Recovery Disk wiped out all external HDD data.

On my western digital 1TB HDD, I have created a drive with name I: of size 20GB to take recovery partition. When start with Create Recovery disk and selected drive I:, it creates recovery partition backup however it wiped all other drives data of external
HDD. Now, what should I do to recover?? Can Microsoft help to get my 200 GBs data back due to its big bug??
Thanks & Regards, Ankur Mutha

It tells you that it's going to delete
all the data on that disk, in quite plain terms.
If your data is irreplaceable, chances are most of it is still there.  There are commercial data recovery services that may be able to help you get it back, but they cost a good bit of money.  Search for "disk drive data recovery" with
Google or Bing.
I suggest not trying to access the drive yourself as the more you do with it the more likely the sectors containing deleted data may be overwritten.
Good luck.

  • Rescue and recovery wiped out my external hdd

I have a lenovo thinkpad edge 14 that I got a few months ago. for the last few weeks the thinkvantage toolbox kept telling me I had one 1 issue to solve, and that was to create a system backup. So finally I decided to get it taken care of, so I plugged my external HDD and got it going. After realizing how long it would actually take, I cancelled it midway. I didn't think much of it.
Then today I happened to look at my external hdd and I realized that EVERYTHING I HAD GOT WIPED OUT. I was devastated. Some things on there were priceless to me, photos/videos/memories I wanted to keep with me for the rest of my life. Seriously. It seriously hurts thinking about what I lost. I don't know what happened. I could have been smarter and made more backups to my backup? I guess I'm not technically saavy. I thought my external hdd was safe enough. What the hell?? Just because I tried to follow the Thinkvantage suggestion, RESCUE AND RECOVERY.... I got the exact opposite result.. How the hell was I supposed to know..
I'm trying to see if I can use some software to recover my data, but I haven't had much luck with programs I've used. What can I do? Is there anything that Lenovo can help me with? I feel like I just got screwed over. I wish I had never listened to the Lenovo software. I pretty much wish I had never gotten this laptop. I'm pretty pist off at Lenovo, I don't know if I should be or not, but I don't care, I'm just super upset and disappointed.

I don't blame you for being upset.  That really bites.
It doesn't help you now, but IIRC, if you do a backup to external drive via R&R's advanced menu, there's a "preserve existing data" checkbox.
That "backup right now" nag launches R&R in a mode that first formats the external drive.  Not only does it wipe the drive, it also takes a very long time.
[edit] It's the "create rescue media" part of the R&R process (that puts the bootable R&R on the external HD)  that wipes the drive.  The one-click backup combines that and actually writing the backup in one operation.  Very convenient...
Sorry I don't have a way to retrieve your data.  All I can offer is sympathy - I got burned this way myself.  Fortunately in my case there wasn't much on the external HD.
I have no idea why Lenovo doesn't include a "preserve" option in the one-click backup thing.  It's a serious oversight.
Hopefully your post will save someone else.
    Good luck,
    Z.

  • How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

How to stop mail from recovering the same message over and over again to the extent that it has wiped out all start up disk memory?

You need to find and delete (move to the Trash) the offline mail cache (.offline cache.) It's a hidden folder (files and folders with a preceding dot are hidden) inside the Mail folder (inside IMAP) in your user library. Since it's hidden, in order to see it run the following command in Terminal in Applications>Utilities. Hit return/enter once you have pasted in the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true ; killall Finder
To reverse this and hide all those hidden files and folders again
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false ; killall Finder
Leave hidden files/folders enabled until you finish emptying the Trash so you know it's gone.

  • Itunes wiped out all data now ipod is corrupt

I bought my 80g ipod classic in March,08 and have never had problems until two months ago. Several times after disconnecting, I found that itunes wiped out all the songs and video. The first time, I lost over 8000 songs and never realized it until I was in the car on a long road trip. My playlists were gone, 14 movies and many video clips. My pictures and games remained however. Problems continued periodically. Sometimes it would eject immediately after connecting. Then it would connect, but not sync anything. Now itunes will recognize it, but says it needs to be formatted then restored. I didn't want to lose everything, but now it has wiped out games and pics also. It is like I just bought it. I have updated itunes to 8.0 and tried to update my ipod as well. Now it is telling me that it can't be restored and that my ipod is corrupt. This is my second ipod, the first was a 20g with pics and I used and abused it to death and NEVER had a single problem until it just quit working. I have my computer set to update automatically for itunes and this all started right after it completed an update of some kind. I have a 2 year warranty, should I relace it? Also, will I lose all the games I bought?

