Recovery from a corrupted par file

The "com.sap.portal.layouts.default" par file in our EP6 SP9 development environment has become corrupted.  This renders many of our admin tools useless, including par file deployment.
Is there an easy way (or any way!) to retrieve this par file from a working portal environment and overlay it in the corrupted environment, maybe through a file transfer, without using the portal System Administration tools?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Manny

Raj,
Thanks for the quick response.  Unfortunately, it did not work.  Even more unfortunately, I am not the actual system administrator, so I don't have the operating system access to the file system (although I do have admin access via the portal).  Therefore, I'm not positive that the person who tried to implement your suggestion did it right.
I downloaded the good version of the par file from a working portal environment and emailed it to our administrator.  He took it and placed it in the directory that you mentioned, and restarted the server.  Is it possible that something got lost in the translation from the par file getting downloaded, emailed, and detached?
Anyway, the portal is not completely down.  I am actually able to go to Content Administration (which I could do before your suggestion as well).  When I open a page in the page editor that contains one of the default layout, and go to Page Layout, I get this message:
Error in Layout Jsp component (pageId or jspName not available)
Anyway, I may have our administrator try it again.  Our other option at this point is to perform a database & filesystem restore.
Thanks,
Manny

  • Problem in JNDI Lookup of Deployable Proxy from the logon par file

    Hi,
    I have customized the Logon par file and have a functionality to call a webservice when the Password Reset happens.
    <b>from the ResetPassword.jsp , SAPMLogonLogic.java is getting called ,and  there is a method called performResetPassword().</b>
    I am calling a Deployable Proxy in that method by using the below code,
    <b>Gateway objGateway=(SMSGateway)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/MailProxy");
    MailGatewayViDocument objSMSGatewayViDocument=(MailGatewayViDocument )objGateway.getLogicalPort("wsPort_Document",MailGatewayViDocument.class);
    objMailGatewayViDocument.sendMail(...);</b>
    I am getting the Exception,
    <b>com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Path to object does not exist at java:comp, the whole lookup name is java:comp/env/MailProxy.</b>
    I have deployed the Deployable Proxy in the J2EE Engine and add this API Jar as the External Library (Project >Properties>Java Build Path ---> Add External jars...Added the .jar file generated in the Proxy Project).
    <b>Please let me know the possible solutions where i can call a deployable proxy inside the logon par file</b>.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Sekar

    Hi,
    I have fixed this error by changing the lookup as follows.
    InitialContext ctx=new InitialContext();
    Gateway objGateway=(Gateway)ctx.lookup("wsclients/proxies/sap.com/GatewayProxy/com.ms.sap..GatewayProxy");
    Just open Visual Administrator and look for the path under wsclients for proper naming.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Photoshop file laid over a .mov from LiveType corrupts project files

    I have an edited sequence in FCE 3.0 At the beginning in V1 is a 7 second .mov title created in LiveType: the usual thing - squiggling text appears over an animated background using the Texture > Liquid > Silver. In V2, and overlapping the .mov is a Photoshop file (.PSD). It has one layer which has an image occupying half of the layer which is otherwise transparent. (By "overlapping" I mean that when the Playhead is over the .mov it is also over the Photoshop file). The Photoshop file is shorter than the .mov and its right hand end is aligned with the right hand end of the .mov. The Sequence in the Timeline is of course rendered. The result is that the title appears and then the Photoshop image overlays it. Fine, it works.
    However, if I save the Project file, quit FCE then relaunch it and load in the Project file, I get "Unable to Open Project File". Exactly the same occurs with another (different) Project file which also has a (different) LiveType title overlaid with a (different) single layer PSD file with a transparent background. I have no other Project files with a PSD overlay. The problem occurs only when I include the PSD file in V2, even without the .mov file.
    The LiveType .mov and the PSD file was dragged from its Mac folder on to the Browser then dragged from the Browser to the Timeline. The PSD file appears in the Browser as a Sequence. I deleted FCE's Pref. files, uninstalled and re-installed FCE, Repaired Permissions, rebooted - no help. Other Project files are OK.
    I have read www.fcpbook.com/Photoshop6.html Part 3 mentions the use of overlaid PSD files with transparency, and mentions creating a new Channel and converting to a PICT, but unlike the graphic in the site page, my Photoshop (version 7) does not offer the choice of a PICT - just PSD or RAW - so no help there.
    It seems clear that the PSD file is the problem. Can't FCE handle them as overlays? Any ideas please on how to get the effect that I want?

