Recovering previous version of file

I accidentally over-wrote an InDesign CS7 PC file with an older version. Is there a way to recover the over-written file?

That is not correct. If you're on Windows and have system restore turned on for the drive the file is on, you may be able to get a previous version back.
Find the current version of your file in Windows Explorer, right click on it, choose properties, then at the top, select the tab "previous versions". If you've had restore points (usually you do) there should be one ore more old versions that you can choose to restore. I stumbled across this by accident and it has saved me numerous times.

You are welcome. I'm glad you got it back up.
    (1) You say you did the symbolic link. I will assume this is set correctly; it's very important that it is.
    (2) I don't know what you mean by "Been feeding the [email protected] for several weeks now, 700 emails each day at least." After the initial training period, SpamAssassin doesn't learn from mail it has already processed correctly. At this point, you only need to teach SpamAssassin when it is wrong. [email protected] should only be getting spam that is being passed as clean. Likewise, [email protected] should only be getting legitimate mail that is being flagged as junk. You are redirecting mail to both [email protected] and [email protected] ... right? SpamAssassin needs both.
    (3) Next, as I said before, you need to implement those "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server." Once you have that done and issue "postfix reload" you can look at your SMTP log in Server Admin and watch as Postfix blocks one piece of junk mail after another. It's kind of cool.

Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/other-rules.htm and download the following rules:
    backhair.cf
    bogus-virus-warnings.cf
    chickenpox.cf
    weeds.cf
    Copy these rules to /etc/mail/spamassassin/
Then stop and restart mail services.
There are other things you can do, and you'll find differing opinions about such things. In general, I think implementing the "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server" and adding the SARE rules will help a lot. Good luck!

  • When I open a previous version inDesign file (CS5.5) I see a blank page.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Restore previous version of file from BT Cloud

A file on the cloud has been corrupted and I want to restore a previous version.  According to BT:
"BT Cloud on your PC and Mac allows you to recover up to 5 previous saved versions of any backed up files. So if a file has been mis-saved or become corrupted, you can use BT Cloud to find a previous version. "
How do I get back to the earlier versions?

    List all files.
If you double click on your specific file, then a new console appears, giving the option to open the file, using a command icon "open" on the lower right.
    Don't open it yet.
On the bottom right (near the "open" command) there's an info icon.
Click on that and you'll see a list which includes previous versions.
You have the choice of opening a previous version.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Restore Previous Versions - Restored File Filled with Nulls

    ISSUE:
The Restore Previous versions feature on my file server stopped working some time in the recent past.  If I look at the Previous Version for a file or folder the items are listed and they show a valid file size.  However, when I restore a previous
version of a file it is completely filled with nulls.  I have tried local restores on the server and remote restores.  The results are the same; I get a file that is the correct size but completely filled with nulls.  The Server is Windows 2008
R2 64.  I have searched for any reports of similar issues to no avail.   I'm looking for any ideas on how to resolve the issue preferably while maintaning archived files.

    Hello,
Can you help me with this too?
    My Shadow copy stop working!
When my clients right click on Folders, they saw only date in the past.. and the new date not comming!
When i went to file server

  • How do I open a previous version Numbers file in the current version of Numbers?

I get a window that says the file is too old to open in my current version. I no longer have previous versions installed.
It seems very strange that current versions will not open legacy files.
    Why is this?
    How do I fix it?

    Hi Alvalyn,
iOS 7.1? what version of Numbers? I am going to assume you are trying to open an '08 Doc in Numbers 3. You need '09 to do that. If you can't find it in purchase history you can probably still purchase it. What I did was download a trial version and it served me to bring my files up to date.

  • IMac crashed, how to save previous version iPhoto files?

hi, my late 2012 iMac crashed last week & I just got it back from the repair shop yesterday.
The technician wiped everything & reinstalled all except iPhoto (I believe my original version was 9.4.2).
My OS is now upgraded to 10.9.4
I'm very concerned about losing all my photo files,
and they don't seem to be available/show up on iCloud. I can view some through my iPhone though.
I noticed that I could download the latest iPhoto version, 9.5.1 which I did, but it seems that it does not support previous
versions and will not cooperate with the photo files that are hopefully still on my iPhone. So right now there is no
iPhoto app on my iMac... is it possible to download the previous iPhoto version (to try and import any saved iPhoto files
    from a backup drive?)
I'm sorry that I'm a newbie/basic questions here... just concerned about my existing photo files/losing photos if I upgrade
to 9.5.1.   Or just deal with photo loss & update iPhoto now?  (ps) when I sign into iCloud, there is no iPhoto app icon showing/
no photos backed up there (just the ones that are appearing on my iPhone in the iPhoto app libraries)
any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.
    Maria

Are you saying you don't have any form or backup? If your internal HD crashed and was replaced and you did not have any backup then your photos are probably gone. If you were using a Time Machine backup (see info below) then restoring your photos and other valuable info is easy. If not, then you might have to consider this an valuable lesson.
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
Without being sure what the tech did  you can attempt to restrore you iPHoto library. You can learn how by clicking
iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
    Good luck!

