Make Your Own Yosemite Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
   2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
Click on the Erase button.
Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy and paste the following command line in its entirety into the Terminal window.
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite\ Developer\ Preview.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Yosemite\ Developer\ Preview.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN, enter admin password (will not echo to the window) then press RETURN again.
You need to have the installer in your Applications folder or change the paths in the above command line.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

  • Why can't I use my backup disk with Yosemite?

Why can't I use my backup disk with Yosemite? It does not seem to recognize my back up disk. What do I do? I don't want to lose my backup by removing the disk.
I can't find anyone else with the same problem.

Hi, the phone was unlocked in UK and I have a UK PAYG sim but I am unable to change to an egyptian provider, this is my problem.

  • Format external HD as Recovery Disk with CCC

Mac OS Yosemite; 2014 iMac 8Mb Ram
I am trying to make a bootable (recovery HD) copy of the system (Carbon Copy Cloner) on my external hard disk, but CCC tells me that the disk needs to be GPT formatted (GUID) to do this
I have done a little research and it all indicated that  the Mac's Disk Utility has an option to partition the disk
i.e. [First Aid][Erase][Partition[RAID][Restore].  I have four of the options showing but not the [Partition] option.
How do I erase and format this external disk (Lacie Porsche Design 1Tb) to use it as a bootable recovery disk as well as for general backup?  It is currently purely backup (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)).
    Cheers
    Dave

I'm not sure what you need to accomplish. Are you trying to make a bootable installer on a flash drive; clone your hard drive to an external drive; put a copy of the Recovery HD on a flash drive; or create a Recovery HD on a boot disk that does not have one?
If you want to create a Recovery HD on a flash drive for emergencies then you can do so using OS X Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0.
If you wish to install a Recovery HD on a bootable disk that does not have one, then use Recovery Partition Creator 3.8 – Updated for Mavericks | Musings.
If you want to clone your hard drive to an external drive:
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
        4.  And, if you want to make a bootable flash drive installer:
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive. Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

  • Can you make a recovery disk with a mac?

I have two mac computers. One works that I currently use for personal use. But I recentlly bought a "fixer up iBook G4" that needs an install disk of 10.5 Leopard. I cannot find my disks that came with my Powerbook g4 but can I make a restore disk or recovery disk so I can restore the operating system that's on the iBook g4?
    Thanks in advance!

Connect the two computers using a FireWire cable. Use Target Disk Mode to clone the one drive to the other. Boot the iBook into TDM, then boot the PB normally. The iBook's drive should appear on the PB's Desktop. Use Disk Utility to erase the iBook's hard drive, then use Restore to clone the PB's drive to the iBook:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination
          entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • Recovery disk with new hard drive

but hp is telling me that if i don't buy a hp hard drive the recovery disk won't work is that true?
this is the pc that i have, and i can' afford the hp one

    backdrop001,
You can install the new HD, and run the recovery from the disks. That creates a new, out of the box experience. It does not have access to a Recovery partition (that was on the old drive). Don't ask, it can not be done. (Copy the partition).
The clone process creates a full working drive with all your programs and data intact.
The old drive can be cloned onto the new drive. I did it with a Seagate 250GB to a Seagate 1T without ANY problem.
The Seagate Disk Wizard has an intensive manual and instruction file.

  • How to use recovery disk with external ODD?

    Hello,
I need to recover my Toshiba laptop using original Toshiba recovery dvd, but my internal dvd ram doesn't work, so how I set my pc to look for external dvd ram when the windows is starting? I followed the instructions and hold the C button when started computer, but when I press F12 doesn't matter which drive for boot I select, my pc just starts windows...
Thanks for your help. J. Hlavsa

