Recovering lost iPhoto images??

Hi all,
I'm a complete idiot here! I thought I had backed everything up before I upgraded to leopard, and I did. The one thing I forgot, was probably the most important--
Does anyone know if it is possible to recover an iPhoto library after upgrading to leopard?
I know this is desperate, and to make matters worse - I did a clean install, erasing what was previously on my hard drive.
Thank you so much to anyone who can provide some input!

I am confused, do you have a copy of your iPhoto library on your backup? If so, you should be able to just copy the library back to your computer. When you start iPhoto, hold down the option key which will give you the option of creating a new iPhoto library or choosing an existing one. Click on the option to choose one and navigate to the library you just copied over. It should open without any problems.
If any on the other hand, you do not have a copy of the library on the backup disk, you might be out of luck. Sorry.

Can I istlll something to upgrade Iphoto Library to make it compatible with Iphoto upgrade and retieve my Iphotos ?
    Thanks

Whew, changes to iPhoto are ridiculous, but what OSX version are you on? 10.5.8?
Was any of iPhoto involved with an iPhone/iPad?
    I'd get GraphicConverter...

  • Recover lost disk image backup file

I think I may have screwed myself, but basically I am trying to get back the sparseimage that was lost when I tried backing up my internal hdd to an external using SuperDuper. My issue is that the external HDD was formatted as NTFS so I was using the NTFS-3G driver for write access. So something must have happened when I tried to remount and and the file was lost. This was after running a checkdisk on a windows machine to get the ntfs partition to show up again. So basically I am trying to figure out what kind of software I could use, if any, to get this 80gb disk image back. Also I should note that I used compression when backing up the disk image so I am thinking that this might make my problem even more complicated. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Cool, Ya that program did a pretty good job. It seemed to have found my lost directory structure. However like I mentioned I think I'm running into an issue with the compression that was ran on the image after backing it up. A feature that I am now regretting using. Because when I try to recover a file, like a jpg, preview says it can't preview the file. And opening plain text files gives me what appears to be binary or hex etc. So I am thinking I am running into issues where the files are still compressed and I need to figure out how to decompress them first before I can fully recover them. I was considering trying to just recover the whole directory structure and renaming the the top folder to a .img or .dmg file but I am not sure if that will work. Any ideas?
    Thanks again.

  • Lost iphoto images upon upgrade

I have upgraded to Iphoto6. When I opened Iphoto, it asked me if I wanted to upgrade the current photos in the Iphoto. I said yes. It upgraded these and they are now in a folder.
The prior folders and slide shows still appear. However, when you try to open them the screen has a blank figure. I think it is a dash. There are not photos showing in these prior folders and slide shows.
Should these be deleted as not useful?
I guess then if I want a slide show I need to remake the slide show from the photos in the upgraded folder?
    Thank you
Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Iphoto

The photos are in a folder titled; Recovered photos. This folder is along the list of folders. Prior folders, named Brazil, etc. are still there, but they do not seem to have anything in them.
    Thanks for the assisstance.
v6 uses a different file structure to v5 and earlier. Hence the empty Brazil etc. Folder.
A Note about the iPhoto Library Folder:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
The Standard Warning: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
As to the blanks: This caused by iPhoto being unable to import these pics during the upgrade procedure. If you're sure the blanks correspond to the pics in the Recovered Folder, then delete the blanks from iPhoto and empty the iPhoto Trash. Move the Recovered Folder to the desktop and try re-import the pics from there.

  • Lost iphoto images

All my images from iphotos have gone. I am not sure why.  The Mac may have been switched off at the plug by mistake, I don't know if this is the reason. I regularly make back ups but can't seem to find the files on passport.  Can anyone help?

If you want help you’ll need to give us more information. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • How to recover lost iphoto project, how to recover lost iphoto project, how to recover lost iphoto project

I was working on an I photo book and when I returned it was gone.
Is there any where I can look to recover the book?

Books don't seem to be saved to back ups.  Photos might be, but not the hard work we put into a book.
Books are also written to your iPhoto library and backed up, when TimeMachine backs up your iPhoto Library. But that requires that iPhoto already has written the changes to the iPhoto library, when Time Machines is running. Some changes to the databases in the library may only be written when iPhoto quits. To backup the current work at a project, it is best to quit iPhoto before running Time Machine.
and when I returned it was gone.
What do you mean by "returned"? Did you quit iPhoto before you left? Or force quit? Has there been a crash? A book does not revert to its previous state on its own.

