Recovering Many Accidentally Deleted Podcasts

Hi,
I’m in big trouble here. Upon completion of playing a podcast on my Mac (not through the iPod) I deleted it. Or so I thought, but I had my entire podcast library selected when I right-clicked, selected “Delete” and clicked “Move to Trash”.
Now I have 577 deleted podcast MP3 files (a few are video, actually) in my Finder’s trash folder and I desperately want to undo this gross faux pas of mine.
I also have a nearly up-to-date copy of all those files from the overnight backup I perform using ChronoSync. I carefully and quickly unmounted my iPod (from the Finder / Desktop, not iTunes) without syncing, so apart from the few new podcasts that were pulled in when I updated my subscriptions this morning, everything is there, too.
Other than that, I've done nothing, not even quit iTunes. I can find no commands to reverse this action (I seem to recall that in the old days the Finder could reverse file deletions to the Trash, but apparently that didn’t survive into OS X.)
What are my options for recovering my podcast library? If I copy the files (and directories) back from the overnight backup, will they be properly recognized as podcasts with the appropriate subscriptions? If this is the way to repair the damage, should I quit iTunes before starting?
For the record:
iTunes 7.0.1
Mac OS X 10.4.8
iPod w/ Video / 5G, 60 GB
No paid / DRM content among the podcasts
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

William,
I should clarify that because the subscription entries in the podcast section were selected as well, they’re gone, too. From what I can tell, the MP3 files alone do not bear enough information to recreate my subscriptions, and that’s a big part of what I want to recover. If anything, I’d sacrifice the media files if I could recreate the state of my subscriptions. Downloading it all again would be time-consuming (and a few of the podcasts may have disappeared from their publishers’ sites by now), but that would be preferable to manually re-subscribing and re-downloading everything, especially since I have a varied mix of listened-to and unlistened-to podcast episodes among my subscriptions. And some podcasts I keep after listening to them and others I listen to and delete.
No, I need to restore the state of the whole podcast library, not just the individual media files.

I'm not a Mac user, but google showed this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3824044?start=0&tstart=0.  If that doesn't help, you should google "sync notes to macbook" and see if you find something that does.

The recoverable files including contacts, photos, videos, messages, notes and more.  I hope this program could help you more or less.

  • How to recover mail history of an accidentally deleted account

    Hi
I accidentally deleted a mail account and all its history.  the history is not available from the mail account server.  I don't seem to be able to recover it using Time machine recovery.  I think the only way is to try and recover the deleted mail history file but have no idea how to do this.  Is it possible for me to do this or do I need to take my imac to a specialist third party?
    Thanks

It all depends on the type of account and how it was configured. For IMAP-type accounts, mail is stored on the server, and setting up the account again is all that’s needed to regain access to your mail.
If you deleted a POP account, however, then all your mail stored locally in that account’s mailboxes has certainly been wiped out, not just moved somewhere, and you were warned that this would happen by the following alert:
    Remove Account
Are you sure you want to remove the <AccountType> account "<AccountName>"?
This will permanently delete the account setup information, mailboxes, and messages from your computer. Messages stored on the mail server will not be affected.
If the POP account was configured to leave mail on the server for some time instead of removing it right away when downloaded, incoming mail that’s still on the server can be re-downloaded by setting up the account again, just like for IMAP accounts, but keep in mind that this would only work for received (i.e. not sent) mail that has not yet been removed from the server.
If the messages are not on the server, and you don’t have a backup, your only option in the case of Mail 2.x is to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage (the files to be recovered would be different in the case of Mail 1.x). Of these, the only one I know for sure that can recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

Stop using the drive immediately, un plug it.
Buy a copy of ProSoft DataRescue 4 and use it to search for deleted files.

I accidentally deleted the documents folder (and its contents) from my ibook hard drive. Can I recover it?

It takes a really expensive data recovery service to get back things that have been deleted.
You could try Data Rescue 3, if you're desperate to get the documents back.

If you want to try this, stop using the iBook immediately, and wait until you get the recovery software because every time you save something to your hard drive (even if it's only a link in your browser history), you risk overwriting the files you deleted.

  • I accidentally deleted documents from Pages on my iphone - and now they won't show up on my mac anymore either.  I must have saved them just on icloud and not on my mac, too.  is there anyway to recover these documents?

On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved.  It's saved at:
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac.

  • Accidentally deleted a mailbox - can I recover it?

Hi all. I was going through my mail, sorting it out and what not, and I accidentally deleted some of my saved mail, which was in a mailbox (not my inbox). I'm wondering if there is an easy way to recover that data.
    Any help is much appreciated.

I'm afraid that was a bad move. If you want that data back you should try special recovery software:
Stop using your Mac a.s.a.p. as you may be overwriting essential data. Use a serious data recovery program to bring the files back. Data Rescue II is an example of such a program.
The folder you need to rescue is the folder and contents, originally residing in: userhome/library/mail/mailboxes/....

  • Accidentally deleted a playlist, how do I recover it?

I think I accidentally deleted a playlist from my iTunes. I searched the trash, could not see it. Where did it go? I thought I deleted a song from my "purchased" area and I noted that the playlist I was adding to disappeared. Can I recover this? Where do I find the files? I tried to link my iPod to see if I could move it to the computer and it disappeared from my iPod as well. I did not empty my trash.
    Thanks
    Pete

    PS
I did find in my finder section under music several previous iTunes libraries are listed, the most recent being 10-4-08. I suspect these are some sort of automatic backups that the system does. Are these accessible? If so, how do I do that? If I double click the library nothing happens.
It seems I should probably have some external drive to use as a backup should this happen again. Suggestions welcome. I assume I could rebuild my playlist, though I can not recall what was all in it!
    Thanks

Restore from a backup that was done before you deleted them.
