Recovering to Vista, then Win 7

Hi,
My laptop died and I need to recover. In theory, a simple process but...
The original out of box state was based on Vista but I was entitled to a free Win7 upgrade, which I took advantage of.
I used my recovery disks to wipe-out the hard drive and reinstall the OS. However, it installed Vista (the original "out of box" state) so now I need to upgrade to Win7. Any idea how I can do this without purchasing a Win7 license? I have been scouring the Toshiba web site but cannot find any information.
Thanks!

When you received the free Windows 7 upgrade, you should have received a Windows 7 Product Key along with it. Or, if it was a Toshiba Windows 7 upgrade disk, it will have Toshiba's OEM product key imbedded in it. So, you will not need another license or product key.

  • Upgrade my xp dedicated BC drive thru vista to win 7 ?

I know this isn't a "perfect" solution to upgrading my current BootCamp xp but can I upgrade my xp install to vista then upgrade to win7 in order to preserve my programs and their settings?
In other words, can I upgrade my xp installation to vista, then upgrade the vista installed to win 7 w/out loosing my programs, settings, etc?
Reason: I only want to know as much as I need to about windows. I'm using win xp specifically so I can run AutoCad. I can't spend the time, nor do I want to, reinstalling AutoCad along with all the tweaks and settings I've made to my AutoCad/xp install over the years. The only way I would be willing to get to win7 would be by an upgrade which would preserve my setting and programs. XP works fine right now, but I would like to stay at least somewhat current with my windows os.
Any thoughts other than "do a clean install"? That's not really an option for me.

The title for me would be better to fine-tune to what you want and purpose to do: *Upgrade xp to win 7*
buy a program to help with the upgrade process. Data is easy.
I assume you want Windows 7 64-bit. You cannot go from 32 to 64-bit. You need drivers.
Doesn't sound like worth your time and pitfalls.
the MacPro1,1 can easily handle Windows 7 on its own hard drive. it won't boot from Windows 7 64-bit DVD w/o tweaks. it can install though from inside another Windows OS on a different drive or partition.
Without 64-bit you are crushed with 1.9GB RAM limitation on your Mac. Without Windows Pro you can't use dual processor (your 2 x 2.66).
Going "upgrade" route is bad enough with XP and no reason to have Vista also.
On a PC, more ways and options.

  • Installing Vista then upgrading to Windows 7

I just installed Lion and it seems to be doing fine.  I wanted to install windows 7 with bootcamp, but I bought an upgrade version because I have my Vista disc.  Then I wanted to upgrade since it saved me $70.  Anyway, at this point bootcamp assistant is only asking me if I want to install windows 7.  How do I go about installing Vista, then windows 7?

If you already owned Vista you CAN use the UPgrade version of Windows 7.
It'd of been a lot cheaper if you were to search a bit first?
Legally any ways, as long as it's the same "Version" as Vista. You can't upgrade from Vista Home (or whatever) to W7 Pro. In Lion you just install the W7 upgrade and authenticate afterwards, it won't ask for another OS like XP or Vista. Microsoft had to have some way for XP users to upgrade, tho via a clean install only. With a clean install of W7 you just install it once, don't update or authenticate yet, then just re-install over the new install then you can authenticate and update.
Apple doesn't authenticate for Microsoft so it doesn't know if you have a legal prior copy or a pirate copy. It normally wouldn't care what you had except Apple dropped support for XP and Vista with Lion and BC 4.0 and that's why BCAssistant will only look for a W7 OS.
    Oh well, have fun.......

    Thanks Andy,
I wish I could have told my sister about this as she could not open my homepage back before my new iWeb site. She now can open my site without the yet in case denial window does appear = I thank you.
I think my iWeb site works as Noone has said otherwise from any platform etc...

I do agree that should not have to be a consideration for any users so i agree that it would be great if Apple could allow simplicity to run seemlessly.
I have had this problem since Homepage, and here is
what has worked for me. I send out the link, and
then for PC users I send the link with "<" after the address (without quotation
    marks. e.g., <http://site.com>).
I also put a note that if that doesn't work, to just
copy and paste the link into a browser. With that I
have only had 1 person say they still can't open.
Everyone else gets it to work.
It's a lot to do and seems like a hassle, but you get
    used to it.
    Hope this helps!

PS - APPLE! When are you going to fix this??! It
seems like such a small thing yet you guys have been
    stumped for YEARS on this!

  • Elements 5 will not start from the windows old file after upgrading from vista to win 7

Elements 5 will not start from windows.old after upgrading from vista to win 7

Ideally there should not be any impact of OS change, but officially PSE5 is not supported on Win7.
What exactly happens ? Can you see the processes running in Task-manager?

  • Transferring Lightroom 4.4 from Vista to Win 8.1 on New Computer

I was running LR 4.4 on a Vista OS.  I purchased a Win 8.1 computer.  Per an online tutorial, I transferred my photo folder to the new computer then installed LR 4.4, then transferred over the .lrcat folder.  The catalog cannot find the photos.  Is there something I am missing or a different way to accomplish this?  I intend to upgrade to LR5.7 but thought that it would be simple to work with the same version between computers and operating systems.  Any step-by-steps or advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.

