Recovery from failed R2 upgrade

Hi All,
We had a nightmare with R2 over the weekend, it failed, and we are now reinstalling our CAS!
We are at the point where we are running the SP1 install with 'Recover a Site' selection.
We are failing with the following:
ERROR: Failed to write certificate configuration to registry on server ***OUR CLUSTER***
Configuration Manager Setup 16/12/2013 10:11:04
5012 (0x1394)
ERROR: Failed to create SQL Server ***OUR CLUSTER*** certificate remotely.
Configuration Manager Setup 16/12/2013 10:11:04
5012 (0x1394)
We've followed all the logs and the following are all correct:
Site Server is local admin on both nodes
Install Account is SA and local admin on both nodes
SQL Services are running as domain account and this is a member of local admins and SA.
We also deleted reg key (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS)
Nothing helped.
We are recovering by pointing at a primary site.
Some other errors which may or may not be important:
WARNING: Failed to initialize COM to get SDK Providers. It might already be initialized. return code: 80010106.

I've also seen a blog which indicated to have a read of srvboot.log - but I can't locate this?!
Thanks in advance,
Peter

Hi,
The srvboot.log should be located on the SQL server.
Please make sure the account that running SQL service has the appropriate SPN are registered. And the site server computer account is a Sysadmin in the SQL instance?

Joyce Li

  • Backups Recovery from Failed Time Machine Disk

    Hello;
I have been experiencing a serious problem since this April, tried everything I can do with no sign of success. So I though to ask you guys, hopefully you will be able to help or at least guide me to whom can help.
Well, it is a long story, but not to bother you with it and since I know you are not willing to go to bed now, I will just give you a timeline and if you feel like want to know more about a scene, tell me and I will narrate...
    - I have MBA 256GB and 1.5TB Seagate GoFlex for Mac, which was used mainly for Time Machine, according to "backups.backupdb" it contains 75 backups.
    - Due to accidental unplugging, it failed. First I was seeing error that I have to backup this drive, then it was totally unreadable on Mac but works on Win and Linux, then after a while it stooped working even on Win, but still working on Linux.
    - I tried many solutions to fix the drive/disk without formatting, since I had no alternative media to backup the drive to before formatting. None worked.
    - A month ago, I bought the new 2TB Time Capsule. Then using Linux terminal I managed to copy the whole "backups.backupdb" folder to another disk; however, after copying I found its size 65.5GB And obviously when Time Machine was used to browse these bacups, it did not find any!
    - Used Data Rescue 3 to clone an image for the whole Seagate disk, it is 1.5TB.
    - While the Seagate is not yet formatted, I used Data Rescue 3 to scan it for the lost files inside, and it found everything already there; but the "backups.backupdb" was 14.1TB! I do know why or how!!
    - I tried to format the Seagate, they reused Data Rescue 3 to scan it, and the result was the same.
    - I tried to mount the cloned image, of course the drive was not mounted since it is corrupted but the disk was attached, and reused Data Rescue 3 to scan it, and the result was the same for the third time. No wonders for me, I know the three cases maybe identical.
Finally, here is what I have now:
    - Formatted and readable 1.5TB Seagate disk.
    - Cloned 1.5TB image from the Seagate disk, before formatting.
    - 2TB Time Capsule, 1.5TB of it is occupied by the cloned image file.
    - Additional 500GB and 1TB extrenal disks.
    - I also have an iPhone, new wallet, and other irrelevant stuff!
And all what I think about is way to browse the cloned DMG so that I can extract my REAL "backups.backupdb" folder.
Does any of you have a clue how to do that?
Or any other method to recover my backups?
Once more, there is details for every part, just tell me if you want to know more.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Kind Ragards.
    -MHD

Then using Linux terminal I managed to copy the whole "backups.backupdb" folder to another disk
You can't copy Time Machine backups that way, unless you used asr(8), which I don't think you did.
The "GoFlex" device accounts for a disproportionate number of reports on this site of problems with Time Machine. I suggest you stop using it for backing up.
Delete whatever you copied to the Time Capsule and start a new backup. I strongly recommend that you also back up to a locally-attached hard drive (not the GoFlex) at least some of the time, as network backups are less reliable. You should have more than one backup anyway.

