Recovering playlist in iTunes from iPhone

iTunes crashed on me and i lost all my playlists, i had setup a special playlist to sync to my iPhone but it's gone now and it took several hours to set it up and get all the album art and everything. Is there any way to restore that playlist back from my iPhone?

Hi SKoy,

If the existing playlist is a regular (non-smart) playlist, then you can edit it directly on the iPhone. Just select the playlist and you should see an "Edit" button at the top, above the songs.  If you don't see that, then it must be a smart playlist since those can't be edited on the device. Once you tap the Edit button you would then navigate to the song you want to add and press the blue + sign to the right of the song, then press Done when you're finished.
One caveat though, if you auto-sync your iPhone, the changes you make will not be preserved -- the playlist will revert to how it was next time you sync to iTunes.  So if you want to edit a playlist on your iPhone and then transfer it to iTunes, you have to create a new (empty) playlist on your iPhone, add the playlist that you wanted to edit to the new playlist, then add or delete more songs to the new playlist.  When you auto-sync, the new playlist will transfer to your iTunes library.
But if you manually manage your iPhone, the playlist should remain in its edited state even if you connect to your library (but admittedly its been awhile since I tried manual mode).

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • Update playlists in itunes from ipod

Does anyone know how to update playlists in itunes from an ipod nano? I have been updating my ipod playlists (i.e. removing unwanted songs, duplicate songs, etc) but now I don't know how to copy these modified playlists back onto itunes. I have read about Yamipod and other programs, but I don't want to copy the actual files back onto my computer, just the playlists! Any suggestions?

"I have been updating my ipod playlists (i.e. removing unwanted songs, duplicate songs, etc) but now I don't know how to copy these modified playlists back onto itunes."
You must have been doing this through iTunes and with the iPod set to manual transfer since there is no way to modify playlist in the manner you describe directly on the iPod.
You cannot transfer any playlist info back to iTunes from the iPod without using something such as Yamipod.
Or you will have to modify the playlists manually in iTunes to match those on the iPod.

There is no way to "convert" Safari into Windows.   And very unlikely for a hacker to get into a Mac.
But, ok, your system is all messed-up somehow.
First, what version of OSX is on your Mac?  If you don't know, click the Apple icon at the upper-left of the screen and select About This Mac.  You'll see a display like this:
    We need the Version number.
Second question: do you have backups made with Time Machine (on an external HD or the like) that you want to restore, or do you want to start your Mac over fresh, the way it came from the factory?
p.s. i dont have the disc it came with , my daughter set it up for me to get started !
You may need that, depending on what version of OSX you're running, to restore the backups or start fresh.
You really should have a copy of the original disc, as there's an Apple Hardware Test on it, tailored to the hardware on that Mac. You'll need it it there's ever a problem.  If your daughter can't send it,  call AppleCare (800-275-2273),and  give them your serial number -- they can send you a replacement for a nominal fee.
Sorry, but it's late here, and I'm going to bed, but will be back tomorrow.

  • Trouble restoring my playlists to iTunes from either my external hard drive or time machine

    Hi,
I've been trying to restore my playlists to iTunes from either my external hard drive or time machine, but have had no success so far. I seem only to have .itl files in both places.  When I restore iTunes to a previous date, none of the playlists reappear.  Same when I try to restore from my back up (though I'm not positive I am doing this proper.y)
I've tried restoring and then importing the itl files to itunes, but I keep getting a message saying 'The file “iTunes Library.itl” cannot be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file.'  This message appears when importing from my time machine and my hard drive.
I am desperate to get my playlists back as many, many hours of love have gone into them.  Please help!  Thanks!

Correction, I can't locate any .itl files in my external hard drive...

  • Problem syncing voice memos to ITunes from IPhone 4?

Recorded Voice Memos will not sync to Voice Memos in ITunes. After connecting the IPhone, I tried Transferring Purchases, then Backup, but they do not appear in the ITunes library. Have been having this issue since latest update on 25/4/2014. I tried unticking and reticking reference to Voice Memos under Music.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated

    Hi mallee fowl,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand you are trying to transfer Voice Memos to your iTunes Library. On the Summary pane in the sync settings make sure your Manually manage music and videos in not check marked and when you sync your iPhone a playlist should be created called Voice Memos in iTunes. Please use the following article for reference.
    iPod: Recording voice memos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2396
    Synchronize
If iPod is set to update songs automatically and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically downloaded to a playlist in iTunes when you connect iPod. Once downloaded, the voice memos are removed from the Voice Memos folder on your iPod. To play the voice memos that have been synchronized to your computer in iTunes, select the Voice Memos playlist on the left side of the iTunes window. To play the synchronized voice memos on the iPod, select the Voice Memos playlist in the Music menu, not the Voice Memos menu in the Extras menu.
    I hope this helps,

  • Recovering missing iPhoto photos from iPhone 5

Hi, I reindexed my iPhoto library as I was missing photos. Now it seems I have lost more photos! I have my entire iPhoto library sync'ed with my iPhone 5. Is it possible to sync. from iPhone to iPhoto in an attempt to recover the photos? I am worried if I sync. my device with itunes as I normally would that the sync will go the other way and I will lose these photos forever. Can anyone help me? Adam

Try the following. It will create a library with all original files that are in your Originals folder. You can then see if there are photos in the Originals folder that your current library is unable to detect and dispay.
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
Also you can use Image Capture to manually upload all photos from your iPhone to a folder on the Desktop.
You should be able to import the folder into the library while excluding duplicates and get any photos that are currently missing.

