Recovering material from Microsoft Works files.

I created several documents using Microsoft Works on an older Windows XP PC. They were saved on a zip drive. I opened those files on my new iMac, and it recognized that they were not in any program that my Mac had, so it used some kind of program or option to recover the words from the Works files. They were somewhat out of order, but for the most part, what I had typed was still there, and all I had to do was copy and paste and edit into Microsoft Word for Mac. But, I've recently tried again to get the rest of the material that I had not copied and pasted, and now my Mac won't do the magic it did before. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Hi jon28127: You might want to try an office suite called NeoOffice. It lists MS Works files as one of its file types. You can then save the files as another file type. It is free and available here: http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/download.php#download
Hope this helps

  • Transfer my address book from Microsoft Works to Thunderbird

I want to transfer my address book from Microsoft Works on my computer to Thunderbird. I found Outlook Express much easier to deal with, but I do like Firefox.

    What version do you have?
You know that to add a addon you
first download with firefox and save it somewhere
    Then open addons in TB,
Click on the cogwheel and choose ''Install Add-on from file''
    locate your downloaded file
    and install.
I think I jumped a step. You have to EXPORT in csv using outlook's own tools.
and then IMPORT into TB using MoreFunctionsForAddressBook

  • Conv. microsoft works file

How long does is take to convert a 1mb microsoft works file to pdf.  I have been trying to convert a file, and it seems like it is taking forever.

I'm sorry, but CreatePDF does not currently support Microsoft Works files.
You can convert the following file types: text (TXT, PS, RTF), Microsoft Office (DOC, XLS, PPT, PRJ), Open Office (ODT, ODP, ODS, ODG, ODF), Star Office (SWX, SXI, SXC, SXD, STW), Word Perfect (WPD), and image files (BMP, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PNG).

  • Importing Spreadsheets from Microsoft Works

Is there any way to import Microsoft Works spreadsheets into AppleWorks? The file extension of the files I'm trying to import is .wks. I'd rather not have to recreate these sheets if at all possible. The files were created on an old Dell PC several years ago. The Dell is gone (still doing the happy dance over that!)...
When I look for them under the "file, open" command the file names of the desired files are greyed out. If I attempt to open them using Finder and double clicking, Finder tells me that the file is not supported.
I have MS Office installed on my Mac, but unfortunately I get much the same result there.
Thanks for any assistance you can give...

  • Opening Microsoft Works files in OS X

I have some files that I saved as .wps back when I was a sad little user of Microsoft Works (they didn't even give you Word with a new computer back then, the cheapskates)... I need to open them somehow on my MacBook.
Anybody have any ideas for opening them successfully? When I double-click, it gives me an option of converting "from" text, rtf, and several other formats. Of course, when I do it in text, it's mainly messed up and incomplete and rtf doesn't open at all.
    Thanks in advance, Almighty Ones.

As far as I know, there is no way to open a Works document in OS X.
That software was proprietary to Microsoft, and I believe you'll need a Windows machine to open them.

  • Recovering Data from an odb file found on a Dell X51 mobile device.

I have had a db get over written that wasn't getting backed up and now all I have to recover from is an Ora 10g LIte R2 odb file recovered from a Dell Axim X51. I am wondering what is the best way to recover this data from the odb file.
    Thank you.

If you have all your odb files + conscli.odb + polite.txt files recovered, you could try to sync the databases from another device. just install oracle lite on some other device, copy all the *.odb + polite.txt into \orace directory on the device and setup odbc.txt file according to your databases (you can use odbc.txt from the crashed device if you also restored it). Then you can try to sync the device - the modified data should be send to server.
If you wasn't able to restore the conscli.odb file, you'll probably have to write some custom application which will export the data you need...

  • Opening Microsoft Works files

I am trying to open Microsoft Works database and word processor files. I have saved them on my windows pc with the .db and .wp formats for Mac. Will AppleWorks for Mac open these files if they are in .db and .wp format?

    Hi Julie,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the AppleWorks forum.
You may find an answer in this discussion of a similar question in this forum about a year ago.

I have a new Mac Air, updated the software, downloaded Pages & Numbers but cannot open .wps documents from friends.   .wps is the format used by Microsoft Works word processor. Can anyone open .wps on Lion?

Only MsWorks opens .wps on the PC, what chance has Mac OSX got?

