Recovery incomplete

envy j001tx
I performed a disk recovery (with disks made myself) to wipe the hard drive. Got to disk 6 of 6 when HP Recovery Manager window appeared with following error message when I click the Details button:

The process will cause CTO panic because the image might not be normal...
There are 3 options, Save Log, Details, Retry. When I try 'Retry' it asks for recovery media. I've put my recovery disk 6 and disk 1 in, but nothing happens. Oddly enough, the command prompt (cmd.exe) is open at this point. Now whenever I restart the laptop it goes to the same restoration error screen with the command prompt open and minimized in the lower left hand corner.
Pressing F10 (BIOS Setup) or F11 (System Recovery) after starting doesn't do anything, it just goes straight the the Restoration Incomplete message. Pressing Esc during start goes to the Startup menu, but pressing F10 or F11 there just does the same thing. F2 System Diagnostics works. I ran quick memory check, everything passed. I ran the long hard drive check. Overall it passed, and each one passed except for optimized dst it said 'not available'. When I choose BIOS Management from Diagnostics UEFI, and try either a BIOS Update or BIOS Rollback, I get 'The selected BIOS image was not available.' My system's BIOS ID is F.23. When I try to select a BIOS Image to apply, I've clicked through the file trees and there's nothing there to choose.
I tried recovering the BIOS pressing Windows and b key when starting. The screen stayed blank and the caps lock light kept flashing but nothing happened. The screen just stayed blank and no bios update screen appeared.
Did my BIOS become corrupted during the system restoration from disk? I've been in contact with HP tech support and am under warranty. They said if I passed all my diagnostic tests they would send recovery disks, but I'm not sure if that will even work since I can't even get into BIOS. Should I try to restore the BIOS from a USB flash drive? Any other suggestions or options? I'll probably go ahead and have the HP recovery disks sent, just in case.
Thanks. My fourth HP laptop and the first time any of this has happened.

Try this which has worked for many. Enter BIOS and change the date to 1/01/2012. Save & Exit. Boot from Recovery Discs again and let it run throught the process. If it makes it to the first attempt to reboot- enter BIOS again and ensure date is still set. If not change it to 2012 again. If it is let boot resume.

    It appears that you did not manage to create a partition correctly.
    The first thing to try is the Windows repair disk, if you made one before you began your partitioning adventure. This will be an attemp to repair the BCD.  If you don't have access to a Windows repair disk,then it may be time  to use your recovery disk set or USB recovery  media.
    I do hope that you made external copies of whatever you had saved on your notebook before playing around with partitioning utilities.

    Try changing the date in BIOS to 1/01/2012. Save & Exit. Boot from Recovery and let it run through the process- but on the first reboot it initiates enter BIOS to ensure date is still modified. If so let Recovery resume-if not change it again then resume.

  • Recovery Incomplete, cannot get any further than insert media

    I tried to perorm a system refresh on my windows 8 hp notebook m7-j020dx. a full system backup was perfromed just prior to the refresh just in case.  once the refresh finished the laptop restarted one last time and a screen popped up stating restoration implete.
    The list of errors are as followed
    [6:58:36.74] ChkErrBB.CMD :     Detect some error during PININST_BBV.
    [6:58:36.74] ChkErrBB.CMD :     Check c:\system.sav\Logs\BurnBootWarn.log
    [6:58:36.76] ChkErrBB.CMD :     or, check c:\system.sav\Logs\BurnBootMerge.log
    [6:58:36.77] --------------------------------------------------
    [6:58:36.77] Critical error condition was detected at BBV1...
      First of all I did not was to do a system restore just a system refresh.  Second on the popup screen it says the restration did not complete.  Please select one of the following buttons:
    save log      details     Retry
    I saved the log, I looked at the details but, when I click on Retry a new screen pops up that says Insert recovery Media. Unfortunately, I cannot get passed that point. I can hear the CD drive spin up and try to read in cd inside but nothing else.
    I didn't remove the 6th disk but, it is not reading. I opened the CD drive and tried the 1st disk, still nothing is happening. I then tried the rest of the CD's 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th. Then, i tried hard booting the Notebook and agian the same screen came up and the same problem occurs.
    I have also gone into bios and went through every possible system check and they all came back passed. (note; the only Thing I have done to the notebook hardware wise was have a samsung 840 series 250GB 840 series SSD professionally installed and had the information on the origional HDD migrated onto the SSD using the provided samsung migration software.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey @Visshnu_Raja ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
    I understand you're unable to perform a system recovery on your notebook.
    Can you tell me if you are using the built in recovery drive or the recovery DVDs?
    Try running a test on the HDD to make sure the hard disk condition is good. You can see how to do this here:
    Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8)
    Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7, Vista)
    It would also help to know which notebook you have and which operating system you are using. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?

