Recovering songs after laptop crash

My laptop harddrive crashed and had to be replaced. I have all my songs on my ipod "original" but they won't synch w/ itunes. I have autorized the computer with itunes store but it just does not synch back into Itunes library.. I hate to have to import all my personal cd's again. HELP!
Thanks

The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are also a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.

My computer crashed and I had to do a complete system restore. I just re-downloaded itunes, how do I get my purchased songs back?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
If for some reason you have failed to do the basics and maintain a backup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  File>Transfer Purcahses
If you are in the U.S. you can use the newly released beta version of the cloud.

    hi,
    Thank you Raju.
I regret to inform u that yr reply came in a bit late & I had already solved my problem, I am posting my experience for the benifit of others.
I tried out a number of things today.
    One thing clicked
I Installed the oracle server on another machine with the same name.Keep in mind that the drive name should be the same as the previous installation & so must be the DB name & the path as that of the previous installation.
After doing so shut down the oracle instance.
Replace all the control, log and dbf files.
Try to restart the oracle Instance if there is a problem, it might give u a password mis-match error. If u using another login to boot up .
To corect this run the orapwd.exe with the new password & the replace the PWD<databasename>.ora file
try to restart the databse after taking a shutdown .
    This procedure works well.

  • Retain Songs After Computer Crash

The windows PC that I sync my iPod to has crashed, along with the 20GB of song data I have ripped to it. I have the 40GB clickwheel iPod. The NTFS file system will not copy files, so I can't move the songs to an external drive.
Is there a way for me to plug my iPod into another computer to back up the songs or reinstall the OS and regain the files? I can plug the iPod back into the same PC after the OS has been reinstalled, but I'm afraid I will lose my songs. Somehow I would need to specify in the iPod to overwrite the PC, not the other way around, or the PC will overwrite my songs with a blank.

I got a new computer and when I downloaded iTunes (without having connected my iPod to the computer), it appears that all my music was downloaded with the iTunes software! Could this be possible? And if not, where did my music come from? Space?

  • Recovering files after computer crash

My HP computer recently crashed and eventually I had to reinstall XP and consequently lost all of my files. Is there any way for me to recover my iTunes library (I had 100's of files...)? I did not backup my music as I had no external drive or anything similar to put them on. Also, I only have a shuffle so that would only let me recover ~200 songs from there. Is there any hope for me? Any programs or iTunes options that anyone is aware of? I'm pretty desperate as that was 100's of dollars.... thanks in advance for any help.

I wrote some programs that will probably help:
This one removes the tracks that iTunes cannot find:

This one removes the duplicates (if they are exactly the same file, or one that is like "foofile.mp3", and "foofile 1.mp3")

  • After laptop crash and new installation, how can i transfer my ipad content towards itunes ?

    HI,
I had to change my hard disk on my laptop, and then resintall windows from scratch. After reinstalling iTunes, I want to transfer the content of my iPad2, iPhone and 2 iPods on iTunes.
However, when I want to synchronisze, iTunes brings an alert indicating that the content of the deveices will be replaced by the computer library (which of course is empty after the reinstallation).
Any help or advice please ?

Thank you. That would have worked too, but before getting the answer I found another solution: what I finnaly did was use Detunes to copy my books from the iPad. It was quite fast too. Any of those could have worked quite nicely.

  • I have to search for each song after computer crash.  I have external drive

I was working on a project with realplayer when it caused my computer to crash. The only way to shut off my computer was to hit my power switch on the surge protector and reboot that way. Anyway, I have about 3000 songs on my external drive. Every time I want to play a song, a window pops up saying that it could not locate the original file, would you like to locate now. So now i have to search for the file everytime. How do I make it so Itunes automatically goes to my hard drive like it was before? I just downloaded Itunes 8.2, but couldnt figure it out. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Do you recall what drive letter the exHD was using before the crash?
Is it still the same, or did Windows assign it a different letter?
The itunes database stores the entire path name to songs, so if it changed from F:/Music/blablabla to G:/Music/blablabla, that would cause it.
If you dont care about playlists, ratings, and play counts, it is a lot easier to just clear out your library and add everything back in.

