Recovery knows my wi-fi credentials???

I bought a new Mac mini last week. For various reasons I have decided to return it and wiped the primary partition using the 7-pass overwrite. I rebooted to the recovery HD and was shocked when it bypassed the actual recovery partition and connected to the internet to reload the OS. While the beahviour is consistent with the recent KB articles for new Macs based on the state of the primary partition, I cannot figure out how it was able to connect to my wi-fi network (yes it's secure and no it doesn't have a wired ethernet connection).
I would have thought that wiping the primary partition would remove my network creentials but that would not seem to be the case. The KB would seem to indicate it requires you to choose a network and enter your credentials but it connected automatically in my case. What am I missing?

Result. My wifi is back working again.
After a number of evenings trawling through the support pages, I found a youtube clip from a chap taking his macbook apart and locating the airport adaptor and connecting cables.
The cable in question is located in the black plastic bar below the display and is a pain to get to. Apprently the most common cause of this issue is the cable becoming dislodged through an impromptu knock. I can see how this happened to me by travelling on the London Underground everyday with my mac in my shoulder bag.
Anyway, having seen the video, I bottled it and went to the genius bar obviously having seen the clip. I had a worst case scenario quote of £95.00, but a quote for a replacement cable and reseal being much less. I'm quite savvy but my mac is sacred and i'd rather the pros did it. Turned out to be £37.00 and my mac came back fixed and clean.... £37.00 for piece of mind is well worth it.
Here's the youtube clip but please don't take unnecessary risks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsSIUs7jzQc
Best of luck all.

  • "Perform whole database Recovery" Host Credentials problem

    Hello,
    I have minimal knowledge of the Oracle database system but currently I need to recover a Oracle 10G database on a Windows Server 2003 Standard edition.
    Im trying to use the Oracle Enterprise Manager. Im logged into the instance with SYS as SYSDBA. On the Perform Recovery page there are fields for "Host Credentials" Could someone explain to me what credentials EM is asking for. Whatever account I try to use EM gives a Validation Error stating
    Error - Connection to host as user test failed: ERROR: Wrong password for user
    Ive tried both local and Active Directory accounts that have full admin rights on the Host machine. With the AD account I tried using just the user name and allso domain\username. The page asks for "To perform recovery, supply operating system login credentials to access the target database." which sounds like the account has to have both access to the host and the database. Does that mean I have to create an external account in the instance? I even tried that but im not sure I configured it properly.

    Well found the solution. Atleast to this problem. Had to give the account "Log on as batch job" rights under Local Policy -> User Rights Assignment

  • OS credentials

    Hi I am reading the Backup & recovery concepts in RAC. i found these lines in one of the oracle site.
    When you use ASM to manage database files, Oracle recommends that you use RMAN for backup. You must have both database (SYSDBA) credentials and host operating system (OSDBA) credentials to perform backup and recovery.I know what is Database credentials, could any one tell me what is host operating system credentials????
    Its my OS username & password????
    Or tell me how to create that one:
    My OS username is : Senthil
    Passowrd is : star123
    Kindly advice me..
    Senthil Kumar

    What is you os and db version?
    What is the error that you are getting?Is it the one that Dbtoo mentioned or just invalid login name and password?
    Aman....

  • In em, OS user credentials gives "The owner of the job is not registered O"

    In em manager, to do a back or recovery, you have to enter an operating system user:
    "To perform recovery, supply operating system login credentials to access the target database"
    For lack of any guidance, i tried the oracle user, which has full access to the oracle directories and is in the DBA group.
    However, em console always gives this:
    ORA-20446: The owner of the job is not registered ORA-06512: at "SYSMAN.MGMT_JOBS", line 168 ORA-06512: at "SYSMAN.MGMT_JOBS", line 86 ORA-06512: at line 1
    Any ideas?
    DB is 11.2.0.1.0, and OS is CentOs 5.5. linux.
    The oracle OS user does not exist in the DB obviously. Ive googled this for hours, and noone seems to have found a solution on Unix (windows users can assign some permission, but linux doesnt have the concept).