  • ORACLE8: RECOVERY MANAGER 사용 방법(RMAN)

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 1997-11-17
    Oracle 8 NEW : Recovery manager 란 ?
    ====================================
    - 소개
    Oracle 8 은 새로운 backup와 recovery 방법인 Recovery manager 를 제공한다.
    Recovery manager(이하 RMAN) 는 backup,restore,recover process를 관리하는
    tool 이다. Oracle Enterprise Manager 를 통해 GUI mode 로 가능하고,
    rman 이라는 command line interface 를 함께 제공한다.
    특히, OS device control 기능이 보완 되었기 때문에, 현재 backup catalog 를
    유지하고, 이 정보를 이용해 OS level 에서 file 을 auto-restore 해 주기
    때문에, database recovery 전에 file 을 manual 하게 restore 할 필요가
    없어졌다.
    Incremental backup 을 제공하고, backup 이나 restore 중에 current block
    detection 을 해 주며(v$backup_corruption, v$copy_corruption 또는 alert
    log 에 report), Rman 작업시에 parallelization 을 제공하며, open database
    backup 동안 특별한 redo 를 발생하지 않는다.
    - 구조
    Recovery
    manager in OEM(oracle
              enterprise      ---> Database
              manager) <---     (catalog)
    or RMAN
         /| |
         | |/
    DATABASE     ---> OS
    (target to backup) <--- Device
    - 구성 요소 설명
    1) recovery manager
    Command 를 해석하고, backup, restore, recover 를 실행하기 위해 target
    database 로 command 를 전달한다. recovery catalog 를 update 한다. 실행
    과정을 조정, 모니터링 한다.
    2) Target database
    backup,restore,recovery action 이 수행될 데이타베이스
    3) Recovery Catalog
    Information 저장장소. 즉, target database 의 물리적 스키마, datafile 과
    archivelog 의 backup sets 과 pieces, backup script 등을 포함하고 있음.
    rman 작업시 recovery catalog 정보를 이용한다.
    4) channel
    allocation channel 은 target database 의 backup,restore,recover 에 대한
    server process 초기화를 한다. 즉, 이 channel 은 disk 를 포함 기타 OS
    device 를 지정하게 되며, 이 갯수에 따라 parallelization 의 degree 가 결정
    된다.
    - recovery catalog 를 사용할 것인지를 결정하기
    catalog 없이 RMAN 을 사용할 때의 단점은 recovery catalog 의 overhead 가
    없는 대신, Point-In-Time recovery 를 쉽게 할 수 없다. 또한, control file
    손상시에 recovery 할 수 없고, stored script 를 사용할 수 없다.
    (datafile 이 20개 이상일 경우에는 recovery catalog 사용을 권장한다.)
    - Setup
    가. Recovery catalog 생성
    1. Backup(target) db 외의 별도의 db 생성 (8.0.3 이상)
    2. catalog DB 에 분리된 tablespace 생성
    create tablespace rcvcat datafile '/oracle/rcvcat/rcvcat01.dbf'
    size 20 M;
    3. catalog 의 owner 생성과 권한부여
         create user rman identified by rman
         temporary tablespace temp
         default tablespace rcvcat;
         grant dba,connect,resource,recovery_catalog_owner to rman;
    4. catalog 저장에 필요한 object 생성
         cd $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin
         sqlplus rman/rman
         @catrman
    나. Recovery manager 기동
    1. recovery catalog DB 를 사용하는 경우
    rman target \"system/manager\" rcvcat \"rman/rman@orabeta1\"
    (orabeta1 은 catalog DB 로 접속하는 tnsname 입니다.
    즉, sqlplus rman/rman@orabeta1 하면, catalog db 와 접속되어야 합니다.)
    2. recovery catalog DB 를 사용하지 않는 경우
    rman target system/manager@target nocatalog
    위 경우 모두, target database 를 catalog 에 등록해야 한다.
    RMAN> register database;
    다. Backup 시작
    - Backup 은 database 가 open 또는 close(close 후에는 반드시 mount
    상태이어야 한다)
    - Backup 의 단위
         full database
         tablespace
         datafile
         control file
         archived logs
    - Backup 의 예
    --full database
