Recovering missing & merged files
I accidentally merged 2 folders in my Mac finder. The files are no longer on my camera, and I cannot unmerge the folders in finder. The pictures are labeled missing in Lightroom. Is there anyway to export the missing 'ghost' picture from lightroom? The 'ghost' / missing file in Lightroom is the only place that I can find a copy of the picture. Please help; I want these photos back so badly!
Thank you
Do you understand the difference between a System Recovery and System Restore?
If you performed a destructive System Recovery, it would have created an "out of the box" experience. No data files of any kind. No installed (by you) programs.

How to recover missing desktop files?
While in Adobe Bridge, my friend accidently dragged his User folder to the Shared User folder (the graphics pen sorta grabbed it withouthim noticing). He tried to drag it back out of Shared, but it said it couldn't be modified. So he rebooted, and it started up with his own user being as if new, with none of his files or prefs. So then he tried dragging his desktop, docs folders, etc back from Shared to where they belonged in his user. That worked for everything except the Desktop. When he tried to copy that,it asked if he wanted to replace the existing (blank) desktop with the one from the shared folder, which showed all his desktop files. But when he okayed it, the resulting desktop was blank. He doesn't know if he accidently overwrote in the wrong direction (he doesn't think so), or if something else happened. He's a photographer and had hundreds of edited image files in folders on the desktop- so all his recent work since a back up a few weeks ago is gone. Spotlight cannot find any of them by name, nor any other desktop files but the new blank one. so the files are at least not visible, if not gone. Here's the thing: if you run Terminal and look at the desktop file, it shows 2,064 items... which might be his files (?). But i have no idea how to get at them. Nothing shows in the Desktop trash hidden file. Is there anything short of expensive recovery software that might find these files, which are probably not overwritten yet? (he's being careful not to use the drive so that they don't get overwritten)
Trying to diagnose something like this third hand probably isn't very effective. But when you open Terminal you are "in" your home directory. If you then issue this command:
cd Desktop
and hit return you will then be "in" your Desktop folder. If you then issue the list command:
ls -al
you will get a list of all the files and folders that are in the Desktop folder. If he sees everything, then the stuff is there. He could try creating a new folder in his home folder, call it something like fromDesktop, and then issue this command (this assumes he is still "in" the Desktop folder):
mv * ~/fromDesktop
This will move everything from the Desktop folder into the fromDesktop folder. A list command will verify things:
ls -al ~/fromDesktop
If all his stuff is listed, but he still can't see it in its new location using the Finder, then it could be that somehow the invisible bit got set.
And for Finder's sake, tell him to stop saving all that stuff to the Desktop! Put stuff in folders in his home folder. I've seen cases where excessive numbers of files dropped on the Desktop brought the Finder to its knees for many hours. Every single thing on the Desktop is treated as a window by the Finder, and having a ton of stuff there is needlessly slowing things down. And he should be backing up every night, not every couple of weeks. There are many programs available that will do this automatically. If he is in business he should be using one. Not to mention burning separate CDs of things for every client.

Merging files and alert if file missing?
Hi experts.
I have a situation when I will pickup 5 files from different systems.
The files will be merged into one file and have no problems with that I can use append in the file adapter.
But here coems the problem. The merged file will be sent to the SAP sysmet at a specific timesrtamp and if a file i missing then we should send an alert or mail to notify the organisation that the file is missing.
The notification has to be sent to the correct person according to what file is missing.
We are using PI 7.40 Java only.
Is the only way to go the new BPM?
Is there anybody who has a guide on how to setup the new BPM?
Regards
AndreasHi Raj,
Raj Says..
my doubt is Java map take input of all files as input or only one file it takes input.??
Java Mapping will take one input file at a time as its input file and will process it.
For three files at source folder; Java Mapping will be called threee times in XI.

