Recovering media from reboot loop

My Droid Incredible is stuck in a reboot loop after encountering the 2 AM reboot loop issue (this used to resolve itself after I did a hard boot in the morning). I have tried:
-Pulling the battery for 30 minutes
-Going into safe mode (doesn't load, just reboots)
-Wiping the cache partition from the HBOOT menu
I've resigned to doing a factory reset if necessary. However, I'd like to recover my photos if possible. Can I do that from the HBOOT menu? When I plug my USB cable into the phone at the HBOOT menu, the computer recognizes a device but it searches for Android 1.0 drivers and can't locate them.

While not a "safe mode" there is DFU mode. This pretty much puts a stuck phone (if not too stuck) into recovery mode which will cause iTunes to start all over with it and restore it.

You can restore from your last back up and then sync back what you want.
But if you have not synced in a long time, then you will lose anything since your last backup.

  • Can recover W510 - in reboot loop. Hard drive works OK in SL510

I walked into the room a week ago, and my wife's W510 was continuously rebooting. I tried to go into the diagnostics by pushing the blue ThinkVantage button, but it continues with the reboot loop. I pulled the hard drive and made sure the recovery partition was OK on my workstation, and it is present on the drive, and the drive appears healthy. I'm not sure exactly how the ThinkVantage button is supposed to work, but it sure doesn't break the reboot cycle.
I have made two system images over the past year, but for whatever reason, there is corruption with both of these, and I can't get the recoveries to complete. I had a spare/unused laptop drive, so I decided to rebuild the system using the new drive and a generic OEM DVD. Windows booted up OK and appears to run just fine, but the system won't activate and it tries to get me to purchase a valid Win7 license (no surprise here). The system ran a couple days just fine on the new hard drive, but now I'm trying to get the old drive back in place because of the activation issue.
I also have an SL510 laptop, so I installed the drive from the W510 into the SL510, and the SL510 booted up just fine. I expected it to blue screen.  I did "sfc /scannow" on the W510 drive on the SL510 laptop, which fixed a few problems, but this drive drive continues to cause the W510 to continuously reboot. It's a seagate drive, and the drive appears to be OK with the SeaTools utility. I've created a Windows system repair disk on the SL510 and tried to repair the W510 installation on the W510 laptop, but it still continuously reboots and I still can't get into the ThinkVantage utility. I'm about to try to create a Windows image on the SL510 and try a restore on the W510 from there, but I doubt this will help at all.
Given I don't have a Lenovo Win7 DVD, does anyone have an idea as to what I can try next?

Oops, I accidently posted this in the Labview forum.  I cc it over to the labwindows/cvi forum

  • Recover Windows 7 with Recovery Media from WXP

Created a Recovery Media from a preinstalled ThinkCentre (M58p) Windows 7. Stored on DVD including WINR.WIM total size 257 Mb. Installed Windows XP using Lenovo RnR DVD's. So far no problem.
Now wanting to know how I can recover the factory W7. Used the Recovery Media W7, Windows starts Product Recovery, selected method 'Restore to factory default state'.
Wizard asks for Product Recovery Disc 1.
I created the Recovery Media in assumption having the opportunity to restore the factory Windows 7.
Do I need the recovery disks of Lenovo for this? Does the Recovery Media only work in combination with W7 OS?
F11 starts RnR for the WXP. The recovery partition of W7 seems to be deleted by the recovery of WXP.
In the past (pre-ThinkVantage-period) I used Ghost for the original factory OS's, did work nicely.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    welcome to the forum.
Ok, so let's start from the scratch. What you have created while the Win7 was instaled was not an "image" nor a backup of your system. That was just a bootable "Rescue" disc, so that in case you cannot boot up into OS, you can boot from this CD and this will give you some options to save your date, etc.
Unfortunately on your protection I have to tell, that it is a bit harder to differ the two buttons, where one says "Create Rescue and Recovery disc" and the second one "Create recovery media". The one will create a disk, like you have. The second one will create you a new set of recovery CDs, that you could use for the restore of your system.
So in this situation, where also the original RnR Win7 partition is gone, Is the only chance to get back to Win7, to call support and ask for the Recovery CDs.
Let me know, if this post helps you. a bit.
Also feel free to asky any add question.  I'll be happy to answer them if I know the correct answer
    Cheers

  • Mac Mini, Yosemite reboot loop (** GPU Hardware VM is disabled)

I have a mid-2011 Mac Mini that has started to reboot spontaneously. I have ruled out hard drive and replaced RAM, but this is still happening. After several of these, the machine gets stuck in a reboot loop, from which it doesn't recover. I managed to get video of it in verbose mode, and the last line is:

The machine will run (seemingly) indefinitely in Safe Mode. Anyone have any ideas? This feels like it might be a GPU issue to me, but the fact is it does seem to have started since I upgraded to Yosemite.