  • Itunes recovery from failed hard drive

    Hi all,
my hard drive failed recently. I've replaced it, reloaded windows (7), and have a copy of my itunes library on an external drive.
I'm guessing it's not as simple as re-installing itunes, and then copying over the file structure from the backup so I can access everything.
I'm also assuming that as my pod, phone and pad were all registered to the itunes on the old hard disk, this is no longer the case and they will need re-registering. How do I de-register them from the old drive (is it possible?), as from memory I can only register them some many times on a PC.
I'm also presuming that all purchased music, apps etc, would re-load to the new itunes ready for syncing - or again, is that far too easy?
    Any help would be welcome.
    Thanks.

It pretty much is, although restoring the files before installing iTunes is easier since there is no temporary empty library to worry about.

As long as you've recovered the whole library there should not be any issues. Your previous iOS device backups are lost but you can backup each iOS device as long as it is working and your library should not be treated as "new" with respect to the devices.
You will have lost one PC authorization. That can be reset if needed using the deauthorize all option.

  • Data recovery from failed HDD in my 2.16 Core 2 Duo black case?

I have a question mark upon startup and the OS never launches, and I tried using a new 10.6 DVD to install the OS again and use the utilities on the DVD. I quickly saw there was no recognition of the HDD. I ordered and am installing a new 320GB 7200 RPM HDD soon as it arrives here. I also am thinking of picking up a Newer Tech universal USB drive adapter to see what I can grab from my original HDD if possible. Is this the best route to go to recover data? Super Duper can also be used to clone the old drive, I think, during the install of 10.6 on the new HDD, but I'm unclear about that step. Why not just start the old drive as a target drive and pull files from it?
Am I crazy or will this work?
Your help is much appreciated in advance.

BTW Firewire is not faster but is perhaps more uniform in transfers.
    -Ken
Minor correction (or just clarification, if you will):
The maximum transfer speed for the older Firewire was 400MB/s. The newer technology maxes out at 800MB/s. USB has a maximum of 480MB/s.
The important thing to note is that the average transfer speed for Firewire (the older version) is faster than the average transfer speed for USB in nearly every case. If you're moving a lot of data (dozens or hundreds of GBs) around, you'll want the higher average speed to save the time.

  • Recovery from Recovery Discs failed

My notebook is an Envy 17t-3200 3d CTO. It originally had Windows 7 (64 bit). I upgraded it to Windows 8 (64-bit) and then using the Windows store I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I loaned my Notebook to someone when I got it back I noticed a lot of programs on it that they had installed. So I decided to use my recovery disks (Windows 7 64-bit) to clean everything off and reload what I wanted. The recovery choices that appear include “system recovery” and “factory reset”. I decided to select the “factory reset” since it would format my Windows drive and then restored the notebook to the factory condition. After loading the five recovery disks I got screen that said the recovery has failed. It saved the information to a CAB file, but this forum doesn't support attachements.

    Hi AirForce9731,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY 17t-3200 3D Notebook and recovery manager fails to restore. Here is a link to troubleshoot why the recovery manager fails  to restore.
Please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • Unit test fails after upgrading to Kodo 4.0.0 from 4.0.0-EA4

I have a group of 6 unit tests failing after upgrading to the new Kodo
4.0.0 (with BEA) from Kodo-4.0.0-EA4 (with Solarmetric). I'm getting
exceptions like the one at the bottom of this email. It seems to be an
interaction with the PostgreSQL driver, though I can't be sure. I
haven't changed my JDO configuration or the related classes in months
since I've been focusing on using the objects that have already been
defined. The .jdo, .jdoquery, and .java code are below the exception,
just in case there's something wrong in there. Does anyone have advice
as to how I might debug this?
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Recovery from backup fails... what to do?

My iPhone 3gs has been getting slower and slower over some time now. Sometimes it could take up to one minuet to lock the phone after pressing the button. Also my photos was unavailable from the iPhone, every time I tried to access the photos or an application tried to save a photo, the app crashed. So I decided that it might be an idea to take a backup start over on the phone. Recovery to factory settings seems to go fine, and efter I unlock the sim card for the first time, I am asked if I would like to recover from itunes, iCould or make a new phone. I select itunes and connect to my computer, it downloads all data to the phone, and begins to reboot. In the reboot, it freezes on the screen with the apple logo and the statusbar on approxemately 15 %. I have tried a couple of times now, and it is exactly the same place each time. I have tried holding lock and home buttons down and forcing a reboot, I have tried to download several older firmwares to recover form, I have downloaded the newest iTunes, I have tried waiting for hours hoping that the statusbar will start moving again, but all without any luck...
I suspect that something was corrupted in my image folder causing all image programs to fail, and maybe it is the same that has been transferred to the backup, and that is causing my recovery to fail.
Is there a way to check/change the contents of a backup before reloading it?
Or does anyone have any other ideas to how I can get my data back from the backup?
    Waiting with anticipation
    With best regards
    Kristian Mørck