Recover a Director file?
Hi there
Recently a client has come back to us to do revisions on a project we worked on years ago. To our horror we discovered that the french version and all the source files are missing and are unable to recover it. Now we still have the projector files and doing some searching online i discovered that it is possible to recover the .dir out of it but the file itself is locked (and i guess this is questionable method).
Is there a way to recover some of the contents or am i doomed to tell the client about the missing source files ? All i need is the graphical content since i still have the source files for the english version..
Any help would really be appreciated!Here is a Director MX 2004 movie: http://nonlinear.openspark.com/tips/other/Cracker2004.zip. Open the movie as a MIAW, then click on the the button. It will ask you to choose a protected movie to open. It may ask you to create more castLibs for the movie on the Stage, and to change the number of sprite channels. If all goes well, it should retrieve all the original media for you, except for scripts and shockwave3d members.
I have not tested this with Director 11.x. I do not guarantee that it will work in your case.
I trust that no-one will use this tool in any way that any other developer might find unacceptable. -
Setup
Windows XP SP3 + Office 2007 Pro
Also, tested on Windows 7 64x + Office 2007 Pro
Same Issues.
The steps used are:
1) Open Adobe Acrobat 9.0
2) Click File
3) Combine
4) Merge Files into a single PDF
5) Add Files (select the required files)
6) Combine Files (which then processes and creates single PDF)
Results:
A single PDF is then created and as mentioned is occasionally affected by this issue of random gaps appearing within words.
Expected results:
A single PDF with the same formatting and layout as the original files.
I can not post screenshots of this issue for sercurity concerns but here is an example.
From my word document / or pdf (either way)

Note: Tested this issue with Acrobat 8, and did not have this issue.
Please Help

I have checked though the Word documents that were used in the most recent merge. They don't have any spaces at these areas or strange formatting. I turned on the Show/Hide option to confirm if there was anything odd but I could not see anything. The formatting (Ctrl+D) shows the default font Arial, Regular, font 12.
The interesting thing is that if it occurs and attempt another file merge the gaps are no longer there. Which makes me think this is unlikely to be the documents and formatting being used and more likely to be a bug in Adobe Acrobat.
Is there anything else that might be of use to know? -
Background: I started this blog while living overseas and going to sea with the Navy. Missed the opportunity to move the iWeb files with content attached from the mobile.me server to another server. Now, I have the original web archive files - good - but not the comments added to them by family and friends - bad.
My ultimate objective is to create a hard-cover bound book of these files with the comments on the blog ... they document a rather significant experience in my family's life ... to do this, I need to recover the original files with postings.
Any thoughts or insight would be sincerely appreciated!
Thanks, cfwnavyYou have replied to a post that is a month old now and the OP has never replied, so you are probably wasting your time here.
If you read the OP's post and my reply, you will see that he will not be able to recover his blog and neither will you.
If your Mac was stolen and you did not back up your iWeb domain.sites files, then you CANNOT get your blog back.
If you published your site to a host/server, then you can download it back onto your Mac and you will have to re-build your blog/website from scratch and re-publish, but all your replies and responses to posts will be lost and you can never get these back.
My advice would be to re-create your blog in another format such as WordPress.com which is free and don't use iWeb again.
There are plenty of alternatives out there. -
Distorted text when trying to merge files into single pdf
I am trying to merge several pdf documents into a single pdf. The pages are all distorted with missing words and random characters appearing here and there. I have combined these pages successfully using 'Assemble files into a PDF package' so I know the files are okay. Trying 'Merge files into a single pdf' is what creates the problem. I have tried this on Acrobat 8.0 and also 10. It is the same in both cases.
Help please!Hello again. I took the long weekend off, so haven't replied for a while.
While trying to set up a few documents out of the package I wanted to create, I discovered that there
is only one file that is causing the problem.
The biggest problem is that it is a confidential financial file, and I'm loathe to put it up on the web.
I'm going to try to re-create the file without the confidential part, then send it to this forum. I can't
figure out why it should cause problems when all the others don't and they have all been created by
the same person with the same version of Office.
So thanks for your help so far. I really appreciate the quick response from a couple of you. I will get back to you. -
Unable to combine opened PDF files to create onr merged file...
Hi:
Using acrobat 8 under Vista.
In version 7 of Acrobat Pro, I was able to merge all of my opened PDFs documents to create a single PDF. I do not see that option in Acrobat 8, is it gone? Now I have to insert every page in another one to merge the files. What am I missing?
Thanks,
LukeIf you do a search of the help in Acrobat with "merge files" you come up with at least 2 different solutions.