  • Playlist copying (iTunes to Iphone) not reliable

    Hi,
I've got problems with copying playlists from iTunes to iPhone:
    Problem
When copying playlists from iTunes to iPhone, I encounter three problems
    - some playlists do not copy
    - some songs do not copy
    - And it gets stranger, in some cases the songs or playlists do actually copy, but are not visible in either Musc App or other Player Apps when on iPhone, BUT are vislble and playable when the iPhone is attached via cable to my computer. i.e. I can play those playlists / songs from my iPhone when whithin iTunes.
I can somehow get this resolved in some cases by again and again copying and synching, individual songs or entire playlists, but there is just no clear pattern of how I can copy playlists reliably.
    How I copy playlist
    I 'manually manage music'
I copy playlists by simply dragging them onto the iPhone in the sidebar
    Configuration
    MacBook Pro
    OS Mavericks
    iTunes 11.1.3. (8)
With around 20  'normal' playlists, containing around 20 songs (music, not podcasts) each.
I am not using music match.
Songs are mp3 from CDs not purchased via iTunes
    Playlist are not smart playlists
    I am not using musicmatch
Backup is against Computer, not iCloud
    iPhone
    iPhone 4
    iOS 7.0.4
    Apple Music App
Currently thereare around 1.15 GB free space on the iPhone
Has anyone any explanation why this could be the case and how to resolve this?
    Any help greatly appreciated
    m

I have the same problem, I also can't set "remember play back position" for my files on the newest iTunes.
Does your seekbar in the music app also stutter by any chance?

  • Recovering playlists in itunes

can I save the xml file folder from my old emac to a cd and import it into itunes on my new imac so I can get my playlists back? What will happen if I just copy the xml folder to a cd, then import it into itunes on the new computer? I have about 300 playlists.
Here's what happened: I got a new imac, and now I have all 10,000 of my songs on my new imac in the itunes library. However, there are no playlists. The playlists are still on my old emac. I want to copy the xml folder to a cd and then import the cd into itunes on my new imac.....is it possible?

You should be able to recover playlists and metadata (e.g., ratings and playcounts) by forcing iTunes to rebuild the information in the iTunes Library file -- which is the database of songs and playlists that iTunes itself uses -- from the iTunes Music Library.xml file. You can do this by editing the iTunes Library file and deleting all of its contents. Deleting the iTunes Library file does not work, because iTunes will simply generate a new file that is appropriate for a newly created iTunes with no previous contents. If you're using all the same defaults, so that the music files are in the same directory, and your user account name is the same on the new computer, you can use the original xml file. Otherwise, you will have to edit the iTunes Music Library.xml file in Text Edit (or any hex editor) first, to correct the pathnames to the music files with Find and Replace.
If your Music Library fits on your iPod, Apple gives instructions on How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer, which doesn't require manipulating the above files. You might alternatively be able to use the iPod.iTunes software.
There are a few posts from the iLounge forums that might help:
Making iTunes use new library location without losing metadata outlines the process described above
Restoring iTunes to a new disk while preserving metadata is from a thread about recovering an iTunes Library onto a new computer from a backup (which should also work; read the whole thread).
Transferring files to a new computer shows how to get your iTunes working with direct file transfers (like from backup)
Transferring iTunes Library from PC to Mac outlines the same process described above, but cross-platform.

How do I recover a deleted photo from the iPhone 4?

You don't need to sync or use itunes.
I only know that software for windows.

  • HT3529 How to recover deleted text messages from iphone using iPhone

I'm trying to recover text messages I deleted on my iPhone4s. Is it possible?
Is it possible to do with out using a computer. If possible I'd like to recover the messages using my iPhone.

If the backup is made after the messages were deleted, then you won't be able to get them back via an iTunes restore. However, you may be able to use a third-party program to look at the backup made after the messages were deleted and see what information about those messages is recoverable.
One program, the one I work on, is called Decipher TextMessage. Our software will scan the text-message database and show you what information (whole and incomplete) was found that has been previously deleted. We've had a lot of success helping folks recover their deleted text messages -- it doesn't always work 100% since we're at the mercy of how the database works but it's worth a shot to see what you can find!
The website for Decipher TextMessage is http://deciphertools.com
You're also welcome to visit our website, try the software free, and send us any questions that you have.
Disclaimer: Since I work on Decipher TextMessage, I stand to benefit from the links to our website that I've made above.

It needs to be Mac compatible.
Even if it's a FREE trial software which will let me recover 1 file 1 by 1 that's fine too as I only need to recover about 4 5 files.

I did restore and now I have about 5 videos missing, rest is fine.
There are 2 ways for you to recover deleted videos from iPhone:

Step 1: Select the device backup to scan
Step 2: Recover deleted iPhone videos
After the scan, the whole backup content are extracted and also displayed. You can check the video which is in .mpeg format in general, and click "Recover" on the top menu to store it on your computer.
Solution 2.Directly scan and recover deleted videos from iPhone 4/3GS
Step 1:Connect your iPhone to the computer
Launch the recovery software on your computer, and connect your iPhone to the computer with a digital cable.
Step 2:Enter the DFU mode and scan iPhone
Enter the DFU mode with your iPhone:
    1. Hold your iPhone and click "Start" button.
    2. Pressing "Power" and "Home" buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds.
    3. After 10 seconds, release "Power" button, but keep holding "Home" for another 10 seconds.
When you're told that you've entered the DFU mode, release the "Home" button
Step 3: Preview and recover deleted videos from iPhone
When the scan over, all your data on your iPhone or lost from iPhone are found and listed in organized categories.

To add the same content from the iPhone 4 backup, you can only backup and restore using the original Apple ID (iCloud) and password account.
Content cannot be transferred from one Apple ID to another and accounts cannot be merged as noted here.
