Recovering mailbox from offline EDB file

We went from Exchange 2003 to 2007 on a totally separate box.  During migration, some users were shown as legacy mailboxes.  They are pointing to the old server.  This old server (Windows SBS 2003) has been decommissioned and exchange has
been completely removed from the server.  I was able to look through the files and find a large EDB file which I believe houses these legacy mailboxes.    This EDB file is not mounted at all.  They reside in an archived folder which may
have been created from another administrator for backup purposes.  How can I go about pointing these users to this file or possible exporting the contents of the EDB file.  I'm not trying to spend any money on 3rd party software.  I figured
there must be a way to point to this file and/or mount it to our existing exchange server.

I've followed these steps and other found online with no luck.  I am using the Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant.  I made sure DB was in a clean state.  Moved the DB to RSG folder and tried mounting.
I tried renaming the database to "Mailbox Database".  If I do not, when I try mounting, it does not show the actual DB name that I copied into the RSG folder.  When attempting to mount im presented with the following error: Received
the following error: Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-1213)
When creating a new RSG, it mentions "only databases from the linked storage group can be mounted in the recovery storage group".  SO I decided to move the DB's to the First Storage Group directory, thinking I would be able to pull the correct database.
Upon creation, it asks for Transaction log folder, system folder and database folder.  I tried several times to point to the recovered database file, all failing on me.  For example:
Under "Database folders and file names" shows Mailbox Database.  The Database path is pointing to the First Storage Groups Mailbox Database and the Recovery database path is pointing to the RSG folder.  However, when I try to change this to point
to the ACTUAL DB that I copied over, it wont let me create the RSG.  Only way around is the keep everything defaulted. I then copy the DB files to the RSG folder, try to mount and presented with the above error....

  • Recover mailbox from Exchange server 2010 information store to exchange server 2013

I have a big issue. I have a correct exchange server 2010 where the active directory is corrupt but the information store is good.
I would like to recover a couple of mailboxes to an exchange server 2013.
Can anyone give me a detailed walk through of how I can accomplish this?
    Thank in advance

    Well if your AD is messed up that leaves you in a jam for sure because;
    1. Database portability ONLY works within the same organization, so you cannot just install a new 2010 server in a completely different forest and then move the DB in hopes that DB portability will work.
    2. As Ed said you should build a new Exchange 2010 server and use portability but it has to be in the same organization.
    3. Here is a good article on how to accomplish
    http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2010-database-portability-disaster-recovery/
    4. Now if you by chance have an AD backup before it went south you could build a separate network with same names etc just keep it isolated from the production server and then restore AD to that environment and you could then use DB portability.
That said if you don't have any other machines to work with then you are in a bit of a pickle and will have to use a 3rd party product to get to that data within the 2010 DB.   We make a product that can do this (DigiScope), however if you don't
have any budget to handle its a non-issue.
The only other thing you could consider is to restore your AD from a previous point in time, however BE VERY CAREFUL if you consider this since it could cause more issues then you have now.
BTW if you AD is messed up, where are you putting this new 2013 server?

    Hello,
I doubt if There are some tools tools that can extract individual mailboxes in .pst format from corrupted .edb databases.
One such tool can be downloaded from :- http://www.exchangeserverrecovery.com

We want to extract mailboxes from exchange bkf file? It there any manual method to get back mailboxes from bkf? Please suggest. It's urgent!
Don't recommend me any third party software, please!

    Hi ,
Then you could use the recovery storage group feature in exchange 2007 to extract the items from the restored backup for the selected mailboxes .

  • Recovering Data from an odb file found on a Dell X51 mobile device.

I have had a db get over written that wasn't getting backed up and now all I have to recover from is an Ora 10g LIte R2 odb file recovered from a Dell Axim X51. I am wondering what is the best way to recover this data from the odb file.
    Thank you.

If you have all your odb files + conscli.odb + polite.txt files recovered, you could try to sync the databases from another device. just install oracle lite on some other device, copy all the *.odb + polite.txt into \orace directory on the device and setup odbc.txt file according to your databases (you can use odbc.txt from the crashed device if you also restored it). Then you can try to sync the device - the modified data should be send to server.
If you wasn't able to restore the conscli.odb file, you'll probably have to write some custom application which will export the data you need...

  • Recovering material from Microsoft Works files.