    run {
    allocate channel dev1 type disk;
    allocate channel dev2 type disk;
    backup full filesperset 2
    (database format '/user7/ora8/backup.%n_%p') ;
    release channel dev1;
    release channel dev2;
    -- tablespace
    run {
    allocate channel dev_1 type disk ;
    backup incremental level 0
    filesperset 1
    (tablespace system channel dev_1 format '/vol312/net8%d_%u');
    release channel dev_1;
    -- datafile
    run{
    allocate channel dev1 type disk;
    copy datafile "/vo3/orabeta6/backup/copy_tools.dbf"
    to "/vo3/orabeta6/oradata/orabeta6/tools01.dbf"
    tag "org_tools";
    release channel dev1;
    -- archived logs
    create script beta_arch_full {
    allocate channel dev1 type disk;
    allocate channel dev2 type disk;
    backup full filesperset 10
    (archivelog all delete input
    format '/vo3/orabeta6/backup/beta_arch.%s_%p') ;
    release channel dev1;
    release channel dev2;
    -- backup to tape
    run {
    allocate channel t1 type 'sbt_tape';
    backup
    format 'dbfull_sunday_s%s_t%t'
    tag 'Sunday full backup'
    (database);
    라. Restore
    - Backup 으로 부터 원래 위치로 복원
    - Archive log file 은 manual 하게 restore 할 수도 있고, 필요하다면
    recovery 시 자동으로 restore 된다.
    restore (archivelog all| like <filename | <archivelog range>);
    - restore 명령
    database : restore (database);
    tablespace : restore (tablespace <name>,...,<name>);
    datafile : restore (datafile <name>,...,<name>);
    control file : restore control file to location;
    - recovery 시에 database 는 어떤 상태에 있어야 하는가 ?
    1) control file restore - not mount
         SVRMGRL> startup nomount
    2) whole database, or system tablespace - not open
         SVRMGRL> startup mount
    3) tablespace or datafile - open but tablespace or datafile offline
         SVRMGRL> alter tablespace user_data offline temporary;
         SVRMGRL> alter database datafile '/oracle/file/user_data1.dbf'           offline;
    마, Recovery
    - Recoervy 는 file restore 후의 과정이다.
    1) Archive log mode : complete recovery, incomplete recovery 가 가능하다
    2) No archive log mode : consistent whole database backup 으로 부터
    restore 하는 것이 유일한 option 이다.
    - whole database recovery 의 예
    svrmgrl
    connect internal
    shutdown abort
    startup mount
    rman target \"system/manager\" rcvcat \"rman/rman@orabeta1\"
    run {
    allocate channel dev1 type disk;
    allocate channel dev2 type disk;
    restore database;
    recover database;
    release channel dev1;
    release channel dev2;
    or
    run {
    allocate channel dev1 type disk;
    allocate channel dev2 type disk;
    restore tablespace 'SYSTEM';
    restore tablespace 'USERS';
    recover tablespace 'SYSTEM';
    recover tablespace 'USERS';
    sql "alter database open ";
    release channel dev1;
    release channel dev2;
    - datafile 하나가 사용할 수 없을 경우의 recovery
    가정) full backup set 이 있을 경우
    ORA-01157: cannot identify data file 3 - file not found
    ORA-01110: data file 3: '/user7/ora8/oradata/ORA8/temp01.dbf'
    SVRMGR> startup mount
    rman target \"system/manager\" rcvcat \"rman/rman@orabeta1\"
    RMAN> run {
    allocate channel dev1 type disk;
    restore database;
    recover database;
    release channel dev1;
    };

