Recovery and opening files

Yesterday I had to restore my computer back to it's factory settings because of a virus. I backed up my pictures and files on a WD passport. After I moved them back over to the computer they will not open. They show up as shortcuts, but will not open. Can anyone help. I am more worried about all of my pictures I will lose if I can not retrieve them.  I've tried opening it with another program and still wont open, then it changes all of my icons to whatever service I tried to open it with. I am at a loss. Thanks in advance.

    The same thing happened recently between Final Cut Express and my other LaCie external hard drive used as the Scratch disk. It fixed itself.
    I've run out of ideas. Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

    have you done some searches on FCPx and time machine? Is there a known issue with using a TM drive with FCPx? dunno but ...wait...I'll take 60 sec for you cause I'm just that kind of guy....   google...." fcpx time machine problem"  Frist page link

  • Error during restore/recovery and 'open resetlogs'

    Hello forum. I'm attempting to restore a database to a new host and have run into an error during the opening of the database (with resetlogs). The renaming of the datafiles, restore, switching of datafiles, and recovery are all done by an rman script, the contents of which are below:
    # Restore production database to DR site using file system
    # instead of ASM
    run {
    set newname for datafile 1 to '/opt/oracle/product/10gR2/oradata/DB01/system.dbf';

    I searched for a decription of the 06054 error, and found that if the archive logs weren't available, then to run "alter database open resetlogs;", which I did. Here's the output:
    RMAN> alter database open resetlogs;

    RMAN-06900: WARNING: unable to generate V$RMAN_STATUS or V$RMAN_OUTPUT row

    ORA-06553: PLS-801: internal error [56319]
    I've done all of this twice now, with the same result. I've googled PLS-801 and found more than a few instances of people getting this code, but not during a database open after a restore. Can anyone shed some light on what might have gone wrong? In the interest of brevity, I left out the rest of the restore process prior to running the database restore, but other than setting "compatible" and "db_recovery_file_dest_size", it was all by the book.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply Pierre.
    I am not using RMAN Duplicate. Yes, the source of the backup is an RAC. The destination is a single server, with the DB on the filesystem. Here's an overview of of the commands I ran and the procedure.
    Copied tar'd backup controlfile and datafiles to destination machine. Untar'd. Install 10.2.0.1.0 on destination machine, patch to 10.2.0.2.0.
    OS> sqlplus /nologin
    SQL> alter system set compatible = '10.2.0.2.0' scope=spfile;
    SQL> alter system set db_recovery_dest_file_size = '8g'; scope spfile;
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    SQL> startup; (to verify changes took...)
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    OS> Copy control file from untar'd dir and place in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/, truncate name to c-DBID-date-00.
    OS> rman target /
    RMAN> startup nomount;
    RMAN> set dbid <dbid from control file>;
    RMAN> restore controlfile from autobackup; (finds control file with no problem...)
    RMAN> alter database mount;
    RMAN> @/home/oracle/rman_dr.rman (script cited in first post, to rename datafiles from ASM to filesystem, restore, switch files, and recover...)
    RMAN> alter database open resetlogs; (as cited before...)
    If I'm not using Duplicate and not specifying dates, the UNTIL/SET UNTIL commands aren't necessary, correct?

  • Problems launching Bridge from Photoshop and opening files as smart objects in Photoshop from Lightr

