Recovery disc failed

Hi everyone,
I'm using HP Pavilion g6-2202tx Notebook PC. My lappy is suffering from virus so I'm interested in System Recovery using recovery disc. I had done it twice very successfully but this time an error message shows as "Invalid Disc". Please suggest what to do.

This error code occurs when using recovery discs that were created or ordered for a different computer than the one you are trying to recover. However, if you've used these same discs on this same computer successfully before, that is very strange indeed.
Did you make these discs, or did you order them from HP? Have you cleaned the discs, tested the CD/DVD drive, and checked for firmware updates for your CD/DVD drive? If you've replaced the hard drive since your last successful recovery, the software at this link could help.

  • Pravilion dv7 series hard drive replaced after recovery disc fail

I tried to use the recovery portion of my hard drive when my Pavilion dv7-4173 US laptop failed to operate.  After trying the recovery portion of the hard drive several times I got a error message saying the bootmgr was missing. I Tried using  the Recovery disks I had made at the store I purchased the computer before taking it home and they failed. They worked  up to 32% and then stopped.  I took the laptop and the Recovery discs (6 discs)  to another retail store's tech department. After several days I was told the Recovery Disc where no good/damaged. When I contacted the purchased store I was told  I needed to bring in the laptop and recovery discs. They replaced the hard drive, saying that was the problem, but did not partition it. They decided to up graded the OS system from Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit., but did not try the Recovery Discs. Can I use the Recovery Disc they made me, if the are good, to restore the laptop back to factory fresh?  I know it will place Windows 7 Home OS system back on the computer, but I'd like all the programs back that came with computer. Will I be able to upgrade the OS to Professional? I have the Windows 7 Professional disc.  If my recovery disc will not work, can I use  the Recovery Disc, only 2 discs as opposed to 6, that I can purchase from HP and then upgrade to Professional?

Hello skip61.  I want to make sure I understand.  A shop replaced the hard drive for you and installed Windows 7 Profession 64-bit in the process.  They also replaced your bad recovery media with a new set of Windows 7 Profession recovery discs.  is this correct?
If you want the notebook to revert back to the factory defaults you will need a set of discs from HP directly.  This will properly partition the hard drive and set the notebook back up with Windows 7 Home and the software that came with the notebook.
You can upgrade your version of Windows 7 at any time you'd like.  This is a feature built into Windows itself.  So check out this Microsoft article on how to update.
To order a set of recovery discs from HP just give them a call.  The number is 1-800-474-6836 for the US/Canada.  If you're outside of this area check this site to get your region's contact information.
I hope this is helpful; have a great weekend!

  • Hp g5000 system recovery disc fails 1002

    Hi
My frends daughter took the hp laptop to america and subsequently the hard disc failed so with no recovery disc she went to a repair center and had a new hard disc fitted.
i ordered the system recovery disc from best2serve but the laptop would not boot from it?
I tried the disc in my HP Desktop and it worked fine so DVD player is suspect also.
I then tried my Dell Vista recovery disc from my C521 desktop and that worked fine.
If i then mounted the recovery disc it looked fine and i could read all the contents Strange Just cant boot from it.
Anyway downloaded the HP Bios update in case that would fix it (no good still would not boot)
so went back to my Desktop and built a USB Bootable flash drive with contents of Recovery disc
It booted fine and started recovery Manager selected rebuild Hard disc (cant remember exact words)
and shortly after failed error 1002 contact HP
have searched error 1002 and WoW wish i had just not wasted time buying the recovery disc as endless calls all say They do not work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ps It also destroyed the working Dell Vista that was on
can anyone suggest where to start
    1) to Install Genuine HP recovery image from recovery disc (with suspect dvd)
    2) get money back if possible
    3) ps AS USUAL OUT OF WARRANTY

    More on this saga,
the 120 gig drive replaced by 250 gig after first disk failed.
Purchased another dvd drive as could nor read HP recovery dvd (neither would work)
the second drive has exactly the same problem it would not read the dvd-r or dvd+r copies that I had created.
Wasted my money on problem that did not exist
( I should have known that XP and Dell Vista disks worked o/k so problem is with the Bios Firmware for this drive)
This time I used a USB Flash copy of Windows 7 Update DVD and removed all partitions leaving a completely unformatted disk.
Then rebuilt the USB flash drive this time with HP Recovery disk and started the recovery process. (the 1002 must mean I want a empty disk)
As I speak it has been going for over 2 hours with FBI gui manager doing bits of updating and rebooting.
one post says it will take 3 hours and 25 reboots ( i have lost count)
By Chance HP rang to say how was it going with replacement DVD that was sent (I bet he wished he had not rung he spent over 1 hour waiting with not much help as to what was expected to happen)
Told him about not being able to read DVD (solution 5 year old PC may not be able to read it!!!!!!!!!)
any way Flash usb copy of DVD does work if that help anyone.
One of the reboots showed PC Angel? something about recovery but as FBI GUI minimised I did nothing (dissapeared after next reboot)
Then went into recovery Manager and said creating recovery please wait (another 1/2 hour)
small problem ends with recovery manager said i wanted to recover and seems to have restarted the whole process again!!!!!
    urgh
Will update if the recovery fails or works so it may benefit all

  • Satellite L300D - Vista recovery disc fails

    Hi,
my 1 Y old satellite L300D-12U /VISTA was sold without recovery disc, so I made the discs as described in the users guide.
last week we wanted to reinstalll the system and tried to use the disc, the installation started, but after 15 minutes it failed with some error messages ....
as mentioned several times in this forum I ordered an official product recovery disc , taht was shipped by the german supplier arvato services.
unfortunately these installations failed with the same messages .. as described below.
any comments, what to do (except buying a new vista license ...) ??
    thank you !