Thanks Brett, but I'm quite well past all of the suggestions in that page. Hence my post.
The OS is not actually booting, and certainly isn't telling me it recovered from a crash. As I said in my post, "I have ruled out hard drive and replaced RAM, but this is still happening. After several of these, the machine gets stuck in a reboot loop, from which it doesn't recover."
I have filmed it in verbose mode in order to catch the last log line. I am able to run commands in single user mode.

  • Random iPhone crashes and reboot loop after iOS 7 upgrade

    Hi all
Since I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 7, I suffer from random crashes/resets, where my iPhone reboots and enters a reboot loop (Apple logo, black screen, reboot, Apple logo, black screen, reboot, etc) that I can only exit by restoring the device (resetting doesn't help).
    Some more information
    a) The device: iPhone 4, 32 GB, has never been jailbroken, and has never shown any similar issues before.
    b) The crashes/reboots: I haven't been able yet to find a pattern when and why they happen. I had reboots when searching for an app, when pluging in the wall charger, when entering the access code, and even when doing nothing at all (iPhone in my pocket). The only constant is the reboot loop after the crash.
    c) What I tried so far: I restored the device several times, using normal restore (with the iTunes logo) and DFU mode (black screen). After that, I recovered from a recent backup (takes some hours), and everything is ok again - for some hours, until the next crash and reboot loop. I also set up the device as a new phone, and there it seems stable, so I exclude a hardware issue. I tried quite a few of the advices that I found when googling for reboot loops: reset all settings (this led to an another immediate crash and reboot loop), disable app background refresh, etc.
I've been using this device for my daily business. With the current instability (and the couple of hours it takes to bring it back to life again), it became more or less useless. I wish I could downgrade again (I know that I can't). My assumption is that either iOS 7, or some incompatible app or some corrupt setting is causing this situation. But I don't know how to proceed to isolate and eliminate the issue. I really would like to avoid setting up everything from scratch again.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    All,
First of all, sorry for my half-finished post above. While typing, I was interrupted, and by reflex I hit CMD-S. Unfortunately, the stupid interface of Apple's support website interpreted that as a submit command. I tried to complete my text with the update function, but when finally hitting the submit button, I got an error message, and all my updated text was gone... No way to bring it back, and also no way to delete the half-baked posting. Quite frustrating.
Now, to complete what I started above:
In my case, the problem definitely had something to do with the springboard process (an iOS system 'app' that manages the iOS homescreens) and the watchdog process (another iOS system 'app' that monitors certain things on your phone and that can initiate a restart when it thinks the phone is frozen). In the folder '/Users/<your account>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<your phone>' I could see what caused my crashes; they were all 'stack+SpringBoard' and the reason in these crash log files was 'Watchdog timeout'.
The following two forum posts helped me:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1676330?start=30&tstart=0
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20794982#20794982
I'm quite sure that my issues had to do with the 'application map' that is mentioned in the above posts. So far, Ive been thinking that it was just too large (as in the case of Andi1996 [second link above]), but jmbladen's observation seems not to support this. So, the absolute number might not the source of the problem, but I still assume that something went wrong with my application map during the upgrade from iOS6 to iOS7. I remember having stability problems before, as soon as all my 10 home screens were full of apps and newly downloaded apps would generate additional pages (only visible via iTunes). Considering that there are some fundamental changes to how we can organize apps within folders in iOS 7, it can well be that the springboard process just wasn't able to cope with my application map correctly within the 120 seconds before the watchdog process restarts the phone. My massive cleanup action must have fixed this somehow.
@jmbladen: I'm only using iCloud for the 'find my phone' functionality, so all the backup & recovery was done via iTunes from my local harddisk. And there was no temporal pattern for my crashes before. You might suffer from the same symptoms, but probably not because of the same cause.
My advice for anyone affected by random crashes and a reboot loop is to check out the directory with the CrashReporter logs mentioned above to find out what app or process causes the crash. If it's the springboard and watchdog problem, then you should try to clean up your home screens (from iTunes). Maybe the absolute number of apps is not that important, but make sure that you reduce the number of screens. And then sync and backup before you start using the phone again. In my case it helped.
Hope this helps someone else too.
P.S. Once you know the right keywords to search for, you find forum postings back to 2008 / iOS 2 describing exactly the same problem. This reboot loop is a very nasty issue, and it is hard to understand that Apple still hasn't been able to address this, or at least provide some better help on how to get out of it again.