  • How to recover from a corrupted VHD file?

    There is a tool that can recover logical problems in the VHD structure?
    A friend called me and told me that his VS R2 Enterprise with 4 VMs suffered a power falure and after that, one of the VMs does not startup anymore. The erros is the same as using VHDMOUNT, something similar: "VHD file could not be mounted"
    There is a CHKDSK for VHD files?
    How to "rebuild" a corrupetd VHD file? How to analyze logical structure of a offline VHD file?

    I also would like to suggest another application which I have used recently for doing VHD recovery. Last, I lost almost everything on my lappy due to hard drive crash
    issue. I backup my data in .vhd file but due to somehow the backup file unable to show me any data. Finally, I tried Hyper-V data recovery tool that had been recommended by my friend. The tool have easy-to-operate GUI techniques so that even a novice use can
    also run this application for repairing VHD file corruption or data inaccessible problem without any hassle. It also recovered those files which I had deleted earlier.
    I got this superb tool over here:

    Hi All,
    By mistake i delete database from sql server. Due to which the the mdf and ldf file of the datbase are removed from my system. Then i used file recover utility and retrived my mdf and ldf files.But now i am not able to attach those files into databse. These
    mdf and ldf files has been corrupted. Now how can i recover my data from those mdf and ldf files.Please answer me if you have any solution on this problem.

    Seems to be duplicate thread -

    There are very less options . You can contact some third party companies who does these kind of corruption stuffs, but not sure whether it will be successfull.
    You can also try this but not sure how far it will work out.
    Create a new database with the same name, physical file name etc.
    Offline the new database.
    Replace database files with the copy of .mdf and .ldf files that you already have.
    Try to bring the database online.
    If it goes into suspect, put it into emergency mode and run DBCC Checkdb. and try.
    This is explained in the blog -

  • Recovery from crashed drive - PSe3 files with tag info?

    Hi,
    I've had a crashed hard drive which I cannot now boot from. So without being able to reboot, I can't start PSE3 and view the photos and the tags in the organiser.
    I do have one back up but it was done some time ago and, since then, I've added quite a few more pix. (Clearly I need to back up more frequently, but that's for the future. At the moment, I'd just like to get back any of the tags so painstakingly put in over the last couple of months.)
    I can view the partition that carried the OS (WinXP sp 2) and would like, if possible, to salvage the tag files from the PSe3 installation. (The photos themselves I've been able to copy out of the damaged hard drive.)
    - Can anyone direct me to the folder or file in the original PSE3 installation that would contain the tag information for the photos logged in the Organiser?
    - Also, is it as simple as reinstalling the programme and then copying this file/folder into the new root folder to 'get back' all the tag info?
    Any help (or alternative suggestions) would be welcome.

    >- Can anyone direct me to the folder or file in the original PSE3 installation that would contain the tag information for the photos logged in the Organiser?
    XP -- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalogs
    The catalog file itself is a .psa file.
    The default catalog name is My Catalog.psa
    Also look at
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalog Folders
    Under that structure there will be a subfolder with the name of your catalog (the default being "My Catalog" without the quotes). It contains those thumbnails that you see in the Photo Well of the PSE Organizer plus other control files.
    Note that you must set the "Folder Options" to view Hidden Files in order to see these folder structures: this can be done either from Control Panel or from the Tools menu of Windows Explorer.
    >- Also, is it as simple as reinstalling the programme and then copying this file/folder into the new root folder to 'get back' all the tag info?
    Probably yes. People have done this over the years since PS Elements version 3 was released.
    1 -- I woud first try copying over the .psa file AND its associated folder under "Catalog Folders".
    2 -- Copying over the Catalog Folders subfoder does have more risk of failing because of configuration differences. So if number 1 does not work, then I would delete the folder under Catalog Folders on your new drive - then try again with just the copied over .psa file placed in that Catalogs folder. Wtih this approach you will have the tags but you will need to recreate the thumbnails displayed in the Photowell of the PSE Organzer.
    Note that having correct pointers to the photos from the Catalog does depend on having the same Windows drive letter assigned to the disk containing the photo files: if you only have a C drive then that should be OK (otherwise you do need to verify drive letter assignments).

