I understand you're unable to perform a system recovery on your notebook.
Can you tell me if you are using the built in recovery drive or the recovery DVDs?
Try running a test on the HDD to make sure the hard disk condition is good. You can see how to do this here:

It would also help to know which notebook you have and which operating system you are using. I recently installed the Windows 7 RC to give it a go but I've found that it kills my battery life so I decided to go back to vista, however when I press the blue button on start up to access the recovery console I just get a screen that asks me if I want to enter the BIOS or choose another boot location... I used the upgrade option in Windows 7 so I don't see how I could have deleted the partition with the recovery console...
Is it posible for me to restore my tablet to it's factory settings?

The install of Win 7 removes the TVT boot manager applet and sets the master boot record to Win 7 partition only.
The Lenovo supported method of restoring your preload would be thru the use of Recovery CD's.
You might be able to change the bootable partition from the win 7 partition to the recovery partition, thru some
3rd party apps.

if it's restarting directly into an error, you can try troubleshooting (might be painful) or re-install windows with boot camp

ValentinT, welcome to the forum.
There are no drivers available for Windows 8. I suggest checking in the Control Panel/Sound/Recording to assure that your microphone is selected. It seems that the Sound is one area that gets changed when updating to Win 8.1. At least, this is what happened to me.

URGENT: I lost the Lion Partition after repairing the Windows 7 partition
I have recent bought a new Macbook Pro and then I start doing all the necessary setup. This is the first time I do such setup with bootcamp myself anyway.
1st: normal MacOS setup, the Lion version has been setup perfectly.
2nd: run the bootcamp and setup the Windows 7, done perfectly as well.
3rd: try to partition and resize the harddrive with the Lion installed and create 2 new FAT partitions (now 4 partitions in total: 1 for Lion, Journaled, 1 for Windows 7 in NTFS, 2 for file sharing purposes in FAT). See if I can have better partitioning to do necessary organisations.
4th: When I want to restart in Windows to see if the newly created 2 FAT partitions can be read in Windows environment and can function norally, the Windows setup does not show at the start up page when I hold the "Option" key during the startup. I then try to restart again, still no such partition but boot directly to Lion.
5th: I tried to repair the Windows 7 with the start up disc and then it worked. I can also see the 2 newly partitioned FAT drive work normally.
6th: When I want to restart in Lion, I cannot boot the Lion OS and I cannot find the start up icon on the startup page even with me holding the "Option" Key.
7th: "MacOS Installation Utility" appears. I tried to repair but cannot as I have neither the Lion setup disc with me (coz the Lion has been pre-installed) nor a time machine backup/ any other backup image to load from.
8th: Tried to "erase and install a new copy of Lion", the partition where the Lion has been previously installed cannot be shown, now indicate itself as "freespace" and not able to be selected for my "erase and reinstall" process.
9th: so I go to 2 other FAT drives to do as the instructions to try "erase" and hope the "reinstall" process can be started. But the Disk Utility ends up saying the drive cannot be dismounted/ cannot verfy...
At the end of the many tries, I tried to shut the computer down and restart again, hopefully something will work still.... the startup page now shows a disk image with ?, I guess NO OPERATION system/ drive detected for booting. So I got a piece of metals without any use now...

In Windows, go to Control Panel -> System. Do you see a Boot Camp option? If you do not, please download BC drivers as appropriate for you specific Mac year/model System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support
and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers.

I have an application which has multiple windows. From mainwindow button click event I am closing the child form of the application. The child window is opened after a successful socket, serial or gateway connection attempt, after which the application
do work with some threads and while clicking on a button on mainwindow I am closing this child window after disconnecting the respective connection mode. But after the close event the child window background gets black and it remains open unless and until
I just do a minimize and maximize the application. Please help me on this to get this issue fixed.

Well the details are rather going to depend on what it's doing.
It's a very open ended question really.
But...
Your options include.

Where DoSomething is a method.
You can also have inline code of course instead of a method.
Whilst on a different thread to the UI you can't update UI objects.
You'll get a thread affinity error message if you try.
That means you either return your results to the ui thread and process them there ( particularly convenient with async await ).
Or you update something which doesn't have thread affinity.
An observablecollection bound to an itemssource doesn't have thread affinity eg.
You do need to raise property changed at the end of your processing with that option because it notifies collectionchanged on the wrong thread and the UI won't know it changed.
Or you can dispathcher.begininvoke to get back to the UI thread.
All depends what you're doing but hopefully one of those options there will suit you.