I imported a photo from an e-mail and this has deleted my entire iphoto library.  Time machine has also been reset such that it only starts from the time of the event last night.

Try holding the option ey while starting iPhoto. You should be able to select your library then. If it ends to be repaired you should be able to do tat as well. You might also post this in the iPhoto forum.

  • How do I recover lost photos in iPhoto?

How do I recover lost photos in iPhoto? Instead of photos I have dotted borders or, in a few cases white boxes.

You could try rebuilding the database ...
Launch iPhoto while holding down the Command + Option keys.
The Photo Library First Aid window should open.
    Select:  Repair Database
    Click:  Repair
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If that doesn't help, copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If you do not currently have a wawy to backup your iPhoto library, you need to do that so that you can recover your photos in the event of a hard drive problem.

  • IPhoto image loss after editing in Library

Apologies for posting question here. There was no post message button in the iPhoto discussion page. I've edited about 2 dozen images in the iPhoto Photolibrary itself. Now I know not to do that, but in the meantime I'm trying to recover lost images apparently damaged in the editing. I may have reached a memory threshold, but there was no warning. The editor indicated after each change and shift to another image that the previous changes were being saved. Not so. The thumbs for these images in the browse bar first indicated the changes I had made, but then changed back to their original orientations after a second or so. The images themselves couldn't be opened to edit. Couldn't revert to originals either. Indeed, the originals seem to have been lost in the process. Backed up the files to DVD disk and rebuilt the library (iPhoto 5.03 or .04, I think) by reopening with Command+Option held down. Now the problem thumbs have also disappeared. Is there any way to recover these images? Thanks.

  • Lost iphoto, cant install again

I have lost iphoto, it is no where to be found and some kind soul from here advised me to reinstall. I cant. Help, please
    Heres what I tried:
Installation disk 1- it restarts as it should. Then I get a window that says welcome to Mac 0s x. There are a variety of choices including "read before you install and also install mac os x". I click on that one. Then I go around again with the restart and the exact same list of choices.
On disk 2 I select the additional application pkg, get an installation window and select the HD as my destination. Then I get the following msg
“A newer version of “Additional Applications” (version 1.0.0.6.547) already exists on the volume “HD”
This software does not allow older versions to be installed on top of newer versions
    so I Cancel
Since I am wondering where the additional applications are I ask the FIND to locate them for me. Apparently there arent any because FInd cant find them.
I am wondering exactly what my problem is and do I need professional help.
I tried the disk utility program to verify and repair permissions and got 200 pages of information (example :Permissions differ on ./Applications/Internet Explorer.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Help/Images/Icon_folder.gif, should be -rw-rw-r-- , they are -rwxrwxrwx
Owner and group corrected on ./Applications/Internet )
Thanks for any assistance, I like iphoto and want it back

Thank you silly rabbit but I still have trouble. I did install Pacifist and everything looked fine BUT There is an Iphoto icon in my hd/ applications and it says it’s an application(as opposed to folder, document). When I click on it it looks like it is open just for a couple of seconds i see the rainbow spinner then switches back to finder or the open application.
I threw it all out (Pacifist) and emptied the trash. I restarted and installed it again. Then I installed IPhoto again. Looks good, its in the applications and clicking on it brings it up to appear to be an open application. I see edit (rotate, arrange photos, set title, etc.)
I connect camera Iphoto opens, looks good
tell it to import photos and it quits there was a msg but I didnt get it
I undid the camera and shut down and restarted.Iphoto flashes in the finder then nothing
iphoto is in application folder--i checked -but when I click on it it just flashes again and goes right back to finder
Now I install Panther (10.3.9) figuring it will install IPhoto since nothing else did. Here"s what happened:
click on iphoto and it asks if I want iphoto to open when I attach the camera YES
    attach camera------nothing detach
    attach camera iphoto opens
    click on import
    iphoto unexpectedly quits detach camera
    attachc camera iphoto opens
    click on import
    iphoto unexpectedly quits detach camera
Can someoone give me some idea of what I should do??

  • Lost all images in Keynotes for your college lectures

    Hello,
I spent a great amount of time developing 15 keynotes for an art history course.  I've upgraded to  a new macbook (early 2013 retina) and bought the Keynote 09 5.3 .
Now I've lost all images on my slides?  This is infuriating! I copied the folder of presentations to an external drive.  They also do not show up when accessed from the old macbook using the drive.  Nothing is corrupted on the external drive but these keynotes.
I see images on the thumbnails.  But the slides show placeholders.
    Please help!

All Images is not a location. It's a list.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