It's my understanding the upgrade does not modify any other partitions while upgrading Windows itself. Seems likely something else is wrong.
If you did not create recovery media before and cannot do so now, then obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.
All the information in the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive, which begins on p. 53 of the User's Guide, should still be applicable.

  • I updated my T61 from VISTA to win 7 64 bit now thinpad recovery current ver wont install

i did a clean install of WIN 7 64 on my thinkpad  T61 7664-17u. I put thinkvantage toolbox, other thing son, but it wont take the curent 64 bit version restore and recovery
i get error message as seen below:
rescue and recovery does not support installing from the operating system which upgrade from a legacy preload system
version i am trying to install is z936_setup_rnr450_025c. Any idea on what version i can try to install?

I don't use rescue and recovery personally, but I think I can at least explain your error message.
Your recovery partiton contains a different OS then you have installed, so rescure and recover cannot use it to fix any problems or do  a system restore. The only way you coud is if you did a system restore from original setup discs for the OS your using, which probably don't exist.
There may be other options within this program that can help you. I recal reading that it can image your drive and do a restore that way, but as I mentioned, I use other methods of restore so I don't have a solution for you..
There are 3rd party tools that can create restore images of your windows partiton, many use this method. My personal preferrence is to have a partition where I instal a second windows version. Doing a system restore is destructive of data and takes time, where a second OS can be accessed in a couple minutes. I also keep my windows partition small so it can be imaged and saved in a separate partition and I don't store any of my data in it, that way if I ever have to restore by reinstalling windows or re-imaging the partition, none of my data is lost, only what is in the C: drive is effected. I personally feel this is far superior to a hidden partition who's only purpose is to install windows. This data can be stored on optical discs and the harddrive space can be put to better use.

  • Re: Downgrading Equium A210-1AS from Vista to WIN XP

I have a fully functioning desktop and a barely working Equium A210-1AS I have Avanquest Fix-It 10 working well on the desktop. I installed Fix-It 10 on the Equium and after a day or so the computer crashed. It would boot and after endless restore operations and uninstalling a not-needed program and Fix-It 10 the computer is sort of working with a peculiar message. I was too mean to pay an extra 30 for a recovery disk for the Equius which has Vista Home OS. Now it so happens that I have a genuine OEM CD of WIN XP in my possesion. I bought it and used it on a desktop that I eventually took to the Council rubbish dump when it stopped working.
Can I create a CD with all the XP drivers downloaded from the Internet then just boot up with the WIN XP disk then insert the drivers CD?
I believe I could activate WIN XP by telephone and explanation. Would this work and what would the difficulties be? I do not need to save any data.
BTW I like XP and dont like Vista!
    Thanks for any help,

I have another problem. When I use the other link supplied by Jeka-IL to the Toshiba website concerning an AHCI driver, and I went to Device Manager to find out which chipset I had the result was nothing like the example given by Toshiba. What I saw was as follows:
    IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
    IDE Channel
    IDE Channel
    IDE Channel
    Ricoh Memory Stick Controller
    Ricoh SD/MMC Host Controller
    Ricoh xD Picture Card Controller
Standard Dual Channel PC IDE Controller
Standard Dual Channel PC IDE Controller
    IEEE 1394 Bus host contollers
    Etc
    etc
The processor is an AMD Turion 64 x 2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz
This I am sure is a processor that could operate 64bit but is currently operating Vista 32bit

  • Getting Premiere Elements 11 to install on my upgraded OS (Vista to Win 7)

I recently upgraded my PC to run Win 7 (64 bit).  I did a clean install of the OS so I need to reload my software.  I purchased PhotoShop Elements 11 with Premiere last year.  Both ran well on my Vista 64 bit OS.  PhotoShop installed with out a problem but the installer gives me this excuse for not installing Premiere. "This installer does not support installation on a 64-Bit Windows operating system. If you are installing by browsing through the disk content, then please run the "Setup.exe" from the folder "Adobe Premiere Elements 11\PRE 64".  If you are not installing from the disks please download the 64-Bit version of Premiere Elements 11."  Odd message since it had no problem installing and running on Vista 64bit.
I don't have a disk so can anyone tell me where I can find the 64-Bit version of Premiere Elements 11 to download?

You can download the 64-bit trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.

  • C6150 won't print after upgrade from Vista to Win 7

    Hello.
I have a C6150 AIO that worked fine under Vista.  Since I've upgraded to Win 7, I cannot get a printout from any application or the Windows test print.  The HP Solution Center test print works fine.
    -  Printer is hooked up wirelessly
    -  I've installed the latest driver from HP that is supposed to be Win 7 ready
    -  I've also installed the patch they recommend after upgrading from Vista
There is no error.  Print job shows up briefly in the print manager window, then disappears as though it printed.  I'm at a loss, any help would be appreciated.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I hope I have now sorted this problem.....
After numerous atems to install HP Windows 7 drivers & apps and failing I decided to restore the PCs to the day before I first installed the Drivers etc.
Then I unistall HP software and reinstalled the new drivers etc. This I had to do a couple of times on the Laptop (restore 3 days back).
After installing the HP software you can print a test page, print OK. Then goto printer properties and ty to print a test page from there, if this is unsuccessful  restore system and start again.  Most it took me was three attemps.
Now allI have to do is hope that the windows updates dont mess it all up again!
Hope this helps you......... Good luck

  • Can I change the software in the recovery partition from Vista to Win 7?