I'm not aware of anything that would allow you to edit/change the contents of a backup.  About the best your could do is use a program like iPhone Backup Extractor to try to extract as much of your data from the backup as possible.

  • Windows Server 2012 - Backup failing with Exchange - The application will not be available for recovery from this backup. the consistency check failed

    Hi
We have a Windows 2012 server with Exchange 2013, all is working fine except now i am getting issues with the backup.
'Exchange - The application will not be available for recovery from this backup. the consistency check failed for the component Microsoft Exchange Server'
I have checked the database all is fine, i have created a new db and move all mailbox;s over and then removed the old db, i have enabled circular logging and then disabled it, it seems no matter what i do i cannot get a full backup!
i did have to restore the server once and the backups still worked for about 4 days after that and then stopped, i have also tried to remove and re add the backup role!
i am stumped, any advice would be great!

    Hi
Ok, i created a test db and tried to back it up right away, it failed, i did not add any mailbox's to it either. i got quite a few events in the windows logs, as well as the same event above i got the following:

  • Recovery from USB media fails in error 10-fc12-0241

    -Got a new laptop t135-s1309.
    -works great.
-created recovery media on usb using the creation utility.
-to test recovery media, I ran recovery from the usb media.
-starts and carry's out recovery for a time.
    -then error 10-fc12-0241 is displayed.
-I then recovery from the hidden partition on the hard disk by holding the zero key down during startup.
-this works and the machine is restored.
-by the way i shrunk the 'c' drive to 70 Gb and have a 210 Gb 'd' drive.
-the machine recovers as expected from the hard drive. I use the choice where partitions are not altered.
-I tried two different usb flash drives. One a Kingston 8GB, the other a Dane-Elec 8GB.
-I don't feel there is a hardware problem.
-I want to have recovery media besides the hard drive so I can recover should the hard disk fail or the hidden partition becomes faulty/unusable.

Probably because the recovery program doesn't support USB connected devices.

  • HP laptop g7-1150us recovery (from recovery media) failed.

    Model: HP laptop g7-1150us
recovery media: 3 DVDs that I created when I got this laptop.
Hard disk: I have run diagnosis for hard disk. Passed.
    Problem:
I have tried recovery from recovery media. Following the instruction, I insert 3 DVDs. It copied the required files from DVD to the hard disk and shows "recovery preparation is complete".  Also, it shows it will start recovery after restarting the computer. Once the computer is restarted, it shows boot failed. It is exactly the same story when I tried recovery manager from internal recovery disk.

If you can read the 25 character Microsoft Windows 7 license key attached to bottom of laptop, you can download a Windows 7 ISO file to burn to a DVD or USB flash drive. The version  must match version that came installed on your PC as  listed on the Microsoft COA sticker attached to bottom of laptop. Such as Windows Home Premium.
Link to the Windows 7 ISO file downloads:
    http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/
You can use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to convert the ISO file you download. Link and instructions below. You need a  DVD+R or DVD -R . Or a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool#installation
Use the 25 character key on the COA to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Next go to your support and driver page to install the drivers you need.

  • System recovery from partition recovery fails

    hi there,
I tried doing a system recovery on my HP Pavilion from the reovery partition. I tried the "System Recovery" option.
The preparation process wnt fine, but the actual recovery failed with a pretty meaningless message:
The recovery attempt has failed. Please select one of the following buttons.
    - Details
    - Retry
I checked out the log file but found no useful info. The process did crate a log file, HP_RM_LOG.SRD, a binary file that should be of help to HP Support when trubleshooting the issue.
I tried this a number of times with the same outcome. I also tried the "Factory Reset" option with the same result. Unfortuntely I did not create the recovery media before attempting the system recovery from the recovery partition (my bad).
Any ideas how to move forward?
    Thanks,
    Nacho.