I created several documents using Microsoft Works on an older Windows XP PC. They were saved on a zip drive. I opened those files on my new iMac, and it recognized that they were not in any program that my Mac had, so it used some kind of program or option to recover the words from the Works files. They were somewhat out of order, but for the most part, what I had typed was still there, and all I had to do was copy and paste and edit into Microsoft Word for Mac. But, I've recently tried again to get the rest of the material that I had not copied and pasted, and now my Mac won't do the magic it did before. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi jon28127: You might want to try an office suite called NeoOffice. It lists MS Works files as one of its file types. You can then save the files as another file type. It is free and available here: http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/download.php#download
    Hope this helps

  • ¿how to recover gb from lost music files?

i delete all the music from itunes, and from the folder of music, but in the system information says that i have 32 gb of audio, and i dont know where is all that music, i want to know if there is a hidden folder with all the music or what?
    please help =D

I guess the thread didnt help, if you are asking...
Btw, photos is one of the things I havent recovered yet. And I think in my case they were not in the backup, but this is either because photos are not stored there, or because I have overwrited the backup somehow.
I am a PC user and in my case the backup extractor couldnt read the backup either, because these files were missing. I simply copied these files from another backup (I have the latest iTunes 10 and iOs 5, and have multiple backups now, before the update I had only 1 backup - I think I was with iTunes 9 or earlier and definitely iOs4) in the folder of the corrupted backup (you have the backup location for PC in my thread linked above).
The second step is to open each of these 4 files, but I think the key file is the info.plist and maybe the manifest.plist with Notes and Find (ctrl+f) and replace the folder's name and eventual date/time with the one these files are now - the corrupted backup folder. I think the date and time were contained actually in the folder's name. You may Find in Notes the folder's name by looking for the year of the backup you have copied from the .plist files.
Now, the backup extractor program should be able to read the corrupted backup.
    Hopes this helps.

  • How to extract data from offline PDF files as batch processing

    Hello.
I want to use Adobe Interactive forms as batch processing.
    For instances,
    1. Users download offline PDF files.
    2. Users inputs data on their local PCs.
    3. Users upload these PDF files in one folder.
    4. Program can read data form PDF files on that folder. and put data to ERP at night.
I' d like to know how to implement a program with Java or ABAP.
    Regards.
    Koji.

    Hi,
It's possible to do it but first be sure that the SAP system can read the directory while your program is executed in background .
Then you have to read the content of the directory and process each file you found.
Look at this standard ABAP object cl_gui_frontend_services , you will find method for browsing a directory and retrieve list of file .
Afterwards you have to process each file , for this have a look at this wiki code sample i wrote for processing inbound mail with adobe interactive form, it should help you [Sample Code for processing Inbound Mail with Adobe Interactive Forms|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/snippets/sampleCodeforprocessingInboundMailwithAdobeInteractive+Forms]
    Hope this help you .
    Best regards.

  • Unable to create shared mailboxes from a csv file

    Hi,
I have a list of 130 shared mailboxes that I must create. So I created a CSV file like this:
    Name,Alias,OrganizationalUnit,Database,UserPrincipalName
    John Smith,jsmith,domain.com/accounts/shared,mailbox database A,[email protected]
    Mark Flone,mflone,domain.com/accounts/shared,mailbox database A,[email protected]
    ETC.....
The list is ready and it is saved.
     import-csv C:\path | New-mailbox -Shared
    the Error is the following:
"Cannot bind parameter 'Name' to the target. Exception setting "Name": "The property can't be empty."
I went into my spreadsheet and Trimmed everything, then saved and still the same error result.
    Then I tried the following:
    import-csv C:\temp\sharedMailboxCreationTest.csv | ForEach-Object {New-Mailbox -shared  -Name $_.Name  -Alias $_.Alias  -OrganizationalUnit $_.OrganizationalUnit -UserPrincipalName $_.UPN -Database $_.Database}
    The Error:
"Cannot bind argument to parameter 'UserPrincipalName' because it is an empty string."
    What am I missing here?
    Alexis

You have UserPrincipalName column heading in the csv file so this should be your cmdlet.
    import-csv C:\temp\sharedMailboxCreationTest.csv | ForEach-Object {New-Mailbox -shared  -Name $_.Name  -Alias $_.Alias  -OrganizationalUnit $_.OrganizationalUnit -UserPrincipalName $_.UserPrincipalName -Database $_.Database}

  • I recovered photos from time capsule files show but are empty

I have a macbook pro that needed a new harddrive. I backed up iphoto and put it on my new harddrive from time capsule. The photo files show up and the correct number of images but no images show up. How can I retrieve them?