    I am running Photoshop CC (up to date as of today) and Lightroom 5.2.  I  am hitting 2 major problems.  In Photoshop if I select File/Browse in Bridge I get the following message
    "Could not complete the Browse in Bridge command because Photoshop was unable to find the JavaScript plug-in".
    However if I simply launch Bridge as an application it works ok (now I have reset the default application for all the appropriate file extentions to Photoshop CC rather than Photoshop in Bridge preferences) and opens the file in Camera Raw 8.2 in Photoshop when a Raw file is double clicked.
    The second problem is associated with opening raw files in Lightroom 5.2, editing and then trying to "photo/edit in/Open as smart object in Photoshop" .  In this case Photoshop opens with a blank screen and nothing happens  Eventually about a minute later this message appears in Lightroom 5.2
    "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched."
    Rather strange message as the first thing that happened was that Photoshop CC opened!!
    Same thing happens if try "photo/Edit in/Edit in Adobe Photoshop CC" except that having shut down photoshop I see a message from Lightroom 5.2 saying
    Lightoom was unable to prepare the selected file at ..... for editing.  It will not be opened.
    When I click the OK button on this message low and behold the tif version of the RAW file opens in Photoshop. ready for futher editing with all the Lightroom edits applied.
    Can anyone help me in sorting out this problem please
    Operating system is Windows 8 64 bit and I am running the 64 bit Adobe applications.

    Solved the problems by uninstalling Bridge and Photoshop then going into Creative Cloud App and re-installing both.

  • Copy and open files on local filesystem?

    Hello,
    For a change request, I have a rather tricky requirement. Suppose each user of the application always has a mapped network drive to a server, let's say drive "k:\", pointing to "\\servername\someDirectory\docs". This folder contains a lot of Word (.doc) files. What the customer wants is a button in the application that copies one or more documents from the "k:\" drive to a local folder, and opens them in Word. The reason the files have to be copied to the local file system is that opening them on the server would result in a read-only copy, whereas the users should be able to edit the opened version.
    So the user is in the adf application, clicks a button, and then one or more word documents should be opened. These documents should be local copies of the documents in the "k:\" drive. The location where to put the local copies can be easily determined, the path(s?) of the relevant document(s?) on the "k:\" drive is known, and the location of MS Word / Office can also be determined. So I have at my disposal for example following Strings:
    tmpDir = "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\"
    serverDir = "\\servername\someDirectory\docs\"
    doc1 = "doc1.doc"
    doc2 = "doc2.doc"
    doc3 = "doc3.doc"
    wordLocation = c:\program files\microsoft office\office10In the current Forms application, there is a button that uses WebUtil to:
    <ul>
    <li>Creates an empty .bat file on the local file system (eg C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp, determined by the tmpDir String)</li>
    <li>In this bat file, there are one ore more copy commands added, to copy the doc files from the server to the local Temp dir:
    copy \\servername\someDirectory\docs\doc1.doc C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp
    copy \\servername\someDirectory\docs\doc2.doc C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp
    copy \\servername\someDirectory\docs\doc3.doc C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Tempor in other words:
    copy serverDir || doc1 tmpDir
    copy serverDir || doc2 tmpDir
    copy serverDir || doc3 tmpDir</li>
    <li>Next, the necessairy commands are added to the .bat file to open Word with the local copies:
    cd c:\program files\microsoft office\office10
    start WINWORD.EXE C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\doc1.doc C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\doc2.doc  C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\doc3.docor in other words:
    cd wordLocation
    start WINWORD.EXE  tmpDir || doc1 tmpDir || doc2 tmpDir || doc3</li>
    <li>Finally, an exit command is also added to the .bat file and the .bat file is executed on the client through WebUtil.</li>
    </ul>
    The resulting .bat file that is executed on the client would look like this as a whole:
    copy \\servername\someDirectory\docs\doc1.doc C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp
    copy \\servername\someDirectory\docs\doc2.doc C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp
    copy \\servername\someDirectory\docs\doc3.doc C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp
    cd c:\program files\microsoft office\office10
    start WINWORD.EXE C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\doc1.doc C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\doc2.doc  C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp\doc3.doc
    exitAny suggestions on how I can do this in the cleanest possible way in adf 10.1.3? I do realise that this is not something you want to do in a web application, but this is an important requirement for the customer...
    Help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Browsing and opening files from a file server

    Hello!
    I am interested if it is possible with AIR to browse files from a file server that is connected to a local network and open them. F.e. I want to create an application that opens template files with their native programs and save them on the file server under different name.
    Thank you in advance
    Lynda

    AIR 2 (now at labs.adobe.com) has features you are looking for. An AIR 2 application can open a file in the default system application registered for the file type. (The file server must be a mounted volume on the computer.)
    An extended desktop application (an AIR 2 application that is installed with a native installer) can communicate with another application. So, if the AIR (extended desktop) application knows the path to the native application, it can open that application and communicate with it. If the native application has APIs for opening and saving files, the AIR application can communicate with it using those APIs. (So, this functionality depends on the capabilities of the native application.)