    Hi there @Nacho74
Welcome to the Hp Support Forums!
I understand that you are trying to do a system restore, and getting an error during the process. Also from the information you gave it looks like you installed OS X 10.6.  When you installed that did you leave the recovery partition intact?
Which operating system was original installed on the notebook? Normally that notebook was installed with either windows 8 or 8.1 from the factory, and if the recovery partition is intact it would only be able to recover to whichever of those was installed to begin with.

  • How to recover from a bad upgrade due to a blackout, stuck in the recovery itunes screen on the iphone

how to recover from a bad upgrade, due to a blackout. stuck in the recovery itunes screen on the iphone

    Bjpolinda,
Do you have a recent iCloud or iTunes backup? If so, just plug your phone into iTunes, restore the phone and bring your backup back by following the prompts on the phone.
If you didn't back up your phone before attempting to update, you may have lost all your photos and other data on your phone. If you restore the phone through iTunes, it will most definitely wipe your phone of all data and reset it to factory settings.

  • Recovery from created discs failed...what did I do wrong?

I had created the recovery discs shortly after getting the T61 - 6459CTO w/ Vista.  It created 1 CD to be labeled START Recovery  and 2 DVDs labeled Product Recovery 1 & 2.  BIOS sequence was changed to boot from the CD.
Inserted and booted from the start recovery CD.  It then asked if I had an Operating System Recovery Disc...I said YES but none of the 3 discs were recognized as valid after inserting so I pressed NO.  It then asked for Product recovery Disc 1 and Disc 2 which I did.  It then asked for a Supplemental recovery disc.  I don't have one of those and pressed no.    A message started counting down...went down to 1 second and the machine hung.  I finally had to hold the power button for an extended time to power it down.
    (a) Should my system have created an OS recovery disc?
    (b) Should it have created a Supplemental Product disc?
    (c) Is this the proper sequence for a recovery from disc to "out of the box"  state?
    (d) suggestions?  (other than calling tech support for factory discs)
    Thanks much!
PS This is a fresh HD so no recovering from the service partition.
    Solved!

    hello
i assume that you have lost your hidden partiiton right?
supplementary s/w disks are model specific and donnot have much of an importance in recvery process it is the choice of the users according to which either you can use supplimentary cd's or not.but those cd's may contain essential s/w for runnning some services of your system as well..so coming to recovery thing ..if you aleady had vista installed you should not have done the reocovery process..if you still have vista installed try making the discs once again
do check out this link as well

  • Recovery system failed and now I can't seem to find a way to start my MacBook

My MacBook Pro 13" had been giving me small but recurrent problems lately. Every couple of days for the past two weeks the spinning beach ball had been showing up and the Mac ended up asking me to hold down the power button to turn it off and then restart the laptop.
I checked and repaired the HD via disk utilities. It said it was repaired but it didn't make any difference.
Yesterday the beach ball appeares much more often (every half an hour, or less) so I decided to start in Recovery mode (cmd - r) and then just fully recover the system from the external HD I use with time machine.
That's when it went even worse. The recovery from the back up failed saying I should try again but when I try to start the MacBook only does two things: one - if I don't hold anything down it gives me an error and makes me force shut down the computer, which gives me the idea that everything is erased from the hard drive. And two - if I try to press again cmd - r, first the apple logo shows up and then it changes into the prohibited sign. It keeps thinking for longer than 5 minutes.
I don't know what to do anymore.
Is there another way to try to recover my time machine backup from the external HD?
What kind of problem could be causing all of this?
I have to add that as I'm traveling and away from home I don't have with me the system CDs that came with the MacBook.
Any ideas on how to try to restart and recover my MacBook?

Make sure you get the Original Replacement set of system discs. That usually costs more than $20. Some where around $40. What it sounds like is whoever you spoke to wanted to sell you a snow leopard upgrade disc. Which may work but it would not included the ilife applications. You really need the Original system discs, not a upgrade os disc.
You have to be specific when you call them. You have to state you need the Original system discs. To get them you have to give them the serial number of the system. If whoever you are speaking to never asks for the serial number of your mac then they are not going to send you a replacement set of original system discs. You need to ask to be redirected to the correct department to get the original system discs. Let me state again the Original system discs, not a upgrade os install disc.
Hope this works out for you.