    Hello
What notebook model you have exactly?
Normally you can restore the factory settings from Toshiba recovery disk or if you use the HDD recovery option. To use the HDD recovery option you have to go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select Repair My Computer and follow the screen instructions.
If you can boot from external CD/DVD drive is depending on your notebook model that you have. Normally you can find more information in user manual about this.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 2CW. I bought it with Software Windows XP (included in a CD), which worked perfectly for years. I have reinstalled it several times during this years, but now the CD has deteriorated and it doesn't work anymore.
Originally the machine had WIndows Vista installed with DVD recovery creation option and a HDD recovery option, but I think this is not possible for Windows XP.
Do I have any options?Where could I buy the original Windows XP CD?
    Thank you

    Hi
You can try to order it on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
Other way you can install own WXP version. All WXP drivers, tools ad utilities can be downloaded from Toshiba download page http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

  • I have no bootmgr and no recovery disk with me !!!

The subject says it all, i need help...thanks Keith

Have you run a disk diagnostic from within the BIOS?
Identify your notebook with the p/n (remove the battery and look in the compartment) and the installed operating system.

  • I am searching for a way to delete windows xp from my 2010 imac running yosemite 10.10.2

I am looking for a way to delete the windows xp, installed with bootcamp, from my 2010 intel Imac

All Boot Camp Assistant utilities only can remove the disk partition. That is unrelated to the version of Windows installed. However, if you have partitioned the drive using Disk Utility, then you may have a problem requiring the repartitioning of the entire drive back to a single volume. This will remove all the data on the drive.

  • My mid 2010 iMac is running very slow.

I have done all the usual things such as checking the disk is clean, closing unnecessary programmes etc.  I would rather not replace what seems to be a good machine.  Any ideas?  Below is an etrecheck report on the machine:
    Problem description:
I have 21.5 inch mid 2010 iMac running Yosemite.  Its very slow, programmes keep crashing etc.  Could you recommend any fixes rather than me having to buy a new one?  The HD is less than half full.

  • Recovery disk of 10.8.2

How can you make a recovery disk with OS X 10.8.2?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
By default, your iMac has got a recovery partition, so you can access to it pressing Command and R keys while your Mac is starting. Also, if you have a Mid 2010 iMac, you have Internet Recovery to access to Recovery downloading it from Apple, pressing Command, Option and R keys while your Mac is starting.
If you want to make a Recovery HD copy onto an external drive, use Recovery Disk Assistant > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848

  • How to Continue Creating Recovery Disks after Updating Window 8.0 to 8.1

My laptop is hp 2000-2d62nr notebook pc (energy star) S/N: 5CG342027W
I might mess up the HP Recover Manager as follow:
I was attempting to create the recovery disks for the HP Window 8.0 laptop. HP Recovery Manager needed 5 disks. After 2 disks made done, I left my laptop for two hours. Then I returned to my laptop and saw Window to ask me to update Window 8.1.  And I updated it to Window 8.1.
After Window 8.1 update done, the system had been restarted. When returning to HP Recovery manager, it asked me to continue the third recovery disks. I selected "Continue". However, Disk 3 verified failed at 15%, the pop up window asked me to use another disk and try again. I attempted second times by restart my laptop. again, Disk 3 verified failed at 2%,
How do I clean this mess and make a 2nd set of recovery disks?
    Thank you for your suggestions.
    Best Regards,
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I called the above phone number. Tech Support told me to charge $40.00 for recovery disks. I complained this and they transfered me to 877-917-4380 to talk with Case Manager. He agreed sending the recovery disks with no charge

  • Recovery disk assistant

I'm making a recovery thumb drive with Recovery Disk Assistant and have a couple of questions.
    1. I have a mac running Mavericks and another running Mountain Lion.   Can I use the same recovery disk with both?   Should I create separate partitions on the USB and run recovery disk assistant on each mac in turn creating a separate recovery disk in each partition?
    2. I've tried it out and testing is a bit of a mystery.   When you boot up with Command-R how do you know you have then booted with the USB recovery disk and not the internal recovery on the Macintosh HD ?
    Thanks

    1. No. A Mountain Lion Recovery HD and a Mavericks one are different. You will need one for each
    2. You boot from a Recovery USB disk using OPTION, not COMMAND-R:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
