Recovery discs used. Vista won't install

I have used recovery discs on HP G7035EA. The discs run and I reach stage where Vista is about to start for the first time. Then I get a blue screen with spinning small round icon and "please wait". Very brief window about set up, followed by shut down. I then have to restart.
Then endless loop of "...restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error....install cannot proceed.......click OK....then restart the installation" Clicking OK starts endless return to same error.
I have read huge amounts of forums with many similar issues.
Some suggest  'Flashing' the bios, without actually saying how !
I have downloaded both bios update and a SSM app from this site, and put them on a CD, but they do not run when I start up the laptop. Can anyone please give me an idiots guide to make the bios update.
Other suggestion was to alter the DDR voltage, again without any instructions !
I have done all the system tests on the hard drive and memory all OK, and have wiped the hard disk using KILLDISC and then tried recovery, same result !
Any help would be immensely appreciated.

    I'll start doing my homework.
The obvious: Is vista proving stable on the Mac built in drive?
While some might consider me "lucky," I don't believe i luck. I have had no problems with any of my three Macs which now all run Leopard. My two MBPs were updated, not even an archive and install and they both run fine, as does my old G5.
I installed XP-Pro on my 32-bit MBP when I first got it using BootCamp1.0, beta.
I installed Vista Ult 64-bit on his MBP also under a beta version of BC, 1.2, I believe.
All the Leopards are up to date, as are my Winders OSs. I finished updating this MBP to SP1 this morning. I have never had any problem, issue or anything I would consider serious. I did have the problem some have noted with Leopard, that the WiFI modem would turn off when not used, but that was not a Leopard issue, it was a firmware issue with my Westell modem, which works fine now that I upgraded its firmware.
As of now, I have nothing but praise for both Apple and, yes, Microsoft.
I learned long ago, that when you get down the the processor, it's all the same 1's and 0's
I do research things quite well before actually committing myself, but that should be normal for everyone. Even a daredevil driver or stuntman carefully plans what he does, although it looks as if it's spontaneous.
I use computers for business and pleasure and I need them as tools. I do not fool around with strange software or unplanned updates. So far, that has paid off.

  • Creating recovery disc using DVD vs using USB

I wanted to upgrade to SSD
a crucial m500 to be exact.
    I'm using windows 8
    Lenovo T430
But an attempt to create recovery media, I was told I needed a usb of at least 16gb before continuing.
I personally do not have a spare 16gb thumbdrive lying around
address : create a recovery drive, The screen which says "the drive must be able to hold 16gb, and everything on the drive will be deleted.
and I find it such a waste to use a hard disk to use it as a recovery media considering the fact that all data on it has to be erased and I cant really use it for other purpose
so I  google in attempt to try and create recovery drive using dvd disc
    recdisc.exe
my question is that would I be able to restore the same original settings and applications as when I bought it when using the recdisc.exe method??
will all the default Lenovo applications be still present??

If it's like most of the recent ones I have seen it would normally require 3 regular DVD disks.  Recovery 1, Recovery 2, and Drivers and Applications Disk 2.  If you use Dual Layer it will put Recovery 1 and Recovery 2 on one DL disk and the Drivers and Applications on Disk 2, but it should give you the option of recording it to a standard DVD.  You can determine how many regular disks it would take by selecting the Regular Disk option prior to creating the disks and it shoud tell you 3.
I'm betting that when you check the first disk you will find that it has about 6.5 to 7gb of data on it and the drivers disk has about 3gig, more than what would fit on a single D/L dsk.  I know that my L305-S5933 is like that and I can't imagine that your's would be that much different.
Addendum:  I just checked my 3 disks and they are as follows
    Recovery Disk 1 - 4.3 GB
    Recovery Disk 2 - 2.77 GB
Drivers and Applications Disk 3 - 2.1 GB
That totals 9.17 GB more than the capacity of a single D/L disk.
Plus I believe that Chris hit the nail on the head of their wanting to keep the actual Recovery Disk(s) seperate from the Drivers & Applications disk.

I don't know what to do... Please help!!!!!

