Last night I was moving a folder with sub folders full of VIDEOS, MUSIC, PHOTOS, SONY EX1 VIDEO FILES, FINAL CUT FILES, word docs to another internal drive via finder. within seconds I aborted the operation
I had everything in one folder then I dragged over to the other drive, then dragged it back but I aborted the process. Original folder size was about 300GB. When I try to restart the process, I noticed the folder size dramatically was reduced to about 130GB so checked the folder for my datas, numbers of them were missing. Is there a process such as "UNDO" or SYSTEM RESTORE that could help restore those file? I have not turned the computer off since this happened. Help please!!!

You need specialized +Data Recovery+ software, or a service that performs the function. It's not cheap, and there are no guarantees.
The app mentioned here most often is +Data Rescue 3,+ but I haven't used it myself, so can't recommend it over any of the others.
Some of these have a free "trial mode," that will tell you if there's anything to be recovered, and perhaps recover a single file. For more, you have to pay the $$.
You'll also need another drive to receive anything it can recover.

How do I recover lost files from a deleted user with no backup?

So I was locked out of my account for no reason giving me an error occurred message. I came on here to get help and the guy who helped me made me delete the account and then make a new one with the same name. The next steps to recover the files that he gave me do not work and he mentions that if it doesn't work to find the files and if I do not have a back up I will never be able to recover those files. Alert TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive.

Hi, mccaughkm. FileSalvage has no way of producing a preview of any photo it doesn't find on your hard drive, so if it shows you a preview of a file, that file exists. It is perfectly possible that you might recover photos that have been "gone" for months and not ones that you trashed an hour ago; what gets overwritten in what order is entirely up to the OS. It may have overwritten the very last file you deleted and not overwritten things you trashed months or even years ago — its logic is its own, and not subject to your control.
Based on what you say you did, I don't know what happened to your folder of pictures. If you've verified (by using the Find command in the File menu of the Finder) that the folder and the pictures in it are really missing, and not just moved to a new location, then perhaps suspicion will have to fall on the program that was using them. One of the possible hazards of using toyware like MozoDojo, especially when it's free, is that the software developer may have ignored Apple's user-interface guidelines, and may have designed the program to work in nonstandard and unexpected ways. I have no idea whether that's true of MozoDojo in particular, but if you really did nothing yourself to delete the folder, maybe MozoDojo did. It's hard to imagine why anyone would design an application to do that, since it would be sure to outrage a significant number of its users by doing so. Frankly, I think it's more likely that you yourself did something unintended. But whatever the cause, you need to focus now on the available means of getting back whatever pictures may be recoverable, rather than trying to figure out why they're gone.

Using Data Rescue II to recover lost files from corrupt hard drive!!!

OK I am terribly confused. I found out my MacBook Pro hard drive is corrupt and I can't even start up my computer. I was told to get Data Rescue II, another Mac, and an external hard drive.
I have all of the above but have no idea how to make it work!! How do I access the corrupt HD on the current iMac I am using with Data Rescue and then transfer the found files to the external HD??? Please I need help asap!!

First, if you have an external drive, then install OS X on the external drive. Boot from the external drive, install Data Rescue, then run Data Rescue and see if you are able to recover any files from the bad drive.
You boot from the external drive by restarting the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the external drive then click on the down arrow button.
If you do not have an external drive then you can try connecting the two computers with a FireWire cable and booting the computer with the bad drive into Target Disk Mode. Boot the good computer normally. Install Data Rescue and run it to see if you can recover anything from the bad drive. My guess is this method will not likely work, but one never knows without trying.
BTW, have you tried the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Your data is there, but in a different user. To access to your first user account, go to  > Log Out, and log in the old account with the data

If all your files are missing
You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.
If files are missing from one folder
Change the Finder view mode; for example, from icon view to list view, or vice versa.
If files are present, but seem outdated
You may have started up from a different volume (disk.) Open the Startup Disk preference pane and check the selection.

I have updated the firmware on my phone, using OVI suite, software updater tool. I missed the warning that it would erase everything on my phone to do the firmware update. Recovering lost files

My hard drive had to be replaced and so I lost everything on my computer. Now, when they replaced my hard drive they upgraded me from OS Tiger to Leopard but the issue is that whatever they did made it so my user account name and password didn't work so I could not upgrade the software. So Apple had me reinstall the OS. So now I'm back with Tiger and I had previously regained about four months worth of files plus some extras but the reinstall erased them and I wasn't told that. Is there a way to recover my lost files?