  • Lightroom 5 is crashing my Mac, can it be from a corrupt catalog file?

    Lightroom 5 is crashing my Mac approximately 2 minutes after the application is open.  I usually freezes after the 4th or 5th click in trying to edit a photo.  I've tried different photos in different folders, and I get the same results.
    To try to remedy this, I had the stand alone LR5 app., and removed it from my iMac.  I installed Creative Cloud, and downloaded LR5 again.  Opened the application (it seemed to remember all my settings, so I'm assuming it found and used the same catalog file as before) and it crashed my computer again in the same way.
    IS THERE A WAY TO REPAIR THE CATALOG FILE??  I am dead in the water until I can fix this, or find a work around so I can finish the edits on this wedding!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    I've taken my computer to the Genius Bar, to check the computer, and it turns out it was a failing hard drive...  Once I'm back up and running with the new drive, and restore from my back up, I will try this again.  If it still happens with current catalog file, I will try with a new catalog file.  Thank you.

  • Currently using Outlook 2010. It started acting up today. If I purchase 2013, will it solve my problem, or could the problem be coming from a corrupt PST file?

    I use outlook 2010. It has been working perfectly. Today I got an error message that I never "caught" quickly enough. Something about a fax ad on not working properly and I should contact the ad on people. Ever since then, my outlook is not working
    properly. When I create an e-mail a box appears, similar to a text box but with nothing inside. I cant type in the box, and can therefore not send out e-mails. Will buying 2013 outlook solve my issue?

    Hi there
    I’m sorry to hear that you have been unable to access your voicemail!
    It seems like due to the SIM switch, the voicemail service has temporarily been put into an inactive state. When swapping between devices, this will occur and requires re-setting up the voicemail service. Your unheard and saved messages would not be affected. Are you currently still in the Hong Kong area?
    Thanks,

  • Pdf image recovery from corrupt pdf files

         the pdf file in which i kept my pictures gt corrupt. i used image extractor tools but for nothing. please help me. i am clueless what to do?

    How silly was I as I had been using PDF files since the day I learned to operate the computer system and didn’t know anything about them. Then one day I realized that why don’t I learn something about PDF to become a mater in it.
    As we know in these days, PDF files are most commonly used by worldwide. Belong to any part of the society, we as an individual or an organization use PDF files. Therefore it has become very essential element in computer service.
                                      “Generally a PDF or Portable Document Format file is a self-contained cross-platform document which appears same as in the form of soft copy or hard copy. PDF files are used by all of us as they contain the complete formatting of the original document, including fonts and images, PDF files are highly compressed, allowing complex information to be downloaded efficiently.”
    PDF is very popular due to its easiest form of transferring the files over and through the internet as it maintains the original formatting and secures the documents so nicely that other files’ formats don’t.
    Any PDF file contains text or images and sometimes both i.e. text and images. It can be used for office presentation, school assignment or personal collection. But sometimes we don’t need the text part which is inside our PDF file. Occasionally, we need only the pictures from our PDF files. That time we usually do this: copy the images or pictures from the PDF files and then paste them in other new PDF file. That process of copy and paste takes a long time and makes us tired. So that time we need an application which can easily extract all the images and pictures from our PDF files in very short point of time.
    But just think about this: How can you extract images and pictures from a PDF file which is corrupted. Because there is not any software application which can extract the images and pictures from a corrupt PDF file. Did I say no?
    Actually there is a tool which can easily extract the images and pictures from not only a normal PDF file but also from a corrupt PDF file. With the help of this tool anyone can easily extract the images and pictures from a single or multiple PDF files of all versions such as 1.3/1.4/1.5/1.6/1.7, from Adobe Acrobat 3.x to Adobe Acrobat X either it is normal or corrupted as it is very simple to use.  After extracting the images and pictures, it allows you to save them in different formats such as JPEG, BMP, PNG and GIF. It is one of the fastest extracting tools which does extraction process in no more time.
    i used this tool as it was refered earlier in this thread, and i am totally satisfy from this tool : PDF Image Extractor from SysInfoTools. What a utility excellent work done by experts.