  • Help recovering music after harddrive crash

I've purchased and downloaded 15 albums from the Itunes Store. Unfortunately, my laptop had a defect and decided to crash on me, so now I've got a new harddrive, with none of my purchased music on it.
How can I redownload those 15 albums that I've purchased from Itunes?

I think that analogy is flawed, to be honest.
When I buy a CD from the store, it is tangible. I remove the plastic covering, I open the case, and take the CD out. That's not the case here, where the album is purchased online, electronically, and stored on my harddrive (until I make a backup, that is, which I obviously didn't do). So it's not like some factory is producing a replacement compact disc and jewel case, and mailing it to me if I lose my first one. It's just bits of code in Apple's central database. I wouldn't think royalties would have to be paid out, if it could be proven that the same person who made the original purchase was just downloading the music again. That's why I 'guess I was always under the impression..'. The wrong impression, obviously. There's my 2 cents.
So anyways, I'm pretty peachy keen that I got away with it this time, and have learned from my mistake (make backups!!). Thanks again.

  • Restoring songs after system crash.  Help?

I recently had to re-image my computer which caused me to lose all of my files. When I reconnected my iPod, after replacing the iTunes software, I got a message saying that I couldn't use this iPod unless I restored the disk. This means that I would also lose all of the songs on my iPod. Is there any way of getting around this?

    Dell Inspiron 9300   Windows XP

First of all try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

  • Recovering drivers after disk crash

My hard drive crashed. Fortunately I had a current Time Machine backup which restored all my files. I thought. I had no exclusions in the Time Machine options, so I am sure I did not exclude my drivers, but somehow, they did not restore. I am speaking specifically of my printer and camera drivers, but there may be others I have not discovered. And for some reason, I am unable to reinstall them from the original manufacturer's web site. The Canon camera drivers apparently install, but no luck in iPhoto, it doesn't see the camera. The Brother 5250 drivers are a different matter. For some reason I need to know IP addresses, DNS server names and other stuff to get the driver I downloaded to work. Don't know how and don't know why. It worked before using Snow Leopard.
My question is this, assuming I get my drivers reinstalled somehow (although all suggestions would be welcome), how can I ensure that they get backed up and restored if the crash ever happens again?

    RPHarris wrote:
The Apple fix-it folks replaced the disk and installed Snow Leopard. From that point on, I did a full system restore, including using the Snow Leopard disk. I have been using the computer for a few weeks now, so I can't imagine redoing a full system restore makes sense any more.
Oh, no, if it didn't restore that way the first time, it won't now.
Where are the drivers for printers kept anyway? I am not familiar with the Mac system libraries. Maybe I can just find the driver on a really old back up somewhere, or on my other Mac, which has the same drivers, and just copy them over?
Most of the printer stuff seems to be in the maker's folder inside the top-level /Library/Printers folder.
It's very odd that they didn't restore. I don't recall ever seeing that reported here.
You might also want to browse, search, or re-post in the +Printing, Faxing, and Scanning+ forum. There's likely someone there with better info.

  • Recovering lightroom after laptop death

Hi everyone. Got a problem... my lap top hard drive went down. All my photos and catalogues (lightroom 4) are backed up so that's ok.  Lightroom came bundled with my laptop - it came as a card which enabled me to download lightroom online. The store set it up. The problem is I dont have that card anymore and dont seem to have the licence number anywhere.
I have logged onto adobe online in the hope that it is there under products but it isn't. When I get the new hard disk fitted, how will I be able to get lightroom again? Is there anyway adobe can tell me my licence number?
I would really appreciate any advice.

There's some third party applications available. The following article is pretty old (2008) so it would be best to reality-check the capabilities and availability of the various listed items prior to opting for a particular product:
