Recovering Livetype files with Data Rescue II??

Okay, here's a duzy for you tech gods. Does anyone know if this is possible? I was able to recover a lot of my media for my project...but I lost dozens of Livetype files to the trash.
Data Rescue II, my recovery software can recover a number of different file types...but makes no mention of Livetype. Anyone know if I can turn the recovered resource forks back into editable livetype files? So I'm wondering more about what exactly makes up a livetype file.
Here's the process Data Rescue uses:
"In OS X, when a file is deleted, for example by dragging it to the trash and emptying the trash, the file’s name and folder information is usually erased by the system, and is therefore irretrievably lost. However in most cases, the most important part of the file – its contents – are still present on the disk. Finding the file by its contents alone is in general a difficult task, requiring algorithms to recognize those contents among all the billions of bytes of data on the disk. This task requires algorithms that are tailored to each specific file type. Data Rescue X made a start at this by providing support for about
ten important file types that can be recovered by content."
And here is the information I could find on Mac files:
"In generic technical terms, Data Rescue’s content scan is potentially suitable for any file type that consists of a single fork. For files that have both a data and a resource fork, the forks may be recoverable separately by content scan, but Data Rescue has no means to connect the two pieces back together. Some “files” are in reality a collection of separate files which the Finder treats like a single file. This is called a “bundle”. The individual components of a bundle may be recoverable by content scan, but again Data Rescue has no automated way to associate these components back together into a bundle."

As I've previously mentioned, I don't know anything about DataResue.
But with FileSalvage, it's a fairly easy process. You don't need to know file info of any sort. Scroll about halfway down the FileSalvage website until you see this:
"Adding Custom File Formats
To recover files that may not already exist in the current list of ‘Supported File Formats’ the user can add them via the dialog drop down, doing so by dragging & dropping 10 or more files of the same format into the ‘Custom Format’ pane to the left side of the drop dialog. Once these 10 or more files of the same format have been dropped into the pane, the Process button will become highlighted and should then be clicked by the user. Upon completion of analysis the new format will be added to the supported formats pane."

  • Need to rescue Garage Band Files with Data Rescue II - what kind of files?

    Hi all -
    After a particularly gruesome computer crash, I am trying to reconstruct my lost files using Data Rescue II..... This program goes into the damaged hard drive and downloads all intact files it can find, but it is NOT able to label everything correctly. All it can do is divide things into folders - Audio files, document files, images, mail, misc., and movies. And within these folders are other folders - for instance, in the "Audio" rescued folder, there are hundreds of AIFF files, AIFF1 files, AIFF2, MP3, WAV, m4a, and m4p files.
    My question is: can someone please tell me what the heck a Garage Band project file is? That would save me a lot of time in digging through all this material trying to find one....
    (Don't get me wrong... I'm grateful to have stuff to dig through! I just hope my Garage Band files are intact and recoverable.)
    Has anyone had success saving Garage Band files with Data Rescue II?
    Thanks in advance.

