Recovering unbacked up iPhone photos

I was trying to back up my photos from my iPhone 4 to my Macbook Pro's iPhoto and when I tried it twice it gave me an error message saying "Error downloading image.iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image."
So then I went to iTunes to do my voice memos instead and I clicked on something like restoring the iPhone and now all my photos are gone! I tried downloading free versions of iphone data recovery programs  to see if my photos would show up but nothing is coming up! I never backed them up anywhere so is there no way to get them back?

No, unfortunately whatever has been deleted from your iPhone's memory is gone. Do you by any chance remember backing up your photos to iPhoto in the past? Furthermore, do you see any of your old pictures in your iPhoto?
As for backing up in the future, it is extremely important that you back up your phone at least once a week if not everyday.
To back up the content on your iOS device to iTunes on your computer:
Make sure your computer has the latest version of iTunes.
Connect your iOS device to your computer.
Choose File > Devices > Back up.
If you're using iTunes 10.7 or earlier, right-click the device and choose Backup Now.
You can also back up by syncing your iOS device with your computer. When you use iTunes to sync, backing up is the first step.

  • HT201269 Is it possible to recover lost iPhone photos without any backup?

I accidentally deleted a few iPhone photos and I did not have the chance to back them up onto my computer. Nor did I use iCloud. Is there any possible way of recovering my lost photos? Thanks.

I've had good results with iPhone Data Recovery - able to recover about 94% of files from undamaged disks with trashed files.
It's $49 but much less than you'd pay for a data recovery service...
But maybe this will be a good lesson to you to ALWAYS maintain one or more backup schemes.
    Good luck,

  • Recovering iPhone photos after PC Sync

I just installed iTunes and tried syncing my iPhone photos to with PC.
Instead of copying photos to the PC, it did the reverse.
Any quick way to get these photos back via iCloud or other option.
(it looks like the iCloud photos folder was updated as well).

Syncing photos that were in the Camera Roll? Camera Roll photos don't sync, and a sync with iTunes would not remove them. A sync, if you have it checked in Photos in iTunes, should sync the photos on your computer to iTunes. If you had photos on the phone that were synced from another computer, those could have been deleted with a photo sync.
If you had the settings in your photo import utility on the PC set to automatically import photos and then delete from the source, it could have moved them from the iPhone. Windows sees the iPhone with photos on it like a digital camera and will import depending on your settings. Check your Pictures library and see if there is a folder dated today containing those pictures. But, iTunes does not do anything with pictures in the Camera Roll except back them up with the iPhone backup.

  • How to recover notes on iphone 3gs

I was holding my iPhone 3GS version 4.2.1 in one hand, hence I was trying to use my thumb to tap the screen to navigate to the Note page of interest. In any case the result was a page of notes disappeared. This was most annoying. If it was an email I could go to Trash and find it. I suppose that would be too easy.
So my question is how do I recover a notes on an iphone 3gs?

  • Transfer iphone photo library folders to computer

Instead of syncing all of my photos on my iPhone at once over to my Macbook Pro in order to transfer my photos over to iPhoto, I would like some sort of semblance in doing so. I have all my photos on my iPhone organized in different folders in my iPhone photo library. How do I transfer my folders (pictures in them) over to my computer so that I don't have to reorganize each and every photo once they've been synced to my computer?

    1. The photo library on your phone is not the same as your iPhoto Library. For a start, thoe images have been compressed to a very small size to save space on the device and you're missing versions, metadata and so on.
    2. You would be better restoring from a back up.
    3. You can get these versions off your phone with an app like http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/36028/iphone-photo-transfer . There are others. Search on MacUpdate
    4. Once you've recovered them to the computer you'll need to create a new Library to import them.

  • HT1766 iPhone photos lost during syncing; are they still available

Today I decided to sync my iPhone 5 and download the new version of the operation system because of warnings  in the news about security breaches with the older versions. When I plugged the device in and selected it, I was not presented with the option of syncing but was guided to a screen with two choices:  1) register a new device or 2) restore the device to the settings of the last backup (2/27/13).  I chose restore since the device was already recognized by iTunes when I plugged it in.  There was no dialogue warning me that restoring means that you will be deleting any new data stored on the phone since the last backup. This is a crucial piece of information worthy of a red flag and warning similar to those you get if you attempt to delete a photo or contact.  I proceeded through the restore process; eventually, there appeared an error message saying that the restore had failed. I unplugged the iPhone then plugged it in again.  This time, I was guided to the screen for syncing and proceeded to sync apps, calendar, photos (there is no music on the device).  When I finished, I discovered that many, many of my most precious photos and the albums I had created  to arrange themon the iPhone were missing, although many of them remain.  Most of the photos on the iPhone at this time are those that were already stored on the computer in Picasa while many of the iPhone photos I was attempted to save by syncing have disappeared.  Is there any chance of recovering these photos, either on the computer or on the iPhone?  My Photo Stream option was on for the photos, but most of them were apparently  not captured and are missing from Photo Stream on the computer and on the iPhone.

I am not computer savy....I was trying to add some contacts and it would not let me. My grandaughter told me I had to sync phone.  I did something stupid I told it to restore to last back up.  I got all old contact information.  I messed with it until I got my current contacts back.  Everything is back to normal except my photos are gone.

My iPhone 5s is stolen and I want to restore iPhone photos from iCloud. I have use iCloud to backup the iPhone photos. Is there any way to restore my photos from iCloud to mac?

The backup of your iPod Touch would include your camera roll photos.  Restoring the backup to another iPod Touch or iPhone would recover them.  Photos will not be restored by restoring the backup to an iPad.
Note: Apple deletes iCloud backups after 180 days of inactivity so be sure to do this before then.

Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.
    Sync Contacts:
Your contacts are being synced with you iPhone over the air from iCloud. Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on you iPhone
    Sync Calendars:

  • IPHOTO SYNCS 2 YEARS WORTH OF iPHONE PHOTOS EVERYTIME

Every time I sync my iPhone photos in iPhoto is syncs pretty much EVERYTHING!!! I have 20 copies of every photo. When I first connect it on the import screen it says it's syncing from 9/9/2008 to the current date. How can I change that so I quit having so many duplicates??

Bad news I'm afraid. iCloud only keeps the last 30 days of photos. Your device will keep some old iCloud photos around - up to 1000 photos - but those ones aren't actually on iCloud any more. It's one of my pet hates about iCloud Photostream, and it has caused a lot of people to lose data. It's a very bad design decision on Apple's part.
There are file recovery programs that might be able to recover the deleted photos from your handset, but I can't remember the names of any right now. Stop using the phone completely until you can run a file recovery program to maximise the number of photos it can restore. Preferably, switch it off completely.

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

  • Add To iPhoto in Mail fails for iPhone photos sent in multiple emails

Someone takes six photos with an iPhone and emails them to you.
You get 6 emails. Each one has a photo.jpg image attached.
You click the SAVE pop-down menu in the Mail message and choose Save To iPhoto. The photo is imported into iPhoto. You delete that email and do the same thing with the second email with the second photo...
BUT, somewhere the Mail-iPhoto smartness turns dumb, as the rest of the photos will not show up in iPhoto. (This may have something to do with the fact that the iPhone sends each photo with the attachment name of photo.jpg and somehow Mail or iPhoto think that photo has already been added to iPhoto).
I was having this problem with photos emailed to me by iPhone users and tested it myself.
Sure enough, after the first photo.jpg attachment is imported all subsequent Add To iPhoto operations of iPhone sent images fail... even if the photos have been sent from separate iPhones from separate email addresses.
All the attachments are kept by Mail in uniquely numbered folders in the attachments folder of my receiving email account in Library/Mail but since each attachments is named photo.jpg that seems to throw off iPhoto OR Mail (because even the quick progress update of "Adding photo to iPhoto" does not show up on these attempts).
I checked if quitting and restarting Mail fixed allowed the second photo to be added to iPhoto but it did not. Quitting iPhoto after EACH import/Add To iPhoto operation allowed each photo to be added into iPhoto.
This may have to do with the iPhoto bugs handling large libraries (I have 19000 images in it) like the spinning wheel of Names window after imports, etc.
Just sharing if others have the same experience sending 3 iPhone photos by email to themselves and seeing if all can be added to iPhoto from Mail. Thanks.
    Imran

    Yes it is a bug
Report to apple. iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
You can work around BR saving to the desktop and importing or opening in quick view, expanding to full screen and saving to iPhoto

looking for an iphone photo editing app that mirrors images? Any suggestions? I'd like to mirror an image already in my photo library....

  • After changing contact photo on iPhone, photo no longer shows up in outlook

I had my contact photos all setup on my iphone, and syncing correctly with iTunes and showing up correctly in Outlook 2007. The photos are stored on the iPhone, and set either by selecting the photo and doing "Assign to Contact", or in Contacts, Edit, Edit (the picture) and "Choose Photo". They would show up as a thumbnail in the Outlook 2007 Business Card view, and also in the detail when you double-click a contact. This part of the process hasn't changed.
What has changed is iOS4. Now, when I go in and change a contact's photo on the iPhone, it no longer shows up correctly in Outlook 2007. It shows a blank space when showing the Business card view, but shows the photo correctly in the detail if I double-click a contact. Even if I change it back to the photo that it was, it still won't show correctly in Outlook 2007 Business Card view.
Contacts whose photos I haven't changed since iOS4 show correctly in both places in Outlook 2007.
Anyone else seeing this or have a fix?

    Hi!
I'm having the same troubles and after searching for a while i found
    the following solution:
    In short (from http://gyoo.com/blog/?p=48)
    First, some figures:
    iPhone camera resolution: 1600×1200 (72dpi)
    iPhone screen resolution: 320×480 (160dpi)
iPhone contact picture display size: 64×64 (160dpi)
iPhone contact picture display size on call: 320×270 (160dpi)
    Outlook import resolution: 72×96 (72dpi)
    - On your PC, resize the image contact to 320×320 (160dpi),
knowing that 25 pixels on the top and bottom will be semi-transparent when on call.
    - On your PC, create a folder iPhone Photos\Contacts and move your contact photos inside Sync the photos into your iPhone with iTunes through the Photos tab.
    - Select the iPhone Photos folder as source.
    - Manually associated the photo to your contact on the iPhone
    (Edit ->Add Photo->Choose Existing Photo)
    - Sync back the iPhone with iTunes.
The photos will be associated automatically into Outlook with the good resolution this time.
    Regards

  • Universal Dock's remote doesn't work with iPhone Photos

Has anyone tried Universal Dock's remote with iPhone Photos? I can't get it to work.
The remote does work with iPhone music and video though.

i just bought this dock as a car dock. I have it hooked up to power 12v and output to 1/8 into head unit. Now, I have to be in iTunes music to get it to work and it only allows volume, playing of files in a playlist and to next song. Are any of you guys having issues with VERY limited use of the remote and lack of really a benefit from using a remote because you have to touch it anyways to change through songs or video??? Are you guys wondering why you even bought it if the remote is not supported as a functional addition?