  • Freeze during column view in finder and open file box?

    Whenever I open a file and the open file dialog box is in column view it freezes when I click on the file and the view shifts to reveal the icon and info. It happens a lot in finder too, but not as often. It usually doesn't start happening for a few minutes after I reboot.
    I'm pretty sure quicktime is associated with that icon/image preview. I just formatted my hard drive hoping that would help but it doesn't. I have to force quit applications alot if I forget to get out of column view...someone please help!
    I don't remember this happening before I installed macromedia studio 8, but I'm not sure. I have to use those programs.

  • RW2 preview in finder and "Open file" dialog

    Hello,
    I run into a curiosity with RW2 file format (from LX3 and FZ38). In Finder, RW2 preview is not displayed and only default icon (black icon with text exec in corner). The same RW2 files does have correct preview, when I browse them in "Open file" dialog window (for example Safari > File > Open File...).
    How it is possible the Finder and Open dialog do have different settings? Is it possible to copy these settings?
    Thank You

  • Import and Open File options freeze up

    When I click any Import option (Word, HTM, merge XPJ), the browser window does not open to allow me to select files.  This happens on ALL import options.
    The RoboHelp screen freezes up and I get an error sound when I click any other option.  This requires me to press ESC in order to continue.
    The same error occurs when I use the Open file option from the RoboHelp started.  If I use Windows Explorer to browse to the project, I can open it.  If I click Open file, I get the same screen freeze-up and no browser.
    I am working via VPN.  The Import works fine when I'm connected to the enterprise server in the office.
    Is there an option or setting I can select to enable the Open file, Import > Word, Import > HTM or merge options via VPN?  I've tried several different log-in options and reviewed by Windows file set-up and security.  I'm totally stuck.
    I am using Office 2010 and RoboHelp 10; our office uses Subversion, but the files are checked out properly.
    As I said, I can import from the office when connected to the network.
    Has anyone experienced this before?
    Louis Lynch

    Hi there
    Maybe it's that the window is in an area that can't be displayed!
    Try this. When the window does not appear, press and hold the Windows logo key, then press perhaps the left arrow key a couple of times. See if the window is maybe hidden and pops into view.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Visual focus and "Open file" filechooser dialog

    Hi,
    I noticed that with "System L&F" in Windows XP, the "Open file" dialog than pops up does not have visual focus on icon on the left or the icons on the top. This behavior is different from what is observed with Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat.
    When tabbing in the box, the File name, Files of type, Save, Cancel, and Save in options all have visual focus. The visual focus is lost until the actual focus is back on the File name field.
    Is there a way to get this dialog work the way it does in MS Word or Adobe Acrobat ?
    Thanks
    VM

    Hi was there any necessity to update? or did you just hit "Auto-Update" and did that instead? In the future,try not to update if the machine is working properly."If it ain't broke,don't fix it" famous American saying.

    We have two rooms that are identical to eachother, purpose being that themes can be written in one room, and then smaller cues can be assembled from these themes in the other room. We normally transfer cues between the two rooms over our network. This system has worked fairly well for quite some time. But recently, we've experienced odd issues.
    We'll call the main room "A", and the second room "B".
    If a cue gets copied from A to B, and it has Stormdrum in it, when playback is started, a loud high pitched buzz comes from the Stormdrum channel. The only thing that fixes this is taking out the Stormdrum, saving, closing Logic, restarting Logic, opening the cue, and then reinstantiating Stormdrum and it's multi preset. The buzz thing is weird.
    If a cue gets copied from B to A, and it has Kontakt 2 in it, while the cue is loading, the following error message is displayed:
    "Kontakt 2: Error parsing input file at line 522"
    Never seen that one before. I am going to try repairing and verifying permissions, and see if that helps. Maybe a little zapping of the PRAM?
    Any suggestions? Anyone know what error parsing input file means? That's a new one. And why all of the sudden would Logic have a problem with copied sessions between the two rooms? The last film was so smooth, no errors, no copying problems. It was so nice. Now we're back to kooky error messages and buzzing plugins.
    Many many thanks as always.