We are not iPhoto experts here......they are over the iPhoto support area.
So, your best bet is to  ask over there......iPhoto
In general, you need to restore the entire iPhoto library from the Time Machine backups on the Time Capsule. It is located in your Pictures folder.
Once the iPhoto library has been restored to the Pictures folder on your Mac, you will need to "point" iPhoto at that library by holding down the option key on your Mac while you click to start the iPhoto application on the dock.
These are general guidelines, not specific instructions, which should come from the iPhoto experts.

  • Restoring deleted emails from a mailbox database edb file.

    hello all.
i have done some reading up on this subject and also covered it off in my MCSA 70-341 training. ( some time ago)
i dont deal with the exchange server often and would like to be clear before i delve into the exchange server.
a user has lost some emails, and they don't appear to be recoverable as there not in the recover deleted items either within outlook.
i cant find any trace of them on the exchange server.
sadly (1/2 my fault) the previous exchange admin never had audit logging or single item retention enabled on the mailbox so i am finding it hard to find much in the way of information to point me to the cause of the problem or recover the emails
its their "sent items" folder and oddly its only the last 2 years worth of sent items that are gone as from 2012 previous are still there
i do have an up-to-date full database backup that is currently downloading off our backup system.
i am forgetting the best method to process the recovery, can anyone point me to a guide or give me a few steps on what to do?
it is only the emails form the sent items that need to be recovered so i am thinking i need some sort of granular restore method??
    many thanks

    Hello,
There are so many third party software available in Web that can easily fix your Exchange Database issues, you can check out such  a software from here http://www.exchangerecoverytools.org . By using this software (Kernel for Exchange Server Recovery),
you can immediately repair and convert damaged EDB to PST files.

  • Export mailbox from 2010 (sp3) and import into 2007 Sp3 rollup 10

I have no issue exporting the mailbox from 2010.
The issue is importing into 2007.  I have a 2003 32 bit server with outlook 2003 sp2 running etc.  Every time I try to import I get the below error.  Is this even supported?
I've scoured the web, tried fixmapi, added permissions, different switches, etc.  The pst attaches fine to the mailbox without issues.
    [5/15/2014 8:15:51 AM] [0] [2007import2] Opening Exchange mailbox.

Any help or sugesstions would be great!

Steve I see that Belinda suggests that this may be a bug and that you are on SP3, however it may be that you need to update your systems completely to see if the issue is resolved.  To be able to find the actual patch level you are on you would need
to follow the steps below.  Once you know your actual patch level you can either just update to the latest and greatest and try again OR read through the various fixes for each patch newer then what you have applied
    1.    This is the link for the Exchange Server Build #'s including Service Packs
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/240.exchange-server-and-update-rollups-builds-numbers.aspx
    a.    Only thing you will not find in this list are the IU (Interim Update #’s) because they are unofficial patches to fix specific issues and then must be uninstalled before moving on to the next RU, CU or SP.
    2.    To find the SP, RU, CU level that your server is on use this Powershell command.
    GCM exsetup |%{$_.Fileversioninfo}
EXAMPLE 1:  Below is the result from a server with 2010 SP1 RU6 installed and you will see this referenced in the above link
Product Version         File Version          File Name
    14.01.0355.002           14.01.0355.002   C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\ExSetup.exe
EXAMPLE 2:  Below is the result from a server with 2010 SP1 RU6 installed WITH an IU from MS and you will not see this version referenced in the above link but it is sequential, i.e. SP1 RU6 is .002 and the IU is 003.  So in short by looking at this
and the above link you could easily infer that this system has SP1 RU6 with some type of IU installed.

  • How do I "restore" a Mailbox from an archive?

I know how to Archive a Mailbox (Mail > Mailbox > Archive Mailbox > choose a location to store the archive file) and it works.
But how do I restore a Mailbox from this archived file? I have not found ANY reference in the help menu about what to do with an archived mailbox and what it should be good for.