In my opinion you should contact nearest authorized service and explain the situation. I can imagine that self created recovery DVD can be somehow defect but original one. I don't think so
I don't know for sure but maybe HDD make problems.
Contact service and explain the situation. they can put new HDD inside and test recovery installation with your original Toshiba recovery DVD.

  • Satellite U300-13U fails to boot and Recovery disc fails to work too

    Hi All,
I have the above computer (or should I say my wife) & it has been nothing but a right pain since the first day we got it.
I have had it about 2 years & must have had to reformat the HD at least 6-8 times using the Product Recovery Disc as laptop wouldn't boot.
    The laptop runs Vista.
Anyway problem I have now is that once again laptop fails to boot but for some reason Product Recovery disc also fails to work.....
    What can I do...
I have read on various forums that it might work if I reformat the HD first using some s/w on a bootable CD but how/ what S/W do I use.....?
The laptop has a 160Gb SATA HD installed. How can I check this is all working.
I have no idea if current problem is S/W or hardware related..
Does Toshiba have a utility I can use...?
    Many thanks for any help....
    John

    Hi Paolo,
Thks for the reply. I have made some success since I posted. I actually downloaded Ubuntu & created a boot up disk. I have managed to successfully load this alongside the Vista (which doesn't work) & everything seems OK - so all I can say is that it must be somekind of s/w issue or perhaps damaged sectors or something on the Vista install.
I am happy to use Ubuntu - it will be interesting to see if I have to do anymore reformats in future...
    Thks, John

  • Recovery from Recovery Discs failed

My notebook is an Envy 17t-3200 3d CTO. It originally had Windows 7 (64 bit). I upgraded it to Windows 8 (64-bit) and then using the Windows store I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I loaned my Notebook to someone when I got it back I noticed a lot of programs on it that they had installed. So I decided to use my recovery disks (Windows 7 64-bit) to clean everything off and reload what I wanted. The recovery choices that appear include “system recovery” and “factory reset”. I decided to select the “factory reset” since it would format my Windows drive and then restored the notebook to the factory condition. After loading the five recovery disks I got screen that said the recovery has failed. It saved the information to a CAB file, but this forum doesn't support attachements.

    Hi AirForce9731,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 17t-3200 3D Notebook and recovery manager fails to restore. Here is a link to troubleshoot why the recovery manager fails  to restore.
Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
    Hope this helps.

  • HP 650 Notebook PC (C1N10EA#ABH) - Recovery Discs Fail To Work

    Dear forum-users,
since late March I have been trying to get my notebook back to default factory setting (Windows 8), after installing Windows 7. Sadly, all my pre-installed back-ups on the notebook were lost in the process and I have not other back-ups of the system.
Now I received recovery discs from the HP customer support to use on my notebook. However, every time I try to use these discs, I receive the error that the media cannot be used, error code: 0130-ABH-ABB. I already searched through this forum to find a solution. These attempts resulted in downgrading and upgrading the BIOS, but it did not work for me.
Is there anyone who has some experience with these matters, and can assist me with this? I could call the HP customer support again, but I prefer to try it over the fora first. Thanks in advance.

  • HP Windows 8 Recovery Failed (Used Recovery Discs)

Hi. I not sure where to begin.
    System Info-
    HP Pavilion g6t-2200 Notebook
    Windows 8 (64bit)
This is my sisters Computer. Her system was running slow so I was going to reinstall the OS using the Recovery Media I ordered for the system. Ive reinstalled Operating Systems for muliple computers since Windows 2000.
I got 3 Discs titled - System Recovery DVD Windows 8 Recovery Media for Windows 8 Products -
and 1 Application and Driver Recovery DVD.
I started the PC, Went into the UEFI (BIOS) And changed the Boot Options to CD-DVD Drive, Inserted Disc 1 and Restarted
The Recovery Manager Loaded and Started the Factory Image reset.
I inserted All 3 CDs when prompted during the "Reformatting the Windows Partition of the Hard Drive" , "Copying Files required to Restore the Hard Drive" and "Restoring Files to the Hard Drive"
I was then told that if I received any additional Recovery CDs to insert them now. I had that Application and Driver Recovery DVD, But did not insert it and chose to skip, due to the fact the CD did not come in the same Sleeve as the others.
The PC restarted and went through an Installation Process and several Restarts. After all of that, The PC restarted and told me that the Recovery Had FAILED. I was given the option to retry, or create a Dump File.
I am at a lost, Should I have used the disc when prompted? Any support would be nice =D
    This question was solved.