  • Restore previous version excel file

FYI, Office for Mac does not support Versions,  backup is the only likely route to recovery here.

  • Deleting previous versions of file in RSC

Is there a way to delete earlier versions of a file or group
of files within a RSO3 database? I've looked through the
documentation and have had no luck.
Example: I want to delete all versions of topics prior to
    release 1.0.

Hmm. I'd thought that you could delete old versions of
topics, but I don't see a way to do it, either. Sorry. Generally,
there's not a need to do that, though.

The Dropbox app is free, although there are in-app purchases that get you extra storage.  I believe all you need to do is re-install the Dropbox app, and then sign into your Dropbox account.

  • Corrupted Spreadsheet / Restore Previous Version in iCloud?

    Hello.
Last night, I went to edit a Numbers spreadsheet on my iPad. This same spreadsheet is also kept open on my OS X desktop, but hadn't been updated in hours. When I went to open it, I got a conflict notification. I chose the most recent one and got a message that it couldn't be opened. This morning, I went to open that spreadsheet on my desktop. It was minimized on my dock, so I clicked the icon, but as it zoomed out, an error message popped up saying that it couldn't be opened. From within Numbers for OS X, I tried to open it a few times with the same result. I made a sopy of the spreadsheet and moved it to my desktop from iCloud. From the terminal, I looked into the directory that represents my spreadsheet and found it empty.
I know Numbers used to save previous versions of files, but I cannot open any version to trigger the recovery. Even if I could, I'm not sure this same functionality exists when saving it to iCoud. I've never had a lost / corrupted spreadsheet in Numbers, so I really don't know what to do to recover. Suggestions?
(BTW, I'm using the most recent version of Numbers both on my MBP and on iOS.)

    Thanks for the reply, SG.
The "cannot be opened" message says essentially just that:
    "FILENAME.numbers" can't be opened.
There's only an OK button to press.
No, I cannot view it in Numbers for iCloud. I forgot to mention that I tried that too.
Yes, I use Time Machine and love it.

  • Can't see previous versions with VSS enabled.

    Hi,
I have a W2008R2 with VSS configured and running, I can see shadow copies till today saved in a volume D:, but when I go to see previous versions of a file or directory inside this volume, these previous versions don't appear since 17/11/2014. This date
I changed the max value for number os shadow copies via registry editor, but I didn't check previous versions in files and directories later.
I've checked writers with vssadmin command, and all writers are ok. No errors in system logs neither. I've tried restarting VSS service with no result.
Is there any place I can check for solve this?
    Regards,
    Quique

    Hi Umesh:
    - Can you run "vssadmin list shadows" and see if it lists shadow copies?
Yes it does. Also checked if I can access to a the shadow copy, doing a mklink of the shadow copy
volume, and I can access to shadow copies not listed in previous versions.
    - Reboot the server if possible and see if it helps.
    Done
    - Also check the below link. It is for Windows vista but I believe it still works for Windows 2008
    R2 as well.
I found this article googling the problem, but I hace all checkboxes ok.
    - What is the number you set and what do you see in previous version tab?
Default number os shadow copies is 64, I changed to 512 according to this article: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb891959(v=vs.85).aspx#maxshadowcopies
    I'm still with the problem...

  • Adobe Reader XI did not save the form data (unlike previous versions). Any way to recover file?

Adobe Reader XI did not save the form data (unlike previous versions). Any way to recover filled form with data from temp locations?
I was not aware that ctrl+s no longer works in reader and closed the PDF after savign it(with ctrl+s). However ,the data is lost and there seems to be no way to recover it.
I cannot find any temp files created by Reader on my system.
Also to my surprize(and shock), the reader did not even show a warning before closing the PDF. Does anybody know if/where can I recover the file from?
Guys, Please reply ASAP if you have got any sort of solution!

    Hi Pat,
Are you using Adobe Reader XI? And not Acrobat. It does not ask me to save the form if there are unsaved changes.
I have used previous versions of reader for saving this form data and it did allow me to save it with ctrl+s. And those versions did prompt me to save the changes before closing.
I guess I should not have updated the reader.