I just upgraded my itunes and now my IPOD won't play any of my songs. Everything is still ther, will let me navigate etc, but just won't play!
    Very dissapointed!
Worst, i can't get my music off my IPOD now, because ITUNES doesn't allow it. And worst still, when i take it in to get a replacement, they simpy take my IPOD and away and give me a new one.
    I'm seriously put off!

  • My PC recently crashed and wiped out all my info including my music..

My PC recently crashed and wiped out all my info including my music, i still have it all on my ipod. is there anyway possible i can restore the songs on my ipod back into my computer eventhough my itunes library is empty? i read something about turning my ipod into a disk drive.. someone please help me!!

DO NOT attach & sync your full iPod to an empty iTunes!!!
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

  • How to use recovery disks to get rid of hdd password?

I got this compute and it's asking me to put in the built in HDD password, which I do not have so I purchased the recovery disks. I did what it said but didn't do anything? Help me please!

    Hello
The recovery disk will not delete the HDD password. Recovery disk will just reinstall Windows with all drivers and tools (factory settings) but not delete any HDD or BIOS password. Of course the Windows password will be deleted due recovery installation but thats all.
    You should check this article:

  • I updated my software on my ipad, and it wiped out all my calendar entries.  Is there a way to retrieve them?  My planner is my life and I am feeling totally lost!!!!!

Please Help!!  When I updated my Ipad2 it wiped out all of my calendar entries.  Is there a way to retrieve them?  I have looked in Icloud and itunes and am not finding the calendar there, as it comes on the ipad and is not an app.

Were you syncing calendar events over the air with your iCloud account or syncing calendar events direct with a supported calendar app on your computer via the iTunes sync process?
If your planner is your life, not a good idea to depend on one device for your calendar events. They should be available on your computer as well along with the data included with your computer's backup.

  • Hotsync wiped out all my tasks in outlook, PLEASE HELP

I run my business off of all my tasks (microsoft outlook) and I had over 500.
I had a palm 680, and it broke so I bought a new palm TX.
Before I hotsynced, I switched hotsynx preferences to handheld wins.  So it wiped out all my tasks.
I have not hotsynced since, is there any way to recover them?
    Thanks so much in advance!
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Since you was syncing to Outlook I don't believe there is any backup system like there is within palm desktop. Unfortunately your data is probably gone. If it is really sensitive data you may want to contact Microsoft and see if they have a means of recovering it.

  • I had pictures and videos on my I phone 4 s which I wanted to put onto my laptop, and I dunno what I pressed on I tunes it totally wiped out all my stuff. How can I get them back??? Help???

I had pictures and videos on my I phone 4s which I tried to put onto my laptop and I don't know what I pressed on I tunes it just completely wiped out all my data, how can I get all that back I've been told e everything is still in the phones hardware does anyone know how I can get it back??? Need help please???

Do you see them on the phone? If not, they are NOT "still in the phones hardware".
It's hard to suggest a course of action when we don't know what you did and you are unable to tell us.
If they are not on your computer, and they are not on the phone, I don't know what else to suggest...
Were you using iCloud? Did you have photo stream enabled? If you did, they would have been uploaded to iCloud. If you did not, then they are gone.

  • Firefox update wiped out all my preferances!