  • Unable to deploy the PAR file after the first successfully deploy.

    Hi, my gurus.
    I found a problem when I developed the JspDynPage.
    That is after  first deploy the PAR file successfully,I found there is a miss in portalapp.xml, so I correct the miss and then do a second delpoy.But it didn't work.
    I goto the Server's file system to find the portalapp.xml,
    the content of xml was still the old one.
    Anyone can help me, I don't want restart the J2EE Engine,
    because the restart will last for 15mintues.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I dont think there is no need to restart your J2EE Engine.
    Becuase i dont think you have a requirement to create an iview from that PAR File
    If it is so delete the previous iview and create a new iview.
    From the updated PAR File in ur System
    Every Time when you uplaod the PAR the old instance will be lost.and new changes will come into effect on each upload done by you.
    There is no question of restarting ur J2EE Engine.
    Whenever there is a change in you PAR.
    Hope this Helps you.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Lokesh.

    Best regards,
    Nils Kloth

    Hi Nils,
    I think you must have selected the defualt checkbox (Try and uncheck that). Also uncheck the checkbox for "<i>Yes, I want to remeber the password for deployment</i>" if it is also selected. When you deploy the par file now enter the password and try to deploy. I think this will solve your problem.
    Apart from this, try this methos of deploying the Par file.
    1) Save you project. Right click it and "Quick par Upload".
    2) On your browser type
    "http://<your_server_name>:50000/irj/servlet/prt/portal/"
    Your case:
    <i>http://khz059:52900/irj/servlet/prt/portal/</i>
    or same page you can get by navigating:
    System Administration-> Support-> Portal Runtime-> Administration Console.
    3) At the option "Please specify a Portal Archive file (PAR) and press "upload" to store it into the PCD." Deploy your par file by giving the path.
    Now you file is deployed on the server. If you want to create an Iview from this deployed .par file then :
    1) On your portal. Follow the path: Content Administrator-> Portal Content -> Portal Content(sub-option). Right click -> New from par ->iView.
    2) Here in the list you will find the par file which you have uploaded. Proceed as said.
    3) You will finally have an iView. Right click it and preview it.
    I hope this solves your problem.
    Regards
    Pravesh

  • How to get the Clinet IP address in PAR files

    Hi Frndzz...
    My requirement is  to get the log on details of portal users, here i need the User ID n client IP address .
    Am trying to  get these details from masthead iview PAR file, and this details am passing to a java(custom) class which can create a log_Test.txt file with these details.
    User ID am gettiing using UME API like this in masthead PAR file
    public void GetWelcomeID(IPortalComponentRequest request, String welcomeClause)
    IUserContext userContext = request.getUser();
    String usr =userContext.getLogonUid();
    But am unable to get the Client IP
    In normal JSP will get the client IP like this   request.getRemoteAddress()
    So in par file i used the IPORTALCOMPONET request to get the client IP,  i thought IPORTALCOMPONET request  is equalent to HTTPSERVLETRequest request interface.
    Any one suggest me that how we can get the Client IP in PAR files .
    Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    Rajesh

    Hi,
    This is a very interesting question, i searched many time before to get an answer for this on sdn. I havn't found solution. As i know, It is very diffcult to find the ip address from request object.
    The main reason is, before reaching the servlet class the request is by pass through other node like dispatcher/central node. If you try to fetch request objects ip from server class i think it will only return you the dispatcher server ip only.
    There is a solution for this problem.. if you are able to fetch the ip using some client side scripting and pass it to the servelet as parameter, i hopes you can acheive this.
    I will try this and let u know the result.
    Others please share your thoughts on this topic.