After doing a clean install of Windows 7 in a used Tecra A9 I just bought, I would like to  replace the factory installed Vista Business software within the recovery partition with Win 7 code so as to be able to boot  Win 7 in that partition in an emergency.  How can I do that, and are there any serious downsides to getting rid of the "factory installed stuff"?  Thanks in advance.

In the Creative Cloud Application you can change in Preferences the App language. Then you can download and install additional the other language.
With Photoshop you can now go to Preferences > User Interface and switch between all installed and available languages.

  • How to recover Windows Vista on Satellite A210?

My friend bought Thoshiba Satellite A210. The machine is running slow, so he wants to reinstall Vista.
Can we recover it from hard drive?
He does not have any CD coming with the laptop.
    Thanks.

The A210 was definitely delivered with the Toshiba Recovery DVD which would help you to get the notebook back to the factory settings.
As far as I know the A210 was not equipped with the HDD Recovery option and therefore the Recovery DVD should be in the package.
If you dont have the Recovery DVD anymore, then you could order it here:

  • Drivers error recovering Windows Vista on Satellite A200

    Hello,
I replaced the HD of my Toshiba Satellite A200. I replicate the original disk partitioning in the new disk and installed the original SO (Windows Vista) from the recovery disk.
Everything went well. However, when I started Windows for first time, it was unable to end the autoconfiguration phase. An error message appeared on the screen: it had been unable to find all the drivers that it needs.
After accepting the error message, windows rebooted the system without giving me any chance.
Can anyone tell me what went wrong with the Windows recovery process?
How can I add the drivers needed or skip the autoconfiguration process to do it later?

    > {quote:title=JoeLouis wrote:}{quote}

    > No, if you want to add the driver while windows installation and setup process, you have to use an Microsoft Windows disk Toshiba recovery disk contains an image which is NOT the same like a common installation disk!
That's completely right. However, after copying the image to the HDD, the system reboots and loads Vista for first time. Then, the system starts a non-interactive autoconfiguration process (it shows a label similar to "Please, wait...").
Eventually, it shows an error message and shuts down.
This leads me to think that the image copy process went well (the system loads without trouble) but then Windows loads a wrong driver to manage the HDD and crashes.
I would like to know if I can change any option in a configuration file (after copying the image in the HDD and before loading the OS for first time) to make this process interactive or to load a different set of drivers to manage the HDD. Does anyone have a clue?

  • Recovering license from wiped Win 8.1 upgrade

    Hi -
I only have two computers. One is a laptop with Win8.0 and the other one is my problem child. It did have Win-7/64-Pro on it. I got the Upgrade to Win8.1/64-Pro. I didn't realize that when the installer said it would save my files, it was only saving data files and no program information what-so-ever. The Adobe license agent doesn't know that my Win-7 install is history and so will only let me run one install. I can't run the cleaner (I don't think) because that install (Win-7) is gone. I really do only have two computers, I'm hoping to find a way to be able to work on tghem both.

If this is a creative-cloud install, then all you need to do is sign in to CC and take the choice to deactivate the other two installs.  Then go back to your other live computer and sign into CC there, too, and both installs will be activated as they should be.  At least that is how it worked a couple months ago when I needed to do it.
If you are not on CC, yet, then you’ll want to chat with someone at Adobe Support via the chat button on the bottom of most help pages.  They can deactivate your previous install on the current computer, somehow.

  • Upgrade questions for early 08 iMac from SL to Lion and Vista to Win 7

I've been doing a lot of reading on this forum and elsewhere and have a few questions on the best way to do this so it goes smoothly with the least amount of issues.  My configuration is in my sig below.
Unless someone talks me out of it this I want to go from Snow Leopard and Windows Vista Home Premium to Lion and Win 7 Home Premium.  I would like to go to Win 7 64 bit but Apple doesn't list my machine as supported for 64 bit so I may have to go 32 bit.  I've read elsewhere that others have gone to 64 bit with little to no problems.  The individual components in my iMac
Here is what I think is the logical order:
    1. Install Lion
    2. Previous 2.2 Boot Camp partition should remain intact.
    3.  Lion Boot Camp Assistant should now be version 4.0
    4.  Run Boot Camp and download software to burn to CD.
    5.  Launch Windows and install new drivers using burned CD.
    6.  Install Win 7
Does this seem correct?  Any suggestions?

Do a clean install of Windows. Hence, remove the Boot Camp partition you have now so Lion can manage the drive.