    Aaaagh!
    I spoke too soon. Yes,I did indeed find the file that contained all the files I needed to retrieve (using Disk Rescue II). When my 6-hour download of the 78 GB folder finished, I check the files again, and they weren't located in the orphaned section, but in the Hard Drive section under the normal directory, in a folder called .Trashes - within that there was another folder called "501", which contained all the Garageband files I needed to retrieve. However, when I tried to open the downloaded "rescued" files, they were inside a folder called "Macintosh HD", which could not be opened, and I got a message that said "Could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges." Not only that, but even after 6 hours of (apparently) downloading the 78 GB folder, my hard drive, which had close to 83 GB of free space, said STILL had almost that same amount.
    So did it download anything or not? What was it doing all those 6 hours? I have a file that I can't open, but apparently it's going to be empty anyway.
    Here's the full story, for anyone with the patience to listen and offer advice. It looks like now I'm looking for a way to 1) get the permissions to open the .trashes file so that I can download everything, or 2) figure out a way to get Disk Rescue II to open the files and download them regardless of the permissions.
    Full Story -
    I am pretty sure that my computer crash was caused by working with the newest version of Garageband 08. Ever since buying it and loading it, my computer has been acting funny whenever I use the Garage Band program - I could only record about one in three attempts since the computer kept freezing as soon as I finished recording a line. I would have to use force restart to get going again.
    The day the computer crashed, I was working on a Garage Band project, which kept crashing, and I was also using Finale, Microsoft Word, and iTunes -- all of which are my normal procedure and I'd never had any problems with anything before loading the new Garage Band 08. (See my posts on other discussion topics for more details). After the last freeze, the computer crashed totally and could not be restarted - it would get to the gray screen with the spinning gear and just sit there while the fans ramped up to overload.
    I used Disk Warrior to rescue whatever files I could onto an external hard drive, and I started to download all the Garage Band files. However, the "estimated time to completion" said over 6 hours , so I stopped the download after a minute or so and went on to rescue all the other files that were smaller in size and easier to download - I figured I'd set Disk Warrior to download the whole 78 GB set of Garage Band files overnight while I slept. But....when I went back to begin the download again, I noticed that the directory of Garage Band files went only to the letter "C" instead of all the way to "Z" like my original files had done during that earlier attempt to download. I am assuming that somehow, the directory for the files I download before aborting the attempt (A-C) got exchanged with the directories of the original version (A-Z), but the original directory was no where to be found.
    I decided to try an archive install in the hopes that I could just restart my computer and get the files out by hand. The archive install went fine, and the computer started up fine and got to the log-in screen, which had changed. I now had two blanks - one for user name and one for password, instead of the choices of names. I tried all my user names and passwords, and asked my wife for her names and passcodes, but nothing worked. The computer had apparently re-set all its permissions and User accounts. I tried using Disk Utility to reset the password in its opening screens, but instead of getting several User options, the only one it allowed me to attempt was "System Administrator (root)", and even that wouldn't let me in to change any passwords.
    That's when I downloaded Data Rescue II, which does seem to do a good job of locating lost files. However, since I didn't have permissions to open the computer the last time, I am still apparently facing the same thing when I try to access files copies OFF the computer.
    So I'm not out of the woods yet. I can see the files on the Data Rescue screen, but I don't know whether they have permissions tied to them or not, and if they do, whether the system would let me since I don't know what the passwords and user names have defaulted back to.
    Any advice? Please?

  • Can't Open Project Recovered With Data Rescue

    Hi All,
    Stupid me, I trashed a project file and emptied the Trash. I had forgotten that a FCP sequence was referencing the DV files contained in that project package. I had no backup of the DV files (please, no preaching - I learned my lesson).
    I was able to recover the project file with ProSoft's Data Rescue, but here's the rub:
    The original project was created with an earlier version of iMovie, and was reconverted later with iMovie 6 HD in the same folder. Data Rescue does not seem to recognize that it is a package type of file, thus option-clicking does not list Open Package Contents as an option. Double clicking the recovered project file results in iMovie 6 HD trying to convert the file from the older format, but since the package contents don't seem to be available, or arranged correctly, errors occur.
    iMovie 6 seems to know the names of the clips, but can't import them from the older format. I am certain the clips are there (there's only 2), given the project size is 17 GB, which looks about right. Thus I feel certain the clips are in there somewhere.
    Unfortunately, I no longer have the iMovie version that was used in the initial creation of the project. not that that would help anyway. Is there some way to recover the clips?

    Nevermind, the Thorough Search option in Data Rescue found the files I thought were gone for good .

  • Recovering with Data Rescue II

    Hi everyone. I just bought a new external hard drive (Iomega Mini Max) and Data Rescue II so that I can hopefully recover the many music files trapped in my corrupt Lacie hard drive. A while ago I accidentally (and to my everlasting horror) unplugged it while I was downloading a few shows and it hasn't mounted at all ever since. Anyways, I've installed Data Rescue II, but the Lacie never shows up, and I'm not exactly sure how to use it anyways... I think I'm supposed to boot up from the CD, but I don't even know how to do that. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

  • Creation file with data of sales order header and scheduling

    Hi developers,
    I must create a file to send a customer with data of VBAP and VBEP.
    You have a way fast or a report base for this activity?
    Thanks
    Domenico

    Domenico,
    I am not clear over the requirement.
    Anyway as per my assumptions over your issue here is what I think.
    If you want to create a file on presentation server...then use ws_download. this function module is used downloading data from an internal table to a file.
    For application server, use 'open dataset for output'. Do F1 on 'open dataset' and do a 'transfer' from internal table to your file.
    TRANSFER source to dsn.
    dsn has the file name.

  • How to import flat file with date in filename on a regular basis

    Hi,
    Using OWB 11gR1
    I have a file that will be delivered to an FTP each night with the date in the filename having the form YYYYMMDD-FILE.txt (ex: 20100326-FILE.txt) that I want to import to an external table.
    Now I've set up the import to the external table but am only able to import files that I specify the name for exactly. I've tried pointing to filenames such as "*-FILE.txt" and "%-FILE.txt" but that only results in errors.
    It must be possible to automatically import files with different filenames but the same structure, or isn't it? Could anyone help me solve this it'd be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi
    For dynamic files you can;
    1. either do the DDL on the external table to point to the file with the changing name
    2Copy the file to a fixed name before using the external table/maps
    3. Use the preprocessor to cat/pipe these files for the external table. See the post here http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/2009/06/file_staging_using_external_table_preprocessor.html it shows using gunzip but could simply be doing 'cat' on a bunch of files to standard output

  • How to read a file with data in Hierarchical Structure using XSD Schema

    Hi
    We have requirement in which we have to read a FIXED LENGTH file with FILE ADAPTER. File contains the data in hierarchical structure. Hierarchy in the file is identified by the first 3 characters of every line which could be any of these : 000,001,002,003 and 004. Rest files are followed after these. So structure is like:
    000 -- Header of File. Will come only once in file. Length of this line is 43 characters
    -- 001 -- Sub Header. Child for 000. Can repeat in file. Length of this line is 51 characters
    --- 002 -- Detail record. Child for 001. Can repeat multiple times in given 001. Length of this line is 43 characters 1353
    -- 003 -- Sub Footer record at same level of 001. Will always come once with 001 record. Child for 000. Length of this line is 48 characters
    004 -- Footer of file.At same level of 000. Will come only once in file. Length of this line is 48 characters
    Requirement is to create an XSD which should validate this Hierarchical Structure also i.e data should come in this hierarchy only else raise an error while parsing the file.
    Now while configuring the FILE ADAPTER to read this file we are using Native Schema UI to create the XSD to parse this structure using an example data file. But we are not able to create a valid XSD for this file which should validate the Hierarchy also on the file.
    Pls provide any pointers or solution for this.
    Link to download the file, file structure details and XSD that we have created:

  • Creating a spool file with date/time appended to file name

    In Oracle Sql*Plus, I want to spool out a file, with the date-time stamp as part of the file name. Any idea how to do this?
    Here's what I have right now:
    SQL>
    set serveroutput on size 200000;
    rem
    rem $OFSA is a UNIX alias so sql plus is talking to UNIX
    rem
    spool $OFSA/logs/OFSAP/common_coa_id.log;
    prompt 'Enter date in mmddyyyy format, without quotes';
    exec upd_common_coa_id_driver ('&date_mmddyyyy');
    spool off;
    As an example, I'd like to have a file with this name: common_coa_id083002.log
    Thanks.

    In SQL*Plus this is what you can do to get the current date/time as part of the spool file:
    ============================================================================================
    SQL> column tm new_value file_time noprint
    SQL> select to_char(sysdate, 'YYYYMMDD') tm from dual ;
    1 row selected.
    SQL> prompt &file_time
    20020816
    SQL> spool C:\Temp\logfile_id&file_time..log
    . /* put your code here */
    . /* it will go to a file called C:\Temp\logfile_id20020816.log */
    SQL> spool off

  • File Adapter : read XML file with data validation and file rejection ?