  • N9 Stuck in a Reboot loop

    Hey ppl
My N9 is stuck in a reboot loop
Havent done any kinda mod to the phone just installed some apps.
When the phone starts and boots up to home screen, the screen goes blank then re appears then again goes blank n re appears n then the phone restarts. In that short period when the home screen is available if i go in to settings then the phone becomes stable and works fine. But if if it goes in to sleep mode then again it restarts.
I have no clue whats wrong here. I guess i need to reflash the phone now.
If any one has done that can u plz guid me stpt by step how it can be done.
Also if you know any alternate fix.

    @iceman331
Firstly, have you tried using Nokia Suite Beta from Nokia Beta Labs to try re-installing existing device software as device put into test mode to re-install so hopefully would not go to sleep?http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/nokia-suite-beta
Whislt it may not be appreciated if I spell out chapter and verse how to carry out this procedure upon the forum I have recovered my own N9 from "Boot loop", although in my case homescreen was never available!

    -OCZ ModXstream-Pro 500W (25A, 25A, 18A) (Limitation 150W on 3.3 + 5V)
I just bought these parts from Newegg.com and assembled them last night.  When I went to test this machine this morning, it allowed me into the Bios, where I MADE NO CHANGES WHAT SO EVER.  I was just checking all the settings but making no changes.  At this point I have not plugged in my DVD-RW or Hard drives to the PSU or the Mobo.
So I exit the BIOS without saving any changes (not that I made any) and the machine reboots, the fans spin up...then it reboots again...and again..and again.
I've tried moving the memory sticks to the alternate slots...no change.  I have tried just one memory stick..no luck.
If I remove the PSU power cable and reset the BIOS, the machine will then reboot and allow me to either load default calues and continue or enter the BIOS.  If I select to load default, it will try and boot from the hard media.....but if you enter the Bios for any reason, you get trapped in an infinate reboot loop.
AGAIN, NO CHANGES FROM THE DEFAULT SETTINGS WERE MADE TO THE BIOS.  I want to be clear on that.  I also want to be clear that I have NO hard drives or CD/DVD drives hooked up either.  This also means no OS has been installed yet....this is purely a hardware issue.
I have been without a main computer for over 3 weeks so this is kind of a big deal to me.  I suspect that my 500W psu may not be big enough for this setup..

    Hi,
Reduce the memory voltage to 1.95V, disable Spread Spectrum in the Cell Menu and manually set the FSB/DRAM Ratio to 1:1.2 for testing.  This will set the memory frequency to 400 MHz (DDR2-800 effectively).  You are using factory overclocked DDR2-800 modules (DDR2-1066 @2.1V is an OC rating) on a chipset that does not natively support DDR2-1066 in the first place.  See if DDR2-800 stabilizes things.  If it does, we can go from there (you may need a BIOS Update once the system is stable and adjustion of the DDR Reference Voltage Levels may be necessary to overclock the memory to DDR2-1066.
    Jack,
Thank you very very much for your reply.  I have disabled SS and set the FSB/DRAM Ratio to 1:1.2 for testing and the RAM voltages have been lowered.  Testing now.
EDIT:  The board is still in an infinate loop cycle, with and added 'mini-powerup/down'  every 2-3 reboots now.     I've noticed that after I hit F10 and save changes, the board instantly powers down...almost as soon as I hit the enter key.
If it is my RAM causing the issues, what RAM should I look at getting that is known to be rocksolid with this board?

Computer goes in an endless reboot cycle. First, showing a black screen with small parallel white hash marks. Can pull up Bios but that’s as far as I can go. At first, I thought the high end Geil memory might be at fault. But after installing the more generic Kingston I get the same looping.
In Bios, it is reading all my hardware; CPU, memory, hard drives, temperatures, voltages, etc. the only thing it doesn’t specifically show is the Evga video card. I don’t know if there is really any place it would show except in Hardware Profile.
One other thing, Bios is showing the NEC as the Primary IDE Master and the Maxtor as the Secondary IDE master (although I have tried it both ways). I generally like to boot first from my DVD then go to hard drive.
I don’t know where to go from here. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

With JUST new Sata drive & DVD I get message "Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device & press a key" in other words, install windows. No flashing anything.
    To Maesus
Yes, have tried boot sequence every which way  . DVD functions as I ran Memtest for 4 hours last night.
I think I will use the information mentioned in the 3 links V gave me earlier to "repair" the OS on my old Maxtor drive. It is partitioned with OS in one area by itself, docs in another partition, programs another, etc. so I wouldn't lose any work. At worst, I might have to reinstall some programs. At best, I accomplish what I set out to do.
    Many thanks,

  • Intel iMac stuck in reboot loop

Since the last few days, my 6 month old Intel iMac is stuck in a reboot loop.