    Check the TSM logs for errors, the error stack here doesn't show any useful information (only informational messages and an undefined exit code). This is an 8i problem, later releases transfer much better messages from the media management software.

  • New SSD, made recovery USB but no luck

    Whole process goes without a glitch. Copies files from media to hard disc. Restarts. Begin installing drivers. Restarts again. Gets to Administrator login screen then says Recovery Incomplete with a choice of Save Log, Details and Retry.  Been trying this over and over and getting the same results. DV7-7338ea, Windows 8 OEM, Recovery Media on 32gb USB flash drive.
    Any ideas on what to do here?  My next route is to order the recovery discs but not willing to spend £30+ on media that will do the same thing.
    Cheers in advance.

  • My notebook crashed before completing factory recovery

    Done factory reset off recovery discs but when it was supposed to restart and reload from files screen went blue with fatal system error now it says recovery incomplete and does not recognise recovery disc 1. Help

    Hello SandyAdams1966,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
    It appears that during a system recovery the computer crashed and that now you cannot continue with the process. I will try to help you with this.
    As you didn't mention the operating system I will provide you two documents.
    Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
    Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8)
    The step that you want to try is "recovery from the startup screen(during system boot)", this may allow you to do the system recovery without the disk's.
    Please let me know how it goes. Thank you for posting on HP forums.

  • Envy 6m restoration incomplete message

    I have searched and I have tried several options but to no avail.  Since buying the PC in March of last year we have had several 'blue screens of death' and the recovery USB has worked every time. We don't know why it keeps freezing, and now it has rejected the recovery.  We go back to factory specs and it goes all the way through the process, the top message says 'recovery complete' and right below it says 'recovery incomplete'.  I've changed the bios to Legacy hoping it will let it restore that way.  It refuses to let it start from Windows 7 disk ( I know why now...) and I can't find any way to 'Format C'.  Microsoft forums say it is a Norton glitch, but there is no way to access that to turn off Norton or remove it from the recovery that I know of.  Is there a way to use another pc to get into the USB root and remove norton all together from the recovery?  I really don't want to pay for recovery disks to recover an issue that is Microsofts fault...  PS calling the HP hotline did no good... they said they wanted 399$ to take control of the other pc and reprogram the USB... gosh, if I had that much to burn I'd go buy a surface or something cheap, and I bet it would work better than the Envy 6 with win8....  I will update here if changing Legacy in bios worked... this still doesn't fix the issue of the constant freezing to blue screen...or explain it... Thank you for all your help.

    Well for anyone who wants to know... The bios trick and sarting from start options and USB recovery worked... in the recovery norton is automatic... and according to the microsoft post I read it may be the reason for the blue screen of death.  We will try and rip it out to the core, or at least turn off the tamper protection... any suggestions for that is appreciated...