After server target is changed via group policy, when user login (roaming profile)first time, the the new server target has not been applied, instead it's pointing to the old folder redirection path.
But if we reset the windows profile (roaming ), the new folder redirection works, can you please specify a solutions that the new folder redirection works when the user login for the first time. so it reduce the time on resetting users profile.

Yes - if you change redirection targets, FR moves content from old to
new, and only if this ends sucessfully, it will update the redirection
target.
Make the old redirection target accessible to the user and you'll be fine.

Backend BSP session not closing on server after closing the window

Hi All,
We have SAP EP (7.0 SP21) and there is a BSP transaction ivew (Interaction Center ) intergrated in the portal. The issue is when the user performs any transactions inside the BSP and then closes the browser, session remains on the server till the timeout. Is there a way to end those sessions on server after closing the browser immediately?
Portal domain : xx.mycomp.com
ABAP system domain :mycom.com
Should the domains be same for the DSM of Portal to work or is there any solution that can be considered.

These are the main issues that can cause issues with DSM:
JavaScript Origin Policy:
Scripting
between different domains is not allowed because of “JavaScript origin policy”.
Also
communication between mixed protocols (http\https) is forbidden.
Therefore
the portal server and the content server must be on the same domain and must
use the same protocol.

In general, the 2 domains should be the same.
xxx.mycomp.com, meaning that first part of the url can change but what comes after should be the same domain.

JButton disappear after minimizing the window

I am working on a project where user can create JButton dynamically using drag-and-drop. Now the issue is that when I minimize the window and then maximize it, the dynamically created JButton disappear whereas the static ones remain as it is. Is there a way by which I can solve the issue of the dynamically created buttons.

Reinstallation of music after reformatting the HD and up-grading to Tiger

I have 142 GB of music on an external HD with which iTunes 6 has worked fine for ages. Prior to upgrading to Tiger I made a copy of all the iTunes folders (including the library files) onto the same external HD.
During the Tiger upgrade I was forced to reformat the HD and so now I'm trying to get iTunes 6 (same version) to recognise the music files. I've copied the backed-up versions of "iTunes Music Library.xml" and "iTunes Library" back to User/Music/iTunes and under Preferences/Advanced, have re-directed the iTunes Music Location to the External HD/iTunes/iTunes Music that I had previously been using without any problem.
On running iTunes, whilst all my Playlists and Smart Playlists are showing (the library files seem OK), the tracks all have the dreaded "!" next to each one.
As I can't copy the music files back from the external HD to the internal HD - too large - I'm really stuck as to how move forward.
Could anyone please assist...

You might try to do the following:
Copy your "iTunes Music Library.xml" to your Desktop and rename it to thismayhelp.xml
Open this file with a editor and replace all occurencies of the old path (file://localhost/Users/YourUserName/Music/iTunes/iTunes%20Music/) to your tracks with the new one.
Save that copy
Move "iTunes Library" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" to your Desktop.
Launch iTunes - as the 2 mentioned files are missing in your "iTunes" folder, iTunes will create fresh ones.
There will no tracks show up in iTunes - Now from iTunes Menu File select "Import" and choose the edited copy of "iTunes Music Library.xml"

Secmon slow to update after resizing the window

I never noticed this in 2.1. In 2.2 SecMon, when I resize the security monitor window, it appears to hang. The resizing of the window takes a long time to update.
Can any one on the list please explain why?

I'm afraid that all your personal data including the bookmarks in the Firefox profile folder is lost if you didn't create a backup before reformatting the computer or in the past.

Hello everyone,
after a nearly two years of running, my winxp installation needs a cleanup so i'm planning on formatting the hard drive and installing xp
So i wanted to know what to do in order to backup the iTunes/iPhone sync
i'm guessing there's a procedure to follow ..
some particular files/folders to backup and paste after reinstalling xp .. ?

If you back up your My Documents folder you will save all of your music plus any other files that you may have created on the computer before the reformat. Note that the iPhone is NOT a backup device; you cannot use it to transfer music between computers or from the computer before reformatting to after.
Some additional advice: DON'T reformat your current disk. Buy a new hard drive and install XP on it. Get a USB enclosure for the old drive so you can easily copy your important data to the new drive. And you will still have it in case of disaster.
BTW, my laptop has been running for 5 years now and I've never had to reformat it. Why do you think you need to?