  • ¿how to recover gb from lost music files?

i delete all the music from itunes, and from the folder of music, but in the system information says that i have 32 gb of audio, and i dont know where is all that music, i want to know if there is a hidden folder with all the music or what?
    please help =D

I guess the thread didnt help, if you are asking...
Btw, photos is one of the things I havent recovered yet. And I think in my case they were not in the backup, but this is either because photos are not stored there, or because I have overwrited the backup somehow.
I am a PC user and in my case the backup extractor couldnt read the backup either, because these files were missing. I simply copied these files from another backup (I have the latest iTunes 10 and iOs 5, and have multiple backups now, before the update I had only 1 backup - I think I was with iTunes 9 or earlier and definitely iOs4) in the folder of the corrupted backup (you have the backup location for PC in my thread linked above).
The second step is to open each of these 4 files, but I think the key file is the info.plist and maybe the manifest.plist with Notes and Find (ctrl+f) and replace the folder's name and eventual date/time with the one these files are now - the corrupted backup folder. I think the date and time were contained actually in the folder's name. You may Find in Notes the folder's name by looking for the year of the backup you have copied from the .plist files.
Now, the backup extractor program should be able to read the corrupted backup.
    Hopes this helps.

We don't know the "query on Importing data from Microsoft Excel to Oracle Database (Multiple Data Tables). "
We don't know where you posted said query.
We don't know what "some answer and reference" you received "from the forum."
We don't know what it was that your "Oracle consultant and representative from Oracle Malaysia" said was "impossible".
So on what basis are we supposed to "help or direct" to "to an expert that can help "?

  • HT2518 How can I work with Microsoft Works files on a Mac?

I recently bought a Macbook Air (my first Mac) so everything is new to me.  I have spreadsheets and a few MS Works documents that I would like to access.  Would Pages/Numbers access these docs?  Thanks!

Works Document Viewer for the Mac can convert Microsoft Works for Windows documents. It cost a couple of bucks, but it's dead simple to use, and really, really fast. It's not an editor, though, and you'll lose some formatting in the process. Still, if you want to get the text out of your MSWorks document and into a Mac word processor (I prefer Pages), it's worth a look.

  • Recovering mailbox from offline EDB file

We went from Exchange 2003 to 2007 on a totally separate box.  During migration, some users were shown as legacy mailboxes.  They are pointing to the old server.  This old server (Windows SBS 2003) has been decommissioned and exchange has
been completely removed from the server.  I was able to look through the files and find a large EDB file which I believe houses these legacy mailboxes.    This EDB file is not mounted at all.  They reside in an archived folder which may
have been created from another administrator for backup purposes.  How can I go about pointing these users to this file or possible exporting the contents of the EDB file.  I'm not trying to spend any money on 3rd party software.  I figured
there must be a way to point to this file and/or mount it to our existing exchange server.

I've followed these steps and other found online with no luck.  I am using the Microsoft Exchange Troubleshooting Assistant.  I made sure DB was in a clean state.  Moved the DB to RSG folder and tried mounting.
I tried renaming the database to "Mailbox Database".  If I do not, when I try mounting, it does not show the actual DB name that I copied into the RSG folder.  When attempting to mount im presented with the following error: Received
the following error: Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount database. (hr=0x80004005, ec=-1213)
When creating a new RSG, it mentions "only databases from the linked storage group can be mounted in the recovery storage group".  SO I decided to move the DB's to the First Storage Group directory, thinking I would be able to pull the correct database.
Upon creation, it asks for Transaction log folder, system folder and database folder.  I tried several times to point to the recovered database file, all failing on me.  For example:
Under "Database folders and file names" shows Mailbox Database.  The Database path is pointing to the First Storage Groups Mailbox Database and the Recovery database path is pointing to the RSG folder.  However, when I try to change this to point
to the ACTUAL DB that I copied over, it wont let me create the RSG.  Only way around is the keep everything defaulted. I then copy the DB files to the RSG folder, try to mount and presented with the above error....

  • Best settings for professional printing quality .pdf from Microsoft Publisher file?

    Hello,
I have created a couble of design documents in Microsoft Publisher, and would like them professionally printed. The printer who will print them has asked me to send him the artwork as a .pdf, with crop marks, color density bars and registration marks.
I have Acrobat X Pro, and have tried to use the print AdobePDF function from within Microsoft Publisher but I am struggling to get the best quality result with all the printer marks. Can anyone suggest what are the best setting for a professional .pdf?
I have chosen 'Press Quality' print settings and that helps to make the images look good. But I cant make it work with CMYK? The Adobe printing function doesnt seem to like the 'Composite CMYK' selection needed to make the printing marks available?
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Liz

Try the "Smallest Size" Preset. As a side note, you can reduce the ppi from 300 to 150 in Image > image size (resample on) to reduce file size and keep quality.