  • Please help! Recovery on my ENVY 4-1101SA is not completing

    I have spent all day googling and searching forums and nobody seems to be having the same problem as me - so I am turning here to the community perhaps for some insight...?
    My new HP ENVY 4-1101SA (with hybrid SSD/HDD drive) came with the usual preinstalled stuff that I wanted rid of so as per my usual routine, first thing I do is create recovery media (USB stick) and recover to minimised image.
    Problem is that the first time I did this the installation terminated after an hour or so as "incomplete" - with three options, Save / Details / Retry.  I tried to "retry" but regardless of whether i left the flash drive in, it would ask me to "insert recovery media."  I was forced to reboot the machine but in doing so I can now only get back to the window saying "recovery incomplete" with those three buttons Save/Details/Retry.
    I tried F9 > selecting USB and that gets me back to the recovery manager window where I can choose minimum image or full factory etc.
    So I started googling on my other machine (the one I am on now) and found the suggestion that I open the recovery manager from the USB stick, go to computer checkup and select "open command prompt" then in diskpart start messing about deleting volumes.
    I tried this, and as far as I can tell I have deleted all the volumes from disk 0 (the 500GB hard drive) and disk 1 (the 32GB SSD).  However recovery - using any of the schemas - fails with the same error.
    SO my question to the community is - please, does anyone more technically-competent know if there anything else I can try?
    Thanks for the help (in advance!)
    James

    Hmm... some views but no responses yet.
    Here's what I have tried:
    - F10-F9 restore BIOS to factory default
    - Ensuring WIFI is on after every restart during recovery
    - Open command prompt from recovery manager - DISKPART, select disk 0, clean all THEN select disk 1, clean all
    (after that both disks showed No Volumes when I did DETAIL DISK
    I have ordered some replacement disks from HP for £33 in case my flash drve is faulty

  • My Catalog - "Can't open Database" error

    After being able to open Photoshop Album Starter Edition successfully and without incident several months ago, one day I received this error:
    "Problem opening the Catalog named "My Catalog". Another user or application may have the catalog open, or one or more files may be missing, out of date, or damaged. [Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access 97 Driver] can't open database 'unknown'. It may not be a database that your application recognizes or the file may be corrupt. Attempt to compact and recover this catalog then try again? - OK or Cancel"
    If I choose OK, then I get another error:
    "Catalog Recovery Incomplete - A problem was encountered during catalog recovery. Your catalog may be ok, but if you experience problems with it that can't be resolved through the Reover Catalog option or restarting your computer system you may need to restore this catalog from a backup. - OK"
    That goes to a 3rd error message:
    "Unable to open "My Catalog because it is damaged. Please choose: Open existing or Create a new catalog named My Catalog-1.psa"
    If I choose existing, it goes to the folder where My Catalog is stored, I can click it, and then I receive the first message. If I choose create a new catalog, it does, then gives me the first error message. PSA SE never opens, but the photo downloader appears in my Task bar Notification area, and I can Launch, Enable/Disable or Exit that program. If I try to acquire a photo, I end up with the same first error message.
    I've seen the other threads that address what may be close to this issue, and I've done all the fixes suggested, short of reinstalling WindowsXP, which I'd rather avoid, but I've had no luck - I still get the exact same error messages.
    I am using Office 97, including Access, Word, Excel, etc. but I'm not having any issues with those. I'm also using Pagemaker 7.0 and no issues there related to a catalog or database. I did have at one time a trial copy of Illustrator, and this problem started occurring after that trial was expired. I've since uninstalled Illustrator, done all the fixes suggested here, deleted the My Catalog files, restarted, uninstalled and re-installed PSA SE3.2, and still it cannot 'see' My Catalog.
    Any other suggestions (besides upgrading to Office-this decade, which I would love, but employer hasn't made that leap yet.)? TIA
    Tracey

    No, no multiple users on this machine, or on that application. Both are located on the C: drive of a computer with intranet and internet access.
    Could it have anything to do with the application Microsoft Access? [Microsoft ODBC Access97 driver] is named in the first error message. Access97 was always on this computer, but it wasn't actually put into use until about 6-8 months ago, and it was sometime after I started using it that I could no longer open PSA-SE. Connection? Fixable?

  • Standard Edition One vs. Enterprise Edition capabilities

    Forgive me if this seems too obvious a question.
    I have been given guidance by my corporate Help and support team to purchase OEE.
    I have a one server application, with 1-CPU, hoping to use a server CPU license (not named user) for about 300-400 users on system at peak times.
    I have been told I need OEE to get
    1. point-in-time recovery
    2. online reindexing (index reorg?)
    3. Cross platform replication. Actually our replication from an IBM AIX server Oracle instance to a Window server Oracle instance will be done with standard snapshots.
    All this seems to be within the capabilities of OSEO.
    Given my need, I think OEE is a bit much. We will not be implementing clusters or using the "high end" option packages that we could plug into OEE.
    So on the three (3) points I mention above, can someone give me a solid yes/no OSEO can or can't? I would love to have FACTS.
    Thanks.