2 of my database file were lost due to hardware failure. (the datafile do not belong to SYSTEM TABLESPACE) and and the second was datafile for undo tablespace.
I created control files with command not mentioning the lost datafiles:

Missing MSI files SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3
I have hit an issue while installing Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 R2. The existing version is
10.50.4295.0 (SP2+CU9)
When running the SP3 file the following error occurs
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
The cached MSI file 'C:\Windows\Installer\91a4f43.msi' is missing.
Its original file is 'sql_engine_core_inst.msi' and it was installed for product 'SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 Database Engine Services' from '\\ServerName\Share$\SQL\SQL105\ENT\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\', version '10.52.4000.0', language 'ENU'.
To resolve this problem, recover the missing file from the installation media and start setup again.
For more information about how to resolve this problem, see 'Steps to restore the missing Windows Installer cache files' (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=144387) in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
Error code 0x84B20002.
The next I tried to remove CU9 before applying SP3. The following error occurred when CU 9 was attempted to be removed.
The cached patch file 'C:Windows\Installer\483c7040.msp' is missing.Hello Alberto,
I tried this link
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969052
Using the VB script FindSQLInstall I tried getting some details about the missing MSI files. Just sharing the details incase you may have some details or better insight on what it says.
!!!! C:\Windows\Installer\91a4f43.msi DOES NOT exist in the Installer cache. !!!!
Action needed, recreate or re-establish path to the directory:
\\Servername\Sharename$\SQL\SQL105\ENT\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\then rerun this script to update installer cache and results
The path on the line above must exist at the root location to resolve
this problem with your msi/msp file not being found or corrupted,
In some cases you may need to manually copy the missing file or manually
replace the problem file overwriting it is exist:
Copy "\\Servername\ShareName$\SQL\SQL105\ENT\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi\sql_engine_core_inst.msi" C:\Windows\Installer\91a4f43.msi
It points to a location that doesn’t exist in the central server (servername) from where usually the installation media is present. The folder structures were re-arranged and the path mentioned (\\Servername\ShareName$\SQL\SQL105\ENT\x64\setup\sql_engine_core_inst_msi)
is no longer there.
Now from where do I copy this particular .MSI file? I've tried using search option but I'm unable to find it.
One more update is that I was successfully able to do the SP3 upgrade on another server which was SQL Server 2008R2 SP2 (No CU on it)
Hi Jayakrishna,
After your above steps, please put the SQL Server setup media on the same path
\\Servername\Sharename$\SQL, then run the VB script again and it will recreate the MSI file on the path C:\Windows\Installer with the name “91a4f43.msi“.
If the error still occurs, then you can manually restore the missing MSI file following the steps of Procedure 2 in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969052 .
In addition, we recommend you use local copy of media to install SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3.
Thanks,