    Total Number of Cores:          4
OS: 10.6.8 (with patches applied as they become avaliable)
It is connected to a UPS at all times.
I always put it to sleep at night. Sometimes it stays in the Sleep mode for a couple of days (i travel and wife does not use for some time). But it always would "wake" up from Sleep on a keyboard touch. Magic mouse battery died a few days ago, so put in a new pair of battery, had the usual problem of "pairing", fixed that and continued on.
(Coincidentally, it almost also marks where my problems started).
Now, when i press any key, the iMac reboots. And then just before it looks like it will show the wallpaper, it reboots. and this continues on - sometimes 10-15 times. I press the power key and switch it OFF. Press the power key again, no go - stuck in the reboot loop. Run the Apple Hardware Test (exhaustive one included - it reports no issue found). Do a SMC reset (take off the power cord from the back of the iMac for 35 seconds) and put it back. Switch off the mouse and attach a USB mouse and press the Shift key to boot into the Safe mode. This works! Installed Pacifist to check for any non-Apple kernel extensions, none found...
Since AHT reports all fine - can hardware be ruled out?
Could it be the magic mouse? Need to try it (just wary of the reboot loop )?
If it is the mouse, is it covered in the 12 month initial warranty (I am in India)?

  • HT6114 Reboot loop after 10.9.2 upgrade

My 2009 (dual-quad) Mac Pro 4,1 is now stuck in a reboot loop after upgrading from 10.9.1 to 10.9.2.
//edit: I realized there wasn't a question: What is wrong with my computer and how do I fix it?
    So far I have tried:
    * Repairing the disk
    * Repairing permissions
    * Zapping the NVRAM/PRAM
    * Resetting SMC
    * Copying BootCache.playlist from a backup to /var/db
Other things to note about my setup:
In addition to the original hard drive, I installed a 4tb drive from which I have been working with since June. It is the 4tb drive that has 10.9.2 installed. The original 650gb still has 10.8.4 installed and all my original data pre-June.
Also installed is a VisionTek Radeon 7870 video card which powers my numerous monitors. I do not recall having to install anything extra, or modify any settings to get it to work. The only downside is you can't really see anything when booting.
In addition to the VisionTek card I also have one of the factory Geforce 120 cards installed. Using another monitor attached to that card I've been able to monitor the boot process using the command-v verbose output.
Of notable interest I get the dreaded "BootCache: unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist : 2" error, along with a few SMC errors. If these are important I can attach pictures taken of the boot process.
I am able to zap the NVRAM and boot the old 10.8.4 650gb drive. It loads fine. 10.9.2 will not boot into safe mode, but will boot into recovery mode.
As a final attempt to fix the BootCache error I copied it from a Time Machine backup into /var/db/ ensuring the correct permissions were set. After rebooting the file is deleted again.
I would greatly appreciate any help on this issue as this is my work computer. I do have full backups via Time Machine so I can reinstall, but I'm hoping there's another solution.

I just started a discussiion related to this topic in "Mac Pro."
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/25019730#25019730
" I have a 2009 dual quad core Mac Pro (4.1) with an upgraded Radeon 7950 GPU. I use a 30" Apple Cinema display (DVI) and  a 27" LED Cinema Display (Display Port). After updating to 10.9.2, the Mac would not boot, but went on a continuous re-boot cycle every 5-10 minutes without a flicker of life in either display. I unplugged both displays and the Mac booted. I could log in remotely from my laptop. I then attached the 30" Cinema Display into the DVI port and the Mac booted normally."

    Hello jared1915
If you are stuck in that loop, the next step would be to restore your iPhone. Check out the article below to get your iPhone into recovery-mode and restore it in iTunes.
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • I was told by itunes my phone needed an update to 6.1.2.  I did it, and now my phone is stuck in a reboot loop, and no wifi, phone, or bluetooth.

I connected my 3gs to my computer, and got a popup from itunes saying there was an update for my phone.  Well i like to keep everything up to date, so I did the update.  After it completed, I no longer have phone, Wifi, and bluetooth.  It also is stuck in a reboot loop.  I really do not know what I can do.  I tried to restore it as a new phone, since i had all my data backed up.
Any help or ideas is greatly appreciated.