Did it say that the Recovery Disk was corrupted or the hard drive?

  • Recovery Discs from HP won't start in my HP Pavilion Dv7

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 that I need to wipe clean due to spyware. I bought the System Recovery DVD's from HP and on them it states "to begin, insert the disc into the optical drive of your computer and follow the on-screen instructions." Unfortunately I insert the disc and I get the info from the disc to come up but no instructions. I have even tried to make the laptop run from the disc drive at start up. when I did that it wanted me to create system recovery discs. I do not need to make them, I have them from HP. Just frustrated on why the disc from HP are not doing as instructed.
Here is a picture of the screen I get when the disc are inserted:
I really do hope someone can help me I have been waiting to do this for weeks since I had to wait for the discs.
    Thank you,

    You're very welcome, KC.
If you can't boot from the DVD, it could indeed be a bad disk.
Also, make sure you have disk 1 in first to boot from.
And yes, you should get a very brief message to hit any key to boot from CD, so watch carefully for it.
If you miss it you have to start all over again and reboot the PC.

  • Vista won't install drivers

I've searched through but maybe this has been answered elsewhere. Anyways I had an iMac intel based from 2008, it broke down recently and since it was under warranty they gave me a new one free. I had bootcamp with vista on it and till the end of it's life it worked well enough for windows. New computer comes (specs are 27 inch imac with the basics seems to be the newest model they have on the store,) well everything backs up fine from time machine, I proceed to partition it and run the vista install. Plugging in the snow leopard disc vista installs the updates then when it reboots it black screens and crashes. So after a few reinstalls and deletions I put in the original disc I got with my original iMac that was the one I used on my original bootcamp. Well the drivers say they install but the computer does not flash or beep and when it restarts there is no sign of the video card taking effect, basically the drivers don't work or they aren't getting installed.

Trouble with Apple's graphic boot camp drivers. It has gotten better with the latest iMacs and latest OS X OEM DVD with newer Boot Camp 3.x drivers than what there was.... I assume it came with new DVD for OS X, right?
I haven't kept up but you do need to uninstall graphic driver and let Windows update/install its own and then you can use ATI Catalyst 10.x
The problems from last fall - and no longer true, but this is how it use to be. THERE ARE POSTS regarding iMac 27" graphic drivers around.
A tip and workaround for how to get ATI mobility/laptop drivers so that Windows no longer thinks the ATI is a desktop card:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11286987
    Summary (my own edit steps):
    1. Install Boot Camp 3.0 and upgrade to 3.1
    2. Uninstall graphic drivers and run Driver Sweeper
    http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
    instead of:
removing the crashing driver by going into windows 7 setup via its install cd and deleting the ati driver manaully
    3. Install ATI Mobility (link)
    4. Uninstall ATI (Programs control panel?) Device Manager (rollback; uninstall?)
    5. Device Nanager: update driver and BROWSE BACK to 8.681 (the original apple driver that was causing freezes and purple artifacts) - navigate to /Apple/Drivers/ATI
(Apple uses) a 4850 card in the iMac, its modified a bit for apple. Enough that desktop drivers don't work, and modded-for-laptop desktop drivers don't work either.
Now the upshot of using modified drivers is that it FORCES the catalyst control panel to be installed, meaning you get a few more options to mess around with the card.
I couldn't use the original apple drive, it locks up, the newer one had banding, the newer radeon drivers direct form ATI wouldn't work until they were modded and then they cause black screens.
SO the solution, as obscure as it was, was to download ACTUAL mobility Radeon drivers - version 10.3 still, but made for laptops.
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
THESE drivers I was able to install - and here is where things changed.
THIS driver changed they way windows saw the video card in device manager.
As I mentioned before, its NOT a desktop card, its a modified laptop card, but installing mac drivers makes windows THINK its a full desktop card, and running the original 8.681 driver crashed it.
Once installed 10.3 LAPTOP driver it now appeared in device manager as a MOBILITY card.
    These Steps "should" work:
    delete ATI driver manually
reinstall apple driver after that and see if that works,
    otherwise try the steps above
(mod drivers, remove via windows recovery off setup disk, install laptop drivers, reinstall apple driver over it)