    This is an Oracle bug in 11g, there is a fix available, you can use following workaround:
    logon as SYSMAN
    and issue
    execute MGMT_USER.MAKE_EM_USER(‘USERID’);
    What database credentials are you using for this database?

  • Where does LDAP credentials get stored?

    CA Forum: Authentication
    Hi Guys, I have configured CRS to use an existing database(SQL). After installation of CRS, i manually configured LDAP for authentication. I looked at these LDAP credentials in the database tables. In all there are only 5 tables that get created & i can see only 2 entries of data (in CMS.Aliases table) related to LDAP.I didn't find other info like LDAP server name, password, etc... Please can anyone let me know where these LDAP credentials get stored?Its really urgent... Thanks & Regards,Vishal

    I got the same problem.  I use enterprise authentication and oracle database. I have 8 tables created and only these tables have entries, CMS_INFOOBJECTS4 and  CMS_ALIASES4. One field in CMS_INFOOBJECTS4 called PROPERTIES has BLOB type. I am wondering if this is the field to save the password. Now I need to retrieve user password and use the same password for other purpose. How can I get the password and convert it from binary to encrypted text? Any idea? Thanks.

    My Old DB is 8i and Server is WindowsNT ,user account ='zadministrator'.
    Why was it throwing error?Unfortuntately you did not show us the actual error message. Instead you chose to give us your interpretation of it. "logon denied" could be a lot of things. An actual error message, including the ora-nnnn number will tell us what it is.
    And you didn't tell us if you tried this connection from the database server or a client machine.
    Copy and paste from a command session is a wonderful thing, but only if you use it.

  • 10G: Startup/Shutdown Host and Target Credentials

    Hello,
    I recently installed the Windows version of Oracle 10G. I was working on the database when I had to do a shutdown immediate command. The I went to Enterprise Manager to restart but it gave me a web page stating I need to specify the Host and database credentials. It stated to give the username and password of the Host and Database credentials.
    I know what the DB credentials are and my credentials are my OS username and password that I normally use to logon to my PC (or so I thought) but when I try and use that combination, it gives an error and states that it's an invalid password. Is there a way to reset the Host credentials username and password in Enterprise Manager Oracle 10G version?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Can you check out
    10g host preferred credentials, wrong password
    and see if the solution given there solves your problem, too?

  • SOAP SAP user credentials

    Hi
    we have an INBOUND SAP PROXY in PI 7.11 calling our SAP BACKEND. We want our partner to call this ws in PI. What user credentials must the user in PI have in order to complete the SOAP call?
    thx in advance

    HI,
        Your question is not fully clear. Looks like you are planning to do Soap to proxy i.e  webservice to proxy.
    To provide end users to access your web service, you can go with many options.
    a) User credentials login and password.  Talk to basis to create one user for accessing the web service. Something very similar to end user profile.
    b) certificate authentication.  We can generate a certificate and maintain in the Netweaver side. Provide that information to the client.
    To know more about user credentials or certificate authentication please use the below link.

  • Propagating user credentials to Web Services in WebLogic 6.1

    Hi All,
    Does anybody provide me some information about propagating client
    credentials to the Web Service. Agree with documentation I have tried as in

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Mike,
    Thank you for comprehensive explanation how to resolve my problem. I
    have
    done all work exactly
    as you wrote and then it began to work, both for static and dynamic
    client.
    As is written in WebLogic documentation
    I only restricted access to the stateless session bean that implements
    my
    Web Service, not the SOAP servlet.
    It seams that in this case user credentials are not propagated from servlet
    to ejb.
    Thanks once again you wasted much time for me.