I checked the hosts file, and there is nothing refering to gs.apple.com.  Should there be?
Is it possible to restore it back to 6.1?
No problem; it's just that many people buy what they think are "factory unlocked" phones, but the "factory" is the back room of the shop where they bought it.
gs.apple.com should not be in the hosts file (the only reason it might be there is if some hacking tool had been used on the computer in the past; not just jailbreaking tools, but tools to downgrade the OS and perform other unsupported functions).
You cannot restore back to 6.1; you need to resolve the problem with the latest version. Even if you could revert it would not solve the problem. You need to figure out why iTunes can't communicate with the activation servers. If you have another computer, try restoring on that, or take the phone to an Apple store and let a "genius" deal with it. Or, if your antivirus is Kaspersky, delete it completely, as it's impossible to turn it off completely, and it has taken a dislike to things Apple.

  • Power button not working - reboot loop

Bought a new iPhone 5S last week, activated it and used it 2-3 hours. It had iOS 7.0.4. I updated to 7.0.6 and everything is working for 2-3 hours again.
Now the power button is just no more working. I reset the configuration back to default and the phone is now in a reboot loop. It is not shutting down correctly, it shows this small animated circle. I cannot turn it off or bring it to the DFU mode because the power button is not working.
iTunes cannot find the iPhone when I connect it - I guess because it is already in a undefined status.
What can I do to fix it? It seems to be a hardware / physical problem because I can hear the normal sound when I click the power button.
I guess I need to return it to an apple store ?!

I waited until the battery was empty; the phone was empty now, I charged it via Macbook and after 5 minutes it started automatically again without problems. Now I made a reset via iTunes and will change it in the Apple Store. It is working perfect now from point of stability, speed, configuration, functions - only the power button does just not react in ayn case.

  • HELP!!! MBA will not boot. It's in a constant "reboot loop!"

Hi! I was having issues with my MBA and it's well known problem with getting a bit hot and shutting down the core etc. One post mentioned coolbook. Several peole gave it the thumbs up so I decided to give it a try. Installed it and was asked to restart. Now my MBA is in a constant reboot loop and will not start-up. it gets as far as the gray screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel. Then about a minute or so later it reboots. And this goes on and on forever. The MBA is now insanely hot and I have turned the MBA off not to cause any damage.
I can not boot in safe mode.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!

thanks for the views, but seems nobody wanted to help. cheers for that!
i managed to reboot using the OS X DVD and reinstalling. Now I have an eject symbol in my system bar top right corner and my superdrive will not "eject". this means I can not use the USB for anything else. meanwhile I ejected the OS X DVD from the drive and tried to reinsert it. NADA.
Getting to the point where I am fed up with the MBA. It gets so hot I could fry an egg on it. The system must be running something in the background, becasue even with a new install it still is slow and stutters (and no, I did not start you tube!) either this is from a real crappy batch, or I looked at it the wrong way.
Looks like I am heading back to the MBpro.

  • WLC 5508 7.4.100.0 HA standby reboot loop

    Hi.....
We have been running two 5508 WLCs in HA mode for a while now connecting 25 2602 APs. We disconnected the heartbeat utp cbale to change the positision of the standby WLC in the rack. We did not power it off. After we plugged back the Heartbeat cable the standby WLC goes into a reboot loop and gives the following error message
Error:Unable to add Licenses on secondary Controller
Now I did not try to reboot the primary one as users are connected and am afraid I will have two WLCs down instead of one. From what I have been reading it seemed that several HA issues were resolved in code 7.4.100.0...
I hope there is simple fix/workaround for this situation.
    All help is appreciated

    Hello,
As per your query i can suggest you the following  solution -
This document provides information on the theory of operation and configuration for the Cisco Unified Wireless LAN Controller (WLC) as it pertains to supporting stateful switchover of access points (AP SSO).
The new High Availability (HA) feature (that is, AP SSO) set within the Cisco Unified Wireless Network software release version 7.3 allows the access point (AP) to establish a CAPWAP tunnel with the Active WLC and share a mirror copy of the AP database with the Standby WLC. The APs do not go into the Discovery state when the Active WLC fails and the Standby WLC takes over the network as the Active WLC.
There is only one CAPWAP tunnel maintained at a time between the APs and the WLC that is in an Active state. The overall goal for the addition of AP SSO support to the Cisco Unified Wireless LAN was to reduce major downtime in wireless networks due to failure conditions that may occur due to box failover or network failover.
For more information please refer to the link-

    Hope this will help you.
