Recovering unsaved document

I just spent 3 hours making changes to a document in Pages that I had already saved before the changes. My battery died and when I reopened the document none of the changes were saved.
Is there anyway to recover the doc. with the changes?
Thanks,

No. The changes are all in memory. If you don't save the changes they are lost. I don't think Pages has an autosave feature, but if it does you should enable it to prevent this from occurring again.
MS Word has both an autosave feature and document protection feature that creates a backup copy of the current document in the event of a crash or power loss. I don't believe Pages has either of these.

Is there anyway to recover unsaved documents. I was working on an essay and walked away from my computer for a little bit. My computer turned off and I didn't save my document. Is there anyway to recover it or do I just have to start it over??? Please help!

There is no built-in Autosave feature in iWork's components but such a tool is available for months.
    Go to my idisk:

    and download:

I was able to write the tool but I can't install it for you

  • Can you recover unsaved documents after the application shuts down

I just finished editing a previously saved 5 page rough draft and i was trying to add a header before i saved my changes and then the Pages application shut down. Now after 3 hours of editing, all of my changes are now deleted. Is there any way to recover an unsaved document? Is there like a temporary storage file or autosave file I can access? My paper is due tomorrow so any responses would be greatly appreciated.

You haven't said what version of Pages on what version of OSX but since OSX 10.7 they all require you to save the first time to create the named file that all subsequent versions will be saved to.
    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/29454/foreversave-lite
Will prompt you to save the first time and then save at set intervals.
Apple as usual has created a novel auto-saving and versioning system that falls at the first hurdle.
It should save a temporary file in Documents with a unique System tag, or the first line of the document, if you haven't saved within 5 minutes of opening it.
Then if you chose to not Save, move that copy to the Trash.
Finally to give you a 3rd chance to recover, let you reopen the unsaved document from the Recent menu, returning the temporary file from the Trash.
This would cover the usual human behavioral problems. People tend to get into their work and forget to do the mundane things like Save until too late. It is easy to hit Don't Save when that pops up either by misclicking, or out of some long standing habit. Only thinking about it after the event.

  • Does Pages recover unsaved documents if your computer crashes?

I had some things open in pages (A story, some notes from class) that I hadn't yet saved, and then my computer crashed totally at random. Is there any way to recover them? I know Word has unsaved document recovery....

If you never saved it, No.
Are you still on OSX 10.5.8?
ForeverSave Lite will automatically save for you. OSX 10.7 will also autosave, but still needs to have you save the first time so it knows where to save it.
Word must leave a heck of a lot of randomly named files lying around if you never save.

How do I recover an unsaved Photoshop document after closing the program?

Check your preferences and see if there is an auto save option listed. If so and it is enabled, then do a search for psd or psb file extensions.

  • How to recover unsaved document in Word 2011 for Mac?

I had a document that I saved under the name Travel Journals, and there's about 4 pages there. I added onto those four pages later but I guess I accidentally hit "do not save" or something. I can find the first 4 pages, but nothing else. Help please?

If you did not save it then there is nothing to recover.
If you want specifics then I suggest you post your question on the Micrsoft Mac forums, since it's their softawre you're asking about.

  • Recover unsaved document after Word crash

I was working on a document and was almost finished when amazingly enough, Microsoft Word crashed. I am trying to find an auto saved/recovery document but I don't konw where to look. Please help.

What version of Office are you using? If 2011, did you have AutoRecover on (in your preferences)? You designate the folder for the recovered files. If using a previous version of Word, check with the MS Office for Mac forums at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macword.

I believe that you can download a demo of Data Rescue 4, and the demo will give you an idea of what it can recover. If it looks promising, you then can buy the software.

  • Can I recover unsaved work after a restart of my computer

I was working with Final Draft 8 and before I could save my work the spinning pinwheel appeared. I restarted my computer hoping that my work would pop back up. I've done a shutdown when this happened before and was able to have my windows with my work reappear, albeit the wheel was still spinning, and my work was lost.
I want to know if there is a way that I can recover unsaved work after restarting my computer, or if there is a way to access my temporary file folder and search for my document there. This seems like a stupid question I know, but I'm so desperate and would just like to know if there is a way to access my unsaved work. Is it gone forever? Unsaved work doesn't get tossed into the trash, so where exactly does it go? Is like an erasure?
    Thank you.