    I have been given guidance by my corporate Help and
    support team to purchase OEE.What input did you provide to the team for them to provide that advice?
    I have a one server application, with 1-CPU, hopingOracle counts sockets, adding a core factor to come up to Oracle processors for licensing. This is a "private" discussion between you and your sales contact within oracle.
    to use a server CPU license (not named user) for
    about 300-400 users on system at peak times.Probably a processor based license will be more beneficial.
    >
    I have been told I need OEE to get
    1. point-in-time recovery"Incomplete" recovery is one of the basic features in Oracle, see
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/backrec.htm#i1006524
    However, TSPITR is a EE only feature.
    2. online reindexing (index reorg?)In 9i and 10g this is a EE only feature.
    3. Cross platform replication. Actually our
    replication from an IBM AIX server Oracle instance to
    a Window server Oracle instance will be done with
    standard snapshots.Not sure what kind of replication you want. Maybe this is more of a support question than feature set or licensing.
    So on the three (3) points I mention above, can
    someone give me a solid yes/no OSEO can or can't? I
    would love to have FACTS.Sorry, I cant give you this and I think only Oracle reps can, not some online forum. Also, I must admit that my experience is based mainly on EE, so I've not been exposed to some of the limitations that SE might bring.

  • Brand new Spectre XT Touchsmart 15t-4000 unable to recover

    I just received my brand new Spectre XT Touchsmart 15t-4000 Product # A9G16AV a couple of weeks ago. It has Windows 8 Pro installed. I ended up doing a factory restore from the SSD after a couple of days and it worked fine.
    I purchased a special 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive to create my recovery media 2 days ago. I created the recovery media and it verified the media successfuly. I wanted to verify that it actually worked so I would have it available in case of emergency. It had 3 options for recovery I first chose minimal install and after about 30 minutes it said recovery incomplete and it would say that everytime I rebooted. Then I chose to recover to factory condition. I came up with the same error. I finally chose to do a complete factory reset. I got the same error, but it went to the Desktop. I could not go to metro or anything, it did not complete the install. I was going to restore it from the SSD again, but had noticed that my recovery partion was erased along with all the other partitions it had when I received my computer. I contacted HP support on the phone which used 2 hours of my cell minutes. The Ticket # for this case is [Personal Information Removed]. I tested my SSD and it is fine. I ended up with 2 options. 1. Send my computer to HP for them to restore my system. 2. Have Recovery media sent to me. Option 1 is out, my computer is brand new & I am not shipping it anywhere. Option 2 was OK, but they said they could not send me a USB recovery drive because they did not have those. I was told they could send me Recovery DVD's. I don't have a DVD drive and did not want to buy one as I just spent $1700.00 on this computer. The tech said he would call me back yesterday and see if there was anything else they could do, he never called. He did not call today either. I tried to call him and it is impossible to call and get a specefic person. I decided today I would go ahead and buy a USB DVD Burner and just have them send me the recovery disk so I ordered one from HP and it will be here next week. In the mean time I don't know how to get the Recovery DVD's sent to me that I was told was an option. I keep getting the run around. All I want is for my computer to be back like it was when I first got it a couple of weeks ago. Right now I cannot even use it.
    I also have the Total Care 3 year accidental damage in home service for this laptop. Can anyone of you experts help me? I would greatly appreciate it!
    Michael

    Hello,
    I see your resolved the recovery issue by turning the date back to 2012 in the BIOS.
    We will soon have new recovery media available to resolve this.
    We will also have a softpaq available that will fix teh Recovery from F11
    thanks!
    Send me a PM about the Recovery Media - that was not sent to you
