I had to put a new hard drive in my ph pavilion dv900, need revery disk to get OS back up and running . They are not available from HP.com. need help!

Post the P/N (section 2) and full Model number(section 1) as listed on the Service Tag attached to bottom of laptop.

As a rule of thumb for HDV editing, use those numbers:
12 to 15 meg/second for capturing ( your project is 150 minutes long, so 780 meg/minute, or 117 to 125 Gig).
If you do any editing, add transition, video effect, add 12 to 15 meg /second to the total.
As your project will have to be rendered for the print to tape operation, calculate 12 to 15 meg/second for all the length of your final movie. Add this amount to the total. (example: a 60 minutes movie : 49 Gig).
If you want to burn a DVD on your Mac, calculate 3 to 4 meg/second for downconversion to DV material if you check "self-contained" in quicktime export dialog. (example: your finished project is 60 minutes long : 10.8 Gig)
iDVD itself needs 3 to 4 times this amount if you want flawless operation.
Finally, if you use your internal hard disk for all this storage (it's not a good idea to capture on the same drive where Mac OS X belongs), your Mac OS needs some spare room to breath (doing caching, etc), and your hard drive must have a least 25% of free space to avoid file's fragmentation.
As hard drive's price drop, get the maximum size you can afford. 250 Gig is a good choice if you want to do just one project of 90 to 150 minutes at the time.

But how do you install the drivers if Bootcamp is running interference?
Bottom line, I'ev tried to install three different versions of updated ATI driver sover the last few momnths and on each and every occassion have ended up with the original Bootcamp driver. A number of current games are unplayable on a Mac running Bootcamp as a result.
And if I can't run the software I want, then Bootcamp is as useless as boobs on a bull.

Hi, I asked before about getting a set of recovery disks for my HP Pavilion a6863w. It was answered and a link was provided on where to get the recovery disks. However, I was wondering if there was an upgrade set of those recovery disks that had windows 7 or even windows 8 for that matter. I don't know if thats possible but I would rather have windows 7 atlkeast since hp is outdated and my HP has Vista but Vista is the next on the chopping block to be un-supported and eventually discontinued. Any and all help and suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Sorry, you cannot obtain an HP Win 7 Recovery disc set for your PC because it shipped with Vista as the factory installed operating system.
Win Vista is in extended support until April, 2017. Win 7 is covered until January, 2020.
You would have to purchase a Win 7 OEM setup disc from an online vendor.

Recovery to Windows Vista problem for my Satellite A200-10X

My computer was working OK. To speed it up, I decided to reformat the hard disk using the recovery DVD provided by Toshiba. The recovery failed. I have tried many many ways but keep having the same problem i.e. the process goes into a loop.
What happens can be summarized as follows: When I power-on the computer using the recovery DVD in disk drive, the computer goes into loading the windows files and then formats the hard disk, but stops about 18% through the progress. Everytime this happens the problem starts at (X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe) where it is at ImageX Tools for Windows; and mentions that C:Program Files\Toshiba\HD2Go\sea160s_HD.wmv........WimCopyF ileEx failed. Other errors are: Error restoring image; The Drive is not ready; and ERROR: ImageX could not apply VISTA E:\05006XSP.swm Index 2 from ODD to C:\!; press any Key......And the screen goes white. There is another screen window when ithis happens, which says Administrator: X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe open in DOS. After closing this window the Screen goes blank and the computer for while and then opens in a window called Windows Boot Manager, and says that windows failed to start, winload could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
If I try booting from the recovery HDD, there is no success. I tried powering the computer while pressing C, or pressing 0(zero) or F8, but no success. I can not go to the page where I can repair the HDD as mentioned in the users manual.
I even tried loading an old version of XP, which got loaded but would not recognize the USBs, or sounds, or DVD drive, etc.
Please help.

Can you try a Windows XP installation disk with SP2? I think its normal after using a Microsoft installation disk and the sound will not be recognized because you need all drivers from the Toshiba website.
What you can also do is to use Microsoft installation disk, format the HDD and then use the recovery disk.
In my opinion this could be caused of a faulty recovery DVD or a faulty HDD/RAM. The hardware you can test with the Drive Fitness Test and Memtest86 (use Google for download links, all its freeware).

Hi, Please I need your help, I have a Satellite L500, When I bought it came with VIsta, and complimentary update to Wiindows 7, after they release to the market. I had to reinstall my system with the recovery disk I had created, but I discover that Vista is working, and I can not find the way to update again to Windows 7. Do you know how to solve the problem.

I need a new hard drive and Im buying a new one this week. I dont have a vistA disk bcoz my LAPTOP had VistA oN it wHEN i first got it. when I run the OUT OF THE BOX using the RECOVERY DISK on my new hard drive will it also INSTALL my ORIGINAL OS (VISTA)

The iPad is a tablet. Not a phone. It cannot make a "direct" call as it is not equipped to do that.

Disk Utility - repeated need for minor header volume repair...

Three times in the last week and a half, Disk Utility has reported "Volume header needs minor repair". Each time, I've dutifully started up from my Tiger install CD, and successfully repaired the problem. On at least one of the three occasions, I also ran Disk Warrior and rebuilt the disk directory. Today, the same volume header problem is being reported again.
I've had similar minor disk problems in past, but the repairs always 'stuck' for some while. I'm thinking it's time for an archive and install (at least), but I'm wondering if others have run into the same problem and found alternate remedies.
I routinely run Onyx for maintenance and cleaning, by the way.
Is there anything else I might try before the archive and install? And/or is a complete reformat in order instead?
Data is backed up as of yesterday.

When running Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from your Tiger install disc, is anything reported as being successfully repaired?
If I recall correctly, yes... the specific volume header.
I typically re-verify when I boot back to my startup drive, and initially get passing verifications... then (only recently) within days (sometimes hours) the header problem is reported again.
I don't normally check in with Disk Utility more than (about) once a week... but since the problem has recurred, I am of course checking more often.
I have never had this recurring problem before. Reports from Disk Utility have been almost always 'in the green' - i.e. successful verification.

The reovery disk #1 starts, loads files, cursor comes up and that is as far as it goes. I even let it go for the whole day and nothing, it just stays at the cursor. I need help.

It sounds like there may be a hardware failure with your laptop. You may want to seek servicing.

Tecra M2 - VAP for Vista needed

I upgraded my old M2 to run Vista Business/Ultimate.
Any compatible Toshiba VAP I can use ?
I am having a slow performance presumably due to the processor clock being run at 600MHz, which is way below the M735 spec, i.e. 1.7GHz.
I am trying to see if a compatible VAP can resolve the problem.
My M2 bios has already been flashed to the latest 1.6 version and with 2G RAM installed.

Hi Steven,
The VAP is not related to the notebook model. You can download newest VAP from every computer model, e. g. Tecra M11 or even Satellite or Qosmio Series. Its always the same :)
Have you noticed the same behavior with CPU speed on preinstalled XP from Toshiba?
Dont forget even the CPU would run on highest speed, Vista is much slower than XP. So if you dont need Vista I would downgrade to XP, its much faster. :)