  • Copy file fails hp sent recovery discs Windows 7

I have been trying to solve this for a month now and am at the end of my tether.
I am now on my third set of recovery discs from HP and all have the same problem. I insert disc 1 as instructed to on the support forum. It runs through
Reformatting the windows partition of the hard drive - tick
Copying files required to restore the hard drive - tick
And immediately as that finishes, that window comes up :
    Reducer
    Copy file fails
    From:E:\PRELOAD\BASE.SWM
    To:C:\RM\Image\BASE.SWM
    Press OK to retry
ALL three sets of discs have the same out come.
What the heck is going on?
I am so sick of this.
Have read some other posts with similar problems but can't seem to work out the solution. I do not have an external hard drive I can use...only the laptop that I am trying to fix. (G6-1305sa)
Any help? It also doesn't help when HP support is only open on the phones until 5.30 Monday to Friday. I am at work so can't call. So frustrating....
    Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh
    This question was solved.

    Hi Belj,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Pavilion g6-1305sa Notebook and not able to restore Windows. If the HDD is faulty this might cause the restore not to go well. You might try to run a hardware test.  Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. Is this the original HDD? Have you replaced any other parts? Have you tried to do a clean install of Windows 7. Try running sfc /scannow would scan your system for errors at the command prompt. You can get to the command prompt by clicking F11 at startup. You could check this Microsoft document on system recovery options.
    Hope this is a help.
    Thanks.

  • Recovery from created discs failed...what did I do wrong?

I had created the recovery discs shortly after getting the T61 - 6459CTO w/ Vista.  It created 1 CD to be labeled START Recovery  and 2 DVDs labeled Product Recovery 1 & 2.  BIOS sequence was changed to boot from the CD.
Inserted and booted from the start recovery CD.  It then asked if I had an Operating System Recovery Disc...I said YES but none of the 3 discs were recognized as valid after inserting so I pressed NO.  It then asked for Product recovery Disc 1 and Disc 2 which I did.  It then asked for a Supplemental recovery disc.  I don't have one of those and pressed no.    A message started counting down...went down to 1 second and the machine hung.  I finally had to hold the power button for an extended time to power it down.
    (a) Should my system have created an OS recovery disc?
    (b) Should it have created a Supplemental Product disc?
    (c) Is this the proper sequence for a recovery from disc to "out of the box"  state?
    (d) suggestions?  (other than calling tech support for factory discs)
    Thanks much!
PS This is a fresh HD so no recovering from the service partition.

    hello
i assume that you have lost your hidden partiiton right?
supplementary s/w disks are model specific and donnot have much of an importance in recvery process it is the choice of the users according to which either you can use supplimentary cd's or not.but those cd's may contain essential s/w for runnning some services of your system as well..so coming to recovery thing ..if you aleady had vista installed you should not have done the reocovery process..if you still have vista installed try making the discs once again
do check out this link as well

    Regards
    Manish

Recovery partition is meant to be used on a working system, it can however be used in a different manner but is difficult for most people unless you are a computer geek of sorts.
See this thread on how someone used the files from the restore partition to recover to a new hard drive, you would need another working Windows PC to do this.

If you call HP on the phone they can verify for sure if they have the recovery discs or not.
If they do not, you can purchase them here

  • Lenovo T61p - Product recovery disc creation fails

    Hi,
I tried creating a set of product recovery disc, the process started decently to extract the information/files. Then the process abruptly stops and gives a msg saying "The process has encountered an internal error."
    Pls Help.
    Rgds,
    Sumit

As  lead_org  says, call Lenovo and explain the problem you have encountered, especially the error message, "The process has encountered an internal error." If they don't offer to send you free recovery media, politely explain to them that it's not your fault that you can't make the media on your own. If you're firm and persistent (call back later and try another agent) they will relent

  • HP Envy M6 Recovery DVD fail after First Disc.

    Hello Fellow Members and Support
What I have done so far:
    - I have purchased and installed a new Harddrive for my HP Envy M6-1184ca Laptop.
    - I have run the Harddrive diagnosics test wizard to verify it has been installed correctly.
    - I have set the bios to default settings.
    -  I Purchased The recovery DVD pack from HP.
    -  I have inserted DVD disc  1 of the Windows 8 64 bit Recovery DVD Set.
    The Situation:
I have booted up the Laptop and hit esc until the boot menu appeared with the option  to press F9 then select to boot from internal UEFI DVD Boot media.
Then I Press any key to boot from cd / DVD and see the HP logo. I am prompted with a Black installation to select english or french. I select English and select next. The computer runs through the following:
    - Reformatting the Windows partition of the harddrive
    - Copying files required to restore the harddrive
    - Restoring files to the hard drive.
Then the DVD gets ejected and the laptop screen goes black and the laptop is not off.
    What is next?
I have not touched it until I hear back from support here.