    Hello,
    In order to read a XML file with the file adapter, I have defined a XSD that I have imported to my project.
    Now the File Adapter reads the file correctly but it does not give an error when:
    - the data types are not valid. Ex: dateTime is expected in a node and a string is provided
    - the XML file has invalid attributes.
    How can I manage error handling for XML files ?
    Should I write my own Java XPath function to validate the file after is processed ? (here is an example for doing this : http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web/Web_Languages/XML/Q_21058568.html)
    Thanks.

    one option is to specify validateXML on the partnerlink (that describes the file adapter endpoint) such as shown here
    <partnerLinkBinding name="StarLoanService">
    <property name="wsdlLocation"> http://<hostname>:9700/orabpel/default/StarLoan/StarLoan?wsdl</property>
    <property name="validateXML">true</property>

  • Posting a File with Date Time using FTP in a BPM scenario

    Hi All,
      I have got a following requirement within the BPM ::-
    Step 1: We receive a file from an external system using FTPS with File Content Conversion Mode. The file is a comma separated file.
    Step 2 : We need to write the same file without any changes in data elements to another File System. The file to be written will be comma separated.
    Step 3 : The data will be mapped to an RFC and there will be a RFC Call to the ECC system.
    Step 4 : On successful call to RFC, the file will be dumped into the SAP File system also.
    The issue here is in Step 2. The additional requirement for Step 2 is to name the file with the following convention -
    ABCDEF_<Date in MMDDYYYY>_<Time in HHMMSS>_<Time in ms>_data.txt
    Can you help me on how to configure this from within the BPM ? I have seen blogs and replies in forum on using UDF's for the same. I am not sure on how to do this in BPM.
    Please help !!!
    Thanks,
    Amit

    Hi,
    I dont think you required BPM in this case,you can achieve this requirement using Multi mapping.
    3 Receive comunication channels
    1)to send file to receive File directory9Content conversion required)
    2)RFC Receiver Communication channel to make a cal to SAP ECC to send RFC..
    3)One more File communication channel to send data to SAP File System.
    refer below blog.
    /people/jin.shin/blog/2006/02/07/multi-mapping-without-bpm--yes-it146s-possible
    Regarding r file name use dynam ic configuration UDF or ASMA to chnage file name format to your desired format,if you decided to use UDF then map root nod of receiver file structure in multimapping.

  • Why do I have files with Date Created of Feb 5, 2040?

    I have at least 26 documents with Date Created shown as Feb 5, 2040 10:28 PM.
    The Date Modified seems to be okay, ranging from 9/24/00 to 10/29/12 - except for one that's 12/31/69.
    The Get Information window shows the same dates as the normal Finder window.
    File types are mostly DOC with some JPG and PDF and one TIFF.
    All were created by me over the course of time on a succession of Macs (except for that 12/31/69 PDF, which was downloaded from Garmin) and then migrated.
    Those I've checked have a Last Opened date that's the same as the Date Modified date.
    These documents are all in my Documents folder, in two subfolders, with some of them further down a hierarchy of subfolders.
    I first noticed this a few weeks ago.
    The number of these 2/5/40 documents seems to be increasing.
    Does anyone know:
    What could cause this phenomenon?
    How can I stop it?
    It's not a big problem per se, but is it likely to cause other problems?
    Is there a way to correct the Created Date?
    Thanks for any help!

    Then I may only guess that perhaps the date was off at some point in time that coincided with when those files were created or the application that created them has a bug in it.
    Oh, at this point in time are all new files dated incorrectly? If so then there could be a corrupted part of the PRAM. You might try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.

  • Having trouble recovering music files from data cd

    Over a month ago my computer crashed, possibly due to me trying to update my ipod to Version 1.1. Unforunately a lot of my programs weren't working after that, including Itunes, but I still have my music files which I could not listen to so I decided to save them as data so that they would not be lost forever. I was finally able to get Itunes up and running a couple of days ago, the music files on my harddrive have been deleted. I am now having trouble getting the songs from the cd I had burned to back onto my hard drive, I have tried Apple's method of dragging the files to the Source List while in Itunes, but this does not work. I have also tried Importing the songs, copying the file, and copying the folders, but none of this works. Sorry for this being so long

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What do you have set in the System/CDs and DVDs preferences to do when a disk is inserted? If the option is not set to the Finder do so and see if that will make any difference.
    Otherwise boot into Safe Mode and see if you can copy the files from the CD to a folder on the Desktop. Boot back into your normal account and see if you can import. Or import while still in the Safe Mode.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