    Hi Jerzy,
    This does indeed work, because I just verified it. Let's go througheverything
    to make sure you have all the pieces.
    1. You need client code that looks something like
    proxy.setUserName(userName);
    proxy.setPassword(password);
    where "userName" has been assigned the value of the user and "password"is
    a clear-text
    representation of their password.
    2. You need to use the Admin console to add the user to the system.I add
    mlwooten
    as a user, and employees as a group. Then I put mlwooten in the employeesgroup.
    3. The web.xml file for your web service should contain lines similarto
    this:
    <security-constraint>
    <web-resource-collection>
    <web-resource-name>PhoneBookService</web-resource-name>
    <url-pattern>/examples/webservices/security/PhoneBookService</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <auth-constraint>
    <role-name>AuthorizedUsers</role-name>
    </auth-constraint>
    <user-data-constraint>
    <transport-guarantee>NONE</transport-guarantee>
    </user-data-constraint>
    </security-constraint>
    <login-config>
    <auth-method>BASIC</auth-method>
    </login-config>
    <security-role>
    <role-name>AuthorizedUsers</role-name>
    </security-role>
    4. The weblogic.xml for your web service should look something like:
    <weblogic-web-app>
    <security-role-assignment>
    <role-name>AuthorizedUsers</role-name>
    <principal-name>employees</principal-name>
    </security-role-assignment>
    <reference-descriptor>
    <ejb-reference-description>
    <ejb-ref-name>examples.webservices.security.PhoneBookService</ejb-ref-name>
    <jndi-name>examples.webservices.security.PhoneBookService</jndi-name>
    </ejb-reference-description>
    </reference-descriptor>
    </weblogic-web-app>
    6. That's all I did to get it to work.
    NOTE: wsgen does not add the stuff in 4 and 5, above. You must addit
    manually.

    Mike Wooten

    Hi Michael,
    Thanks for your advice.
    The way you have proposed I've tested earlier and unfortunately this
    method
    does'nt work properly too.
    It seams that session bean used as a Web Service knows nothing about
    user
    credentials passed from a client aplication.
    Maybe, there is a bug in servlet
    weblogic.soap.server.servlet.StatelessBeanAdapter wchich does'nt
    propagate
    credentials to a session bean implementing a Web Service, or some
    configuration tasks are required on the WebLogic Web Server Components

    Hi Jerzy,
    You must do this through the WebServiceProxy object. The methods
    you
    want
    are:
    setUserName(String userName);
    setPassword(String password);
    The internals of WebServiceProxy will Base64 encode the password
    before
    it
    invokes
    the target web service.

    Try also adding:
    Logon as a Service and Act as Part of the Operating System.
    I assume you are using a domain account and not one that is local to the box being monitored, correct?
    Also, in OEM, go to Preferences...Preferred Credentials and enter the user name and password that you are using for the Normal Username and Normal Password and then click test. If this works, you should be good to go.

  • Access pin/password users CCM 6.0

    Hi,
    I have some applications developed to CCM 4.3, and now I have to make them work with CCM 6.0.
    My problem is that I need to access to the information pin/password of the users.
    I have been study the Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.0(1) Database Dictionary and Cisco Unified Communications Manager Developers Guide for Release 6.0(1).pdf. I can access the credential table in the database making an AXL request, but I don't know if this value “<CREDENTIALS>B1E093371D17A602638DFF87FF303F31DCBD9A5848BD9DB57424EB04F2537503</CREDENTIALS>” that is the pin or password. Is this with some kind of encryption?
    The dictionary manual tells that “AXL and all applications access passwords and PINs only via IMS libraries”, where can I found information about it?
    Thank you
    Ana

    doAuthenticateUser allows you to verify both pin and password (either or.. depending on the parameters you give).. but there's no way to read out the pin/password for us regular folks.. only cisco internal apps can do that.
    using updateUser you can update a user's password/pin so basically you have everything you need except pin recovery. If you need to develop a pin recovery tool (eg. for a helpdesk), you'd just give them the ability to set a new pin (or password) for the user and be done with that.. it is after all the same procedure for an IT admin when you lose the password for your domain account or some IT service your company offers its employees.