  • Exception when using a renamed com.sap.portal.navigation.toolarea.par file

    Hi,
    I would like to modify the toolarea of our SAP Enterprise Portal. Basically, I just want to move the tools to the right hand side.
    <b>Problem Description</b>
    According to several threads I found on sdn
    - How to modify the header
    - copy and rename par-file?
    it should be fairly simple to modify the tool area.
    - download com.sap.portal.navigation.toolarea.par from portal server
    - import the downloaded par file into your NetWeaver Developer Studio
    - Change the ToolAreaiView.jsp in project folder dist/PORTAL-INF/jsp
    - Save changes
    - Deploy project to the portal server (>File>Export>Par File><Name of your project>>Next>...)
    - Remove the standard Tool Area iView from your Framework page
    - Create a new iView from your uploaded par file (chose default component)
    - Add new created iView to your Framework page
    Done, you should see your customized tool area. Unfortunately I encounter a Portal Runtime Exception (Page could not create the iView). I did exactly as described above.
    - I downloaded the com.sap.portal.navigation.toolarea.par.bak file from >System Administration>Support>Portal Runtime>Browse Deployment>ROOT>WEB-INF/deployment/temp.
    - Extracted the com.sap.portal.navigation.toolarea.par after changing the downloaded files file extension to zip
    - Imported the extracted par file into Netweaver Developer Studio under a new project name
    - Found the ToolAreaiView.jsp in project folder dist/PORTAL-INF/jsp
    - Did NO changes
    - Exported the project into a par file and deployed the par file to the portal successfully.
    - Removed the old Tool Area iView from the Framework page
    - Created a new Tool Area iView from my uploaded par file (default component)
    - Added the new created iView to the Framework page.
    - I logged on again and instead of the Tool Area I see an error message
    <i>Portal Runtime Error

    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hi Yoav,
    thank you for your swift response. You were right. I do not know why but after I imported the downloaded par file into NetWeaver Developer Studio, the new created project did not contain the jar files, which come with the par file. I added the jar files manually to the project, put them into the project's build path and instructed the NWDS to put them into the par file which I deployed to the portal server.
    Afterwards I completed the routine described in my first post and everything worked out. Thanks a lot for that hint.
    By the way do you know how to instruct NWDS to include the jar files automatically during an import?
    Best regards,
    Martin

  • Deployed par file does not show as an iview create option

    Hello Experts,
    I modified the com.sap.portal.runtime.masthead par app and deployed it to the portal as myCustomMasthead.
    I see the par file in under the Support Workset in the portal, but when I'm in content admin and try to create an iview from the deployed par file template, the option for the deployed par does not show? Do I need to request basis to bounce the J2ee engine? What might be wrong?
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    MM

    Hi Nishant,
    Yes the file exists under ROOT/WEB-INF/portal/portalapps.
    And I am not using iview from template option, I am using iview from par file option.
    I did not deploy the par file from NWDS, I created the par file in NWDS and then manually deployed the par file using the par uploader tool in the portal.
    Do I need to do anything in the portalapp.xml file? This is what my portalapp.xml file looks like:
    <application>
      <application-config>
        <property name="ClassLoadingPolicy" value="5.0"/>
        <property name="DeploymentPolicy" value="5.0"/>
        <property name="AuthenticationPolicy" value="5.0"/>
      </application-config>
      <components/>
    <services/>
    </application>
    Then there is also another portalapp.xml in the dist folder that has all this SAP stuff inside it. The top line says not to modify the file.
    I bounced the J2EE Engine but it didnt fix the issue.

  • During recovery from recovery partition I get message "INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing

    During recovery from recovery partition I get message:
    INF file txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 14.
    Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.
    Now I have a computer with a recovery partition and that's about it.
    The C partition has been formatted by recovery and files have been copied but I can't get any further.
    The computer is an nc6220 and the OS, if the recovery would work, is winXP pro.
    Anyone have any ideas ?

    I assume you ran recovery from the hard drive?
    If so,
    I would run a chkdsk on the recovery partition it may fix the sif file corruption.
    You can do this from a XP boot cd using the command prompt, you just need to run it on the recovery partition instead of the C drive as explained in this article.
    http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=5097
    if you use the
    map
    command, it will list all the partitions and the drive letters
    so the command might look something like this
    chkdsk /r D:
    D: represents the recovery partition, which may be different than D:
