Recovery Discs New Hard Drive Size

Hi everyone,
I had created a set of recovery discs for my HP Pavillion G7 notebook. It was 6 discs. The original hard drive that the Recovery Discs were made from was a 750GB Hard Drive.
The hard drive started to die on that notebook. I have another notebook that I don't use that has a new 500GB in it. I switched out the Hard drives as they are compatible.
My question is can I use the Recovery Discs that I had made from the 750gb drive that now is dying and recover on the new hard drive that is 500GB. I started the process but it stalled about halfway through on disc 4. Is that because I put in a smaller hard drive?
At this point do I need to buy a hard drive that is at least 750GB?

Hi,
Recovery media can have issues if used on drives smaller than the original.
Another option you could consider, as your notebook originally shipped with Windows 8 and the activation key is stored in the Bios chip, would be to create your own OEM Windows 8 installation disc.

System recovery failed new hard drive

I have an HP Pavilion g-6 1d26dx laptop. I just replaced the hard drive with one ordered directly from HP. When I went through the System Recovery, using the disks from HP, I got the following message:
There might be unexpected reboot during specialize to BBV1
The process will cause CTO panic because the image might not be normal
I got this message after trying the system recovery with and without the supplement disc for Application and Driver Recovery DVD that came with my other disks.
I have no idea what that message means, but I would appreciate any help getting this resolved. I was operating on Windows 7.

I hate recovery disks. Too many times they don't work and you are left high and dry.
It has happened to me twice on different PC's.
Try the cyberlink patch for the recovery disks you purchased which may fix the issue.

If that fails to work, then the only other suggestion I have for you to get the operating system installed is the following and it is only good if you can still read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook.
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft Windows 7 product key and can live with the bare operating system and software/drivers found on your PC's support page, you can make a plain W7 installation media by reading the info below.
Use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link below. You need a DVD or a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
Use the 25 character windows 7 product key to activate your installation.

Help with recovery on new hard drive

i have a g42 230us notebook which the hard drive read immenent failure please back up as soon as possible so hard drive is no good i purchased a new hard drive the exact one in notebook the wd3200bekt scorpio black,so i plugged it in and turn on pc , now i get a error message that reads no bootable device---insert boot disk and press any key
ive tried this with and without recovery disk and get same error message ,
notebook came with windows 7 now my question is do i need to install windows 7 os before i run recovery disk or is the recovery disk suppose to install windows 7 and features
please help

Hi,
1. The recovery disc set will rebuild the machine back to factory settings for you.
2. Probably you need to change the booting order from BIOS, you need to boot from optical drive first. To do this, reboot the machine and tap F10 to access to BIOS, chang boot order, hit F10 again to save and then recover the machine using the disc sẹt.
3. Remember to change the booting order back at the end.

Non system disk error with recovery disks--New hard drive

Ordered new recovery disks from HP after installing brand new hard drive. Getting errors trying to boot/install. Now what?

It sounds like the boot device order is not set correctly. Please try this:
1. Remove the recovery disk (cd) from the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) if you have it loaded. Make sure the only
peripherals (cables) you have connected to the tower are the monitor, mouse, keyboard and main power.
2. Start the computer and immediately strike the F10 key to boot into the BIOS Screen
3. Once in the BIOS screen, strike the F5 key to reload the BIOS default settings.
4. A message will pop up asking if you wish to SAVE & EXIT BIOS?
5. Respond YES and exit.
The computer should attempt to boot up at this point. Go ahead and open the CD/DVD drive tray and insert
the 1 of system recovery disk and close the drive tray. Immediately force power off on the tower by pushing and
holding the power button. Once power goes off, allow appx 10-20 seconds and power the tower back on. If
reloading the default BIOS settings has corrected the system boot device order, the computer should now boot
immediately from the Optical Drive (CD drive) and begin the system recovery.

Toshiba A500-1H1 after recovery on new hard drive cannot boot

Hi, I had to replace hard drive because old one is broken. I used recovery media I've created after opening laptop first time as you suggested with Toshiba support. Recovery is fine, but during windows configuration I had information about not certified signatures and windows cannot boot. There is error suggesting that maybe hardware was changed. So my question is ? Buying Toshiba laptops I cannot change my harddrive, so if any part of Toshiba is broken I have to buy new notebook ? Or maybe I can access to my Windows764bit key and download from microsoft windows and install and configure this by myself ?

Hi, thanks for your reply - I FOUND A SOLUTION, a quick description about my problems is below. 1. First of all. My Toshiba HDD is broken in that way that it cannot be booted. I did a couple low level tests (one took about 90 hours !!) and surface is free from bad sectors. Disk is in very good condition, but I suppose controller in disk is broken because everything is installed correctly, recovery takes about 20 minutes and after rebooting I have typical information about problem with reading boot information, BCD, 0xC000... And so on. So disk is working now as storage on usb. This disk was 320GB - original from Toshiba. 2. Then I tried use new one disk: Samsung 1TB. And I had this problem with booting again, but info from windows was about not certified drivers (when it tried install WiFi, and other drivers). Then I post this post here, but meanwhile I contact my support in Poland and they suggested me there can be a problem with DISK SIZE - they said this is TOO BIG FOR RECOVERY.. That was very strange for me - I heard first time the problem can be with too much space, not with not enough space Anyway I decided to buy new SSD 250GB (smaller than original Toshiba) hard drive. My recovery took me about 10 minutes. I have SATA3 SSD but Toshiba support SATA1, but anyway my computer seems to work 3x faster than before
So the problem was with original disk, controller (boot sectors maybe), and with too large new disk so Toshiba recovery disk couldn't manage.

System Recovery on New Hard Drive Not Proceeding

Scenario: I've installed a new (blank) hard drive on my 2008 HP Pavilion dv3500. I need to install the factory image on this new drive in the original HP machine.
1. I am booting from the recovery disks I made (F9 from system startup menu)
2. The first disk loads some files after which Recovery Manager opens up.
3. Without giving me any option other than to shut down, the Recovery Manager Wizard tells me:
"Recovery data is missing. Please use recovery media to restore the system."
Well, that's what I'm doing! - so why can't I click next have have the recovery manager install the factory image from the recovery disks I made?
4. Clicking "Finish" on wizard restarts the system
5. hitting ESC goes into Startup Menu again
6. F11 - System Recovery:
"BOOTMGR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
7. I've read all the documentation I can find. Looks like HP strongly prefers the use of the partitioned recovery drive on the original hard drive. Can't seem to find any information on how to recover using the recovery disks without Recovery Manager trying to access the recovery partition on the old drive -- which is not my scenario.
Summary: neither booting from recovery disk nor directly calling "System Recover" with F11 initiate the system recovery process from the recovery disks when a new drive replaced the older, smaller one.
Anyone see a step I'm missing here?

Try booting with a utilty cd to delete any partitions, create 1 partition & format hdd. I have had good results with the free Partition Wizard .Download the Bootable CD iso here .Get ImgBurn here to burn the image to cd.
After all operations are done with PW, boot from the Recovery Disks and try again.

Recovery discs do not work with new hard drive

Hi I have come here desperately seeking help as I am not too knowledgeable with the workings of computers and I have spent an incredible amount of time just trying to get my laptop to some level of functionality. I purchased a HP Envy and it had a corrupt hard drive which would not work from day one, laptop was new. After a year of constant pressure on HP they finally decided to replace it and let me choose any laptop so I went with the Beats Envy 14 as it was the best one offered from the selection. Low and behold the thing would not work properly from day one, again my brother who is much more of an expert said that there was definitely a hard drive issue so for the past 3 years I have put up with a computer that constantly crashes with BSOD, where I have lost data on numerous occasions (only so often I can back up), that I have had to constantly reset the thing using HP recovery discs, and that generally cannot cope when performing multiple tasks. HP are most certainly shocking builds from my experience. Then just last week the hard drive just craps itself and the laptop no longer will boot up. I took it to a guy to get it at leYst working again so he has installed a new hard drive but with an old version of Windows 7. I want to go back to the Windows version I was akin to on the HP recovery disk , and essentially have it all set up as before except for now having a workable hard drive however I get the message: "This computer is not supported by the System Recovery Discs.You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs.Error: 0100 - 3385 - 3078" I also tried out of interest to load my old Windows 7 disc I had and XP but had no success. Tried booting from startup etc and various things suggested on help forums. Please tell me I am not stuck with this version of windows. Whilst the discs included Windows 7 it was a totally different version, this home premium one is terrible. Any help/advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

no they were both 500gb. I read about that already, I heard about creating a partition for recovery etc but this is all a bit above me , as I said I am not very technical when it comes to the working of a computer. These discs worked perfectly before but now with the new hard drive will not load at all. I essentially hate the Windows Home Premium verions the guy who fixed it put on, whilst the discs had Windows 7 on them the icons were way smaller, the desktop neater, the buttons different, everything was a lot more modern and I was used to it. This version looks like something from the 90s, have to constantly adjust size of Mozilla when browsing as it is huge. I have my own version of Windows 7 on another disc but the hard drive will not let it load either........considering waiting for Windows 10 but again unsure if this new hard drive will even let that update Thanks

New Hard drive - won't install windows from recovery disc

I am having an issue with my Satellite L505D-S5965. I replaced the hard drive (upgraded from 250 to 500GB) due to issues with the old one (which had been replaced once already) and am using the recovery disc I made before my other hard drive crashed. When I boot the computer, it says it is loading Windows files, asks for country, etc., but then doesn't display an operating system to choose and asks me to choose drivers. I can't restore it from a system image because I kept getting an error on the old drive when I tried to create one. When I've checked, it says that Windows isn't installed on the computer. I checked the BIOS and it is recognizing the new hard drive. I have also tried booting it up from the DVD/CD using the set of disks I created after I got my new hard drive previously, but it doesn't seem to even recognize them and I can't get to the Toshiba Recovery Wizard. I would order the Toshiba Recovery Media, but with the issues I'm having, I'm not sure that is the fix. I'd hate to be out another $30 on an old computer (since we also had to replace the mother board in the past few months) if I'm not sure that will cure the problem.

New Hard Drive and trying to reinstall OS. Have Hp Recovery Discs but DVD drive broke

Hi to all,
I just put a new hard drive in my HP Dv7. I also ordered recovery discs. When I tried to put the disc in I then found out my DVD drive is not working
My question is can I transfer the recovery disc to a USB flash drive and then boot from there?
I would appreciate any insight!!

You cannot copy from recovery DVD to USB.
What is the problem with the drive, do you have a boot DVD to try?

Installed new hard drive ran hp recovery disc's- get error code

I am reinstalling xp on a new hard drive and I get this message stop: 0x0000007b?
reinstalling xp and I get this message stop: 0x0000007b (oxf9e53524,0xc0000034,0x00000000,0x0000… It is on an hp dv5000 running windows xp professional! I have an old hard drive and it still works but since it says failure is innement I decided to get a new hard drive and when I used the recovery disc's on the new hard drive, i got the message above!
The weird thing is that I can put my old hard drive back into the laptop and it works fine but still about to fail! I also have an xp disc that my friend had so CAN I use it instead and would it fix my problem or not? The disc says this on it!

ok there is only one disc and it is black and white ! Is this an actual windows xp disc that can be used on any hp that has had xp on it or what?
can I just install this cd and start from scratch or is it the same as my recovery discs?

New Hard drive replacement not working with Recovery Disc from old drive.

Had a recent hard drive failure and I my HP Recovery disc that I received last year to to restore after system failure; won't work now on new hard drive. Unable to copy disc from Drive D to Drive C is the error I'm getting during phase 1 of recovery setup. BootMgr is not found error when i startup PC. Unable to recover Windows. My Hard disk and system memory test were failing, now ok after new drive install'; still can't get into Windows though.

Need Win 7 recovery discs for new hard drive

I am not sure which Windows 7 Operating system my laptop had, but I need the recovery discs to put Windows 7 back on my HP dv6-6167cl notebook.
My original issue was that my notebook was unable to restore or anything on its own. After calling HP support and performing a guided diagnostics test, it was determined that my hard drive was bad. I purchased a new hard drive and replaced it, but need to get Windows 7 back on it.

Can I order a recovery disc for my HPG72 259WM and use it on the new hard drive?

My hard drive crashed on my G72 259WM and I did not have a recovery disc. If I order a recovery disc can I load that on my new hard drive to get my computer up and going?

CQ57 Create recovery software from one laptop to fix a second w/ new hard drive

My son's CQ57 will start in Safe Mode only. I ran the setup diagnostics and the hard drive failed. I bought and installed an equivalent size hard drive. The disks that may have come with this laptop are at my exwife's house and she can't find them. I have a similar CQ57 that was my other son's. Can I create the necessary recovery software from mine to get the new hard drive going? It is Windows 7.

Usually Recovery Discs from one machine will not work on another ,unless they are the same model.

Using the disk to disk recovery tool to image a new hard drive

I have a new SSD hard drive that I am installing and want a fresh version on Win 7. I plan on using my existing hard drive just for data and to maintin the recovery partion in case I need it again. I want to do a disk to disk recovery. I get to the point in the Recovery 4.3 software where it prompts me to confirm I will loose all my data on the partition, but I do not see where it allows me to choose the new hard drive. I do not want to loose my data so I exited out. Did I not go far enough into the processs to allow me to choose the hard drive? I have not found a manual for the recovery tool to show me what's next. I have the new hard drive installed in the ultrabay.

Check on your HDD win 7 RNR if you have the Create Product Recovery option. This will back up the Recovery Partition. First disc is bootable recovery, you can use a CD. Second disc is data, try a DVD for this. It may create a 3rd disc.
When you get done, you want a recovery partition on the SDD. The recovery bootable and partition are fairly small.
Thus, when you use these disc to populate the SDD, you have a recovery partition on the SDD.
When I ordered my PC, I ordered 2 HDD's 120GB and 320GB. Windows does not let you select where the operating system goes to. It uses the first HDD it finds (which might be your win 7 Hdd!!). In my case, it came from the factory with (vista) on the 320GB. I had to swap them, similar to what you are doing. I used the Product Recovery disk set AND had to disconnect the 320GB for the recovery to go to the 120GB.
What size is your HDD and SDD? I would take backups of your Win 7 system. Last thing you want is a messed up win 7 HDD. If all works, you will have a bootable HDD and SDD and might have to decide which one to use every time you boot up.
Down the road, when SSD is as you like it, copy the HDD data over to the SDD. Erase the HDD, then copy the HDD data back over. Thus HDD is truly a second hard drive(data drive).
Side note: The placement of the New win 7 is dependent on the Logic of the Recovery partition. I would guess where ever the Q drive is created, that is where the operating system is going to go. Could be Win7 install (standalone win 7 install DVD) logic Now allows you to choose Hard drive 1 or Hard drive 2,
