Recovery in Windows XP

Hi all,
e
10.2.0.3
Windows XP
We have a datase on winxp which has crashed. The services were all gone but the ORADATA/PROD is still intact.
I want to recover or rebuild in on another XP machine.
So I installed  Oracle 10.2.01 there with the default instance named PROD.
Once completed, I shutdown the databse and rename the existing ORADATA/PROD to ORADATA/PROD_NEW.
Then I copy the original ORADATA/PROD which was orphanned by the crashed server to the now location since I name the instance as is.
I just want to foster my orphanned prod to this new server.
But when I started it up. I got this error:
SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area  612368384 bytes
Fixed Size                  1292060 bytes
Variable Size             339740900 bytes
Database Buffers          268435456 bytes
Redo Buffers                2899968 bytes
ORA-00201: control file version 10.2.0.3.0 incompatible with ORACLE version
10.2.0.1.0
ORA-00202: control file:
'E:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\PROD\CONTROL01.CTL'
Then I updaded the OracleHome to 10.2.0.3 but still the same error persist.
What is wrong with my recovery process?
Thanks a lot,
zxy

But that is exactly what I did But the same error persist. Thanks
Any another ideas?
This is what I did:
I created a dummy database PROD to foster my orphanned db from the other server ( I only know that it is 10.2.0.x) I only pressume it 10,2,0,1
So I installed firs 10.2.0.1, then shutdown and replace the dummy dbfiles to my orphanned dbfiles. When I started it  i got ORA-00201: error, so I pressume my orpanned db is 10.2.0.3.
So I renamed back my oradata/prod  to  old and switch back the dummy data. Then I installed the patch. I could have opted not to upgrade the dummy db since I just what the original db. But I still completed the upgrade successfully against the dummy database. Then I shutdown and switch the files again. But when I started it up,
Still the same error.    please helppppppppp

  • Recovery Manager / Windows 8 / Failing to restore / discs purchased from HP

Last week I purchased a set of recovery discs directly from HP.com. Before this my laptop was running perfectly fine, no issues at all. I purchased the discs in hope of restoring my laptop to its factory settings. After receiving the first set of discs I inserted the first disc and powered my laptop down and then powered it back up. I then proceeded to follow the instructions presented in the interface. I noticed when I got to the 4th disc, the "Application and Driver Recovery DVD", that the image was not taking at all. After such I received the following message in Recovery Manager: "In most cases, recovering the hard drive will fix your problems. If your problems continue, you may need to contact HP Support. Find HP Support contact information in your PC documentation".
From there I clicked on the "finish" tab that resulted in the laptop powering down but not rebooting. So I powered it back up manually where I received the infamous "Boot Device Not Found / Please install an operating system on your hard disk / Hard Disk (3F0) / F2 System Diagnostics" message. I was immediately alarmed. I proceeded to repeat the system recovery instructions once again. These were the instructions provided by HP along with the recovery discs.
Once again I received the same messages, the same results. So I immediately contacted HP support. The first agent I spoke to acted as if he had never heard of the "Boot Device Not Found" problem, which I now know is very common with HP notebooks. He diagnosed the problem as faulty recovery discs, thus he had a new set expedited to my home. I received them a few days later, the exact same set of discs and instructions. Of course I was feeling weary about things at this point. And as I expected I received the exact same results as I did with the prior set of discs.
So once again I contacted HP support where they looked into other problems, such as the health of my HDD. But the HDD passed both the quick check and the extensive check. Like I stated earlier, before I started the recovery process with the HP discs I had no problems with my laptop at all, including my HDD. So the agent had me go through the BIOS solution that I have seen others use on here, where legacy mode is enabled. This solution to failed.
I've also tried resetting the BIOS to it's default settings. I've also carefully removed my HDD and reseated it nice and snug. After doing so I ran the diagnostic tool, and once again the HDD passed with flying colors. HP support finally suggested, as I was already expecting, for me to have the laptop sent off to them to have it repaired. This is not an option. It was a perfectly running machine before I ran the recovery discs and it should be the same now.
But one thing I did notice from the get go, after receiving the first set of discs, and researching what the interface of the recovery manager should look like (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643), was the fact that the interface established by the windows 8 recovery discs that I received, look nothing like that found on the HP support site. It also never gave me the option, like it states in the instructions that were provided with the discs, to select either a "Factory Reset" or a "File Backup Program". The system recovery instructions are dated as Second Edition: March 2014 but the 3 operating discs are dated 2012 with the Driver disc being dated 2014.
Like I stated before, after running all 3 operating discs through, without interuption, the Driver disc does nothing when asked if I have a supplemental disc. With that all being said, has anyone ever been provided the wrong set of recovery discs directly from HP? Or do you know of another solution that might solve my dilema? Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.
I'm just wondering if I might have received a set of discs intended for let's say a desktop system running Windows 8 instead of the ones needed for a laptop.
The following is the name and part # of the discs that I received: "System Recovery DVD Windows 8 Recovery Media for Windows 8 Products". 1st disc: 708664-001, 2nd disc: 708665-001, 3rd disc: 708666-001, 4th disc (Application and Driver): 712189-B26.

Did the replacement disks work? I have the exact same problem, hours on the phone, no solution except send to them with more money
Nope. I gave up trying to get real support and a resolution from them. You'd think they would have at least a few local American reps to communicate with, but I guess HP is too **bleep** cheap to pay a few extra bucks to hire such people!
Anyhow I took a different route in restoring my operating system, thanks to an individual on another tech site. He gave me a link to an ISO file that at least got me back up and running.
And don't, whatever you do, send them anymore money. It's a complete ripoff, complete sham. After, like I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, communicating hours after hours with HP support over this matter I was told I would receive a full refund, even though the discs sold to me originally had already blown out my Windows 8 operating system. I reluctantly agreed. I just didn't want to deal with them anymore. Over a week had passed and I saw that my credit card had still not been credited like I had been promised by the HP rep. So I called back to see what was going on with it.
Once again I was put through the ringer, told to call this and that number, connected over and over with different Indian reps. Finally one, after speaking with her supervisor, told me I would NOT be receiving a refund because I had received and used the discs. I finally stopped being polite at this point. I blew up on the phone! These effers admittedly sent me the "copied wrong" discs not once, but 3 freaking times! Thus blowing out my operating system! Prior to being told I would receive a 100% refund, I offered to go directly to the HP distribution center where the discs originated from. Ironically it's only about 40 miles from my home. I just wanted to take my laptop there with me to find the correct software to restore my operating system. But they, the HP reps, would not allow such. Complete BS!
Thankfully I was able to contact my credit card company and was able to dispute the charge. When I told the "American" rep that I was having a problem with HP he started chuckling. He pretty much told me that HP was one of the most disputed companies out there. He took care of everything for me. I was able to get a full refund for the time being.
I will never buy another HP product again. And this is coming from someone who has not only an HP laptop but a 2 year old desktop as well, and not too mention my HP printer. After this ordeal they, HP, will never get a dime from me again!

  • How to have Snow Leopard, Mavericks with built-in recovery, and Windows 7 (Bootcamp) on my iMac (Intel)?

I would like to have Snow Leopard, Mavericks with built-in recovery, and Windows 7 (Bootcamp) on my iMac (Intel).  Is this possible?  If so, how?  Currently, I have Snow Leopard and Windows 7 (Bootcamp) running on my iMac.  I have enough disk space to split my Snow Leopard partition.  I have read that if I split my Snow Leopard partition, clone my Snow Leopard partition to the new partition, and boot to the new partition, that I may have problems with the Maverick's upgrade because it may not be able to create the recovery parition, or that it may erase the Windows partition, or that it may mess up the Windows boot process.

Simplest is to install Mavs on an ext HD, using FW or TB. I don't do windoze, so can't advise about the Boot Camp and multiple volumes issue. Since there's no Boot Camp, I have four volumes running SL through Mavs.

  • Boot partitions with recovery and windows? new SSD drive

    Gang,
I have a new Retina 15 and bought a larger SSD from OWC. I also upgraded  an older MB Air (from 128 to 240GB) and so I had an OWC Envoy with the original 128G from the MB Air in it. Killer by the way with USB3 support. So I plugged the Envoy into the Retina formatted the Envoy and then used that as a back up for the Retina using Time Machine.
I swapped out the old drive in the Retina and then put in the new OWC drive and of course the boot recovery partition was not there and so I plugged in the Envoy which had it and formatted the drive then installed from backup and everything worked fine.
BUT.... I no longer have a recovery or windows partition both of which I would like to have for this machine.
So how do I do that? Reinstall MT LION?
    Thanks
    Gordon

    Gang,
Ok here is how you do it!
First create a MT Lion Recovery disk using Lion Disk Maker:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39701/lion-diskmaker
Then do a time machine backup to some kind of local drive or as I did my TimeCapsule.
Boot holding down the option key with the Recovery Disk inserted (I made 16 SD card, but a 8G usb stick or the larger DVD writtable drive would work as well) and select to boot to the Recovery Disk. When booted, reformat the root boot drive with GUID partition and then do a full install to your standard boot drive. This will create the recovery partition and load the OS. This is the only way to get the recovery partition created.
When done then select the Drive option when asked for were to upgrade your machine from. Then select the time machine backup which will load all your stuff.
    Your done!
    Thanks
    Gordon

  • Lenovo Yoga 3 14 recovery and Windows 10 upgrade

    Hi,
I have a few questions regarding Lenovo Yoga 3 14 recovery and Windows 10 upgrade (should be generic questions that apply to other models as well):
1# Will the Windows 10 update and activation change in any way the Win8.1 OEM serial key stored in BIOS? Is there any chance that any software changes that BIOS OEM key (like malware or similar)?
2# After updating to Windows 10, if I put the USB recovery pen drive (created in Win8.1), will I be able to restore the Win8.1 version (factory restore), and successfully activate it and use it without issues?
3# On a clean drive (without any partitions, like for instance if I buy a new one), if I use the same USB recovery pen drive (created in Win8.1) to do a factory reset, will it re-create all partitions, including the recovery partition one?
    Thanks

    1) Run the Win 10 installation and choose "Upgrade Windows" option. Windows 10 will be installed and it will be activated.
The chance of any software changing the OEM key is insignificant.
    2) Yes, you can recover Win 8.1 successfully. No need to activate it, it will be auto-activated.
    3) I dont have experience with this but reading around the forum I have seen that using a recovery drive on a new HDD may not install windows and re-create partitions.
The recovery partition is the hardest to re-create on a new HDD, even you are able to re-create it the NOVO button usually doesnt work.
Let me know if I answered your questions. Thanks.

  • Recovery Manager Windows 10

Having Upgraded to windows 10 from Windows 7 Home Edition, I am also planning to upgrade my hardware (memory 4G>8G and an SSD).  The SSD being a bit smaller in capacity(240gigs) than my installed drive (441 C drive +19.69 D recovery partition or about 461 gigs), I am trying to eliminate anything unneeded on the drive.  I wanted to create a recovery disk &/or image on one of my NAS drives so that I can safely delete the D partition, but cannot find the HP Recovery Manager.  I have learned that many people are finding that the Recovery Manager is blocked in Windows 10 because of an expired security certificate, but I can't even find the Recovery Manager.  I'm probably going to stick with Windows 10, but I want to err on the side of caution and keep a way to recover my  system, just in case.  I could create an image of my whole system myself and save it to an .iso file on one of my 2T hard drives, but I'd like to be able to use the HP Recovery Manager if at all possible.  Is it?

Recovery partiton contains windows 8.1 - It will create only recovery of windows 8.1 even if you install Windows 10 or 8 or 7.The windows 10 copy that you will get is from microsoft and not HP and its free.so if you ever need to re-install, you will have to install windows 8.1 and then perform the upgrade again. You can also download the win10 ISO and burn it to a disc or create a bootable USB Flash Drive to install from and use your microsoft account to activate win10.

  • Windows 8 Recovery Disks/Windows 10

Will the recovery disks work with WINDOWS 10? Thank you, Lynn

Commentary Hmm..  I am not the best one to answer in detail about some of this; I have less 'hands on' experience with this subject than some of our Experts. The Recovery Drive inlcudes your installation software to the extent that "full program" software - both Windows and HP programs and and Drivers are included.  That means if the program is the "full version" and NOT a trial version of the program, and it was fully installed when you first booted the computer, that software program / Driver should be there.  If the program was a trial version, for example, a trial version of Security Software or a trial version of Office Software -- or a trial version of a game or photo software program, then THAT program -- or group of programs -- will not be included on the Recovery. Why the discrepancy?  Trial software is just that -- temporary stuff.  You don't get a second shot at it. You can get an idea of the types of HP software that are included by opening your Recovery Manager and sifting through the list of drivers and software (check under "I need immediate help" > list). The "whole version" Windows programs, for the most part will be listed in Programs and Features.  Remember the warning about "trial" software -- you won't see trial software should you ever need to recovery the Operating System. Reading the Recovery Drive Data:Even assuming you read the Recovery drive data and it checks out, none of it would prove reliably whether the Recovery will actually work when the time comes to apply the data.  Why?  Because reading the information from a quiecent database does not indicate how the data will respond to a data recovery situation. Depending on the Drive data format - to read the database:Use DISM or (possibly) read with Win7 zip (When using with Windows 8, this could corrupt the .wim file, use caution when opening the file).   =============================================================If you are concerned about the Recovery Drive integrity -- and you might have reason to be at least a bit concerned because sometimes the Recovery media does indeed fail  -- you can ask HP about purchasing a set of Recovery media. If you are in the USA, you need to fill out a web form and leave contact information -- the "new way", I am afraid.  We are now in "modern times" and everyone must first fill out the form before talking to an agent.   Form only takes a couple of minutes, so no worse than typing anything else... Contact HP – USA - Assistance HP Tech support/ Customer Service – Some English Speaking CountriesIncluding UK and Europe =============================================================You could do what others have done, too -- you can create a Image of your data.  This is like the Windows 7 Image with which we are all familiar -- and to some extent you get to tell the Image what it will contain.   This is meant to be a "backup" to your other means of recovery.  Windows 8 Features – A Quick Tour See Section titled:Image Backup – Windows 8 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Custom Refresh Option is a hybrid Recovery operation -- assuming your computer is not completely trashed (inoperable) and that perhaps it only needs the Operating System reinstalled along with some of the programs and setups, then the Custom Refresh might be useful.  This, too, is a "backup" means of Recovery.  It is not a "full" Recovery option in that the Refresh only "overloads" the Operating System; there is no disk format and the User's files (your data) are not interrupted -- don't trust it:  Back up your personal data. Reminder:Custom Refresh requires the use of the Recovery Manager.  See Section titled:Refresh and Custom Refresh Option NOTE:Understand that, depending on what is going on (what is wrong), Custom Refresh does not always provides the necessary means to get the computer running again -- do not depend on this as your only means of recovering the system  -- Custom Refresh does give you the option to back up your installed programs (other than just the Windows installed at factory) and it does provide a possible means to "reload" a touchy-itchy-not-running-quite-right computer more quickly than it takes to run a full Recovery. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------To all who pass here: Failing to back up your personal data is begging for trouble.  This means you should back up your personal data to a USB drive, to the cloud, to a backup program.  Back up your data to as many places as you think it is going to take to make sure you don't lose it.  The computer is NOT going to take care of your data for you.  Do not trust your computer. ========================================================== When you see a Post that helps you,Inspires you, provides fresh insight,Or teaches you something new,Click the "Thumbs Up" on that Post. Click my Answer Accept as Solution to help others find Answers.