    Anyone have an idea what these error messages mean?
    "File is busy; one or more files are open
    Result code = -47"
    "Fade Update Failed
    (Error -47)"
    Ok, there are two issues here, which may or may not be related.
    The first is the NI issue (is it just the NI plugs (Kontakt, Intakt, Kompakt) that are giving you these errors btw, or do you get similar funky behaviour on non-NI stuff?)
    The second is almost certainly a permissions problem.
    Those two errors are indicating the same thing - that the file write failed. This could indicate that Logic didn't have the correct permissions when trying to write to the disk, or that it was trying to overwrite a file that it didn't have the permissions to overwrite - for example when using crossfades, Logic writes out the little overlapped transitions as fade files, and needs to refresh them under certain conditions (like, when you changed some fade settings, or you first hit play, when Logic updates the fades before playback etc).
    Permissions can be a pain, or they can be easy to deal with. I would suggest you have a look at the main song folders and do a get-info in the finder, and have a look at whether your user has permissions to overwrite them - you can change the permissions back to your user and "apple to enclosed" to reset all the permissions on the current folder down (recursively).
    This is primarily to do with writing files BTW, rather than reading them, so if you are writing things anywhere else, such as settings files, audio files, and so on, take a look at the permissions of their locations as well.
    Also, you might want to try running a "repair permissions" from disk utility, as sometimes things can go a little screwy.
    If you really get problems, sometimes there can be some odd stuff going on with your user account on your Mac, so if things get bad, it's often worth checking whether you still get the same behaviour when logged in as another user (this is a last resort step, as you'll probably need to reinstall or move some stuff, depending on how you set your machines up.)
    The NI think might be a little more tricky, as NI stuff still has some, er, "colorful" behaviour on Macs, although it's much better than it used to be. I'd probably run some tests of some sample new songs, moving the files to the other room and opening them up - do they always give the errors you are seeing, or is it only on some songs? Do they error when only using single instances, or only multiple instances of the plugs? That kind of thing.
    Also, try these tests after you looked at the permissions stuff, because the two problems may be related, with the NI stuff not being able to load or access certain files giving random problems - I'm not saying that's what it is, but it's worth checking on the offchance...

  • Saving and Opening files from Flash Drive Mac to Windows Computer

    Hi!
    I recently purchased a generic Flash drive (2gb). I am having problems saving things on it. Sometimes when i drag a file to the flash drive icon it doesn't load properly or transfers well. I try opening it and it says: "FILE ERROR
    Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Some documents do open well. I also tried opening files on a windows computer and it says it has to be formated. I format it and of course everything deletes.
    Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
    Thanks

    OK. I did.
    But here is the problem, it still doesn't save certain file on the flash drive. Most of the files are either jpg.,cwk.,pdf., or mov.
    The mov. won't even play. It works fine when i save files from a windows computer, but not when i save from my mac.
    I really have no idea why its doing this. I am aware that certain file can't be opened from a mac to a window, but i just don't know why, when i place a file into the flash drive icon and try to re-open it, it says the error message again (On my mac).
    Thanks.

    When connected to more than one Windows server at a time (SMB1 or 2), Excel and Word 2011 will not open files. Disconnect from one server and it works again...help please
    Running 10.9.5

    I fixed my own issue. It ended up being the two servers had a share on each that had the same name. Once I renamed one of the shares the issue stopped.