I'm getting rather fed up with Mozilla Firefox. First of all the UPDATE nag cannot be disabled despite the fact that I chose the setting "Never check for updates." Firefox ignores that preference and reverts to either automatic, or "Check and let me choose." THAT started the whole mess. Listen please FIREFOX developers: I DO NOT want you to control my updates. Too many times in the past, you have more or less forced an update on me only to result in my having to reset EVERY preference and add-on I had previously installed. When I complained about this inability of Firefox to remember my update preferences, I was informed that I absolutely had to update to 20.0.1 because 19.0.1 had "security holes". You know what, at this point I DON'T CARE, especially if I have to go through all this crap simply to have a decent browser. Nonetheless I bit the bullet and updated. Right out of the gate, the WELCOME page hijacked Google as my homepage and didn't go away. I reset everything back to Google and then the browser opened Google alright, but was immediately re-directed to the damned WELCOME page...every time I started the browser. I tried everything I could but nothing worked. The next step was to RESET Firefox. Well, it reset. Boy did it reset. I am now faced with reinstalling EVERYTHING including ALL my add-ons, extensions...EVERYTHING. I am really annoyed at the arrogance of Mozilla, assuming that THEY know what's best for my machine and my preferences. I really hope you fix this Mozilla. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is getting weary of having to re-do everything each time an update comes along...which, BTW is altogether too frequent.

This problem has persisted for me for several months. My recollection is that there once were actually one or two additional unique posts on this update wipe out effect. This is my first time using the new Firefox update stub. Maybe this has something to do with it? In any case, despite configuring Firefox to NOT update me automatically AND not in the background, the update occurred oddly. As contributor tdp2101 has said, the effects can be inconsistent. In my case, a manual update over the last several months has occasionally been successful, that is, without the wipe out, complete or partial. Somewhere in my current process I a) told Firefox to not update, b) was presented with a page that my version was out of date. I do not remember the exact sequence. There finally came a moment, however, when the stub for v22 seemed to not execute two times in a row. Specifically, clicking on the downloaded stub icon resulted in nothing happening on screen, twice. System did not freeze. Just nothing seemed to happen. I immediately, cold booted my machine, opened my extant Firefox to download the stub yet again but never got the chance. Firefox autoupdated, wiped out ALL preferences, presented the Google home screen. I reset all my preferences including Never Update, Never Check, and, this time, Require me to okay cookies. Then I sought whatever updated solutions Mozilla might have offered. Finding none, I wrote this post. In the past, I have implemented all the Profile changes, duplications, substitutions, and edit solutions that I guess have disappeared or aged out of this support archive. Yet the problem continues. I am Win7 x64. Thanks for any help.

  • How can I take out all my HealthVault data?

As titled, how can I take out all my HealthVault data?

    Hi,
I'm assuming by "take out" you mean you want to save copies of your data to keep outside of HealthVault.
In general, you want to use the Export feature. Find it by going to the Health Information page, then in the "More actions" menu, choose "Export information." If you're trying to send the data to another system, then you'll probably want to choose CCD or
CCR format. If you are keeping records for yourself, HTML would be the human-readable format. The different formats behave differently, so I'd recommend checking that the exported file contains the data you want.
After you export, then you'll want to go into the Files section of the Health Information page and download the files you want to keep. This will be especially important for files that came from a doctor, hospital, pharmacy, or lab.
If you want to close your HealthVault account, make sure you've got all the data you want before you close the account. By the way, if by "take out" the data you meant "delete" the data, when you close your account the data will be deleted from HealthVault
    as per the Privacy Statement.
    Hope this helps,
    Kathy

  • Time Machine wiped out all my backups!

This morning, Time Machine wiped out all my existing Time Machine backups and started a new, full backup of my startup drive.. My Time Machine volume was only half full, and I use TimeMachineEditor to schedule backups once a day instead of every hour. Does anyone know what might have caused this to happen?

Not helpful. I've been using TimeMachineEditor for years without any problem whatsoever.
It's true, though... it sounds like something went wrong with Time Machine somewhere, and that's one possibility. Having used it for years without a problem does not mean that trend will continue. There was just an update to that software one week ago, adding Mountain Lion compatibility. Something could have been wrong with the update if you installed it, and if you didn't, you were using it with Mountain Lion without it being compatible.
As for Time Machine's default hourly backups, they can result in spinning beachballs each and every hour
Something else may have been wrong then (instead or in addition). That's not normal.
In any event, there's nothing to be done about the old backups now... they're gone. What I would advise is to stop using TimeMachineEditor (for the time being at least), erase your backup drive and start your backups over from scratch, and make sure that your drive is used in one of the supported configurations (ie, directly connected, connected to a Time Capsule or a shared volume on another Mac on your local network).