Alert Entry for Missing Data File
I am trying a simple recovery scenario: deleting a data file of a normal tablespace when the database is running, and the data file has been backed up.
Before shutdown, checkpoint completes normally (I guess Oracle still keeps the file inode handle). When I select from dba_data_files, error occurred:
SQL> alter system checkpoint;
System altered.
SQL> select count(*) from dba_data_files;
select count(*) from dba_data_files
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01116: error in opening database file 10
ORA-01110: data file 10: '/u01/oradata/data01.dbf'
ORA-27041: unable to open file
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional information: 3To my surprise, nothing was recorded in the alert log. And no trace files generated in udump. And Oracle refused to restore the datafile when it was running.
Message appeared in alert log when I try to shutdown the database. After shutdown abort (Oracle refused to shutdown immediate) and restart instance, I was able to restore and recover the data file.
Is this the expected behaviour? If so, how would you detect missing datafiles when db is running?
Oracle: 9.2.0.6, OS: RHEL31. It wasn't detected by the checkpoint caused by a switch logfile because the file isn't actually missing. As others -inded you!- have said, on Unix/Linux, you can delete a file at any time, but if the file is in use, the inodes remain allocated and the process using it continues to see it very much as there. Because, at the inode level, it absolutely IS still there! Incidentally, it was pointless telling you to do a switch logfile, because as far as datafiles are concerned, that doesn't do anything the alter system checkpoint command does that you'd already tried.
I used to do demos of how to recover from the total loss of a controlfile in Oracle University classes: I'd do a flurry of rm *.ctl commands, and then dramatically issue the checkpoint command... and nothing at all happened. Very demoralising first time I did it. Issue a startup force, however, and at that point the inodes are released, the files really are deleted and the startup falls over in the nomount state. Bouncing the instance was the only way I could get the database to protest about the removal of a datafile, too.
2. No, if a file went missing in a way that Oracle could detect, it wouldn't matter if the file was empty, because it cares about the presence/absence of the datafile headers. They have to be updated, even if nothing else does.
3. It would only be in the alert log if SMON detected the lost file at startup (one of its jobs is, explicitly, to check for the existence of all files mentioned in the control file). CKPT wouldn't raise an alert, because as far as it's concerned, nothing's wrong. The inodes are still held, after all. Your attempts to create tables and so on inside the lost file do generate display errors because (I think) at that point it's your server process that is attempting to do things to the file, not CKPT or other pre-existent, permanently-running background processes.
4. It's specific to Unix, anyway, of which Linux is a variant. -
False positive critical alert from OEM: number of missing media files is 7
Hi all,
We were a bit stunned here as we got a page from OEM that the number of missing media files is 7! We ran the query only to find that there are none missing. One of the SR. DBA's said he thought he remembered seeing this months ago and it cleared itself soon after.
SELECT COUNT(FILE#)
FROM V$DATAFILE_HEADER
WHERE RECOVER ='YES'
OR ERROR IS NOT NULL;
After running that to verify the count is 0 (no missing files or corrupt files) I then looked in OEM at the alert and clicked the hyperlink to the graph that shows a spike to 7 then immediately went away so I assume this is some but in 10.2.0.4?
Thanks,
DaveMissing Media File Count metric represents the count of missing media files.
You can remove it from monitoring template if don't need.
Here is with screenshots demonstrated that:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gEMR2/Quick_Start/system_monitoring/system_monitoring.htm
But basicaly under this message is select:
SELECT count(file#)
FROM v$datafile_header
WHERE recover ='YES' OR error is not null;

How to Recover an Excel File for Free
Check the Recycle Bin--if you've accidentally deleted the file, it should still be there unless you've emptied the bin, and you can click on the file and
recover it.
Use the Auto Recovery Pane when you open Excel. Review the document recovery pane. If Excel has managed to recover your file, it will show in a separate
pane on the left-hand side. Identify your document in the pane, then click on it and choose "Open" to open the recovered file.
Try manually repairing the file. Click on "File" in Excel 2003 or the "Office" button in
Excel 2007, then select "Open" and click on the arrow next to the "Open" button. Click on
"Open and Repair" and choose from two options: click on "Repair" if you want to try to completely recover the file, or click on "Extract
Data" if you previously tried Step 1 and it did not work.
Search for the file manually on your computer. When performing a system search (click "Start" and select "Search" in Windows XP and
Windows 2000, or press the "Windows" button and "F" key in Windows 7 and Vista), make sure you choose "Advanced Search Options" and then check the "System and hidden files" check box. You may be able to find your missing

# Online tempfiles have complete space information.
# Other tempfiles may require adjustment.

# End of tempfile additions.Please either add a tempfile or else if you have two temporary tablespaces(say temp01 & temp02) with associated tempfiles and let us assume TEMP01 is the default tablespace for the database(by seeing the database_properties view) then please drop the TEMP02 tablespace and re-create it and then make TEMP02 as default tablespace for the database and then drop the TEMP01 tablespace and re-create it and then make it as the default temporary tablespace .. Thats the solution and hope its clear... you can go through following steps :
SQL> select tablespace_name, file_name from dba_temp_files;
SQL> drop tablespace temp02 including contents and datafiles;
SQL> create temporary tablespace temp02 tempfile ''X:\ORACLE\ORADATA\PROD\temp02.tmp' size 16383M;
SQL> alter database default temporary tablespace TEMP02;
SQL> drop tablespace temp01 including contents and datafiles;
SQL> create temporary tablespace temp01 tempfile ''X:\ORACLE\ORADATA\PROD\temp01.tmp' size 16383M;
SQL> alter database default temporary tablespace TEMP01;
Cheers!
