom was open when Time Machine ran, and the backup therefore may be corrupted.  You could try restoring that backup (without overwriting your week ago version) and see if it'll open.  If it does, you're off and running.  What methods have you tried?

  • Recover lightroom files after backup

SO.  I backed up a week ago.  I've done a lot of work since then but I accidentally loaded the backup catalog (from a week ago) into Lightroom, which means I'm missing all the work I've done since that backup.  Is there a cache somewhere on my computer where I might be able to recover edits made since my last back up?

For some reason, the 'active' catalog disappeared under file>open>recent and only shows the backup catalog... so I'm wondering if there's a way to restore the active catalog or a cache where the past few days of work would be hiding.

  • Recovering Mail settings

My father recently thought he was cleaning up "unused" items on his computer. He moved a bunch of things to a folder he titled "Unused". Included in this was the Library folder in his home directory. A new Library was automatically created and all app settings were reset to default. The main problem is that when he went to use Mail, it wanted to him to create a new account. He did stopped at this point and called me in.
Another piece I should mention is that he said when he emptied his trash it had 1500 items in it (usually it would have fewer than 10). His use of the computer is actually quite limited. So this tells me he put something in the trash that really should not have gone there, but unfortunately there is no way for me to know. His memory is not very good, either.
The Library folder in the "Unused" folder he created has his mail cache, and appears to have the other settings. However, missing is the file "com.apple.mail.plist". Using spotlight, the only file with this name is one created the day he did this 'clean up' and tried using Mail, only to discover its request for creating an account.
My question is twofold. I have not been able to figure out how to recover his original Mail setup. Would this require the previously existing "com.apple.mail.plist" file? If so, am I able to recreate a 'new' Mail account that gains access to all his old mail, etc?
I appreciate any help that can be given.

    Brad,
The plist would only be necessary to recover and use a backup of the full Mail folder, but if the Mail folder continued to exist as the current Mail folder after trashing the preferences, then doing the following would be expected to recover the account folders and mailboxes IF the current Mail folder contained them:
When or if the com.apple.mail.plist is removed, then Mail will open as though new, but if when prompted to import anything, you DECLINE, and instead, re-enter your account info, Mail will re-discover the account folders for your accounts, and all should be well.
If on the other hand, you only have any copy (including the current one) of the Mail folder, then any mailboxes it contains can be imported, even if you cannot recreate the account setup info, the same way. However, any mailboxes in any account folder, cannot be imported as, say, the Inbox, but rather as another On My Mac mailbox, from which you can then move messages to the current Inbox.
Ask any needed questions, and keep us posted.
    Ernie

  • RECOVERING USER SETTINGS FROM PREVIOUS SYSTEM

I had problems with my HD and I had to re-install the system. I had to create a new user account to do that, now... how do I get back my user settings from the previous system??? like my email, keyboard sortcuts... etc.....????
I see my previous system folder with the info but... what do i do with it??
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Create another admin account using the same username/password combo used on the original one, Log into it, drag your stuff from the Previous System folder, replacing the new stuff, open Accounts, and delete the user your created when reinstalling.
BTW, typing in all caps is considered shouting and bad netetiquette, so please, stop doing that.
