Recovery disc usage with Qosmio notebook

I had someone re-install WXP without the recovery disc and Qosmio engine as I did not have them. Now I am missing things like Bluetooth, the manual for the laptop, as well as other apps and such.
Toshiba mailed me the replacement discs. Now I have them. Do I need to do a whole system reformat-re-install of windows to get my old computer back? I have downloaded the manual tonight but I dont think it addresses this situation as I remember. Nothing on the posts either.
Anyone do this before?
Thanks

Hi trvlbum,
It is unlikely (but possible) that the QosmioPlayer Partition was deleted. Try starting the Qosmio by pressing the TV Button on the Panel rather than the big "On" Button.
If you are interested in Media Center, then you will need to reinstall everything from the Recovery DVD because MCE is a whole different Operating System to WXP. All data on the Qosmio will be destroyed. There is no upgrade path (unless you go to Vista Home Premium or Ultimate Upgrade).
If QosmioPlayer doesn't boot, and you would like it, you should install it from the QosmioPlayer CD, then install the OS (MCE plus Apps) using the Recovery DVD.
If you don't want QosmioPlayer or MCE, I would be interested to hear if you are able to install the other Applications and Drivers from the Recovery DVD even though you don't have the original Operating System. Just insert the Recovery DVD and select Install Applications and Drivers... (that's assuming your Recovery DVD has a similar interface to mine. I have a G20.)

    Problem:
Notebook failed to start. Bought recovery disc set from HP and tried to do the factory restore (Factory image recovery)
The first two steps went smoothly:
    1) "Reformatting the window partition of the ard drive;"
    2) "Copying files required to restore the hard-drive;"
But at step 3: "Restoring files to the hard-drive", when the progress bar showed 46%, it got stuck and the following  error message popped up:

I tried a few times and every time it got stuck at exactly the same point.

    Hi,
Assuming this is just a problem with the recovery media, here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the exact same version that originally came with your notebook ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source, however there are only limited versions available.
    Windows-7 sp1-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.

  • Do the recovery discs come with an operating system?

I was given a Toshiba satellite A215-S4747 a year ago. I don't have a recovery disc and can't do a restore from the hard disc. After putting windows 7 on it, it has been nothing but problems with the drivers and such. At this point I just want it at factory default again. Since my I never had the recovery disc in the first place, I don't mind paying for one, but I need to know if I will have to purchase a Vista OS disc as well or if it will come with the requested recovery disc for my laptop. Thanks in Advance!

    Howdy!
Not sure why you are having issues with the drivers, but if you go to the following link, it lists all the drives which you can sort via which version of Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) you are running.
    Satellite A215-S4747
Another option to keep in mind is, depending on how you installed Windows 7, you may still have the recovery partition that discs would have been made from.  If so, your manual, which can be downloaded at the link I provided above, may tell you which keys to press during the boot process to access and run it.
Worse case scenario where you just buy the OEM recovery discs from Toshiba, they will include everything you need from the Windows OS, to the correct drivers, to the Toshiba extra support software.  It will literally load to the state it was right out of the box.  As such, no, you will not need to purchase a retail copy of Windows Vista off the shelf.  The only kicker to that would be if Vista was not the originally installed OS.  Easiest way to check this is to look on the bottom of the laptop where the OS sticker is with your particular serial key.  Whatever it says there will be what is on the recovery disc when you receive it.
If you have any other questions or need further assist, please feel free to post here.  Best of luck.

  • Factory rescue and recovery disc usage

I figured I'd ask here before I get very, very angry.
My ThinkPad SL400 has experienced a massive failure.  I was able to rescue my documents, etc., but the boot software was corrupted and I needed to do a complete system restore.  I didn't have viable rescue and recovery discs and so paid $45 plus shipping to order a set of them from Lenovo.  They came with instructions, which I have followed.
Step 9 of their instructions states:
"When all of the data has been copied from the last disc in the set, a message is displayed prompting you to restart the computer.  Remove the disc and then click Yes.
Note: The remainder of the recovery process is fuly automated and no action is required by you.  the computer will restart into the Windows desktop several times and you might experience periods when no activity is apparent on the screen for several minutes at a time.  This is normal."
Unfortunately, that's not what happened.  When I rebooted the machine I got a message stating:
8206 - Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key.
I've restarted the machine several times with no different answer.  I tried booting from the first two Rescue and Recovery discs they sent and neither worked to complete the boot process.  I tried changing the boot device to the hard drive and it didn't work.  I called Lenovo Technical Support and they told me that, even though I had JUST PURCHASED the discs, they would not answer my questions about how to use them.
I am feeling very much like I just poured $50+ down a rathole with a company that won't stand behind its products.
Hopefully you guys can give me some suggestions before I call my credit card company and ask them to remove the charge as a fraudulent purchase.

So i guess you selected the optical drive to be the first one to boot in the boot up list?

  • Recovery from recovery discs made with recovery manager on g62

I got the blue screen of death and had to do a system restore for my hp g62 laptop. Before i restored the computer, the recovery manager launched and had me backup my files. I backed up the system on like 15 discs using hp"s recovery manager. After it was done, i returned the computer back to factory settings. Now, im having a problem using the recovery discs made thru the recovery manager. The files arent being read. I tried to copy them and move them onto the hard drive....and they are all saved as .wim files....which arent read by anything. So i have all my files backed up, but that arent opening. How the hell do i open my files that i backed up? How do i put my files back on the computer?

    Hi,
I've never really used the HP File Recovery system, but you can open an Image file as follows.
Download and install 7-Zip from the following link.
    http://www.7-zip.org/
When installed, right click on the .wim file, select 7-Zip, select Extract Files and click Ok - your files should be in the newly extracted folder.

  • Toshiba recovery disc usage for Satellite A300-211

i bought my lap last april and after the crash of the system.
I used the recovery disc that i made from the image on the hard disc but it erased all the data in the two partitions.
My question: Is there a way to use the disc to format partition C only without erasing the data on the other partition?

    Hi
To start the HDD recovery procedure follow these steps:
    - press F8 after powering up the unit
    - choose option Repair my Computer
    - in new window choose Toshiba HDD recovery
Now HDD recovery should start up and you should follow the steps on the screen.
As mentioned by Paupau, the HDD recovery should format the C but should leave the D partition untouched.

  • HP Paviliion dv6-6159tx loss the one recovery disc number 3rd disc

hello... m using dv6-6159tx recently i loss the one recovery disc number 3rd disc. now how i will get the 3rd recovery disc. I cant purchase the new one. Kindly solve my problem

Hello LossrecoverCD. I understand that you've misplaced one of your recovery discs and need to get or make some more. Is this correct?
If these discs came with your notebook and were not created by you you're able to make another copy for yourself. Just follow these instructions. However, you can only create one set of recovery discs. So if you lost one that you created you'll have to speak with HP to get more.

  • Windows 8 Recovery Discs

I have called Lenovo for Recovery Discs to be shipped to me since I have none to fix my laptop which came pre-installed with Windows 8. THEY verified my serial number to make sure it was still under warranty. I told the rep I had Windows 8 to make sure to send the right ones and she seemed to disregard my comment and immediately said Oh these are.for the G780 yes. But never asked if I had a 32 or 64 bit OS. Does this matter as they pull all my computers info.via.the serial.or.do.I need to call back to make sure they send the right ones?

    Here, what I found:
    On Lenovo Assisted Search: http://sw.nohold.net/Lenovo/Uploads/LenovoVirtualAgent.html
    click on: Idea...it opens page: http://www5.nohold.net/Lenovo/Loginr.aspx?pid=4&login=1 :
Lenovo:Welcome to Lenovo’s Assisted Search. It is designed to answer many IdeaPad related questions...
There's a link, 4th from the bottom: You want help with system recovery...if you click on that one, you would get:
http://www5.nohold.net/Lenovo/Loginr.aspx?pid=4&login=1 : You:You want help with system recovery,
then, click: You want help getting started with the total recovery process, gets you on page:
Lenovo:To start the total recovery process, follow the steps below:
Insert Start Recovery Disc labeled with number 1....
You'll see picture of Lenovo Restore Disc 1 and screenshots of recovery...
Just to get those discs, I was told, I have to pay $59.99
In other words, if something happens with HDD or you want to replace new HDD, you have to go and buy OS...Preinstalled Win8 Recovery on new HDD DOES NOT WORK - it's all over The Net....

If this is the HP Factory REcovery disk that you bought or they sent you then you need to contact HP warranty support and ask for replacement disk as your copy doesn't work.

  • NB205 Recovery Disc Craetor Hangs

I have been trying to create recovery discs for my nb205, but the app consistently hangs at the same point before completing DVD disc 1 (system recovery disc).  The Application recovery disc completed with no problem, but not the system recovery disc.  I tried it several times, including once in safe mode - same results.
I saw a Toshiba technical support note listed for this on the Toshiba support site, but the document was missing when I tried to open it.
Can anyone help me with this?  Thanks.

It's more than likely a corrupted file or files in the recovery partition.  You'll need to contact Toshiba about this and have them send you a set of recovery disks.  Since your system is not able to create them they should send them to you at no charge.  See this post for info on ordering them and make sure you explain the problem to them so they don't charge you.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Need to format my Equium A110-280 but have no recovery disc

As the subject says , i have no disc and need to reinstall my computer how to proceed?
I've googled for hours now so a answer would have been great :)
    /Martin

I dont think you will get original recovery disc for this old notebook model.
I recommend you to install own WXP using original Microsoft installation disc.
Al necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba support and download page.
This old notebook model you can find in Archive.
If you need more help you are welcome.

    Hi BH,
I have read the link you suggested and tried to find HP Recovery Manager at my notebook.
    1) I typed Start > Search > "Recovery" but it was not installed.
    2) I  ran the HP Software Setup to check recommended and optional HP applications. HP Recovery Manager was not there.
    3) I downloaded HP Recovery Manager for Windows 7 and ran the installation
    I accepted the default folder.
    C:\SWSetup\sp45415
It showed an installation form for a while and then completed with no message.
    4) I repeated action (1) but no HP Recovery Manager.
    5) I checked uninstall menu but no HP Recovery Manager.
Please let me know what to do next ?