  • Vista won't install

I am working on a Lenovo 9690 desktop. When I first got it, it would post, begin to load Vista premium (only about a second or 2) then restart. No error messages and could not get to safe mode. I systematically disconnected every component, trying to see if one of them was causing the problem but this did not help. I cleaned and reseated the memory, I even put in different memory... No joy. I tried a new power supply, no joy. I have tried a different DVD drive with new cables and different chanels and even tried a new hard drive but the error continues. I even did a drive wipe writing all zero's to the drive. Interesting but XP will actually reformat the HD but fail immediately after the format, even on a new HD.
The major problem is I can't get Vista come up to do anything from the DVD.Windows Boot Manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the
    cause. To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
    3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer
    manufacturer for assistance.

Thanks for both of your replies.
I booted to kubuntu 8.10 live CD and the desktop came up but froze. I did a memory test from the live cd and it was full of errors. I found out which module was bad and removed it. Vista is installing as we speak.
The only thing I can think of is that the test memory I used before was not compatible with this mobo beause I'm sure I did that test on Friday(2 days ago).
Thanks all for pointing out the obvious. It helps to bounce things off other techs.

  • Vista won't install on a RAID set. ***SOLVED***

I just installed my new MSI 790GX-G65 system and I cannot install Vista (32-bit) on any type of 2 disk RAID set that I have tried to create.  I can get the installer to see the drive(s) by loading the driver, but after partitioning and formatting, I get a message about "windows cannot find a valid drive for install" or something to that effect.  I can install fine using IDE mode and just picking one of the drives.  Any help would be appreciated.

Quote from: FrogmanTM on 09-August-09, 05:39:36
Well, I solved it!  The problem was with the Vista installation process itself.  It turns out that Windows reads information about the boot sequence from the BIOS of the motherboard. It looks at this information to understand what will happen when the system boots for the first time. If you have a USB drive connected to the system and it is listed in the boot config as a bootable device (in my case the BIOS put the USB stick as the second boot device, right after the CD drive, and the RAID volume was listed AFTER the USB stick) - you will probably see this error: "Windows could not determine if this computer contains a valid system volume."
To get past it, I had to re-configure the BIOS Boot options to NOT include my USB drive as a bootable device (or just drop the priority below whatever drive you will be booting from). You can also boot your system without a USB drive installed - not an option for me since I need to install 3rd party raid drivers.
Whew!  Thanx for all your help, I am glad I finally figured it out.
Wow dude you're a genius for two days I've been searching and searching and searching wondering why my vista wont install onto my raid 0.  I have a DFI board with a 760fx chipset, i have done all the bios updates and brand new raid drivers and to no avail.  Found this post and voila.  Thanks a lot.  Such a simple fix usually the last thing you think of or not think of it at all.

  • Upgrading to iTunes9 on Windows Vista won't install

It says we do not have permissions. We uninstalled and tried to reinstall, and keep getting errors that we don't have permissions for Quicktime folders. I tried to delete the Quicktime folder, but it says I don't have permissions for the folders, chiefly the Quicktime\QTSystems folder. I checked the permissions and it won't show or let me change owners. We're using the administrator account.

What's the precise text of the permissions message, Tara? (There's a few different ones I can think of, some of which tend to indicate a disk/file damage issue rather than a permissions problem.)

  • How to use the 5 recovery discs made when new???

I have a Toshiba Satellite L455-S5046.  I purchased this laptop new in a factory sealed box, a little over a year ago.
When I opened it, I made the suggested recovery discs using 5 DVD+RW 4.7GB discs.
Well, now after having issues with installing a windows update and a bluetooth adapter, the laptop just doen't work the same. I get script errors on web pages and have been spending way too much time repairing issues like invalid "not genuine Windows 7" messages.
So, I attempted a recovery using the discs made when new, and the computer tells me the recovery disc is not valid.  What the heck?  I did exactly what the computer suggested on new startup. The discs are not damaged and have been stored in a safe place.