obviously I don't have the recovery manager and I also dont have the windows instalation disc, that's why I made a copy in a USB and tryed to install it that way.  The screen shows a Windows BCD store issue. That should'nt be a big issue to resolve
So, the only solution is to order a recovery disc from HP and then I install the HP recory manager?  It is the best solution.
by this way after doing that can I  install the windows 7? You can always install Windows 7 as log as you have the twenty five character license activation key.
Once you have the recovery usb media you can put your notebook back into the state it was in when you removed it from the box whenever there is a serious issue. If Windows 7 was the OS it was delivered with then running the recovery manager and performing a factory image recovery will reinstall Windows 7 and the recovery partition.
Do yourself the favor of ordering the usb recovery media instead of a recovery disk set. USB recovery media is durable, unlike a recovery disk set, which can be damaged by a simple scratch on the label side.

I splitted original Hard Disk Partition in three partitions.  I formatted those two not containing O.S.  Now I want to format the partition containing the O.S.
      1)  If I choose "Recovery System", will it format all three partitions?  Or will it format the partition I choose to?
      2)  I tryed "Recovery System", but it failed.  What can I do?
2.1)  I made Recovery DVDs when first used the PC.  It loads but it never runs.  It's like theres no AutoRun, and there's no ".exe" to execute when I open the first DVD Recovery via Windows Explorer.  What am I missing?
2.2)  I tryed Recovery System via Recovery Manager.  System shuts down and starts reiniciating but it gives the following message "Windows Boot Manger: Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware of software change might be the problem.  Status: 0xc000025.  The boot selection failed because a required device is inacessible".  What can I do?
         Regards,

I tested the Hard Drive and it passed 100% ok.
I tested the Memory and it passed 100% ok.
My PC runs a Win 7 Home Premium.
I've just run a Win 7 Ultimate CD Installation.  It formatted the System Partition, but I couldn't get Win 7 installed because when I filled in my Product Key it said the Product Key wasn't right.  Is it because Product Key for Win 7 Home Premium wouldn't work on a Win 7 Ultimate installation?
I hoped the Hard Drive would be ok after it had been formatted while I tryed Win 7 Ultimate installation.  So I tryed once again to boot with HP Recovery Disc.  It stopped at 23% once again.  Until 23% there are all noises that get me thinking PC is running ok.  When it get up to 23% all noises just stop.
    Any ideias?
    And thanks once again.

The above requested information can be found on the bottom of the computer, inside the battery compartment, or on the BIOS startup/setup screen. Please do not include the serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.
Please use Windows "System Image Backup" utility to create an exact image of the Windows 8.1 partition as it currently is, on an external hard drive. You may also need to create a Windows "repair" disc. If your computer developes issues or you need to replace the hard drive, all you have to do is "restore" the image to the computer. Please see Windows 8.1 Tip: Use System Image Backup for instructions on creating and restoring a "Windows - System Image Backup."

  • Recovery to Windows Vista problem for my Satellite A200-10X

My computer was working OK. To speed it up, I decided to reformat the hard disk using the recovery DVD provided by Toshiba. The recovery failed. I have tried many many ways but keep having the same problem i.e. the process goes into a loop.
What happens can be summarized as follows: When I power-on the computer using the recovery DVD in disk drive, the computer goes into loading the windows files and then formats the hard disk, but stops about 18% through the progress. Everytime this happens the problem starts at (X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe) where it is at ImageX Tools for Windows; and mentions that C:Program Files\Toshiba\HD2Go\sea160s_HD.wmv........WimCopyF ileEx failed. Other errors are: Error restoring image; The Drive is not ready; and ERROR: ImageX could not apply VISTA E:\05006XSP.swm Index 2 from ODD to C:\!; press any Key......And the screen goes white. There is another screen window when ithis happens, which says Administrator: X:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe open in DOS. After closing this window the Screen goes blank and the computer for while and then opens in a window called Windows Boot Manager, and says that windows failed to start, winload could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
If I try booting from the recovery HDD, there is no success. I tried powering the computer while pressing C, or pressing 0(zero) or F8, but no success. I can not go to the page where I can repair the HDD as mentioned in the users manual.
I even tried loading an old version of XP, which got loaded but would not recognize the USBs, or sounds, or DVD drive, etc.
    Please help.

    Hi!
Can you try a Windows XP installation disk with SP2? I think its normal after using a Microsoft installation disk and the sound will not be recognized because you need all drivers from the Toshiba website.
What you can also do is to use Microsoft installation disk, format the HDD and then use the recovery disk.
In my opinion this could be caused of a faulty recovery DVD or a faulty HDD/RAM. The hardware you can test with the Drive Fitness Test and Memtest86 (use Google for download links, all its freeware).

I just wanted to tell you of a recent experience I had when contacting HP support
I called them yesterday with what I considered to be a simple question I found out that this question in their eyes was not that simple
the question was how do I set Up a password recovery flash drive in Windows 8.
the the person from HP said that he would need to check and would I please give him a minute to do so, when he came back he said that hp computers did not have this option.
I said to him how could this be as windows 8 says you can do this I also said that in windows vista and windows 7 you could do this and Why Would windows 8 Be any different he said he didn't know But this was not an option available hp in windows 8 he also stated
if I were to forget my password would be to install my operating system again. I said to him that it seemed unreasonable that I would have to reinstall my os just to recover my password and the must be a simpler option than that. he said no that would be my only option if I were to ever forget my password. I then said to him I did not believe the information he was giving me was accurate and was he 100% sure of the information he was giving me, he said yes and that he would send me an e-mail giving me step by step instructions. I said okay bye, I did not believe what he was telling me so I went online and found out in about 2 minutes all we needed to do was set this up via the settings screen and user account where it give you the option to make a password recovery usb flash drive I understand that they cannot possibly know everything but I feel if they don't know they should be willing to tell you that they don't know and passed you on to someone who does rather Than making you spend hours reinstalling an operating system that you don't need to. it also seems to me outsourcing technical support to third world countries like in this case india where they may not have a full grasp of some of the finer subtletys of the english language and company like hp dell toshiba and many others need to return technical support to the countrys in which the computers are sold and 1 other thing why is it that we no longer get a set of recovery cds with new computer and have to make a set ourselves when so often in the process of making them some write error happens and you only find out that is there is a problem with them when you come to use them I know companies need to make a profit on the sale of the computers but surely there is enough profit margin for them still to supplie you with the recovery media you need

    Hi,
I afraid the pritner is not supported on Windows 8:

You will not be able to use any other alternative driver with the printer as there are no drivers to allow the PC to communicate with the printer through a USB connection..

  • Software for Power Switch Control and One Key Recovery for Windows 8?

Hi. I have recently upgraded to windows 8 with a clean install. I was wondering if there is software to get the power switch control software back so I can set it to auto, turbo or cool because without it I think using the switch is useless. I also would like to know if there is a way to get one key recovery back.

I can't use the One Key Recovery of my Y2P anymore, as I decreased the size of the C partition in favour of increasing D:\Data
    OKR won't even start anymore...
Any chance to get OKR working again if I make these partitions the same sizes?
Who has the exact partition sizes in MB of the Y2P 20266 with Samsung PM851 256 GB SSD?
    0 1 MB  NO_NAME unallocated
    1 1000 MB  WINRE_DRV NTFS
    2 260 MB  SYSTEM_DRV  FAT32 (EFI)
    3 1000 MB  LRS_ESP FAT32
    4 128 MB  NO_NAME Other
    5 ? GB  C:\Windows8 NTFS
    6 ? GB  D:\Data NTFS
    7 14135 MB  PBR_DRV NTFS Recovery
    8 327 kB  NO_NAME Unallocated
Data is backupped daily and I already have a full system backup together with a bootable USB stick that has been tested.
But I like to make sure I can reinstall Windows in the future..