Make sure your auto save function is on, http://support.finaldraft.com/article.aspx?cid=1001&aid=264 if it is on you should have a copy saved on you MacBook Air, do a spotlight search.

  • My Pages document will no longer show up on my iPad. It shows up on iCloud and i tried to download the document on to my computer. It only gives me an error and tells me to try again. Is there some way I could recover my document?

The other day I tried to open a document on my Pages app on my iPad. I soon notice I could no longer see it anywhere is my documents. I opened my laptop and went to iCloud.com to search for it there. On iCloud.com I am able to see the document but I can not do anything with it. I tried downloading it to my computer as a pdf. file but it just says error and to try again. I was able to copy the document but it does not allow me to download the copied document either. Is there some way I can recover the document or a pervious version of the document?

How are you seeing your document on iCloud from your laptop? Web browser, or OS X Pages open dialog?
If you have MS Word or .pages formatted files parked on iCloud, the web interface will not permit their download as PDF, and in fact, PDF is an inactive option in that download menu for these word processing files. There is no copy facility available, but duplicate functionality exists from the iWork category within the iCloud web presence.
If you have Pages v4.2 or later installed on your (assumption: Mac) laptop, launch Pages and in the open file dialog, select iCloud on the dialog toolbar. Now, press and hold the option key as you drag and drop a copy of our document from iCloud to your desktop. The reverse works also.
See if you can open that document on your laptop now.

  • I accidentally deleted documents from Pages on my iphone - and now they won't show up on my mac anymore either.  I must have saved them just on icloud and not on my mac, too.  is there anyway to recover these documents?

On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved.  It's saved at:
    ~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac.

    Hi Sailor,
It is pretty amazing you got a new version without even knowing it.
In System Preferences > App Store you can turn off the automatic updates by unchecking "Install app updates" as I've done here:
If you're using Numbers across platforms and displaying dynamic output on the iPad or doing data entry there, you'll be *much* happier with Numbers 3.0 than the old version. If you're doing a lot of traditional printing of heavily formatted documents, the old version is much better.  For most day-to-day uses in between it's a toss-up.  The new version, despite its flaws, is a powerful application that can enhance productivity in ways the old version can't.
For more on the differences between the two, see the features gained, features lost, and workarounds threads, plus Apple's support document on features to be reintroduced in the coming months .

  • Hi, I would like to know how can I recover a document from pages that I didn't save anytime and instead of clicking the button save I clicked the delete button at the end. Is there any way to recover it?

Hi, I would like to know how can I recover a document from pages that I didn't save anytime and instead of saving the doc I clicked the delete button. Is there any way to recover it?

Regardless of application, the first step that I take is to save and name the current document — even if it has no content yet. With Pages, this good habit enables autosave. As you add content, your document revision history is restorable via the File Revert To menu. The delete key has the same document foreboding as only teaching a pet raven to speak "Nevermore."

  • I recently updated to the OSX 10.8.3 Operating Sistem.  I am writing a book and now cannot open any word document I've created.  Could not find a newer version of the Microsoft Word Processing Program.  Is Pages the next thing? Can I recover my documents?

I recently updated to the OSX 10.8.3 Operating Sistem.  I am writing a book and now cannot open any word document I've created with the old system.  Could not find a newer version of the Microsoft Word Processing Program.  Is Pages the next thing? Can I recover my documents?  How?

I'm in the same boat: new to OS X and Mac, and in the middle of a book. I switched because I heard about the the ease of using Mac, but so far, for me, it's been a nightmare. I bought 2011 Office Mac and hate everything about it, the most recent being the inability to open or cut or paste any of my original word files. I understand that this could have easily been done with earlier versions, but not Mountain Lion (which I learned is what OSX is.) Since I work with language, I am amazed at the assumptions of the Apple community. It helps to use common language and explain even the basics.
So all the helpful hints to use the latest version of Office Mac are to no avail. Now what?

  • Recover pages document after power failure

I lost power on my iMac and lost my Pages 08 document I was working on (no I didn't save it yet! :-( learning has occurred). Is there a way to recover this document?

Check your trash can.  If it isn't there, check this document:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
If none of the above tools can do it, unfortunately there is no way to recover.
Backup your data and save frequently to avoid this happening again.
Consider getting an APC Surge protector with built-in battery backup.
It can give you up to 15 minutes time to save files depending on the model you get.
Not all have the battery, so check which is best for your Mac model by contacting APC.
